Chão de estrelas : modos de subjetivação produzidos em uma investigação artística sobre os videokês em Fortaleza / Ground of stars : modes of subjectivation produced on an artistic research about videokes in Fortaleza city

Monteiro, Ticiano Pereira, 1982- 23 August 2018 (has links)

This research is based on an videographic experimental artistic process, in which footage of videoke's singers were made, in the city of Fortaleza, Ceara state's capital. Among the numerous recorded performances, some stood out, raising the problem: what makes these images more intense than others? How can a few individuals provoque, with their bodies, such intense sensations in their performances? Eight recordings were selected, from the entire set, to compose this study's object. From the analysis of these images emerges, as most important concepts, the ideas of device and process of subjectivation, mainly theorized by Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze, and the proposition of the camera as a tool for relationship, defended by Jean-Lous Comolli. Those concepts are examined in depth and put into dialogue with other authors, as well as with the images from which they emerged. Two devices are highlighted as essential to the analysis: the camera and the videoke. Based upon that, becomes evident: the lines of sedimentation, related to the devices' molar aspects, visible in performances as a reproduction of mass culture's spectacles; and the lines of fracture, linked to creative appropriation of the devices. Those cases reveals how certain individuals are appropriating the devices and midiatic spectacles in order to produce a knowledge about themselves, on the manners to impose the body on the scene and produce such intense performances. In conclusion, it is the processes of subjectivation as selfaffection that are capable of producing the intense images. Finally, as a result of this process, which, from the beginning, is both theoretical and artistic practical, an audiovisual installation is assembled / Mestrado / Multimeios / Mestre em Multimeios

The film poem

Ireopoulos, Fil January 2010 (has links)
The thesis traces the history of the film poem as a concern and formal strategy within artists' film traditions over the last one hundred years. Via a theoretical framework (that includes Russian Formalist literary poetics, experminetal film studies, critical theory and linguistics) the investigation reveals and explicates what connects the ways different practitioners have synthesised the two terms "film" and "poem" and discusses the relevance of the "film poem" as a combinative term within a contemporary art context.

Le bijou contemporain : son rapport au vêtement et à l'art : Anthropologie de l'ornement en Europe depuis les années 1960 / Contemporary jewelery : his report to the clothing and art : Anthropology of ornament in Europe since the 1960s

Lambert, Sylvie 24 November 2012 (has links)
Using a corpus of jewelry from the 1960’s to nowadays, analysed through the Theory of Mediation method, the thesis has three objectives. The first one aims at building an anthropology of jewelery through the detour of sociology, using the Instituant/Institué model (first part), which helps understanding the experimental nature of these ornaments, far away from the traditional investiture of the person. The second objective is to analyse these very specific jewels using the Fabriquant/Fabriqué model (second and third parts), as studying how the nature of these experiments is broken down is indeed too difficult to do in a traditional manner. The third objective is to show the unity of the research by highlighting a similarity with the mechanisms of contemporary arts (clothing, design, furniture, art), indicating a community of projects and therefore a global and widespread phenomenon (second and third parts). These socially unwearable jewels develop unlikely techniques, in line with the unlimited world of contemporary art.

Identité et mémoire : art contemporain en RDA et dans les nouveaux Länder à partir de 1971 : Lutz Dammbeck, Karla Sachse / Identity and Memory : Contemporary art in the GDR and in the new Länder from 1971 : Lutz Dammbeck, Karla Sachse

Schwabe, Stefanie 30 November 2012 (has links)
This thesis proposes a transitive view on contemporary art in the GDR in the 1970s and 1980s and in the new Länder based on the example of two artists, and Lutz Dammbeck and Karla Sachse. Their artistic productions performed before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall, reflect the process of identity construction in the GDR and also question the construction of Germany's collective memory. The first chapter provides an overview of the history that contributed to the construction of identity affecting the whole German society. The artists presented in the second and third chapter of this thesis are exemplary for many artists who refused the doctrine of socialist realism and did not wait for the end of the GDR tocreate important and subversive works. The years 1989 and 1990, the year the Berlin Wall fell and the year of German reunification, represent an important geo-political turn, but mean not really an aesthetic rupture for artists from east German alternative scenes as it is the case for Lutz Dammbeck and Karla Sachse

Photographies, abstraction et réalité : l'agencement comme processus artistique / Pictures, abstraction and reality : the display as artistic process

Harel-Vivier, Mathieu 22 November 2014 (has links)
Developed based on questions from the author’s artistic practice, this thesis examines the relationship between some artists, mainly contemporary, and the reality of the photographic picture, its ability to produce abstraction and to fit within a display. Considered here in a double perspective, the concept of display is seen, on one hand, as the process of the artist working with pictures and, on the other hand, as an organizational model that foster a variety of connections, like constellations do.Entitled “display’s conditions”, the first part deals with photographic acting-Out, the appropriation of a picture as well as the detachment that sometimes these two actions involve like in Christian Marclay’s and Wolfgang Tillmans’s practices. As an alternative to these various movements which spur on the artist’s impetus towards reality, photographic abstraction is considered for further study through the analysis of artistic works like Pierre Cordier’s, Michael Flomen’s or James Welling’s.The second part describes how the “display of pictures” is invested by a functioning that is a feature of editingand Warburg’s atlas. Several works are observed in which the display of pictures is delimited by the frame(John Baldessari and John Stezaker) scattered through the pages of a book (Hans-Peter Feldmann’s, LuisJacob’s, Gerhard Richter’s, etc.) and spread out in the exhibition space: on the walls, the ground and tables(Pierre Leguillon, Batia Suter, Wolfgang Tillmans). The interest is finally moved on the issue of displaytransmission, its aim of non-Hierarchy, especially in the context of public and private collections exhibited(Des images comme des oiseaux, Le Mur, Les Peintres de la vie moderne). As the outcome of this text that appears beside a series of plates, a new collection of annotated and captionedphotographs is developed, dedicated to the artistic practice of the author.

Figures de la boucle : tours, détours et circularités dans les pratiques contemporaines / Figures of the loop : twists, turns and circularities of contemporary artistic practices

Cauchy, Séverine 21 November 2015 (has links)
This thesis in visual arts, inspired by and worked upon through the author’s own artistic practices, proposes a study of the loop in contemporary art. With its curvilinear progression, its selfgenerating form, its repetition, reciprocity and feedback, the loop is examined through the question of its montage, through the exchange and critical narrative that it initiates. This study relates to the art of today, questioning the intentions which direct the elaboration of the loop and the mechanisms which govern its structure. We put the period, from the second half of the 20th century to the start of the 21st, into perspective with several forays into art history. The philosophy of the Enlightenment, the industrial revolution, modernity and post-modernity all punctuate this exploration. This back and forth guides our investigation into three key themes: typology, temporality and space, which, in turn, act as the backbone of this thesis. Acting as markers, an attentive observation of the following objectsand equipment: belt, hoop, band, film, reel, rope or carousel, this study informs the loop via the media of video, cinema, painting, installation and performance. The artistic corpus, by way of the creation of a dialogue between contemporary works (Francis Alÿs, Shilpa Gupta, Rodney Graham, Roman Ondák, Dan Graham, Ryan Gander, Harun Farocki, Simon Starling) and those which preceded them (Giotto, Gustave Courbet, Louis Aimé Augustin Le Prince, Buster Keaton, AlfredHitchcock), allows us to analyse according to what methods the loop amounts to a poetic arrangement.

Les livres d’artistes entre pratiques alternatives à l’exposition et pratiques d’exposition alternatives / Artists’ books inbetween alternative practices to exhibition and alternative exhibition practices

Dupeyrat, Jérôme 30 November 2012 (has links)
De la sorte, il est également question de la place qu’occupentles livres d’artistes dans le système de l’art contemporain et des effets qu’ils exercent sur celui-ci / This thesis considers the phenomenon of the artist’s book as it develops in its relation to the concept and to the practice of exhibition since the 1960s. The exhibition is considered here in a double perspective: on the one hand as the most common institutional apparatus for the manifestation of art, and secondly as a function related to the visibility of the artworks. It further appears that artists’ books and artists’ publications can be grasped inbetween alternative practices to exhibition and alternative exhibition practices. Alternative exhibition practices insofar as book and printed mater are potential modes of visibility of art ; alternatives practices to exhibition because this way of visibility is very different from what we usually call an exhibition.Through the study of this dialectical tension between publishing and exhibition, we aim to clarify what are the economics of art and the conditions of aesthetic reception that books and artists’ publications offer; thus we aim to understand in what sense and with respect to which norms or instances they have what one may call an “alternative” value. From this perspective, this thesis is also about the place of artists’ books in the system of contemporary art and the effects they have on it

The conceptual art, the psychoanalysis and the paradoxes of language : a dialogue between Joseph Kosuth and Sigmund Freud

Pereira Medina, Fernanda 06 October 2017 (has links)
This thesis proposes to discuss the analogies revealed between conceptual art work, as it is conceived by Joseph Kosuth, as a meaning production process, and the analytical work as elaborated by Sigmund Freud. We then work from the interface between art and psychoanalysis as two meaning producing experiences. We question the meaning from the particularities inherent in each of these discourses and practices involved, but also from what it seems to bring them together, namely: the mechanisms involved in the production of meaning in conceptual art as well as in psychoanalysis lead to a hybrid expression indicating the relationship between language and image, between a discourse that lies within the limits of the sayable and an image that is located within the limits of the visible. The hybridity of sense sends us to an intellectual uncertainty, a crossing of limits and an ambiguity that are related to the notion of Unheimlich. This singular dimension of human experience concerns the subject of the unconscious and artistic creation. Following the statements of Joseph Kosuth himself, his work fits into the dimension of Unheimlich. This thesis then analyzes the experience raised by conceptual art from this notion that appears in the Freudian work in 1919, in the context of a research on aesthetics.Freud doesn’t speak of aesthetics as a beauty theory, but as an affective effect promoted by the work of art. From our point of view, we hold the idea that artistic creation is always related to affectivity, even if it is a controversial issue with regard to conceptual art. It is in this sense that we analyze the experience promoted by the work of Kosuth, that is, as an affective experience of the order of the Unheimlich.

ARTE E PUBLICIDADE NA CONTEMPORANEIDADE: CONVERGÊNCIAS / ART AND ADVERTISING NOWADAYS: CONVERGENCES

Berger, Bruna 31 March 2016 (has links)
Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul / This research aims to understand the processes of convergence between art and advertising its insert and contribute in different ways to the artistic field. In this contemporary time, one sees an active process of confluences and cultural and communicational hybrids due to increasingly latent exposure of the mass media and new technologies. There has been a notable advance in the art use of insertion strategies and dissemination of its content in the media, showing up, sometimes as promotion strategy, sometimes as critical to such means. For analysis and development of this study, we turn to artists whose works comprise characteristics that lead to border washout, allowing us to see there where the convergence between art and advertising are these days, much of the exploration point of view of language and space ownership advertising. This study is based on the works of the following artists, Antoni Muntadas, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Jeff Koons, Vik Muniz, Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman, Paul Bruscky and Gisele Beiguelman. In this investigative journey also approach the relationship between contemporary art and the art market, looking at art as a field of knowledge can provide us with different reflections on the world, which has an ambiguous position because it is an activity with purpose endless and it has, however, able to transform the interests of the consumer market. Subjected to economic and cultural imperatives, art also relates to the big brands in the consumer market, and a major corporate investment in certain cases. Evaluate how resources obtained in these artistic practices influence the mode of production of artists and their careers, limiting their opportunities and constraints in this field and, therefore, we try to understand the status of the artist in contemporary society. Finally, we believe that the artwork that allow convergence with other fields, such as advertising, especially those that occur in non-institutional spaces, contribute to the debate on the nature of art. Thus, we can see an ease access to those works, which indicates a greater democratization of art. We also understand that although there is a fusion between art and advertising, borders appear less distinct and hierarchical, more permeable. This phenomenon changes the aesthetic experience we have with the world and the art changes the world, experience it changes us too.
