Uma vida em dança = movimentos e percursos de Denize Stutz / A life in dance : movement and pathways of Denize Stutz

Vilela, Lilian Freitas 08 December 2010 (has links)
Abstract: The work presents several different axis of investigation performed by a doctoral research on the life of Denise Stutz, Brazilian dancer who remains actively performing since the 1970s until the present days. The perspective of this research focuses on the experiences of this ballerina throughout her multiple poetic paths - her moments of formation, transformation and affirmation through dance. The methodological procedure adopted was the selection, with an analytical approach, of oral narratives through the transcreation (MEIHY, 2005) of her stories that were brought to life in recorded statements at times of recollection, and through narratives drawn from six scenic spectacles chosen as reference works (Mary, Mary, Folia, Do not Look Now; Homo politicus; three soils at a time and a fair picture: Letters and processes). The speech and movements of Denise Stutz were revealed during the narrative opposing the voice with the body, resulting in written text and imagery of a life in dance. We observe that this ballerina's body was formed by extensive references - classical ballet, modern dance, street drama, butoh, improvisation - going from moments of belonging to groups, dance companies and art groups, as well as solo projects. By investigating this path one may realize the different aesthetic and political choices made by this body when dancing and also one can reflect on the reorganization of contemporary dance's environment in relation to the scene and to the assignment of roles and forms of creation. Denise Stutz's transformations reflect her self-affirmation as a ballerina and also present her dance as a form of production of meaning and expression of life. / Doutorado / Educação, Conhecimento, Linguagem e Arte / Mestre em Educação

Leal, Patricia Garcia 13 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Elisabeth Bauch Zimmermann / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Artes / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-13T16:53:58Z (GMT). / Abstract: The present research was developed from creative processes in dance, that had the senses of smell and taste as first stimuli for creation. Proposes a specific choice of corporal techniques, using improvisation as a possibility of integrating body's preparation, interpretation and creation. The results of the research are three choreographies and the configuration of methodological proposals in contemporary dance. The first perfumes emphasized by the thesis present the references of the study concerning the senses of smell and taste in different areas as psychology, history, literature, cognitive science and others. Finally, different artistic methodologies involving the senses are presented as a reference in theater and dance. In concern of the creative processes, the first choreography developed, Amargo Perfume, used the scent of coffee as a stimulus. The second, Intenso, emphasized the flavors of red cabernet wine. And the last choreography developed, Variações sobre chocolates, used not only the smelling and tasting stimuli, but also the touching information of chocolates. Amargo Perfume and Intenso were conceived as solos. Variações sobre chocolates was developed in group as a necessity of methodological application. Tasting the flavors, the methodologies that have been researched since 2001, are presented in two parts. The first one relates the perception's senses to Laban factors of movement in improvisation processes. The second one focuses on the creation from the senses of smell and taste, valorizing the contributions and possibilities of these specific senses to choreography composition. The proposals can be integrated and have in improvisation the basis that associate body's preparation, interpretation and composition techniques. One last methodological variation, in a floor work, centre and diagonal format, is presented in annex like a contribution to the most different professionals in body and scenic arts. As final discussion, tasting and scenting touch, the present study reflects about the methodological and creative contributions developed to the actual scenery of contemporary dance, discussing about the body and the dance from the senses' point of view.

Abstract: The main objectives of this study were: the reconstitution and documented registry of the production by São Paulo choreographers Célia Gouvêa and Sônia Mota in the 1970s and 1980s; an appreciation of this production to reflect on the roots of theatricality in scenic dance during that period. In order to understand the theatricality pathways used by each artist, an attempt was made to recognize the forms of dance corporeity management, the main choreographic strategies employed and how the different scenic materials were manipulated in their work. The contextual period chosen for this study goes from 1974 to 1993, delimiting two emblematic moments for São Paulo dance: the foundation of São Paulo's Teatro Galpão in December 1974; and the creation of the MTD - Theater-Dance Movement 90 in 1993. A qualitative methodological approach was adopted, making use of personal testimony from the choreographers and the gathering of several kinds of historical documents for analysis. Throughout the entire process, an attempt was made to forge appropriate instruments for the systematization of research data, resulting in the elaboration of three categories of analysis: scenic body, structural principles and language structuring. From the definition of these categories, it was possible to analyze the individual production of each creator, as well as make a final comparative study of their scenic productions, seeking to capture elucidative elements of theatrical trends present in the dances of Célia Gouvêa and Sônia Mota.

This research aims discute and do contemporany dance base on a theoretical, technical, formal and poetic framework originated from patterns typical of expressions of the Brazilian popular culture. This work systematizes the investigation process of methodological procedures for body preparation and the creation process in the language of Brazilian Contemporary Dance. The main hypothesis of this present work is that there is a "limial body" in the capoeira Angola and in sambas de umbigada (batuque, jongo, tambor de crioula and samba de roda) that get new meanings in São Paulo city (southern Brazil) through the way they are performed. "Limial body", which transcends day-to-day life, take a place in the crossroad where the corporal identities of Banto African matrix, established in the historical process of Brazilian cultural development, are updated and recreated. It is, therefore, a body that bears powerful expressiveness and symbols. This characteristics are important in a study of the contemporary scene, because it represents a significant part of the plurality that compose Brazilian culture, and it opens up routes for new crossroads / Doutorado / Artes Cenicas / Doutor em Artes

Danseurs, "breakers", acrobates au travail / Exploring the virtuoso gesture : dancing at the turn of the 21st century. Dancers, breakers, acrobats at work

Dumont, Agathe 03 December 2011 (has links)
This doctoral thesis in performing arts offers an approach to practice, discourse and representations around the notion of virtuosity in dancing. It looks into forms currently mutating on today’s choreographic and interdisciplinary stage, focusing on the way various performers incorporate virtuosic movement into their interpretation, at the juncture between the 20th and the 21st centuries. Observing the transfers taking place between disciplines, this research is built on a corpus of twelve performers: dancers, breakers and acrobats. The first stage of the approach was to make them describe the path they had followed, their working habits, their perception of a virtuosic move, and to make observations about the shows they take part in. This analysis is based on a corpus of productions (contemporary dance, contemporary circus, breakdance) and interviews presented in the appendix. Virtuosity is thus investigated from the point of view of the performer, considered inside a complex system and presented as a form of indiscipline. Based on a number of observations and methodologies specific to movement analysis and aesthetic analysis, this research proposes an exploration of the virtuosic movement with respect to certain transdisciplinary migrations and examines the questions of the presence and significance of new forms of virtuosity on the contemporary stage, in an attempt to redefine its terms and practices.

A reading of Gherasim Luca and of Dimitris Dimitriadis to the proof of performativity

Karampagia, Valentina 19 June 2013 (has links)
This thesis proposes a path throughout the poetry of Gherasim Luca and the dramatic writing of Dimitris Dimitriadis based on the philosophical and the aesthetic questions of performativity. This notion circulating between the philosophy of language and of art is decisive so as to understand the great relation of both authors’ writing to the body and the act of reading. Contemporary dance is a basic reference into this path : it is, indeed, profoundly performative as it’s creations are similar to demonstration and it’s temporality vacillates between the moment of improvising and the composition’s repetition. Demonstration is, equally, a performative aspect of language : words define things, and thus, they inscribe them in an motion. Therefore, language is the scene where the performance of being restarts endlessly. Furthermore, performativity of language is determined by the vacillation between the present and repetition itself : meaning is grasped by a mouvement of undermining of the present by a past improbable to limitate and all communication takes place in the background of something that espaces from it. Instead of clarifying an object, language’s fuction is to broaden it infinitely. Contemporary danse is an island in this vast space of thought on performativity and offers precious tools so as to navigate in the hybrid literary work of Luca and Dimitriadis. Danse indeed converses with these texts, which unfold the plasticity of language. It finally gives answers in regard to the texts’ tendancy to render the past of writing and the present of reading, as well as the boundaries between poetry and theater, permeable.

Zkušenosti těla v tanci / Experiences of Body in Dance

Švecová, Veronika January 2014 (has links)
Key words: dance - body - corporeality - dance aesthetics - aesthetic experience - phenomenology - Maxine Sheets-Johnstone - contemporary dance Abstact: Dance's various forms and appearances are connected through one universal aspect - the presence of corporeality as represented by the moving human body. The role and the experience of body is essential for the description of dance even in its aesthetical and philosophical interpretation. First of all, this diploma theses aims to map the field of aesthetics and philosophy of dance from wider historical perspective and consequently to find support in dance basic division and its connected experiences in practice of inner ecstatic immersion. Furthermore, the focus is also given to the type of experience that is subordinated to visual effect of dance. This foundation is further elaborated in second part of this thesis, which discusses dance experience in its aesthetic dimension through context of phenomenological philosophy in thinking of Maxine Sheets-Johnstone. This concept of dance reveals other important qualities in dance as an art. In addition, it shows one of novel approaches to corporeality in the aesthetic experience of dance, which could built on the dichotomous differentiation of the dance experience and open new perspectives on the aesthetic...
