L’influence de la franc-maçonnerie sur l’élaboration de la norme sous la Vème République / The influence of Freemasonry on the development of the law during the french Fifth RepublicPalacio Russo, Diane-Marie 07 December 2016 (has links)
A lot of research work has been carried out about Freemasonry, its history and its customs, but also about its influence in the 18th century. Nevertheless, no academic research has been led on its activity during the 20th and 21st centuries. Freemasonry, a discreet organisation, is nowadays composed of a little more than 6,000,000 members around the world and has always been significantly present within the French governments. No one now denies that it has left its mark in the fights for school secularism, freedom of association or the separation of Church and State. However, currently, the reality of its influence is sometimes put into question. The laws pertaining to contraception, voluntary termination of pregnancy or, more recently, bioethics or the ban on the full veil, are however all well-known for having received the backing of Freemasonry. From the sheer writing in the lodges of a text which is to be voted in at a later stage to the famous parliamentary coalition, as well as the countless ministers who are well-known for being freemasons, the influence of the Masonic Obediences is said to take various forms. This work’s objective is to check the reality of this influence while determining its specificities: its identity, its workings, but also its purpose and some of the techniques used make it different from those written by other influential authors. Moreover this research also aims at checking that the classification claimed by Freemansonry as an interest group is adequate. The approach chosen required the use of the tools suggested by legal sociology, since the influence of Freemasonry appears as a social phenomenon, being one of the causes of these laws. Besides, the use of statistical, comparative and historical data, of interviews as well as legal drafting has made it possible to fill in the gaps that would have remained if only bibliographic sources had been used.

Development of strategies to reduce unmet need for modern contraception among agro-pastoral women in Eastern EthiopiaDereje Kifle Moges 03 1900 (has links)
The aim of the study was to develop strategies to reduce the unmet need for modern contraception among agro-pastoral women. The objectives of the study were to determine the prevalence of unmet need for modern contraception, determine the factors associated with unmet need for modern contraception, and explore the barriers that hindered agro-pastoral women from using modern contraception.
A mixed-method research design was used to conduct the study. Data were collected from agro-pastoral women and family planning service providers. Questionnaire and individual in-depth interviews were used to collect the data. The validity and reliability of the quantitative data and trustworthiness of the qualitative data were ensured. Use of standard data collection tools, employing method and data triangulation, and documenting all the procedures of data collection and analysis were among the ways employed to do so The quantitative data were analysed using simple descriptive statistics and multivariate logistic regression. Thematic analysis was employed to analyse the qualitative data. Ethical principles of research such as beneficence, justice, informed consent, respect for persons, privacy and confidentiality and scientific integrity were considered to conduct the study.
The study revealed an unmet need of 29.2% (n=112) for modern contraception among agro-pastoral women. The unmet need for birth spacing constituted 21.1% (n=81), whereas the unmet need for birth limiting was 8.1% (n=31). The age of the women, the number of living children, knowledge of modern contraceptive methods, and knowledge of FP service centres were found to be associated with women‘s unmet need for modern contraception. Lack of time and money, lack of knowledge about modern contraception, and fear of side effects were the major individual-level barriers. There were also culture-related factors such as the need for many children that hindered agro-pastoral women from using modern contraception. Moreover, the study disclosed that religious unacceptability and husband‘s and relatives‘ opposition were also among the mentioned barriers. The quality of FP service provision in terms of the competence and behaviour of health service providers, unavailability and inaccessibility of FP service, were also indicated as barriers.
The findings informed the development of strategies to reduce agro-pastoral women‘s unmet needs for modern contraception in Eastern Ethiopia. The study further recommended that the health bureaus of the region, zone and district collaborate in ensuring that agro-pastoral women realise the significance of the provision of accessible, equitable, quality modern contraception. It is also essential to equip health facilities with qualified health service providers and necessary facilities. Religious leaders should be involved in disseminating vital, relevant and empowering FP information. / Health Studies / Ph. D. (Public Health)

Determinants of the choice of type of contraceptive methods used by young women in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, 2001Nkumanda, Vuyelwa January 2017 (has links)
This research report is submitted to the School of Social Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in the field of Demography and Population Studies for the year 2016, September 2017 / Background: South Africa has some of the most progressive legislation when it comes to sexual and reproductive health rights. However, contraceptive use amongst this segment of the population group remains distorted. From a public health perspective, investing in the sexual and reproductive health needs of young people translates into an improvement in the sexual health status of the population at large. As such this paper makes use of the Health Belief Model to investigate the factors associated with the choice of type of contraceptive methods used by sexually active young women to prevent a pregnancy.
Methodology: Data for this study was obtained from Wave 2 of the Transitions to Adulthood survey. The weighted sample size is 464. Analysis on the weighted data was conducted in STATA 13.1 in survey mode in order to achieve the objectives of this study. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse the data at the univariate level. The Chi-squared test was conducted to examine the relationship between the variables under investigation and the outcome, contraceptive use. The multinomial logistic regression model was used to analyse the data at the multivariate level. The results of which were provided in terms of relative risk ratios.
Findings: Approximately 41% of sexually active young women in KwaZulu Natal did not use contraception to prevent a pregnancy with their most recent sexual partner. Results from the multinomial logistic regression model revealed that sexually active young women who were single were 77% less likely to make use of hormonal and other contraceptive methods to prevent a pregnancy compared to their who were counterparts in a relationship (p-value= 0.00001). Young women who have been pregnant at least once were approximately 60% less likely to utilise hormonal and other contraceptive methods to prevent a pregnancy with their most recent sexual partner.
Conclusion: By using the Health Belief Model as a theoretical basis this study highlighted the complex non-linear relationships between the variables selected to constitute the health beliefs as well as the health-related behaviour of contraceptive use. The findings of this study demonstrate two key realities related to contraceptive use of sexually active young women in KwaZulu Natal. Firstly, relatively low rates of contraceptive uptake. Secondly, amongst sexually active young women who utilised contraception, there are even lower usage rates of long-acting reversible contraceptive methods. As such, it is important for healthcare facilities in KwaZulu Natal and South Africa at large to support young women in their decision to protect themselves from unintended pregnancies and from infections of HIV and others STIs. / XL2018

Despite its high efficacy, availability both at primary health care and private pharmacies in Brazil, it is still underutilized. Objective: To identify the reasons and analyze the determinants of emergency contraception non-use when indicated. Method: Cross-sectional, quantitative study conducted with a probabilistic sample of pregnant women from 12 Primary Health Facilities at the Health Supervision of Butantã, São Paulo, Brazil (n=515), from March to June 2013. We considered an emergency contraception non-use when indicated women who were either in an unplanned or ambivalent pregnancy according to the London Measure of Unplanned Pregnancy (n=366). In Stata 12.0, we used multinomial logistic regression to analyze the data. Women who used the method to prevent the current pregnancy were the reference and were compared to two groups of women: those who did not use emergency contraception, but used another method; and those who used no method at all. Results: Although there was a high proportion of emergency contraception awareness (96.7%), only 9.8 % used it to prevent the current pregnancy. The main reason for non-use was believing that she would not become pregnant (47.6%); but wanting to become pregnant in the future and not remembering to use the method were also largely reported. Associated aspects to emergency contraception non-use among women who used a method were not being aware of pregnancy risk [OR=3,44; IC95%: 1,48-8,03] and cohabitation with a partner [OR=3,23; IC95%: 1,43-7,28]. Among women that did not use any contraception, cohabitation with a partner [OR= 3,19; IC95%: 1,40-7,27], ambivalent pregnancy [OR: 3,40; IC95%: 1,56-8,54] and no previous use of emergency contraception [OR=3,52; IC95%: 1,38-8,97] were associated with the method non-use. Conclusions: Living with a partner can make a woman feel less concerned about preventing a pregnancy, which means, less likely to use emergency contraception. Eventually, having skills to recognize pregnancy risk situations, having experience on how to use and when to obtain the pill and a clear pregnancy intention can increase the use of emergency contraception when indicated

Padrões e determinantes das descontinuidades contraceptivas no uso de pílula oral, hormonal injetável e preservativo masculino / Patterns and determinants of contraceptive discontinuations in the use of oral pill, hormonal injections and condomsSantos, Osmara Alves dos 21 March 2018 (has links)
Introduction: Use of modern contraceptive methods by the majority of Brazilian women did not reduce the occurrence of unintended pregnancies, abortions or maternal deaths as expected, which means that it might be an irregular and discontinuous use. In Brazil, there is a little information on the patterns and determinants of the occurrence of these contraceptive discontinuations. Because inconsistencies in the use of methods are relatively common, it is necessary to measure how much women discontinue their use despite they are willing to get pregnant and/or switching them countless times, not always with the option of a more efficient method. Objective: Our purpose is to investigate patterns and determinants of contraceptive discontinuations in the use of oral pill, hormonal injection and condom. Method: We conducted a retrospective longitudinal study with probabilistic sample of 1,551 women among 18-49 year old who are primary users of 57 health care facilities, both in Sao Paulo (2015) city and Aracaju city (2016). Data were collected by face-to-face interview in line with contraceptive calendar. In Stata 14.2 analyzes of 12-month contraceptive discontinuation rates were performed using the Kaplan-Meier Survival Estimates method and associated factors using the Cox Proportional Hazards Models, both for total discontinuation, abandonment, and switching to a less efficient method and switching to more efficient method. Results: The discontinuation rate in the use of methods was 41.9% at 12 months, being higher among male condom users (48.1%), followed by hormonal injection (39.0%) and oral pill (38.6%). Among oral pill users, the abandon rate was the highest; among users of hormonal injections, was the switching to a less efficient method; and among male condom users, it was the switching to a more efficient method. The aspects associated to the discontinuations varied according to the type of method. Discontinuation of oral pill users was associated with age (18-24 years old), experience of abortion, uncertainty about reproductive intention and side effects/health concern. Discontinuation in the use of hormonal injections was associated with a greater number of sexual partners, the experience of abortion, and the side effects/health concern. Discontinuation of condom users was associated with age (25-34 and 35-49 years old), marital union, lower income and the highest number of live children. Conclusion: High discontinuation rates were observed in the use of contraceptive methods, which varied according to the type of method. The role of side effects/health concern in determining the occurrence of discontinuation in the use of hormonal methods is noteworthy. On the other hand, switching to more efficient method was infrequent, except for the male condoms users. It is suggested to amplify access to the more effective methods as well as long active also improving care in contraception in the all health care facilities services, in order to take into account both women health needs and their sexual and reproductive rights.

A prescrição da pílula anticoncepcional na década de 1960: a perspectiva de médicos ginecologistas / The contraceptive pill prescription in the 1960s: the perspective of gynecologistsCavalieri, Francine Even de Sousa 21 February 2017 (has links)
The prescription of the contraceptive pill began in Brazil in 1962. This practice brought political and social changes to the country: the pill becomes highly accepting of women and remains the contraceptive method most used by them until nowadays. The pill use has influenced the fall in fertility rate and, based on a series of other factors, is a set of transformations that modifies the formulation of public policies regarding reproductive health and female sexual health. Goal: To understand how the prescription of the contraceptive pill happened in Brazil, carried by gynecologists at the time when it begins to be used in the country. Methodology: This is a qualitative research, having as empirical material the narratives of six gynecologists who worked in the 1960s, at São Paulo state. Results and Discussion: From the interviews, four thematic axes of analysis were identified, which included the description of the first contact of the doctors with the pill, followed by different ways of using the contraceptive pill as a new technology. Also, were identified the relationship between medical prescription and the pharmaceutical industry, as well as the use of the contraceptive pill and the construction of the medical discourse about the female body. These findings were analyzed in light of the studies on medicalization of the female body, and how the contraceptive pill prescription was included in the medical clinic from the 1960s. Final Considerations: The use of the contraceptive pill was presented as a new technology for the control of Reproduction and of female bodies. Understanding the history of pill prescription is to take into account the multiple agents, interests, and practices that are still inscribed on women\'s bodies
