JUAN CARLOS JELDES PONTIO 10 March 2021 (has links)
[en] Deployment of Convivial Design, a disciplinary action in Valparaíso, Chile, is a thesis that opens the question of how the designer can participate in his own reality and is also able to exercise direct action on the community, participating in the dignity of people s life and considering the conditions of the contemporary material culture. For this, we review the disciplinary literature focused on design profiling with emphasis on the concept of value. We study the conceptual paths that are linked to the theoretical critiques about industrialism, as well as the influence of this in the construction of a social hegemonic and disciplinary vision. Then the thesis runs on the notions proper to design in order to clear the most universal disciplinary elements that allow us to make readings devoid of preconceptions. With the exposition of the location from where this thesis is carried out, a reflection is made on the institutional, theoretical and teaching place of the author in the School of Architecture and Design of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. With these elements, a theoretical-critical referential is built that allows the implementation of the Aconcagua FabLab project (mobile digital manufacturing laboratory), as a case of direct university action on the local territory, the classroom deployment. It concludes with the proposal to navigate towards a Convivial Design identifying keys that allow us to find a disciplinary path as an alternative to industrialist development.

Rodríguez Gutiérrez, Ingrith Dayana 13 December 2024 (has links)
[EN] Culture represents the social basis, denotes identity and supports the processes of creation and transformation of societies. In the classical approach, culture is responsible for identifying, protecting, preserving, rehabilitating and disseminating traditions and histories in a sustainable way; however, in recent years, the link between culture, economy and territorial development has begun to be explored more deeply, highlighting how cultural practices promote new capacities and opportunities to encourage innovation processes. Within the broad cultural sector, there has been a growing interest in recent years to better understand cultural events as phenomena loaded with multiple meanings and approaches; one of the aspects of interest is innovation, both in terms of content and management, and its articulation with other sectors for territorial development. This research focuses on a little-studied area of innovation in the cultural sector, because it aims to contribute to the construction of a framework for the analysis of innovation in intangible cultural heritage, based on the analysis of these processes in cultural organizations and their relationship with the context. The objective was set to be the analysis of innovation processes in cultural organizations that work for the safeguarding and protection of intangible cultural heritage, particularly in relation to carnivals. An analytical framework has been used to support the research process. The results obtained allow us to identify the types, spaces, and motivations for innovation in cultural heritage organizations. With this research, the aim is to promote a new perspective on innovation in cultural management within a systemic approach, understanding that it is based on a living culture that evolves and adapts to the context representing its identity. The findings lay the groundwork for future research focused on culture as a tool for social cohesion and the promotion of territorial development. / Rodríguez Gutiérrez, ID. (2024). Alltagsgeographien bildender Künstler in Berlin. / Eine Analyse der Interaktionsräume im künstlerischen Wertschöpfungsprozess.

Lehnertz, Monique 07 May 2018 (has links)
This research is about the creative actor - "the contemporary fine artist" using the example of Berlin - and how he is shaping and influencing space in his value-added process on different spatial scales. The focus is on the everyday life spheres of interaction the so-called "everyday life geographies" in the value-added process. By using a qualitative approach differentiated and nuanced information on the actor's characteristics and his local practices can be obtained, as well as on the art market and its global regulatory mechanisms. The objective of this research is to characterise the spheres of interaction of the fine artists in their value-added process (production, presentation, marketing, disposal) through a spatial, temporal and socio-economic perspective. The overall results present a new spatial viewpoint with predominantly local, analogue, and fluid spheres of interaction of the contemporary fine artists. They reveal the most important steps and spatial configurations in the career of an artist in order to become successfully established in the art market. Of particular importance are the spatial proximity and the connection within the local networks. The digitalization only slightly affects the art market so far. Furthermore, the thesis obtains important knowledge in regard to mobility as an enabling framework in the process of artistic creation. Berlin is regarded as the second most important global art metropolis in a network of global art metropolises, which can still be located in the western hemisphere. The assumed globalisation has not affected the art market yet.

The Rebellious Mirror,Before and after 1984:Community-based theatre in Aotearoa

Maunder, Paul Allan January 2010 (has links)
In this thesis I outline the contribution Community-based theatre has made to New Zealand theatre. This involves a defining of theatre production as a material practice. Community-based theatre was a tendency from the 1930s, a promise of the left theatre movement and, I argue, was being searched for as a form of practice by the avant-garde, experimental practitioners of the 1970s. At the same time, early Māori theatre began as a Community-based practice before moving into the mainstream. With the arrival of neo-liberalism to Aotearoa in 1984, community groups and Community-based theatre could become official providers within the political system. This led to a flowering of practices, which I describe, together with the tensions that arise from being a part of that system. However, neo-liberalism introduced managerial practices into state contracting and patronage policy, which effectively denied this flowering the sustenance deserved. At the same time, these policies commodified mainstream theatre production. In conclusion, I argue that in the current situation of global crisis, Community-based theatre practice has a continuing role to play in giving voice to the multitude and by being a practice of the Common.

[en] THREE ESSAYS ON EXPORT PROMOTION SERVICES AND SYSTEMS: OVERCOMING EXPORT BARRIERS / [pt] TRÊS ENSAIOS SOBRE SERVIÇOS E SISTEMAS DE PROMOÇÃO À EXPORTAÇÃO: SUPERANDO BARREIRAS À EXPORTAÇÃO

BEATRIZ HELENA KURY COSTA PEREIRA 23 August 2018 (has links)
[en] Foreign trade provides significant benefits to nations from both macroeconomic and microeconomic perspectives. From a macroeconomic point of view, exports allow the increasing of foreign exchange reserves and generate employment opportunities, consequently leading to improved living standards. From a microeconomic perspective, exports stimulate the development of competitive advantages, reducing idle production capacity, raising technological standards, powering profitability, intensifying return on investments, and enhancing firms financial stature. SMEs export performance is particularly of utmost importance since they are responsible for a significant portion of economic activities and could amplify substantially exports outcome at the aggregate level. However, export barriers and market failures tend to affect their capacity to access strategic resources necessary to guarantee a successful internationalization process. From a resource-based perspective, the inability of SMEs to successfully expand abroad due to their lack of sufficient internal resources, know-how, and information about foreign markets may be seen as a condition of market failure, therefore endorsing government s participation in export promotion initiatives. In accordance with this rationale and building on the existing knowledge, the aim of this thesis is to contribute to the investigation of export promotion services and systems in three essays. The first essay, entitled Export Promotion Services and Firm Export Barriers: Do These Literatures Interact?, – aims to thoroughly examine the two literatures, presenting their contributions, gaps, and recommendations for future studies. The second essay, entitled Export Promotion Initiatives in a Cluster, - approaches the long-term development of a Brazilian beachwear cluster, using the case method of investigation and focusing specifically on the attempts to develop exporting activities. Export promotion agents have tried to introduce new practices and attitudes toward cooperation among firms but failed to do so. The key issue, therefore, is to understand why the firms failed to cooperate, despite several initiatives and investments to promote collective actions. The paper advances some possible explanations, with implications to other Brazilian clusters. Finally, the conclusion advances some recommendations for public policymakers concerning the design of export promotion programs. The third and last essay, entitled The Coordination of Export Promotion Networks for the Creative Industries, examines through the use of the case method of investigation the different approaches adopted by three successful countries in supporting the internationalization of their creative industries, adopting an interorganizational perspective, focusing on network coordination. The study provides empirical evidence of how different approaches, from the centralization of an export promotion network to decentralization, and from loose coordination to tight, may be used to promote the exports of firms in the creative industries. The results also suggest that each context may require a different approach to the coordination of Trade Support Institutions activities. The degree of economic development of each country, the resources available, the maturity of the industry, as well as cultural issues, may play a role in determining which approach could be a better fit for each country and sector.

Gómez Reyes, Flor Marleny 02 December 2025 (has links)
[EN] This doctoral thesis focuses on the analysis of public policies for the promotion of the cultural and creative industries (CCIs), particularly in the music sector, whose main activity is classified under the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) code 5920, which includes sound recording and music publishing. Given the importance and impact of this sector on the economic development of regions, especially since the rise of digital platforms worldwide, the activities included in it represent a great opportunity to boost the economic development of a city like Bogotá D.C., the capital of Colombia, and recognized by UNESCO in 2012 as the Music Capital of the World. Therefore, this thesis aims to provide the necessary knowledge for the elaboration of public policies that promote the impact of music sector companies (ISIC 5920) on the economic development of Bogotá D.C. Through a systematic review of the literature, the key dimensions of public policies (PP) for CCIs are identified, which the literature recognizes as having the greatest impact on the economic, social, and cultural development of regions. The results of this review serve as the basis for a comparative analysis between certain German and Spanish cities to identify the factors that, in each case, and within the framework of these key dimensions, most contribute to the generation of economic development in each country. From this point on, the thesis focuses on analyzing whether the public policies implemented in the capital of Colombia, mainly in the music sector, have an impact on the factors whose impact is expected to be greater on the development of the region. The thesis concludes that public policies for CCIs, especially in the music sector, can be an effective tool for promoting local economic development. However, an updated regulatory framework and specific public policies for the music sector, especially those classified under ISIC 5920, are required to promote knowledge, innovation, intellectual property, and collaboration among actors in the sector. In this way, this thesis contributes to the knowledge on the role of public policies in promoting CCIs and their impact on local economic development, and its results can be used by policymakers to design and implement more effective public policies in the music sector in Colombia and other Latin American cities. / Gómez Reyes, FM. Black Food Trucks Matter: A Qualitative Study Examining The (Mis)Representation, Underestimation, and Contribution of Black Entrepreneurs In The Food Truck Industry

Ariel D Smith (14223191) 11 August 2023 (has links)
<p>Food trucks have become increasingly popular over the last decade following the Great Recession of 2008. Scholars have begun to study the food truck phenomenon, its future projected trajectory, and even positioning it within social justice discourse along cultural lines; however, scholarship has yet to address the participation of Black entrepreneurs in the food truck industry.</p> <p><br></p> <p>The objective of this dissertation is to expand the perception of Black food entrepreneurs within the food truck industry by interrogating how Black food truck owners are misrepresented, under analyzed, and underestimated. Using a series of interdisciplinary qualitative methods including introspective analysis, thematic coding analysis, and case studies, I approach this objective by addressing three questions. First, I analyze movies and television to understand where Black-owned food trucks are represented in popular culture and how they are depicted. In doing so, we come to understand that Black business representation, specifically Black food truck representation consistently falls victim to negative stereotypes. These stereotypes can influence the extent to which Black food truck owners are taken seriously and seen as legitimate business leaders in their community. Second, I interview 16 Black food truck entrepreneurs to understand why the mobile food industry appealed to them and how it has become a platform for them to explore other opportunities. Finally, I review eight cities that have launched Black food truck festivals and parks within the last 6 years to gain an understanding of the collective power wielded by Black food truck owners and its impact Black communities. Moreover, this dissertation challenges the myth that collectivism does not exist among Black entrepreneurs and the Black community broadly.</p>
