An experiment was conducted in randomized complete blocks design with 14 cultivars of sunflower and 10 replications. The field plots consisted of four rows of six-meter long rows, spaced 0.7 m and 0.3 m between plants, with a total area of 16.8 m2. The useful area of the plot (7.56 m2), consisting of the two central rows, was divided into 12 basic units, each one consisting of three plants in the row (0.63 m2). The production of sunflower grains obtained in basic units was grouped in order to form portions of seven kinds of five different predefined sizes. The appropriate size of the experimental plot was estimated by the following methods: a) Intraclass correlation coefficient b) Maximum modified curvature c) Segmented linear model with plateau and d) Hatheway (1961). Were also estimated the soil heterogeneity coefficient (b) and the detectable difference among treatments (d). There was a reduction in the coefficient of variation with increasing the size of the plot. The soil of the experiment showed high heterogeneity ( = 1.0585). They were estimated by the methods of the intraclass correlation coefficient, maximum modified curvature and segmented linear model with plateau, respectively, the optimal plot sizes corresponding to 2.52, 3.74 and 2.48 m2. The maximum modified curvature method presented estimate of the optimum plot size more appropriate, together with the detectable difference between means of cultivars to accurately assess the yield of sunflower grain. The plot of 3.74 m2 of useful area was considered appropriate to assess the yield of sunflower grains and it was smaller than the size generally used in researches with sunflower. Though the Hatheway method (1961), they were estimated several very aplicable plot sizes. Considering all the cultivars for the same difference to be detected among means of cultivars, the use of a portion of smaller size with the largest number of replicates required less experimental area than the larger plots with a fewer number of replications / O objetivo desse trabalho foi determinar o tamanho adequado de parcela para experimentação de campo com girassol. Teoremas de comparação em variedades Käler e aplicações / Laplacian comparison of theorems for Käler manifolds and applications

Santos, Adina Rocha dos 25 March 2011 (has links)
In this work we present the proofs of the Laplacian comparison theorems for Kähler manifolds Mm of complex dimension m with holomorphic bisectional curvature bounded from below by −1, 1, and 0. The manifolds being compared are the complex hyperbolic space CHm, the complex projective space CPm, and the complex Euclidean space Cm, which holomorphic bisectional curvatures are −1, 1, and 0, respectively. Moreover, as applications of the Laplacian comparison theorems, we describe the proof of the Bishop- Gromov comparison theorem for Kähler manifolds and obtain an estimate for the first eigenvalue λ1(M) of the Laplacian operator, that is, λ1(M) ≤ m2 = λ1(CHm), and show that the volume of Kähler manifolds with holomorphic bisectional curvature bounded from below by 1 is bounded by the volume of CPm. The results cited above have been proved in 2005 by Li and Wang, in an article Comparison theorem for Kähler Manifolds and Positivity of Spectrum , published in the Journal of Differential Geometry. Os resultados citados acima foram provados em 2005 por Li e Wang no artigo Comparison Theorem for Kähler Manifolds and Positivity of Spectrum , publicado no Journal of Differential Geometry.

Constant mean curvature hypersurfaces on symmetric spaces, minimal graphs on semidirect products and properly embedded surfaces in hyperbolic 3-manifolds

Ramos, Álvaro Krüger January 2015 (has links)
We prove results concerning the geometry of hypersurfaces on di erent ambient spaces. First, we de ne a generalized Gauss map for a hypersurface Mn-1 c/ Nn, where N is a symmetric space of dimension n ≥ 3. In particular, we generalize a result due to Ruh-Vilms and make some applications. Then, we focus on surfaces on spaces of dimension 3: we study the mean curvature equation of a semidirect product R2 oA R to obtain height estimates and the existence of a Scherk-like minimal graph. Finally, on the ambient space of a hyperbolic manifold N of dimension 3 we give su cient conditions for a complete embedding of a nite topology surface ∑ on N with mean curvature |H∑| ≤ 1 to be proper.

Symétries, courants et holographie des spins élevés / Symmetries, currents and holography of higher spins

Meunier, Elisa 22 November 2012 (has links)
The higher spin theory is the field of theoretical physics at the center of this thesis. The general context of the birth of this theory is presenting in the introduction. The first part focuses on the ingredients (Noether method, generating functions and ambient formalism) for the construction of cubic vertices between a scalar matter field and a higher spin gauge field in a constant curvature space-time from conserved currents in flat space-time. In a second step, we prepare the around for a future test of the holographic correspondence in the cubic or quartic order in the coupling constant. More specifically, we review in detail the computation of some propagators, which leads us to calculate three-point functions involving two scalars. The last part, although always on the higher spin holography, deals with non-relativistic physics. Symmetries and currents of an ideal or unitary Fermi gas are studied. The link between relativistic and non-relativistic physics is obtained by Bargmann dimensional reduction.

Lemaire, Pierre 29 March 2013 (has links)
Historically and socially, the human face is one of the most natural modalities for determining the identity and the emotional state of a person. It has been exploited by computer vision scientists within the automatic facial analysis domain. Still, proposed algorithms classically encounter a number of shortcomings. They must be robust to varied acquisition conditions. Depending on the scenario, they must take into account intra-class variations such as expression, identity (for facial expression recognition), aging, occlusions. Thus, the 3D modality has been suggested as a counterpoint for a number of those issues. In principle, 3D views of an object are insensitive to lightning conditions. They are, theoretically, pose-independant as well. The present thesis work is dedicated to 3D Face Analysis. More precisely, it is focused on non-textured 3D Face Recognition and 3D Facial Expression Recognition. In the first instance, we have studied the benefits of a region-based approach to 3D Face Analysis problems. The general concept is that a face, when performing facial expressions, is deformed locally by the activation of muscles or groups of muscles. We then assumed that it was possible to decompose the face into several regions of interest, assumed to be either mimic or static. We have proposed a specific facial surface parametrization, based upon geodesic distance. It is designed to make region localization as robust as possible regarding expression variations. We have also used a region-based approach for 3D facial expression recognition, which allows us to compensate for errors relative to automatic landmark localization. We also wanted to experiment with a Representation Map system. Here, the main idea is to project 3D surface topology data on the 2D plan. This translation to the 2D domain allows us to benefit from the large amount of related works in the litterature. We first represent the face as a set of maps representing different scales, with the help of a geometric operator inspired by the Mean Curvature measure. For Facial Recognition, we perform a SIFT keypoints extraction. Then, we match extracted keypoints between corresponding maps. As for Facial Expression Recognition, we normalize and describe every map thanks to the Histograms of Oriented Gradients algorithm. We further classify expressions using multi-class SVM. In both cases, a simple fusion step allows us to aggregate the results obtained on every single map. Finally, we have studied the impact of 3D models degradations over the performances of 3D facial analysis algorithms. A 3D facial scan may be an altered representation of its real life model, because of several reasons, which range from the physical caption of the human model to data processing. We propose a methodology that allows us to quantify the impact of every single type of degradation over the performances of 3D face analysis algorithms. The principle is to build a database regarded as free of defaults, then to apply measurable degradations to it. Algorithms are further tested on clean and degraded datasets, which allows us to quantify the performance loss caused by degradations. As an experimental proof of concept, we have tested four different algorithms, as well as their fusion, following the aforementioned protocol. With respect to the various types of contemplated degradations, the diversity of observed behaviours shows the relevance of our approach.
