Propriétés magnétiques, orbitales et de transport d'hétérostructures basées sur LaMnO3

Dans la thèse nous traitons les propriétés magnétiques, orbitales et de transport des super-réseaux (LaMnO3) 2N (SrMnO3) N et des couches minces de LaxMnO3-d déposées par épitaxie à jet moléculaire (MBE) sur des substrats SrTiO3. Ces super-réseaux représentent un nouveau genre d'hétérostructure, récemment très étudié, composée par un nombre entier de mailles, où des effets de reconstruction électronique aux interfaces sont prévus. Dans la première partie du travail de thèse, des techniques de lithographie optique et des différentes techniques de dépôt sont utilisées afin d'effectuer des mesures de transport avec courant perpendiculaire à la surface des échantillons (CPP) et sous l'effet de champ électrique. La technique CPP peut donner de l'information supplémentaire sur les interfaces par rapport aux mesures de transport traditionnelles. L'effet de champ a été largement étudié dans des systèmes de manganite, puisque il représente une méthode pour changer la densité de porteurs, et afin de fabriquer des dispositifs à effet de champ avec des oxydes. On rapporte les résultats de l'optimisation de telles techniques, ainsi que l'optimisation des matériaux utilisés en tant qu'électrode de base, isolateur de flanc ou de barrière et électrode supérieure. Dans la deuxième partie de la thèse, les deux systèmes sont étudiés par des techniques traditionnelles (transport, aimantation par SQUID) et par des techniques d'absorption et d'émission de rayon X par rayonnement de synchrotron. Des informations précieuses sur le ferromagnétisme, l'antiferromagnétisme et l'ordre orbital sont obtenues.

The factors affecting availability of medicines in the Free State District Health Services

The purpose of this study was to identify and explore factors affecting medicine availability within the district health services. A qualitative descriptive, exploratory and contextual research design was followed. The data collection was conducted through two focus group discussions comprising of pharmaceutical managers and district health services managers respectively. The study found that medicine was not consistently available in the various districts, especially in community health centres and primary health clinics. The factors contributing to the non-availability of medicines include challenges with deliveries from Medical Depots, poor medicine stock management, shortage of pharmacists and pharmacist’s assistants in the facilities, lack of the electronic medicine management systems and the separate existence of Pharmaceutical Services and Medical Depot within the province. The study made recommendations on how to improve medicine availability within the district health services. / Health Studies / M.A. (Health Studies)

[pt] Desde o início dos anos 1980, esforços foram direcionados para modelar o fenômeno de deposição de parafinas. Ao longo dos anos, a avaliação crítica dos mecanismos da deposição de parafinas vem cedendo espaço ao desenvolvimento de correlações flexíveis capazes de acomodar diferentes situações testadas no laboratório. Numa tentativa de investigar o fenômeno em uma abordagem fundamental, o presente trabalho propôs uma estratégia de pesquisa que envolve avaliar cada pedaço do fenômeno de deposição de parafinas e garantir seus resultados ótimos. Para alcançar tal objetivo, uma nova estratégia para se avaliar modelos termodinâmicos de equilíbrio de fases sólido-líquido foi desenvolvida. Os resultados mostram que o modelo utilizado é robusto e preciso o suficiente para descrever tais fenômenos para misturas assimétricas em pressões ordinárias e altas, assim como descrever o comportamento de misturas complexas como amostras de óleo Diesel. Para garantir uma base física sólida dos resultados, a condutividade térmica de n-alcanos pesados foram medidos na fase líquida e na fase sólida e reportados na literatura pela primeira vez. Por fim, um modelo de escoamento de sólido-líquido foi proposto. Acoplado a um modelo termodinâmico capaz de gerar dados de equilíbrio de fases sólido-líquido e propriedades dessas fases, assim como combiná-las em propriedades da mistura, o modelo foi utilizado para descrever os resultados disponíveis na literatura. O mecanismo de deposição de parafinas avaliado se baseia no aumento da viscosidade com a temperatura e concentração de sólidos. Os resultados mostraram que embora houvesse um acordo qualitativo entre os resultados experimentais e os simulados, o modelo subestimou a espessura do depósito de parafinas. Por outro lado, o modelo foi capaz de descrever a condutividade térmica do depósito de acordo com os dados medidos experimentalmente para um depósito similar. Tal fato reforça as conclusões finais e indica que a deposição de parafinas parece não ser um fenômeno regido apenas por um mecanismo. / [en] Since the early 1980 s, efforts have been directed towards modeling the complex wax deposition phenomenon. Over the years, the critical evaluation of the wax deposition mechanisms proposed initially through a solid physical background start to make room to flexible codes that could be tuned to different experiment scenarios. In an attempt to investigate the phenomenon in a fundamental way, the current work proposed a research strategy that would evaluate every single part of the complex wax deposition model under well-controlled optimal conditions. To achieve such a goal, a new strategy to evaluate solid-liquid thermodynamic models was developed. Results showed that the model used was robust enough to precisely describe the solid-liquid phase behavior of asymmetric model mixtures at both ordinary and high pressures, as well as to describe the behavior of complex mixture like Diesel fuel samples. To assure the solid physical basis of the models being employed in this work, the thermal conductivity measurement of heavy n-alkanes in both liquid and solid phases was carried out and reported for the first time in the literature. At last, a drift flux solid-liquid CFD model was proposed. Coupled with a thermodynamic model to supply the model with phase equilibria and properties data, the model was used to investigate the experimental results available in the literature. The wax deposition mechanism evaluated was based on the viscosity increase due to the appearance of solids. The results showed that although a qualitative agreement between the model and experimental results were obtained, the model underestimated the thickness of the deposit. On the other hand, the thermal conductivity of the deposit matched the recently available experimental data on the thermal conductivity of such a deposit measured under flowing conditions. This fact strengthens the presented conclusions that wax deposition is not a single mechanism phenomenon after all. / [fr] Depuis le début des années 1980, des efforts ont été déployés pour modéliser le phénomène complexe de dépôt de cire. Au fil des années, l évaluation critique des mécanismes de formation de dépôts de cire limités initialement à la cristallisation des paraffines, a commencé à faire place à des algorithmes flexibles qui peuvent être adaptés à différents scénarios expérimentaux. Dans une tentative d étudier le phénomène de manière fondamentale, le travail actuel a consisté à proposer une stratégie globale de recherche qui permet d évaluer les différentes mécanismes impliqués dans la formation de dépôts de cire. Pour atteindre cet objectif, une nouvelle stratégie a tout d abord été proposée pour ajuster les modèles thermodynamiques utilisés pour décrire le comportement de phase solide-liquide. Les résultats de comparaison avec l expérience ont montré que la démarche proposée était suffisamment robuste pour décrire précisément le comportement de phase solide-liquide des mélanges synthétiques asymétriques aux pressions ordinaires ou très élevées, ainsi que pour représenter le comportement de mélanges complexes réels comme par exemple des carburants pour moteur Diesel. Dans un second temps, des mesures de conductivité thermique dans des n-alcanes lourds à l état liquide mais aussi solide ont été réalisées et rapportée pour la première fois ici afin d assurer une base physique solide dans les modèles utilisés dans ce travail. Enfin, un modèle CFD solide-liquide a été proposé. Couplé au modèle thermodynamique utilisé pour décrire les équilibres de phase et les propriétés thermophysiques, ce modèle a été utilisé pour étudier les résultats expérimentaux disponibles dans la littérature. Le mécanisme de dépôt de cire évalué était basé sur l augmentation de la viscosité devenue de l apparition des solides. Les résultats ont montré un accord qualitatif entre les prédictions du modèle et les observations expérimentales malgré une sous-estimation de l épaisseur du dépôt formé. D autre part, la conductivité thermique du dépôt estimée correspondait parfaitement à la conductivité thermique mesurée récemment dans des conditions d écoulement réelles.

An investigation into the elements influencing stock control and their relation to health care delivery in the public setting: Development of a stock control assessment tool

Masters of Science / The aim of this study was to develop a Stock Control Assessment Tool for use in the public health care sector and then to apply it to identify problems in the stock control system. This would help authorities to optimize the system. The advantages experienced with such a dynamic Assessment Tool were many: The Tool was quick and easy to apply; it was user friendly; it provided an immediate SWOT analysis of a particular facility; it is in line with the SA NDP directives and it provides an indication of which structures are in place and whether they are functioning properly. Furthermore; it could determine the increase or decrease in performance of a facility (therefore identify trends within the functional status of a system) when data is collected over a period of time; and finally, it could also be used to prioritize drug policy directives. The following steps were established in the development of the Tool: A literature review of pharmaceutical stock control and Drug Supply Management was addressed to provide the background information for the motivation of this study and to identify the various elements that could influence stock control at a facility level. Observational studies were applied at selected private and public facilities to observe the impact of these identified stock control elements. An 'ideal' stock control system was then generated from the literature review and observational assessment. A structured questionnaire was developed and surveyed at these facilities to generate key areas of concern of a stock control system. A study and adaptation of the indicator methods used by the World Health Organization (WHO) to monitor drug use in health facilities resulted in the formulation of a practical Stock Control Assessment Tool based on 11 key indicators and a number of sub-indicators, all of which were objectively defined. The Tool was then applied at selected public facilities and the results were analyzed quantitatively, qualitatively and subjectively. Each of the indicators was then applied and results examined closely with a view to possible refinements of the indicator. The refinements were made and the Tool was re-applied at two selected facilities. These two facilities were randomly selected from the original six facilities included for the testing of the Tool. Final conclusions and specific recommendations were generated to improve the stock control systems at the selected public health care facilities.

Stockholms läns landsting är en demokratiskt styrd organisation där en av huvuduppgifterna är att länets invånare får tillgång till en väl fungerande kollektivtrafik. Trafikförvaltningen i Stockholm ansvarar för att utveckla och förvalta kollektivtrafiken. Ett mål är att öka resandet med kollektivtrafiken och samtidigt uppnå miljömål. En ren, hel och lagom varm buss ökar kundnöjdheten och främjar dessutom arbetsmiljön för bussföraren. Idag är det vanligaste sättet att parkera våra bussar utomhus längs så kallade bussvärmeramper. Tekniken har genom åren förändrats i bussen men det har inte skett i samverkan med bussvärmerampen. Arbetsmiljön vid förarplatsen kräver enligt ett regeringsbeslut temperaturen 5 °C vid förararstolen och tillufttemperaturen 10 °C vid defrostermunstycket, vilket då är det minsta kravet när bussen ska tas i bruk vid arbetspassets början. Bussar som parkeras utomhus kräver stora mängder energi för att klara de krav som finns för bussförarens arbetsmiljö och om vi istället parkerar bussarna inomhus så kan vi spara pengar och uppnå organisationens miljömål på vägen. Syfte med examensarbetet är att undersöka hur snabbt det går att räkna hem en investering genom att bygga hall istället för bussvärmeramp. Arbetet belyser bussens parkering och arbetsmiljön för bussföraren och de fördelar och nackdelar som finns om vi istället parkerar våra bussar inomhus i hall. För att öka intresset för att förändra behöver vi lära oss mer om förutsättningarna i bussdepåerna och en investering kan hjälpa trafikförvaltningen i Stockholm att minska energianvändningen, öka kundnöjdheten, förbättra arbetsmiljön för bussföraren och skydda våra bussar mot väder och vind. / Stockholm County Council is a democratically controlled organization, one of their main responsibilities is that people has access to a well-functioning public transport. Trafikförvaltningen of Stockholm is responsible for developing and taking care of the public transport. One aim is to increase traveling by public transport while achieving environmental objectives. A bus that is clean, without any dents of fault and temperately warm will increase customer satisfaction and promote working as a bus driver. The most common way to park our buses today is outside lined up along the heating ramps. The technology in the bus has been developed over the years but the heat ramps haven’t been developed as much. The working environment the driver requires, according to a government decision, is temperature 5 °C at the driver's seat and supply air temperature 10 °C at the defroster jets these are the minimum requirements for the bus when it takes into service at the beginning of a shift. Buses parked outdoors require a large amount of energy to meet the requirements of the bus driver's working environment. If we instead park buses indoors we can save money and achieve environmental objectives. The aim of this master thesis is to investigate pay-back time for the investment of parking buses indoors instead of parking buses outdoors on heating ramp. The work highlights the bus parking condition and the working environment for the bus driver the advantages and disadvantages if we park our buses indoors in halls instead of outdoors. We need to learn more about the conditions in the bus depots to increase interest of change. An investment can help the organization achieve environmental goals, reduce energy consumption, improve the working environment for the bus driver, increase customer satisfaction and protect our buses from bad weather and become independent of the outdoor temperature.

Im Stadtmuseum Dresden wird eine umfangreiche Sammlung Dresdner Bürgerporträts des 19. Jahrhunderts verwahrt. Der Bestand von 2.700 Fotografien auf 2.100 Trägerkartons ist vom Gründungsdirektor des Museums, dem Historiker und Stadtarchivar Otto Richter (1852–1922), zwischen 1892 und 1912 angelegt und von seinen Nachfolgern bis zum Ende der 1930er Jahre fortgeführt worden. Die seither vor allem als Ressource für die Illustration von Publikationen genutzte Sammlung ist in den vergangenen Jahren aus unterschiedlicher Fachperspektive erstmals intensiv erforscht worden. Die Ergebnisse sind unter dem Titel „Die im Licht steh’n. Fotografische Porträts Dresdner Bürger des 19. Smart charging of an electric bus fleet

Controlling the balance of production and consumption of electricity will become increasingly challenging as the transport sector gradually converts to electric vehicles along with a growing share of wind power in the Swedish electric power system. This puts greater demand on resources that maintain the balance to ensure stable grid operation. The balancing act is called frequency regulation which historically has been performed almost entirely by hydropower. As the power production becomes more intermittent with renewable energy sources, frequency regulation will need to be performed in higher volumes on the demand side by having a more flexible consumption. In this report, the electrification of 17 buses Svealandstrafiken bus depot in Västerås has been studied. The aim has been to assess different charging strategies to efficiently utilize the available time and power but also to investigate if Svealandstrafiken can participate in frequency regulation. A smart charging model was created that demonstrated how smart charging can be implemented to optimize the charging in four different cases. The simulated cases were: charging with load balancing, reduced charging power, frequency regulation, and electrifying more buses. The results show that the power capacity limit will be exceeded if the buses are being charged directly as they arrive at the depot and without scheduling the charging session. By implementing smart charging, Svealandstrafiken can fully charge the 17 buses within the power capacity limit of the depot with 82 minutes to spare. By utilizing this 82-minute margin in the four different charging strategies, it was found that Svealandstrafiken can save 88 200SEK per year by load balancing, save 30 000 SEK per year by reducing the charging power by 10 %, earn 111 900 SEK per year by frequency regulation or electrify five more buses. Reducing the charging power may also increase the lifetime of the batteries but quantifying this needs further studies. Conclusively, there is economic potential for Svealandstrafiken for implementing smart charging.
