The study of the ERP system implemented by the major steel mill in Mainland China ¡VA case study on Wuhan Iron & steel Co.Wu, Tsung-Chi 31 July 2005 (has links)
The Study of the ERP system implemented by the major steel mills in mainland China - a case study on Wuhan Iron & Steel Co.
Since 1990s, the radical change of customer demand, short life cycle of products, and accelerating innovation of technology have driven the enterprises to carry on reform of the management style and renewal of the management skill. The reform of the management style is focused on BPR (Business Process Re-engineering), and the renewal of management is to implement ERP (Enterprise Resources Planning) system. It is generally recognized that information technology can upgrade the enterprise competence. Applying information technology on BPR to facilitate ERP implementation is also proved to be successful. Both of them are important elements to improve business management.
This research employs empirical studies about the implementation of ERP in large steel mills. Being different from the traditional manufacturing industries, the production type of large steel mills is a pyramid-shape model with higher difficulty, more financial and resource inputs.
There are four different implementation modules based on the cases studied in this research:
1. Start from the rationalization of business administration, and self-develop a proper ERP system;
2. Look for assistance from the experienced intra-industry companies, and collaborative-develop a system required;
3. Look for assistance from the consultant companies to integrate the package software; and
4. Look for assistance from the software companies with domain knowledge in the early period, and start self-developing in the late period.
All the implementing methodology, organization structure and principles of the four modules are described in this article. It is also our hope that the research result can help the enterprises to build up ERP.

Evolving assessment strategies in engineering education : perceptions and practicesWoyessa, Y.E., Van Tonder, S.P., Van Jaarsveldt, D. January 2013 (has links)
Published Article / In the actual learning situation, students develop context specific strategies for learning in response to their own perceptions of the requirements for learning. Among all the contextual factors, assessment has been demonstrated to have a powerful effect on the learning process and is a defining feature of the students' approach to learning. However, assessment in the engineering discipline is typically orientated towards demonstrating competence in specific tasks using only traditional assessment techniques. However, the effectiveness of education programmes is dependent on how well lecturers understand the role of assessment in student learning and how well they are prepared to change their strategy in such a way that they use assessment as a tool for the improvement of student learning.

Lacrosse : The development of Lacrosse in Sweden and the Netherlands : A trainers guide wayHoffer, Laurens January 2012 (has links)
Summary Lacrosse is a developing sport in Sweden and the Netherlands at the moment. Both countries have their initiatives and are playing the game for approximately 12 to 15 years. They are competing at World- and European tournaments and trying their best to professionalize their leagues. Nevertheless, there is still a long way to go for both countries before they can measure themselves with the top Lacrosse countries Canada and the USA. In these countries Lacrosse is played for many years, the level of professionalization and trainings methods are more developed and thereby maybe helpful to develop the level in Europe as well. Aim During this research a comparison is made between the (different) approaches in the sport of Lacrosse, by the four ‘investigated countries’. Where does opportunities occur for developing Lacrosse in Sweden and the Netherlands? Main aim of this research is to find out where the possibilities are for the development of Lacrosse. Both Sweden and the Netherlands want to compete on a higher level of Lacrosse, but at the moment the knowledge about the sport is not sufficient enough. Method During this research several sources are consulted for getting information. Seven semi-structured interviews were being held among Swedish and Dutch Lacrosse trainers. Besides these interviews the Canadian Lacrosse Federation was contacted by mail, and the Strategic Plan 2008 – 2012 was examined. Third source of collection information was by searching online databases for evidence-based researches. Results The outcomes showed that there are many opportunities to start with the development of Lacrosse. Position specific Lacrosse training could provide more structured training design and thereby increasing the level of Lacrosse players. Coaches should be trained, and the federations should start professionalizing as well. Besides these results trainers spoke about the importance of starting a youth Lacrosse initiative. Conclusion If the approach in Sweden and the Netherlands is compared to the level of Lacrosse in Canada both countries need to start putting actions into efforts. Both federations have good intentions but they both are unsure about how to start the development of Lacrosse.

The study of trainee¡¦s learning motivation in public vocational school & the relationship of career development by the governmental institution commissionedFeng Shih, Ching 19 June 2011 (has links)
Abstract
As we know that the social and economic environment has been changed rapidly and the types of employment have also been diversified in the new era. Nevertheless, due to the technology evolution, business transforming, the changing of manpower structure and the employment condition is unstable, so the rate of unemployment remain highly. Therefore, we expect that the training of vocational skills would be an important mechanism to develop secondary specialty and expend the manpower resources.
Before 1980s¡¦, the required qualification of teachers and program arrangements of the public vocational training institutions were good model for these private corporations. However, in order to adapt to the impact by globalization and liberalization, the business structure has been adjusted to high-capital and high-technology. The government, however, try to increase the employment opportunity and use the manpower efficiently to maintain a substantial economic activity. Yet, increasing the professional knowledge and skills is crucial in this employment market.
Nowadays, the labor is facing a flexible employment market. In order to adapt to this circumstance, ¡§lifelong study¡¨ is obviously an important issue for the labor, especially ¡§vocational training¡¨. The ultimate purpose of vocational training is to improve the employer¡¦s expertise and skills and meet the needs of personal, corporation and social and finally, full employment.
The subjects are the members who attend the vocational training program of former Kaohsiung county government and Kaohsiung city government. And further analyze the motive of the members and the career development capacity after training. We release 700 questionnaires and 504 returned validly. Afterwards, by using appropriate analyzes procedures, there are 8 analyzes carried out in this research, they are: internal motivation, employment motivation, outer motivation, self-understanding, career information, career exploration, career planning and career determination. According to the results of previous analysis, they confirmed that when the member¡¦s learning determination is strong, the career development capacity will be higher. On the other hand, As the coefficient£]of learning motivation is a plus, the prediction value of career development capacity is more reliable.
In conclusion, the higher of the learning motivation of the vocational training program members, the more of the satisfaction. Furthermore, they are willing to attend another or more learning programs. Therefore, the satisfaction of learning and career development ability is positive relationship.
Key words: business structure, employment safety, vocational training, learning motive, career develop

The main conclusions of this research are as following¡G
Sum up the motive force which puts incomes with passion, understand the forming influence factor of the professional passionate behavior and behavior result of supervening from it, and carry on the discussion to the professional passion development of the current situation of Taiwan.
The meaning with professional passion is aggressive , disregards cost paying , glad sharing , professional curiosity and keeps improving this five behaviors type, and it is different to some extent between professional passion and profession commitment, the profession commitment accord with professional passion at least, but the professional committer can be called professional enthusiasm.
In addition also find that the family studies the origin under positive helping hand, it is relatively high to produce the possibility with professional passion, but still need to consider the reverse side result that the family studies the origin. And current situation in Taiwan is because of the environment and system factors, the development space of professional passion is limited¡Fand improving current situation, it will contribute to the social progress of specialization and professionalism.

Local content development in the Nigerian oil and gas industry : why it is not succeeding? / C.O. ObiObi, Chuka Obinna January 2008 (has links)
This research focuses on human capacity development in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. The need for local capacity building in this industry is imperative because oil and gas proceeds are the major source of foreign exchange earnings for the country. Oil has been exploited in Nigeria for over five decades and there is still relatively poor local participation and hence the need for this research. The idea is to encourage local participation so as to promote economic growth and industrial development.
This research identifies reasons for the ineffective implementation of the Nigerian content policy and will develop a framework that will address holistically the factors needed to ensure industrial growth through proper implementation and particular attention is paid to specific factors that enhance participation of local firms in the oil and gas industry.
The experience of Norway will be used as a case study to demonstrate the means by which they were able to achieve domestically based industrial competence while exploiting their petroleum resources and also the necessary conditions that was in place that encouraged proper exploitation of their resources. / Thesis (M.Ing. (Development and Management Engineering))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2009.

Contributing to develop contributions : - a metaphor for teaching in the reform mathematics classroomEckert, Andreas January 2017 (has links)
This thesis aims at contributing to the theoretical research discourse on teaching mathematics. More precise, to explore a teacher’s role and actions while negotiating meaning of mathematical objects in discursive transformative practices in mathematics. The focus is to highlight the teacher as an active contributor to the classroom mathematical discourse, having an important role in shaping the mathematics. At the same time, the teacher is acknowledged as an individual who learns and develops as a lesson and semester progress. Three research papers illustrate the state, at that time, of an inductive analysis of three teachers, teaching a series of lessons based on probability theory at two Swedish primary schools. The teachers worked together with the students to explore an unknown sample space, made up out of an opaque bottle with coloured marbles within that showed one marble at each turn of the bottle. They had to construct mathematical tools together to help them solve the mystery. The analysis focused on teacher–student interactions during this exploration, revealing complex connections in the process of teaching. The three papers presented the development of a theoretical framework named Contributing to Develop Contributions (CDC). The frameworks’ fundamental idea is that teachers learn as they teach, using the teaching metaphor learning to develop learning. That metaphor was developed, in light of the ongoing empirical analysis, into CDC by drawing on a theoretical idea that learning can be viewed as contributing to the collaborative meaning making in the classroom. Teaching and teacher learning are described and understood as reflexive processes in relation to in-the-moment teacher-student interaction. Contributing to develop contributions consists of three different ways of contributing. The analytical categories illustrate how students’ opportunities to contribute to the negotiation of mathematical meaning are closely linked to teachers’ different ways of contributing. The different ways are Contributing one’s own interpretations of mathematical objects, Contributing with others’ interpretations of mathematical objects, and Contributing by eliciting contributions. Each way of contributing was found to have the attributes Transparency, Role-taking and Authority. Together, these six categories show teacher– student interaction as a complex dynamical system where they draw on each other and together negotiate meaning of mathematical objects in the classroom. This thesis reveals how the teaching process can be viewed in terms of learning on different levels. Learning as thought of in terms of contributing to the negotiation of meaning in the moment-to-moment interaction in the classroom. By contributing you influence the collective’s understanding as well as your own. A teacher exercises and develops ways of contributing to the negotiation of meaning of mathematical objects, in order to develop students’ contributions. In a wider perspective, the analysis showed development over time in terms of transformation. The teachers were found to have transformed their understanding of classroom situations in light of the present interactions. Contributing to the negotiation of meaning in the classroom was understood as a process in such transformation, in the ever ongoing becoming of a mathematics teacher.
