Iniciace injekčního užívání návykových látek a uplatnění intervence "Break the Cycle" / Iniciace injekčního užívání návykových látek a uplatnění intervence "Break the Cycle"

Al-Halabiová, Ria January 2022 (has links)
Background: Injecting drug use is one of the most risky forms of substance use that carries risks for individuals and society. The Czech Republic is one of the countries where the prevalence of injecting drug use is high and increasing. The available data show that learning to inject has, among other things, a social character. Exploring these social circumstances, as well as the personal experiences of people who inject drugs, can be a tool for designing and implementing appropriate prevention interventions. One of these effective interventions is the Break the Cycle method, which refers to the initiation of injecting as a phenomenon that can be transmitted to inexperienced persons on the basis of social learning. Reducing the assistance of experienced persons in the initiation of injection to inexperienced persons, reducing injection in front of inexperienced persons, and refusing to discuss the benefits of injection with inexperienced persons can have a positive impact on the incidence of injection use in the Czech population. Aims and Methods: The aim of this study is to provide information on the essential phenomena related to the initiation of injection drug use and to explore the experience of clients of the Prague contact centre with their initiation of injection use and their experiences...

PROSTITUTION OCH NARKOTIKAHANDEL PÅ HOTELL : HOTELLANSTÄLLDAS UPPLEVELSER / Prostitution and Drug Trade in Hotels : The Experience of Hotel Employees

Rinaldo, Andréa, Rolfsson, Jonna, Topgaard, Thea January 2021 (has links)
During the current covid-19 pandemic the Police authority in Malmö has received information from local hotels that a more prominent criminal clientele has been observed, a criminal clientele involved in drug trade and prositution. Therefore, the aim of this qualitative report is to gather further information from the employees of hotels about their perceived picture of this more prominent criminality. In addition to this, the report aims to compare how the employees perceive the current frequency of crimes, compared to before the pandemic severely diminished the number of guests staying at the hotel. Interviews were conducted with employees at hotels in Malmö and Lund to study both questions to give a better understanding of the framework of the problem. The results show that the perceived frequency of drug trade and prostitution varies between the two cities. The three hotels from Lund describe the two crime types as a rare occurrence. Malmö on the other hand, where only one hotel participated, had experienced a larger frequency of both of the studied crime types. All the hotels from both cities are however unanimous in that they don’t see a big difference between pre-pandemic times and spring of 2021 when this report was conducted. If anything, the changes they have seen has been that the numbers are dropping.

[en] DRUG MARKETS AND VIOLENCE: EVIDENCE FROM BRAZIL / [pt] MERCADOS DE DROGAS E VIOLÊNCIA: EVIDÊNCIAS DO BRASIL

GUILHERME COELHO NETTO AVELAR 25 May 2021 (has links)
[en] We use data for hospitalizations due to drug use, and we create a measure for the emergence of drug markets (drug entry) in Brazilian municipalities. Using this measure, we ask whether drug entry is associated with the rise in violence seen in Brazil during the 2000 s. We estimate a positive association between drug entry and homicide rates, with a stronger association for homicides against young males murdered by fire weapons. We also find that the presence of slums makes this association stronger.

COLLAGEN MATRIX MODIFICATIONS IMPACT ON MATRIX MICROSTRUCTURE AND MASS TRANSPORT OF MACROMOLECULES

Alexandra Lynn Plummer (14227688) 07 December 2022 (has links)

Subcutaneous injection is a biotherapeutic drug delivery method that is currently growing due to low cost, better patient compliance, minimally invasive, and the convenience that it can be done at home. Common injection sites for subcutaneous injection include the upper outer arms, abdomen, buttocks, and upper outer thigh. Heterogeneity of the tissue exists between and within each of these locations. The subcutaneous tissue space is made up of adipose tissue, proteins, collagen, and blood vessels and each of these components has an impact on the mass transport of the injected biotherapeutics and how they are absorbed into the vascular system and then distributed to the body. The current methods used to model the subcutaneous tissue space are either very expensive and not feasible for multiple repetitions, cannot incorporate fibrillar proteins or cellular components, or model a more homogeneous tissue space. These limitations do not allow for these models to accurately represent the subcutaneous tissue space. The engineering objective for this project was to develop a platform with tunable matrix architecture and biochemical composition for evaluating mass transport. This project utilizes collagen and the primary matrix due to the large abundance of collagen in the body. We explored the effects that a change in polymerization temperature of the collagen and collagen concentration had on the fiber architecture and pore diameter. The results showed that higher polymerization temperatures of the collagen gels resulted in smaller fiber and pore diameters and an increase in concentration resulted in an increase in fiber volume fraction and a decrease in pore diameter. Fibronectin (FN) and hyaluronic acid (HA) were added to the collagen gels to analyze the impact on the structure of collagen gels with a change in polymerization temperature and collagen concentration. The addition of FN did not strongly alter the collagen fiber architecture between polymerization temperatures and collagen concentrations. Through staining and imaging, we saw an aggregation of FN around the collagen fibrils due to their opposing charges causing them to bind. The addition of HA had moderate impact on collagen fiber architecture across all polymerization temperatures and between collagen concentrations. The collagen + FN gels were used for the mass transport study. The results showed that there was little to no difference between the recovery rates of macromolecules of different charges and size between the collagen and collagen + FN gels, indicating that the transport of molecules through both of the collagen gels was impacted by a steric effect rather than an effect in charge.

Establishing an Essential Medicine List for the State of Kuwait

Alayadhi, Nadyah Y.A.H. January 2017 (has links)
The Health Sector at the state of Kuwait is facing many challenges. One of which is public expectations in health are high, and thus, the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Kuwait has amplified the health expenditure by 86% since 2007. And since the medicine budget represents half of the total MOH budget, it is proposed that the development in health policy might be a suitable tool to control the inflation within the health budget. This thesis examines the opportunities and challenges of introducing an EML in Kuwait and the factors influencing its effectiveness. A mixed-methodology approach has been used to enhance and validate the data, in the form of interviews, comparative studies and questionnaires. One major limitation to the research was the lack of previous data relating to this work, and the information should be gathered in person in the form of hard copies, and later, the data was analysed using qualitative and quantitative approaches. It has been attained that, the EML might be a valuable tool if adopted and implemented appropriately, EML adjustment to country health situation is crucial for successful utilisation and fulfilling the concept objectives. Standard Treatment Guidelines are fundamental part of EM selection process, in Kuwait there were lack in the uniformity of the local STG, but fortunately, there is an eagerness to innovate, and the medicine situation might benefit from a type of organisation, overall, if the EML implemented efficiently in Kuwait, it might help in improving the general health and control the inflation in MOH budget.

Förebyggande arbete mot narkotikaanvändning bland ungdomar : En kvalitativ intervjustudie utifrån ett samverkansperspektiv / Preventive work against drug use among young people : A qualitative interview study based on a collaboration perspective

Helge, Ewelina, Börjesson, Vilma January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to, through qualitative interviews, contribute to a deeper understanding of how collaboration between human-treating organizations, which work preventively against drug use among young people in X-municipality, continues in practice. Therefore, we also want to investigate how this collaboration is experienced within four human-treating organizations. These are the police, social services, field group and student health team at school in X-municipality. This was done with the help of nine qualitative interviews in semi-structured form. The results of the interview material were analyzed using organizational theory and previous research. From the results, we could see that collaboration is perceived as an important phenomenon where the organizations collaborate to some extent, but not as much as they would like. Where organizational factors such as regulations, personal interaction and different approaches to the social problem affect the extent to which cooperation takes place.
