Live Electronic Arts und Intermedia : die 1960er Jahre / Live Electronic Arts and Intermedia : the 1960s. On Performance and Contemporary Technology, Cybernetic Models and Minimalistic Art Strategies

Büscher, Barbara 03 August 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The developments of transgression and process-orientation, which in art history are designated as the Neo-Avantgarde of the early 1960s, form the central subject of this text with its exemplary analyses. They involve the fundamental innovations, which - initiated by John Cage's ideas and concepts - characterised the work of the composers/performers of Live Electronic Music, as well as the expansion of artistic materials and the modification of art's techniques since Happening and Fluxus. They also cover the minimalistic shifts in the understanding of bodily movement and objects above all in the dance/performance of the New York based Judson Dance Group and the performative investigation of the foundations of cinema/film perception in the Expanded Cinema. A twofold historical movement is illustrated in these three areas: on the one hand, the movement of cancellation, postponement, substitution of conventional parameters and value hierarchies; on the other, one of interest in the connection between art and the media triggered by the thrust of development in the technological media and their effects on society and perception. An important point of intersection of these developments manifests itself in the performances of the since legendary Nine Evenings: Theatre and Engineering, which took place in New York in 1966. The analysis of this event, of the process of work that preceded it and which involved artists and engineers in equal measure, as well as of the individual performances forms the basis of this investigation. That system theory and cybernetics should be developed as a working hypothesis for art production can be demonstrated not only through manifestations of this event, but also through contemporary discourses in the field of art. In this context, Live Electronic Arts means the immediately (currently) performed action in a perfomative configuration using technological media. The artists themselves understand this relation as an interconnection of human being and machine. The process of construction becomes an essential component of the artistic strategy. The inclusion of contemporary technologies becomes relevant not as a question about the novelty of the modes of representation, but as a question about the processes of structuring, regulating and the transmission of signals (control & communication), thus about processes that structure the performance with these technologies. Beginning with the Nine Evenings and the participating artists (musicians, dancers, choreographers, as well as visual artists and film makers), this text provides a detailed investigation into the series of experiments of the individual artists, to which the experimental performances can be attributed. It demonstrates for all three areas (Live Electronic Music, the perfomative practices of the Judson Dance Group, and Expanded Cinema) under what circumstances interest in and work on the interconnection of bodily movement and technological systems arose.

Bergeron, Jacques 04 1900 (has links)
This master thesis presents a software architectural pattern for use in an object oriented environment to simultaneously access objects in multiple functional hierarchies. A Description Logics (Semantic Web) reasoner is used to classify the objects in the hierarchies. Object creation is simplifed by the use of an ORM - Object Relational Mapper. The pattern effectively allows automatic reasoning procedures to be used in an enterprise application context. All concepts required to understand the architectural pattern and the tools are presented. Usage conditions for the pattern are discussed and research projects are presented to widen the pattern’s applicability. A prototype applying the pattern on a simple problem is presented. A methodology is also presented. Finally, other potential uses of Description Logics based automatic reasoning procedures are discussed.

[en] STORY ENGINEERING: A STUDY OF THE AUTOMATIC STORY GENERATION AND TELLING / [pt] ENGENHARIA DE ESTÓRIAS: UM ESTUDO SOBRE A GERAÇÃO E NARRAÇÃO AUTOMÁTICA DE ESTÓRIAS

FABIO WANDERLEY GUERRA 29 May 2008 (has links)
[en] This dissertation investigates the problem of story telling and generation, whose increasingly recognized relevance is mostly due to the popularization of interactive media, such as digital TV and video-games. The work initiates with a state of the art survey, detailing the major story representation models and the most used methods in literary work production. The use of the term story engineering was proposed to emphasize that story telling and generation should be viewed as an engineering process. The fundamental problem was divided into three subproblems. The first one is how to generate stories, the second is how to tell them to the public and the last is how to create, store and query the knowledge base used for story engineering. Finally, as a case study, a prototype capable of automatically generating and telling stories was designed and programmed. Generation is done by a planner, using the Hierarchical Task Network algorithm. Storytelling applies a natural language generation tool. The knowledge base is stored under the form ofXMLdocuments, and a tool was implemented to simplify their preparation.

"Modelo de avaliação do processo de gerência de configuração de software" / "Evaluation model of software configuration management process"

Cia, Thais Miranda 10 May 2006 (has links)
The Configuration Management has been studied since the 70’s. In the beginning it was applied in the same way for software and hardware, but in the late 70’s there were some specific configuration management patterns defined for software. The demand for software quality has increased recently, this way the configuration management practices have been more used in software development, because the software configuration management is one of the most important processes to assess quality during software development or maintenance. Although its use is increasing, there is no consensus about the configuration management practices and the names applied to them. The objective of this work is to elaborate an evaluation model for configuration management process, to evaluate the practices and the fundamental processes to perform configuration management, based on the most important software development standards. This evaluation model can also be used to evaluate configuration management tools, identifying what practices and process it help to execute.
