Etges, Ana Paula Beck da Silva January 2015 (has links)
Companies with innovation-oriented strategy are subject to uncertainties and risks, which lack the management practices for the use of quantitative indicators and especially in currency format. Influenced by this context, this work proposes, tests and validates a risk management model oriented to innovation processes that allows us to measure economic indicators of risk impact. From these, is discussed the effect that the risks identified from the innovation process refer to the corporate management of the company. To achieve this result, structured the analysis in three steps: (i) identification of major risk events that are tangent innovative environment through a systematic literature review, followed by a survey of Brazilian Technology Parks companies; (ii) search for the main techniques of analysis and identification of risk used in innovation processes, from a systematic literature review and prototype model proposition risk management oriented innovative processes; and (iii) testing and validation of the prototype model in a real environment with innovative strategy -company installed in a Brazilian-Technology Park, by conducting a Case Study, allowing discussion of the business impact that the risks analyzed from the process innovation refer. Among the tools that support the model, there is the use of probabilistic risk analysis through Monte Carlo simulation related to the cost of the innovation process, calculated from the implementation of Activity-based Costing method. Contributes academically by the suggestion of an economic indicator, translated through the Value at Risk, to the process of innovation in a company, which is still scarce in the literature. With regard to the contribution to the practical environment, the model indicates sequential modules and tools for businesses it can replicate in different environments.

Modelo para Identificação e Gerenciamento do Grau de Risco de Empresas - MIGGRI

Souza, Joana Siqueira de January 2011 (has links)
Recently, Risk Management issues have been widely discussed. There is an increasing need to identify, measure and control the levels of risk within enterprises as the levels of uncertainty that surround them also rise. Risk management, however, is commonly discussed at the level of projects, when the aim is to assess the risks associated with an investment project. Notwithstanding the importance and necessity of such information, nowadays it is necessary to expand the information on risks, attempting to identify the risks that affect the enterprise as a whole, focusing on its different types of business. In this context there arises the concept of Enterprise Risk Management – ERM, methodology whose objective is to identify, measure and control business risks and which is the central theme of the present research. Models such as COSO (2007) and regulations such as AS/NZS 4360 (1999) and ISO 31000 (2009) have already been developed for Enterprise Risk Management; however, in these models much attention has been given to the steps that must be developed for a complete management without clearly associating the tools and concepts that must be used in each step, and there is also a focus restricted to the quantitative aspects, while there is difficulty in the assessment of risks classified as qualitative. Therefore, this research aims at presenting the construction of a Conceptual Model for Enterprise Risk Management, validated by means of a Field Study in two companies that employ the ERM process in a relatively structured form. This resulted in a Preliminary Model, whose main objective is to create a set of partial and global indicators that aid managers in controlling risks to which their businesses are exposed, allowing for a comparison between different Business Units (BU) in a same organization. The Preliminary Model is supported by a control matrix structure and is composed of six stages: (i) Structuring and Planning – focused on organizing the Risk Management process in the company, (ii) Risk Context – whose objective is to identify and rank the risks to which the BUs are exposed; (iii) Risk Exposure Level – aims to assess quantitatively and qualitatively the risks prioritized at the previous stage, attempting to calculate the proposed risk indicators, generating the risk level (RL) of each BU; (iv) Intended risk level – this stage aims to identify the level of tolerance to risk intended by the company, having the intention of aligning the calculated RL to what the organization tolerates; (v) Treat the risks – stage in which the critical risks are identified and contingency measures are proposed for the reduction of the RL of each BU assessed; and (vi) Risk monitoring – stage of constant risk management, in which control responsibilities are defined in regards to a horizontal risk monitoring, comparing the different BUs of the organization. This Preliminary Model was applied in a large-sized company in the construction industry, and its two BUs were assessed. During the application, the six stages were carried out, and it was possible to calculate the risk level of each BU, to define the contingency measures for the most critical risks, and to structure a formal control process aligned with the expectations of the organization. Finally, a final model was generated, called MIGGRI – Modelo para Identificação e Gerenciamento do Grau de Risco de Empresas (Model for the Management and Identification of Risk Level in Enterprises), with some alterations due to the practical application, concluding that the model developed fills the gaps identified in the literature on Risk Management, thus contributing to this arising field of research.

Aplicación de buenas prácticas de Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) a un proyecto inmobiliario / Application of Good practices of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) to a real estate project

Casas Tuanama, Brenda Laura, Cirilo García, José, Guzmán Saavedra, Gabriela, Seminario Cruz, Isabel Elena 09 June 2019 (has links)
The real estate sector is exposed to external factors that constantly vary, affecting the fulfillment of the strategic objectives of the organization. “The Inmobiliaria”, the Real Estate company of the case under study uses risk management only at the project level and it is necessary to incorporate other sources of risks such as financial, operational and reputational that could impact the performance of the project and its results. In search of value creation, it must be established that this not only means the success of the project but also of the operation, asset management, etc., that is, a comprehensive and holistic management. Therefore, it was decided to investigate the ERM, whose acronym means Enterprise Risk Management, and apply its good practices in a particular the Inmobiliaria project through the inclusion of organizational, project and external risks. For this, the culture of the company will be known, the Business Case will be carried out, which cover of the construction and operation of a 10-story prime and retail office building located in Miraflores district in Lima Peru. It is estimated that the project will have a NPV of 68.6 MM USD with an IRR of 10.1% in an operation time of 40 years, as well as an execution time of one (01) year for the pre-construction phase and two (02) years for the construction phase. In addition, a theoretical introduction to ERM will be considered to culminate with the design of the reference framework, where risks are exposed at all levels. Finally, it will be possible to show the benefits that its implementation entails and future recommendations for its implementation will be reflected. / Trabajo de investigación

Bitcoin: Svenska företags riskhantering

Hysing, Nils, Helmi Zadeh, Loei January 2022 (has links)
Because the currency is relatively new and decentralized, risks like companies trust in a foreign system, political risks and increasing volatility are higher in comparison with fiat currencies. The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze how the Swedish companies that trade with Bitcoin identify and manage the risk that occurs in connection with trading of the currency. Swedish companies that trade with Bitcoin need to identify the risks which they are exposed to. The identified risks needs to be managed by the respective companies which can be done through the three steps that constitutes effective risk management. To answer the purpose of the study, we conducted semi structured interviews with four Swedish companies that trade with Bitcoin. We have then analyzed the data with a thematic analysis. The study shows that the risks that the responders have identified is in line with the study's theoretical framework and that the Swedish companies that participated are not using a risk management model. Despite this, there were some similarities with the responders reasoning and effective risk management even if they stated that they have not incorporated the model in their organization.

Venter, Anna Catharina 30 November 2005 (has links)
The occurence of procurement fraud requires from the management of the enterprise, the risk manager of the enterprise as well as the internal auditor to effectively address procurement fraud risks within the enterprise risk management concept. The purpose of the study is to set a procurement fraud risk management process in place which will serve as a comprehensive framework for the enterprise risk manager as well as the internal auditor to limit the enterprise's exposure to procurement fraud risks as far as possible. The study firstly focus on the analysis of the steps within the procurement process which is the starting point for the identification of the fraud risks. Secondly the enterprise risk management model is applied in the format of a procurement risk matrix within the procurement function. The study is an indication that procurement fraud cannot be completely prevented but that the appearance thereof can be limited by means of the extensive procurement fraud risk management model. Recommendations for future studies include the application of the enterprise risk management model in other functional areas within the enterprise. / Auditing / M. Com. (Auditing)

A modelling process of short-term interest rate risk management for the South African commercial banking sector

Sun, Jiaqi 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MComm (Business Management))--University of Stellenbosch, 2011. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study focuses on banking book interest rate risk management, more specifically shortterm interest rate risk management problems. This type of risk is induced by the inflation targeting policy of the South African Reserve Bank. As a result, inflation leads to an uncertain interest rate cycle and a period of uncertain interest rate levels as it relates to lending and borrowing products in the South African commercial banking sector. The lending rates of most South African commercial banks are tied to the prime overdraft rate. The borrowing rates are linked to the money market rates such as the Johannesburg Interbank Agreed Rate (JIBAR) which is indirectly affected by the prime overdraft rate. Hence, lending and borrowing rates are related to the repo-rate. Furthermore, a fixed relationship exists between the prime overdraft rate and the repo-rate. The monetary policy committee meets every two months during the year to make inflation and repo-rate adjustments, as stipulated in the inflation targeting policy. A subject portfolio containing fixed-rate loans, advances and floating-rate deposits is exposed to the change of the repo-rate. This short-term banking book interest rate risk is defined based on the fact that the repo-rate adjustment occurs every two months, the banking book risk management is short term focused, and hedging instruments against interest rate risk are short term dated contracts. Such a short term risk may have a negative impact on the bank’s profitability. The study starts with a review of the bank risk management processes, and then discusses the enterprise risk management framework that guides the formation of the risk management processes and systems. In order to benchmark against international risk management practices, a comparative analysis is carried out to evaluate the risk management tendencies of bank risk management in South Africa and globally. The empirical findings reveal that most banks (i.e. eighty per cent of all local banks) manage the short-term interest rate risk by following the same process as the interest rate risk in general. The key elements (risk identification, measurement, mitigation and monitoring and reporting) of the banking book interest rate risk management are not linked together as a systematic process. This is not in line with the Basel II Accord to manage market risks through a process approach. The study also proposes a generic short-term interest rate risk management framework and in doing so, addresses some of the weaknesses of current risk management practices. Based on this framework, the South African banks may develop their own processes to manage such short-term banking book interest rate risk exposure. Some of the problems of bank risk management that come to light from the empirical findings, are summarised in the last chapter and may be considered for future research.

Gestão de riscos corporativos (ERM) e sua relação com o desempenho inovador de empresas de grande porte no Brasil / The relation between enterprise risk management (ERM) and innovation performance of Brazil\'s large companies

Massaini, Silvye Ane 04 October 2017 (has links)
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) has gained importance in the context of business administration, as a fundamental process in order to maximize the probability of achieving the strategic objectives. Concomitantly, innovation has become an imperative for achieving competitive advantage, in view of an increasingly dynamic and interrelated environment. However, while companies must innovate to survive, innovation can also be influenced by risks present in the business environment. Considering this frame, this study aims to understand the influence of enterprise risk management\'s practices on innovation performance, focusing on Brazilian large companies. The quantitative research, which presents descriptive nature, was developed using structural equation modeling technique, based on the method of partial least squares (PLS). The results point to a positive and significant relationship between ERM practices and innovative performance. In addition, the variables internal environment and risk appetite are relevant and statistically significant for this association.

Ferro, Daniel dos Santos 07 October 2015 (has links)
This is a research about enterprise risk management in non-financial sector companies. There are rules, tools and methods that assist companies in managing their risks, however it turns out that there is a gap regarding the impossibility of establishing a standard model to manage risk, because a single methodology would not be able to deal with the specificities of each company. Consequently, each organization needs to develop its own way of managing their risks, according to his profile, size, industry and available resources. Accordingly, the main objective of this study is to analyze the process of enterprise risk management in non-financial sector companies in order to identify what are the key issues considered for structuring a risk area; describe the analysis of the environmental (internal and external) in which the company operates; and see which are the main agents, processes, methodologies, standards and tools used to manage risks in these companies. In order to achieve that, this study was developed from a qualitative and descriptive research, based on multiple case study, permitting a deep analysis of the organizational reality of the companies chosen; in order to understand how they structure their enterprise risk management process. The results show that in the studied companies demonstrate alignment with the main directions indicated in the literature to manage risks, differing only about particular issues arising from their specific organizational realities.
