Justice League vs The Fatal Five : Protagonisten, bikaraktärerna och den terapeutiska resan avkaraktärsutveckling

Edlund, Noa January 2020 (has links)

Asphyxiation, Non-Fatal Strangulation, and Firearms within IPV: Prevalence and Screening

Carpenter, Rachel, Stinson, Jill 18 March 2021 (has links)
One incidence of intimate partner non-fatal strangulation (NFS) significantly increases the risk of homicide by asphyxiation (i.e., deprivation of oxygen resulting in death). The implications of NFS are well examined but the prevalence and dyadic influences of asphyxiation are less understood. This study examined various relationship types to determine if those defined by longevity and intimacy (e.g., dating and spousal) demonstrated the highest risk for NFS/asphyxiation, and evaluated the prevalence of other types of force at the time of the assault (e.g., firearms, personal weapons). Data for this project were obtained from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s online incident-based reporting system. There were 34,448 reported cases of intimate partner violence (IPV) in 2019 included in the analysis. Independent variables included the survivor-offender relationship, (dating, marital, acquaintance) the force involved at the time of the assault, including the use of a firearm, NFS, asphyxiation, dangerous weapons (knife/cutting instrument, blunt object), or personal weapons, (hands, fist, feet, arms, teeth) and the location of the assault. The dependent variable was classified by the offense type (aggravated assault, simple assault, homicide, and forcible rape). Data were first cleaned using KuTools for Excel, 23.00 and then analyzed in SPSS Version 25. Regarding homicide, the most lethal type of force involved was not asphyxiation (6.5%; n = 3), but instead the use of a firearm (56.5%; n = 26), followed by dangerous weapons, (23.9%; n =11). The majority of NFS cases were classified as aggravated assaults (95.3%; n = 528) and mainly occurred at the survivor/victim’s residence (85.1%; n = 441). Regarding dyadic influences, the majority of incidents of NFS/asphyxiation occurred in dating (boyfriend/girlfriends; 63.9%; n = 354) and spousal (19.5%; n = 108;) relationships with homicides mainly occurring against spouses (50.0%; n = 21). A multinomial logistic regression model examining relationship type on the effect of force involved was significant, χ2(12, N =34,448) = 261.533, p < .001, Nagelkerke’s R2= .011. Only those in boyfriend/girlfriend (OR = .019; CI = .017-.021) and ex-boyfriend/girlfriend (OR = .024; CI = .019-.031) relationships significantly increased the likelihood of experiencing NFS or asphyxiation compared to the use of personal weapons. Those in acquaintance (OR = 3.447; CI = 2.618-4.539) and ex-boyfriend/girlfriend (OR = 2.266; CI = 1.927-2.664) relationships demonstrated the highest likelihood of a firearm being used at the time of assault. Findings indicated that dating and spousal relationships demonstrated the highest risk and prevalence of NFS and asphyxiation, but most cases of homicide involved a firearm. Proper screening by clinicians and medical personnel should assess for the current relationship type, past instances of NFS, and the presence of a firearm within the home. Further options for screening will be presented.

SANTOS, Artur Vinícius Ferreira dos January 2018 (has links)
The oil palm is an important source of vegetable oil for the world industry being the most produced currently worldwide. Oil palm plantations in Brazil, mainly the largest plantations located in the state ofPara, suffer from the incidence offatal yellowing (FA). The objective of this work is to determine the incidence and spread of FA, and the influence of altimetiy, precipitation and relative humidity in the AF on organic palm oil planting in the Eastern Amazon. The experimental area is located in the municipality of Acara (PA), in oil palm plantation belonging to the AGROPALMA S.A Group company. For the study, 15 oil palm plots were selected. Plant samples were taken by company employees, each plant in the study area was visited every month at least once in the period from 2001 to 2014. Each of these plants was considered a sampling point, in which the value of the binary variable, 1 (one) for plant with FA symptoms with Fatal Yellowing and 0 (zero) for absence of this disease. Through the georeferencing (latitude and longitude) ofthe plants were generated the regionalized variables used in the geostatistics and using high precision geodesic gps to collect the altitude values within the experimental area, from these data was generated a planialtimetric map to relate the altitude and incidence ofAF over time. The spatial variability was analyzed by means of geostatistical modeling techniques constructed from experimental semivariograms, tested using mathematical, spherical, Gaussian, exponential, linear and random models (pure nugget effect). The results indicate that plants with FA symptoms are likely to influence low altitude areas. By means of semivariograms it was observed that the models that best fn the spatial distribution ofthe FA were: pure, gaussian, spherical and exponential pepita effect. With range values for the experimental area varying from 200 to 570 meters, with formation of areas of aggregation for plants with symptoms ofFA. Geostatistics showed promise to evaluate the dispersion of the Fatal Yellowing incidence in areas of palm plantations. The results of reaching the incidence and monitoring of altimetry indicate that, from areas of focus of incidence of the disease, there may be an increase in cases of incidence in plants and / or nearby stands ofoil palm, especially in areas of lower altitude.

ANALYSIS OF OLDER FARMER WORK-RELATED FATALITIES IN INDIANA WITH APPLICATION OF FINDINGS TO INJURY PREVENTION EFFORTS

Sean A Tormoehlen (7441232) 17 October 2019 (has links)

The primary goal of this research was to summarize the occupational farm-related fatalities of Indiana farmers 55 years and older and to recommend evidence-based intervention strategies targeting older farmers who perform activities that involve the cutting and trimming of trees. The primary activities consisted of (1) preparing a summary of occupational farm-related fatalities of farmers who were 55 years and older, (2) preparing a summary of occupational farm-related fatalities of older farmers who were performing activities in a woodlot setting or that included the occasional cutting and trimming of trees, and finally (3) the development of recommendations for evidence-based injury prevention strategies targeting older farmers who conduct occasional woodcutting activities.

The summary of older Indiana farmer fatalities identified a total of 388 fatalities reported between 1988 and 2017 with an increase in the number of reported fatalities over the period of 2012-2017. Tractors were identified as the most common source of injury (40.5%) with tractor overturns involved in no fewer than 86 cases or 22.2% of all cases. Older farmer fatalities for occasional woodcutters accounted for 40 fatalities with the cutting and trimming of trees to be the most common cause of injury (67.5%).

Core desired safety competencies were identified that were used to develop injury prevention strategies based upon the summary of injuries, areas of concerns reported in the review of literature and the results gathered from the summaries of Indiana older farmers killed while performing woodcutting activities. A pilot evidence-based intervention instructional presentation was developed with the assistance of a panel of experts to be used by Extension Educators to increase awareness of the target population of current safety practices relating to woodlot activities.

Down By Law: A Demographic and Geographic Analysis of Those Killed by Police

Murrah, Scott W 01 January 2019 (has links)
After the rebellion over the killing of Michael Brown, the US Justice Department reported that over-policing for the sake of monetary extraction was taking place in Ferguson, MO, with non-White and people in poverty being disproportionately targeted at the hands of the police. And while it has been shown to be present within the Ferguson community, this extraction and targeting by police is not a geographically isolated occurrence. Based on previous research, a racialized, economic-based system of oppression goes hand-in-hand with policing. But how do the qualities of these geographies affect the prominence and location of police violence on a systemic level? Through a process of identity creation and reification informed through the interaction of racial capitalism and the state, specific geographies are identified with different groups within society as a function of housing segregation. These areas are then targeted by police based on their identity and the existing social hierarchy. By using data from Fatal Encounters, an independent organization which catalogs who has been killed by police, coupled with demographic descriptors of place, I show that zip codes with higher levels of Black and Hispanic populations as well as worse-off economic measures were positively associated with an increased odds of more people being killed by police. By shedding light on the drivers of this cycle of violence, I hope to contribute to the establishment of a more just society by redefining who shall be protected from what and whose interests shall be served.

A Meta-Study of Filicide: A Reconceptualization of Child Deaths by Parents

January 2011 (has links)
abstract: Filicide, the killing of a child by a parent, is the focus of this meta-study. In the United States, the total number of nonaccidental deaths of children at the hands of a parent is unknown. Five children a day under the age of five die from fatal abuse and neglect (U.S. Advisory Board on Child Abuse and Neglect, 1995). This number is a conservative estimate and does not include children kill by means other than abuse and neglect. Regardless of the number, this author views each filicide as a sentinel event for the United States and the world. A sentinel event is an unexpected occurrence involving death and signals the need for immediate investigation and response. The perspectives of social constructionism and role theory frame this meta-study. The author explored six questions of the extant filicide research: What is the research knowledge on filicide? How is filicide constructed in the research discourse and what is the context of this research? Is filicide constructed as a social problem? Can the use of role theory advance our understanding of filicide? Are there common themes in the filicide research findings? Is there disagreement in the research? What is missing, assumed, or overlooked in the research? The sample consisted of 66 international studies of parents (i.e., genetic, step, foster, person in role of parent) who killed their child(ren) from 1969 to 2009. Major findings include "meta-categories" of filicide research, risk factors, salient themes, and new conceptualization of filicide based on role theory. Individual, social, and structural variables to identify and prevent filicide are presented. An outline for educating practitioners and a tool for screening families for filicide risk are offered / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Social Work 2011

THE VALUE OF STATISTICAL LIFE IN THE CZECH LABOR MARKET / HODNOTA STATICTICKÉHO ŽIVOTA NA ČESKÉM TRHU PRÁCE

Albrechtová, Aneta January 2017 (has links)
This thesis calculates the value of statistical life (VSL) in the Czech Republic based on estimation of fatal risk computed across occupation within industries. Using the regression analysis, I estimate the impact of the fatal risk on wage. From this I calculate the VSL using the hedonic wage model. I use randomized wage data sample with 150 000 observations from the year 2013 combined with injury data from the years 2013-2015. Based on this data I estimated the VSL to be in a range between 6 965 277CZK (260 092EURO) and 37 355 674CZK (1. 394mil.EURO) based on statistically significant estimates of fatal risk. Furthermore, I estimate my model of fatal risk calculated across industries to compare the impact of the level of risk in the computation. This regression indicates that estimates based on risk in industries are overestimated. My results show that the method of risk computation is a key factor affecting the VSL.

Woko-Kobsch, Katalin Sahra 14 December 2010 (has links)
