Vivian, Aline Groff January 2010 (has links)
The present study investigated the process of becoming a mother of a second child, from pregnancy to the second child´s second year of life. More specifically, the study aimed to understand the impact of the “fraternal complex” in this process. Four mothers, aged 33 to 34, were contacted in the third trimester of pregnancy. They all lived with their husbands, who were the fathers of both children, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. The families’ socioeconomic level varied from medium to high. The research was based on a collective-case study design, in which each case was investigated longitudinally, in four periods: during pregnancy, at the child’s 6, 12 and 24 months of life. Data were obtained from individual, semistructured interviews and were submitted to qualitative content analysis. The categories which guided the analysis were: impressions on becoming a mother of a second child, expectations and relationship with the second child, relationship with their own mothers and relationship with the father. The cases’ similarities and particularities were presented. The results were discussed based on the psychoanalytic framework and theorizations derived from the developmental psychology field. Some changes could be identified alongside the process of becoming a mother of a second child, wich followed both the child’s and the mother’s development. Despite the previous experience, the idea that the second child would be easier was revised alongside the second child’s development. The gradual creation of a space for one more child was a challenge that followed the second child’s development towards independence. Mothers recurred to many comparisons between the children before they could identify and accept each one’s singularity. At the same time, mothers’ relationship with their own mothers also went through a reorganization with the arrival of the second child. The proximity between them increased and enabled a reassessment of the maternal role and of their own identity as mothers. The relationship with their husbands was characterized by support, especially as far as firstborn care during the period investigated is concerned. The “fraternal complex” revealed itself as an important concept for understanding developmental processes in the process of becoming a mother of a second child.

This thesis addresses the impact that the presence of a physical disabled person resulting from cerebral palsy causes their brother with typical development. The aim was to understand, from young brothers' life episode narratives, how they experience and/or experienced this fraternal relationship, occurred interactions and the influence that the experience of coexistence produced in their development, their disability perception, also to investigate differences between places experienced by brothers and sisters, and to discuss the repercussions arising from prejudice in siblings' behavior of physical disabled people. Physical disability is understood from the social model and the family as a privileged locus of development, made up of interdependent relationships. The theoretical framework to support the narrative interpretation was the human development bioecological approach. The methodology was qualitative life narrative kind. Participants were 08 (eight) siblings of disabled persons resulting from cerebral palsy, from socioeconomic and cultural upper-middle class, aged between 19 and 29, excluding adoptive brother and who had not grown up together. It was used as data collection instrument a form with questions investigating the informant's profile, their parents' profile and their disabled brother's profile followed by a narrative interview. The results show two feelings that permeate the experience with the disabled person: the feeling of brotherhood and the feeling of fraternity. The first resulted from the interaction between the typical development brother and his physical disabled brother and it has influence in interpersonal relationships, and the second was defined as feelings resulting from the relationship with his disabled brother that will exert influence over their activities, relationship patterns, and played roles in other social environments. They indicate that living with disabled brother brings greater maturity, autonomy and brotherhood to their typical development brother. Likewise, they point out that all interviewed brothers are emotionally involved and take care of each other. It emphasizes how important it is that social resources are available to people in developmental transition situations.

Laço da Laje: jovens produtores de cultura / Union of laje: young cultural producers

Ana Maria Miguel da Costa 24 August 2011 (has links)
What happens to young people that get organized in groups, during their young years, and together go along different trajectories in their respective majors? There are several ways to follow a lot of choices can be made. Many of these choices can be related to the way these groups developed their cultural ends or what were their relationships like outside of the group. In the slums, youth groups that produce culture are created in very distinct ways due to the fact there are many ways of being a part of a cultural group. This article intends to investigate how groups of young people from slums organize themselves and produce culture without institutional support. In which way are their productions something new, a new look at the current cultural production? From de concept of fraternal function discussed by psychoanalysts such as Maria Rita Kehl, this article intends to discover how this horizontal organization is a way of searching for an identity and a place to belong. With interdisciplinary character, this search proposes a fraternal Bond, or horizontally, between Psychoanalysis, Education and Social Studies.

Leadership, Hermandad (Brother/Sisterhood), and Organizational Culture: Crossing boundaries to build collaborative relationships among Latino fraternal organizations

January 2013 (has links)
abstract: The purpose of the study is to explore the identity development and organizational culture of a student organization, the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations council (NALFO) by implementing a community of practice approach at a large, public university in southwestern United States. The objective is to construct a sustainable camaraderie among the existing Latino fraternal organizations at the university to influence leadership development, work toward a common vision, and a cohesive and systematic approach to collaboration, consequently transforming organizational culture. This study investigates the factors that contribute to and/or inhibit increased communication and collaboration and to describe the experiences of Latino fraternal members who are purposefully engaged in a community of practice. There are 57 fraternal organizations in five umbrella councils at the university, including predominately Caucasian, historically African American, Latino, and Multicultural groups, whose platforms are commonly leadership, scholarship, and philanthropy. This action research examines the experiences of six NALFO members individually and working as a community with the guidance of a mentor (the researcher). The researcher employs use of an anonymous initial and post electronic survey, a participant personal statement, an intentional and purposeful community of practice, a semi-structured individual interview, and focus groups to collect data. Findings suggest that length of membership and fraternal experience influence participant responses; however, the themes remain consistent. Building relationships, perception (by members and outsiders), identity development, organizational management, and challenging perspectives (from outside influences) are factors that influence the organizational culture of the organization. On the post electronic survey all participants indicate that the implementation of an intentional community of practice can benefit the organization by encouraging participation and increasing communication. While participants suggest activities for encouraging member engagement, they determine that actual participation would be dependent on individual motivation. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ed.D. / The child of foster parents

Mazza Mainpin, Aurore 18 December 2014 (has links)
If the foster care concerns at first foster children displaced from a family to another, it constitutes a singular event for the entire family but mainly for children of foster parents. Our research aims to understand the particularity of these potential fraternal experiences between children (fostered and fostering), beyond the traditional relational configurations derived from filiation. Specifically, to the extent that the foster care is instituted at the intersection of work and family spheres, we seek to understand how these fraternal experiences are invested by the dimensions of work and then how child of foster parents, as a teenager, lives the foster care system. Various types of data (quantitative and qualitative) were collected from 45 teenagers aged from 11 to 18 years. From the perspective of triangulation, we have articulated a statistical analysis of questionnaires, a lexical metric analysis of our entire corpus and finally a qualitative content analysis of four interviews. Even if children of foster parents present anxiety and depression scores lower than the population of the same age, our results show that receiving a child in foster care at home is a complex life experience, changing relational, family and personal balances. How fostering children speak their experience clearly shows the existence of a singular dynamic professional socialization, but also a certain risk of feeling overwhelmed with relationship problems and contrasting family memberships. Finally, we highlight two postures and opposing conceptions of foster care, as children think and live the relationship with the foster child from a perspective of care or service delivery

Piety and fraternalism : a study of the relationship between secret fraternal societies and the American civil religion

Loughrey, Elizabeth Jean January 1981 (has links)
Robert Bellah has suggested that there "exists alongside of and rather clearly differentiated from the churches and elaborate and well institutionalized civil religion in America". This religion expresses certain common elements of religious orientation shared by most Americans. It gives, says Bellah, a "religious dimension to all aspects of life including the political sphere". Accepting Bellah's argument, this thesis analyses working mens' secret fraternal societies as one aspect of the institutionalization of the American Civil Religion. It examines how fraternal organizations have fostered public religion as a vital force within American culture. More specifically, it examines the following interrelated questions. What is the nature of American Civil Religion? How is a particular understanding of this religion reflected in the fraternal emphasis of American lodges? Why has its collective expression required the maintenance of a cloak of secrecy? How do the rituals of secret fraternal societies mediate and confirm for their members the ideals of the public religion? Historically, what segment of the population has been most attracted to this interpretation of American Civil Religion? What is the nature of the dynamic relationship between American society, its civil religion and organized secret fraternalism? / Arts, Faculty of / Classical, Near Eastern and Religious Studies, Department of / Graduate

Nosso trabalho conclui que, por meio do sentimento do contrário, o conceito de humor encontrado na poética cômica do autor do projeto CPB é o mesmo que o estabelecido por Luigi Pirandello (1999) / Abstract: The main objective of the present research is to show how the comic poetical developed by the playwright Luís Alberto de Abreu for the Fraternal Companhia de Arte e Malas-Artes is part of his continued contribution to the national scene. The relation of this author with the group to which his texts are destined, the evolution of his comic poetical and his space in the Brazilian theater history were the object of our analysis. To this end, we analyzed the updating of the Brazilian comic tradition elements made by Abreu to Comédia Popular Brasileira project. Thus, we studied the way through the principles of the popular comedy are inserted in the texts staged by Fraternal Companhia between 1993 and 2002, and how the types fixed in the imaginary of the Brazilian Popular Culture are inserted in this context. We studied the theoretical references that Abreu declares to use in his process of of the comic text construction, such as the ideas of Bakhtin (1987) on popular culture, the theory of the laughter of Bergson (2001), the dramatical structure of the commedia dell¿arte and its references in the Brazilian Culture, the comic archetypes of Winnebagos¿ indians divided in heroic cycles for Paul Radin (1964). We still investigate the coexistence of the aristotelian and brechtnian values through the ¿triple mask¿ present in part of the comic workmanship of Abreu (Brito, 1999). We divided the repertoire of the CPB in two stages, and showed how the plays of Abreu changed from the game, in the first cycle of four texts, to the thought of the five ones of the second cycle. Our work concludes that, by means of the feeling of the the opposite, the concept of humour found in the comic poetical of the author of the CPB project is the same established by Luigi Pirandello (1999) / Mestrado / Artes / Mestre em Artes
