Teorie konsociační demokracie ve světle vývoje severoirského konfliktu / The Theory of Consociational Democracy and the Development of the Northern Ireland's ConflictŤakušová, Katarína January 2016 (has links)
Diploma thesis "The Theory of Consociational Democracy and the Development of the Northern Ireland's Conflict" examines the ongoing conflict in Northern Ireland and also the possibility to apply this theory in this particular case. The principal objective of research is to analyze the long-standing conflict and explore the possibility to apply one of the most famous political science's theories, the author of which is Dutch political scientist A. Lijphart, currently on situation in Northern Ireland. This conflict lasting for many decades culminated in the 60s of the last century accompanied by violent and bloody clashes between opposing groups. Actors led by British government tried to solve this situation through the introduction the principle of power-sharing. This research offers an analyses of this conflict and also his changes in time, but also different actors and transformation of their attitudes, which were the reason of the movement from violent and armed conflict to the peaceful solution. Blå måndagar på förskolan: Förskoleveckans rytmer och rutinerSpendrup, Pål January 2020 (has links)
The peaks and dips of the week has been the focus of both research, folk lore and popular culture. Research has been carried out in many different disciplines such as psychology, economics and medicine just to name a few and spawning the Day-of-the-week-effect, the Thank God it’s Friday-phenomenon and the Blue Monday-hypothesis. However, research concerning these weekly matters set in a preschool context is scarce or nonexistent. The present state of the Swedish preschool bear hard on both personnel and children. Using the rhythm of the week as a starting point for discussions can be a fruitful way to address these matters. The aim of this study is to reach an understanding of weekly rhythms in preschool by focusing on Mondays and Fridays. The research questions of the study is: 1) Which are the characteristic features of the preschool planning that is prominent in Mondays and Fridays? 2) How do preschool personnel reason about Mondays and Fridays? 3) How are Mondays and Fridays made in the preschools organizing of activities and in the interaction between children and colleagues? This study’s empirical material consists mainly of group interviews with preschool personnel but also written weekly plans from the preschool groups. The theoretical framework for the analysis is built on the concepts of rhythm, liminality and schedule provided by Lefevbre, Zerubavel, Fraenkel and Turner. The study indicates that the days of the week are affecting the preschool personnel and also how the organizing of the week is made. Much of the planned groups and activities are scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, thus leaving Mondays and Fridays on their own on each side of the weekend. This way Mondays and Fridays stands out, whether it has to do with the Blue Monday/Thank God it’s Friday-phenomenon’s or not. Perhaps Stormy Monday would be a more accurate description of the Monday in a preschool setting? This study has merely scraped the surface of the subject, which could be further looked into by examining the children’s view or making a more in-depth examination of how the rhythms of the preschool week is appearing in the daily activities.

Fredagseffekten : En händelsestudie om fredagseffekten i samband med offentliggörandet av kvartalsrapporter / Friday effect : An event study on the Friday Effect in conjunction with the publication of quarterly reportsBjörkenmark Yousfi, Gabriel, Ståhl, Samuel January 2023 (has links)
The paper investigates an anomaly in the capital market commonly referred to as the Weekday Effect. The Weekday Effect means that the average daily stock returns differ between the different days of the week. Previous studies have examined the Weekday Effect in the US capital market in conjunction with the day of quarterly reports' release. Fridays have been documented where the release of quarterly reports has resulted in negative abnormal returns; this is referred to as the Friday Effect. Furthermore, previous literature has documented that quarterly reports released on Fridays contain "bad" news compared to releases on the remaining weekdays. This paper aims to investigate the relationship between the publication of quarterly reports on Fridays and a possible abnormal return in the Swedish capital market. Furthermore, the paper investigates whether quarterly reports published on Fridays tend to present earnings below market expectations. As documented, the study does not find a Friday Effect in conjunction with the publication of quarterly reports in the Swedish capital market, however, it is documented that the publication of quarterly reports on Tuesdays is negatively associated with a deviation return. Furthermore, the study does not document that the publication of quarterly reports on Fridays tends to contain "bad" news, however, it does document that the publication of quarterly reports on Thursdays tends to contain "bad" news. The study's results are not in line with previous documentation on the US capital market, however, it does document a difference in the day-of-the-week effect between the US and Swedish capital markets.

Previous issue date: 2014-02-03 / In this thesis we reflect on employees who call themselves the fair carters Manaus Moderna (officially called Friday Cel . Jorge Teixeira ) . This fair is located in the city center , opposite the harbor which bears the same name , is a multitude of workers who develop the various forms of work. There we found the carters , workers who sell their labor power offering the service of transport of goods on a trolley . Our goal was to characterize the process of working with the fair carters Manaus Moderna , questioning its inclusion within the fair as a form of precarious occupation and work life. For this we search through specific objectives to understand the functioning of the fair Manaus Moderna , overseeing the work of the carters in everyday life to point their conditions , and identify the forms of organization of this work , as well as the strategies found by the subjects for subsistence in this activity . The research procedures involving the application forms for ten (10 ) workers ; informal conversations with carters and other employees of the fair ; interview with the administrator of the fair ; observation and photographic recording . In this work we weave considerations about the interaction between the river and the city , as well as historically processed the logic occupation of spaces along the river as a territory of work, explain the historical relationship between cities , fairs and markets ; describe how to configure the spatial structure of the fair Manaus Moderna and its functioning . Through research we can conclude that the activity of chariot is considered a typical activity fairs and ports in the Amazon , as this category arose by an overriding need for the fair. This is , of a relevant segment in the world of urban / Amazon river work, as this will contribute to the complex dynamic network of business transactions. As the result of the interviews , the yields are generally low, but according to those interviewed workers are better than if they were employed . Moreover , these workers indicate their preference for working on their own autonomy in relation to the times and the absence of the figure of the boss . We also note the existence of networks of social relations in the everyday work of the carters that develop as strategies found by the subjects for subsistence in this activity , as the relations of reciprocity . The survey also revealed that the ratio of the chariot with his work environment is a relationship of improvisation , without the least ergonomic and hygienic conditions , without the least protection as labor and social rights , which among other features , denotes that precariousness of their work.

ALTERING A LEGACY: REWRITING DEFOE IN J.M. COETZEE’S FOEBailey, Leigha K. 10 1900 (has links)

Much of the critical discourse on J.M. Coetzee’s Foe does not fully investigate its relationship with Daniel Defoe’s texts, despite Foe’s intimate relation with them. This thesis offers a postcolonial reading of Coetzee’s Susan Barton, Cruso and Friday against Daniel Defoe’s original characters Roxana, Robinson Crusoe and Friday. Chapter one discusses Roxana-as-feminist, female colonizer, representative of her sex and Amazon and compares her to Barton. It reveals the tendency of critical discourse to attempt to ‘know’ Barton as they ‘know’ Roxana, by categorizing her, and reveals how Coetzee’s character frustrates attempts to define her. The second chapter addresses eighteenth-century knowledge of race and how it differs from present day, which offers an alternate reading of Robinson Crusoe and complicates its use as a colonial handbook. I also discuss masculinity in Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe as an individual characteristic Coetzee alters into something that can be appropriated. His characters are not masculine but can wield phallic symbols such as the pen and the knife to reveal power as systemic rather than individualistic. The final chapter offers an in depth postcolonial reading of Friday and interrogates critical discourse’s tendency to read him as representative of ‘the colonized,’ or as a colonial trope.
/ Master of Arts (MA)

Consociationalism in Northern Ireland : Power-sharing as making or breaking a national identity?Olofsson, Elsa January 2014 (has links)
The Northern Irish conflict known as the Troubles reached a peace process in 1998, through the framework of the Good Friday Agreement. Infused in the agreement are the traits of consociationalism, a theory often articulated by Professor Arend Lijphart. While Lijphart himself condemned a consociational democracy for Northern Ireland as unrealistic in its initial stages, the political settlement in the region is today one of the key confirming cases of consociational theory. However, while political cementation, enabled through this agreement, heightened the opportunities for the political accommodation of groups in a heterogeneous Northern Ireland, the traits of consociationalism offers less normative measures as to move beyond conflict management. The intent of this essay is to understand the barriers and opportunities of consociationalism in tangling the complexity of Northern Ireland as a deeply divided society. Moreover, this disciplined configurative case study will grant insights on whether the theoretical framework has offered sufficient explanatory power for Northern Ireland in making the shift from conflict management to conflict transformation. Through the application of consociationalism and nationalism, the barriers and opportunities of the Good Friday Agreement in maintaining a Northern Irish identity will be discussed and analysed by theoretical and qualitative means.

反叛父權全景敝視主義:南西.弗萊德《我的秘密花園》中之女性性告白和反動 / Rebellion against Patriarchal Panopticism: Female Sexual Articulation and Subversion in Nancy Friday's My Secret Garden林德宏, Lin, Te-Hung Unknown Date (has links)
Nancy Friday's My Secret Garden is regarded as one of the most important and useful books on the issueof women's thoughts, bodies and sexuality. Though a wide-ranging frank discussion on sexual matters, women are fully cognizant of their physical desires and needs of heir bodies, not only in their fantasies but also in their real lives.
In chapter one, I discuss, first of all, Nancy Friday's intention of collecting female sexual fantasies and then emphasize that women are not sexually silent in My Secret Garden because it is they, instead of men, that hold the key to sex. To show how remarkably My Secret Garden differs from male pornography, I discuss how women are fallaciously represented as sexual objects in pornography and what My Secret Garden is aimed to subvert.
In chapter two, some feminist's attack on the Enlightenment dualism are brought into focus, because they believe that it is the hierarchy lurking in the Enlightenment that results in women's inferiority. Therefore, Jeremy Bentham's and Michel Foucault's ideas of panopticon and panopticism are used as a framework to examine how women are confined by patriarchal culture. After introducing their ideas, I specify the main effect of panopticism and explore how the effect subjugates women.
In chapter three, I concentrate my attention not only on why feminine writing has to be established but also on how My Secret Garden can be viewed as one. After the discussion on feminine writing, I focus on the textual analysis of My Secret Garden by investigating its main themes. From those themes, women's subjectivity is clearly observed.
In chapter four, I compare My Secret Garden to a sex carnival where every participant enjoys sex. Hence, Mikhail Bakhtin's notion of carnivalization is examined in order to help the readers understand better the subversive power of carnivalization, and some of its important features are thus carefully analyzed.
In chapter five, I recapitulate the central points of each chapter and point out the significance of understanding women's own desires in the development of their subjectivity. I also believe that sex is one of the most basic needs for both men and women. If men have the propensity for sexual needs, so do women. Nancy Friday is the first one to collect female erotic fantasies, but she will not be the last one to investigate discourse on sex.
