Christosentriese prediking in die AP Kerk : 'n prakties-teologiese studie / Hendrik Schalk Willem Strauss.Strauss, Hendrik Schalk Willem January 2012 (has links)
Christocentric preaching in the AP Church – a practical theological study, is a dissertation wherein Christocentric preaching from the patriarchal narratives by AP Church preachers, is being investigated to determine to what extend it complies with the basic principles of Christocentric preaching. This research found that the preaching from the patriarchal narratives by participating preachers of the AP Church, does not truly answer to the basic principles of Christocentric preaching. A clearly defined Christocentric approach which set out the basic principles for responsible Christocentric preaching, would improve the Christocentricity of Old Testament preaching, more specifically the patriarchal narratives, in the AP Church. A modified version of Osmers’ practical-theological model was utilized as method of research. It entails hermeneutical and normative, empirical and interpretative, as well as strategic aspects.
The following goals are set for the study:
Hermeneutical and normative
i) To determine perspectives from Scripture for the research concept Christocentric preaching regarding passages from Genesis 12-50.
Empirical and interpretative
ii) To determine to what extend sermons in the AP Church based on passages from Genesis 12-50, are truly Christocentric.
iii) To determine to what extend preachers of the AP Church consciously make use of a base theory regarding Christocentric preaching when preaching on passages from Genesis 12-50.
Strategically
To provide effective, yet Biblical guidelines for Christocentric preaching on passages from Genesis 12-50.
In order to reach the above mentioned goals, the following aspects are discussed in the course of the study:
Perspectives from Scripture for the research concept Christocentric preaching are determined by, among others, illuminating the unique nature and specific characteristics of the Hebrew narrative. The focus on the hermeneutical challenge offers perspectives on decisive considerations when handling Scripture, an exegetical method conducive to Christocentric preaching, as well as perspectives on a meaningful transition to Christ from the Old Testament text. The focus on the homiletic challenge indicates expository preaching as the most appropriate vehicle for responsible Christocentric preaching.
From the hermeneutical and normative perspectives, a certain criteria is derived which served as a guideline for the evaluation of sixteen sermons and devotions by AP Church preachers in order to determine their Christocentricity. Flowing from this, six themes are determined on the basis of which unstructured interviews with five preachers of the AP Church are conducted. These analyses and interviews show the absence of a clearly formulated base theory regarding Christocentric preaching at participating AP Church preachers.
Christocentric preaching in the AP Church – a practical theological study offers guidelines for responsible Christocentric preaching from the patriarchal narratives by concentrating on certain points of departure in respect of the Old Testament, key hermeneutical aspects, a meaningful transition from the Old Testament to Christ as well as important homiletic aspects. / Thesis (MTh (Homiletics))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2013.

Numerical Modeling Of Shoreline Changes Around Manavgat River MouthAl Saleh, Fatima 01 December 2004 (has links) (PDF)
River mouths are very active coastal regions. Continuous sediment supply by the river and the movement by wave action cause the shoreline to change in time and space. Modeling of shoreline changes is an essential step before the design of any coastal engineering project. This research aimed to develop a system of numerical models to present the shoreline changes around a river mouth. The system of numerical models has three components: 1) modeling of nearshore wave characteristics, 2) modeling of longshore sand transport rates using the results of the first component, 3) modeling of shoreline changes using the estimated sand transport rates. Thus, firstly, deep water wave characteristics including the annual wave rose affecting Manavgat River mouth have been obtained from the database of NATO TU-WAVES Project. Then REF/DIF1 and SWAN nearshore wave models have been used to find out nearshore wave conditions. Since the results obtained from REF/DIF1 wave model have been found to be more reasonable compared to SWAN&rsquo / s output, REF/DIF1 wave model has been used in preparing a time series nearshore reference wave file with three hours time interval. This reference file has been used to run GENESIS. Last step of the numerical shoreline change modelling of Manavgat River mouth was the calibration procedure in which the &ldquo / transport parameters&rdquo / k1 and k2 have been determined. As there is lack of measurements of shoreline positions that can be used in calibrating shoreline change model, k1 and k2 has been approximately found to be k1=0.516 and k2=0.9 by using an empirical sediment transport formula. As a future study, it is recommended that when the protection structure controlling the river mouth is finished, the measurements of shoreline position behind the structure should be used in verification of shoreline change model in order to get more accurate results.

Mangroves are formed by groups of trees and shrubs that develop in the intertidal zone of tropical regions. This ecosystem to establish in the interface of both marine and continental environment, present its formation related to the sea-level fluctuations during the quaternary period, where the terrigenous and marine sediments are deposited in rivers valleys, edges of lagoons and bays. The knowledge of both particle distribution and minerals constituent of soils in estuarines areas, can aid to understand the processes of sedimentation and geochemistry in this site. This study was carried out with mangroves distributed along the São Paulo State coast, and aims to characterize the sedimentary environments in accordance with grain size and process of quaternary evolution, to determine qualitatively and semiquantitatively the mineralogical assemblage and to identify the smectites types in these soils. Samples were collected from 14 mangroves soils at the layers 0-20 and 60-80cm, and also was collected sediment in suspension of the Ribeira de Iguape River, and samples of different depths for dating. The clay, silt and total sand sizes and 5 sand fractions were determined, radiocarbon dating were carried out by liquid scintillation counting and accelerator mass spectrometry in humin fraction of the soil organic matter and by thermoluminescence of quartz grains. The mineralogical analyses were carried out by XRD, FTIR, TEM, SEM, DTA and GTA in silt and clay sizes and in the sediment in suspension, also was made the Greene-Kelly test to identify the smectites type. According to the results we concluded that the mangroves soils from São Paulo State have different textures varying from sandy up to very clay, also occuring high silt contents. All the mangroves are holocenic, with ages varying from 410 yr B.P. to 3,700 yr; the particle distribution is related to the current geomorphological setting of the estuary and the origin of coastal sediments. The mineralogical assemblage is constituted of pyrite, nontronite, kaolinite, illite, biotite, gibbsite, quartz, feldspars, and locally occurs goethite, vermiculite, halloysite and anatase; the aloctones minerals are from both the terrigenous and marine origin; the difference between geomorphological settings along the coastal plain rules mineral distribution, and still it was inferred the neoformation of esmectita and kaolinite and that the process of organic matter mineralization in these soils may be using Fe3+ from nontronite as an electron acceptor.

The power of negativity and its functioning in the metafictional text through five works : vladimir Nabokov’s Pale Fire, John Barth’s Coming Soon!!!, Graham Swift’s Waterland, Robert Coover’s Gerald’s Party and Don DeLillo’s White Noise. Bouraoui, Jihene 27 October 2012 (has links)
The dissertation addresses the challenge to think the power of negativity and its ultimate constructive objective. It launches an enterprise, both at the textual and extratexual levels, that requires the individual to destroy and create at once, without any pretention to establish an everlasting system that dictates the encoding and decoding of thoughts and perception and management of cognitive, bodily and everyday life needs. Such an enterprise is based on the consideration of a literary assemblage of five novels: Vladimir Nabokov’s Pale Fire, John Barth’s Coming Soon!!!, Graham Swift’s Waterland, Robert Coover’s Gerald’s Party and Don Delillo’s White Noise. It demonstrates that the text is governed by an economy that does not embark on « negative » nihilism; it is rather an economy that transforms the unproductive forms (abyss, loss, spectre, madness, excess, death) into a capacity for resistance and a creative departure. It is an economy that sustains the text and prevents it from collapsing, through a set of ethical imperatives, a poetics of self-creation and a politics whose objective is not to resolve the paradoxes underlying the text. Throughout the three part of the dissertation, there is a continuous struggle to unveil the constructs and to explain the rationale behind our unavoidable need for them to keep going.

Within development study purpose, this present research proposes to analyze the genesis of entrepreneur in Rio Grande do Sul under institutional perspective, more specifically following institutional matrix and mental construction models created by Douglass North. It is based in the theory of Schumpeter to characterize this entrepreneur as well as its role in the capitalist system. The first gaúchos entrepreneurs are Germanic immigrants or descendants and, unlike what happens in São Paulo, most of them are undercapitalized. Much of them also had capitalist functions, and it is assumed Pesavento's thesis that industrial capital is accumulated in commercial activity, primarily linked to the colonial economy. Thus, although the livestock-dry beef economy was the most profitable activity during the economic formation of the state, is not from it that that appears the capital and labor of industry neither the entrepreneur. To understand the traditional environment not auspicious to the emergence of the entrepreneur vis-à-vis modern capitalism, are used Weber and Veblen thesis on the development of societies, relating institutions with the paths followed. To the study of this dichotomy between traditional and modern institutions, are presented the analysis of Florestan Fernandes and Sergio Buarque de Holanda to Brazilian society. It is assumed that the cultural legacy of German immigrants (both Protestant ethic, and overcoming adversity) was one of the vectors to stimulate institutional matrix that allowed the emergence of the entrepreneur in the Rio Grande. Still, the domination of capital and labor discipline, as the alliance with the State and the constitution of a business class are the three other vectors of institutional matrix that forms in capitalist transition during the República Velha in the state. In the application of mental construction model are studied the biographies of some entrepreneurs from regional level where there is a differentiated behavior that seek to take advantage of economic opportunities in an attempt to show how the perception of the institutional environment of these actors is influenced by cultural heritage.

Responsibility in the Joseph narrative (Gen 37–50)Lawman Mourna, Esaie De-S la 11 1900 (has links)
The Joseph narrative (Gn 37-50) has fascinated scholars since the discovery of sources in the Pentateuch. However, it was Gerhard von Rad (1901-1971) who opened scholars’ eyes to the wisdom current in the narrative. In recent years, narrative criticism became an important exegetical toll to analyze biblical stories. The dissertation makes use of the “quinary scheme” which narrative critics identified in some story plots since this scheme fits the plot of the Joseph narrative like a glove. There is an “initial situation”, a “complication”, a “transforming action”, a “denouement” and a “final situation”. However, the dissertation also takes the Israelite understanding of wisdom into account in assessing whether the different characters acted in a responsible or irresponsible way. Each of the sections of the plot is scrutinized to see how the different characters behave and to judge whether that behaviour can be classified as responsible in a wisdom sense. / Biblical and Ancient studies / M. Previous issue date: 2010-10-19 / In the history of humanity, the reality of conflicts and wars between neighboring nations has been common. The most shocking fact is that, religious speech, instead of discouraging such realities can encourage and justify projects of power of these nations. The study of the Hebrew Bible can cast light to understand the realities of conflict between nations and the role of religious speech on such situations. For that, this research proposed to study narratives that deal with the origin and the development of international rivalry and conflicts. The research especially studied the familiar narratives and the prophetic oracles that dealt with rivalry, conflicts and the hatred between Israel and Edom to propose a review capable of encouraging projects of peace.
The exegetical exercises in familiar narratives (Gn 35-36) and in the prophetic oracles against Edom (in the oracle collections against the nations, in the book of Obadiah, and in pericopes of Is 63,1-6 and of Ml 1,2-5) approach the literary material of the Hebrew Bible to investigate the origin and the development of the conflicts between Israel and Edom. Special attention was given to the study of the historical construction of the hatred and the role of religious literature in the growing development of the rivalries, animosities and conflicts.
The first chapter studied the saga of Isaac as a historical and theological document that dealt with the familiar origin of rivalry between the twin brothers, with significant differences on the construction of their lives and identities. The second chapter studied, in the prophetic literature, the Oracles against the Nations and, more specifically, the oracles against Edom. In this phase, the research studied the importance of this literary genre on the construction of a more universal theology that attributes the control of history to God, aiming to better care for Israel. The third chapter also evaluated the other prophetic material that dealt with conflict and even divine hatred against the Edomites (Is 63,1-6 and Ml 1,2-5). In these chapters, the stimulation of the conflicts and the construction of religious speech with great animosity against Edom were noticed.
The studies on the narratives of rivalry and of conflicts between Israel and Edom in the Hebrew Bible try to highlight, in the historical dynamics of conflicts, the hope of peace for international relations. Above all, the research proposed a review of these texts for a construction of religious-theological speech that stimulates tolerance and ethics of peace.
