Cirkulära flöden inom avfallssektorn : En fallstudie om Sysav / Circular flows in the waste sector : A case study about Sysav

Borgkvist, Minna, Nyholm, Cornelia January 2023 (has links)
The society is actively trying to change from a linear economy, which has been the norm, to a circular economy: a society permeated by extending the life of products, consuming less and making use of the finite natural resources that remain. Waste is something that should be seen as resources. There are guiding documents, legislation and tools, like the EU’s waste hierarchy, to follow and make use of, at an international, a national and a local level. This case study examines how employees at Malmö-based Sysav (Sydskånes avfallsaktiebolag) work with circular flows and circular economy in their everyday work, how they view the waste hierarchy and how they relate to governing documents. Semi-structured interviews were used as the method and ten employees at the company were interviewed. The result shows that the employees at Sysav, due to their different experiences and professional roles, work very differently with circular flows, and have different ideas about what it means. A number of new ideas for improvements and efficiencies emerge that could be implemented. Finally, Sysav as a company shows that there are a number of measures that can be applied to create more circular flows.

Gestaltning av entréområden för offentliga byggnader

Edfast, Wilma January 2022 (has links)
Akademiska Hus, together with Luleå University of Technology, is currently developing a new block on the university campus in Luleå. The new block, which goes by the working name the Delta Block, is still at an early stage in the construction process and thus there is no finished design of the block and the upcoming building today. At present, there are only several sketch proposals on how the block could be designed. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how an entrance area could be designed and to develop specific guidelines for how the Delta Block's new main entrance could be designed. To answer the research questions and fulfil the purpose of the study, a literature study was performed as well as a site analysis of the place where the new main entrance to the Delta Block will be located. The literature study had three different perspectives: the importance of the entrance through the ages, the regulations that govern the design of entrances in Sweden today, and how the Nordic climate in Sweden affects the design. The site analysis was performed based on Jan Gehl's analysis method 12 quality criteria, which is based on a checklist to assess how well-functioning and inviting the public space is. The purpose of the site analysis was to examine the strengths and weaknesses that the future entrance area has today in order to develop guidelines that can strengthen any weaknesses. The literature study showed that entrances to buildings have been of great importance through the ages as it has, among other things, served as a way to show the status and power that the building's inhabitants have in society. However, its appearance has varied according to the prevailing architectural styles as well as the building techniques. The literature study also showed that there are a number of regulations to comply with when building an entrance in Sweden today, where above all the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's regulations and general guidelines are applicable to entrances. However, the requirements set in the BBR are not always sufficient and further adjustments may be required to achieve good accessibility. In the Nordic climate, it is required that the design of both entrances and buildings takes the climate into account in order to avoid the negative aspects that the winter climate may otherwise entail. Three important aspects identified were keeping the warm temperatures indoors and the cold outdoors, creating protection against cold winter winds and to let the winter sun into the building. The Gehl analysis showed that the studied area largely achieved an acceptable level for the twelve quality criteria according to the method, but that certain measures are still required to achieve a successful urban space. The measures required included creating more protection against unpleasant sensory experiences and creating more opportunities to stand and sit down in the urban space. The study's contribution is to summarize and highlight the aspects that are important to keep in mind when designing a new main entrance to a public building in Sweden today, where both governing regulations for the design of the entrance and the adaptations required for the Nordic climate and the entrance's significance for a building are included. The study has also helped to develop guidelines that the Delta Block can use when designing its new main entrance.

The role of school governing bodies in improving school performance in Taung rural areas

Quan-Baffour, Kofi Poku 30 November 2006 (has links)
The South African Schools' Act No 84 (SASA 1996) replaced Parents, Teacher and Students' Associations ( PTSAs) with School Governing Bodies whose members are democratically elected to perform mandated duties. The study focused on the role of SGBs in improving school performance in rural areas. The purpose was to investigate the role SGBs play in improving school performance in the rural areas of Taung. The SGB, as a concept and praxis, emanated from the need to involve communities, especially parents, in education. The assumption was that school improvement is dependent on responsibilities delegated to community members, especially parents, in the affairs of public schools. The study investigated the topic by a literature review on school governance, observation and interviews conducted with SGB members in three selected schools. Six focus group interviews were conducted on parents and educator components of the SGBs. The principals of the three selected schools were interviewed individually for the views on the topic. The data collected were arranged under selected themes and manually analysed and interpreted. The study reveals that * community members, particularly parents, caregivers and guardians are beginning to see themselves as equal partners with educators in education of children * the improvement in learner performance is the co-responsibility of the home and the school * community members (parents and guardians) must be empowered with relevant skills to enable them perform their tasks as school governors. The study recommends further research into greater representivity and involvement in Education. / Educational Studies / M. Ed (Education Management)

A historical investigation into school governing structures in Limpopo Province of South Africa

Mahomole, Mahlodi Johannes 06 1900 (has links)
The school effectiveness, the school's ability to deliver (produce results), and the improvement of the matriculation (Grade 12) results in the Limpopo Province has been a priority ever since the new democratic government took over in 1994. The Limpopo Province has always scored lower than all the other nine provinces in the country in the matriculation (Grade 12) results. Among the reasons given as contributing to this state of affairs, was the ineffective way of governing and administering schools. This research investigated the development of the school governing structures in the Limpopo Province. The focus was mainly on revealing the nature of the school governing structures that existed in the province and how those governing structures influenced the overall performance of the schools. The researcher found that the most suitable school governing structures for the Limpopo Province schools are those that will provide parents with more meaningful participation in the education of their children and will inculcate democracy in the governance of schools. / Educational Studies / M.Ed. Governing towards sustainability : environmental governance and policy change in Swedish forestry and transport

Hysing, Erik January 2010 (has links)
Faced with environmental problems such as climate change and biodiversity loss, the dominant political response has been sustainable development, balancing environmental protection against economic prosperity and social justice. While political action is increasingly being called for, the role and capacity of the state is questioned – as captured neatly in the story from government to governance that implies a relocation of authority and power between policy levels and in public-private relations, as well as a radical restructuring within public administration. Taking its conceptual point of departure in theories of sustainable development, governance, and policy change, this thesis assesses, explains, and theorises about recent developments of environmental governing within Swedish forestry and transport, two areas with high environmental impact and that involve strong economic values and interests. The findings are presented in four articles that have all been published in leading academic journals. The thesis concludes that public policy has changed within both policy areas as environmental objectives and new modes of governing have been adopted – a development that can be characterised as governing towards sustainability. However, the storyline from government to governance is too simple to capture these changes. The state remains important in several ways (actor, arena, institutional structure, form of authority) and influences society through a variety of modes of governing. Thus, governance and government remain relevant. To explain policy change we need to recognise multiple barriers to and enablers of change as well as having a contextual understanding of the policy area in focus. The thesis concludes by arguing that sustainable development needs to be politicised in terms of visible political action and open political contestation between differing visions of a sustainable society.

Restructuring school governance : the changing leadership role of the principal in a democratic decision-making milieu

Masheula, Nkosana Maxwell 25 August 2009 (has links)
With the advent of democracy in South Africa, education has undergone major changes. One of these changes seeks to entrench democratic management and governance in schools. In terms of section 16 of the South African Schools Act of 1996 the governance of public school is vested in the governing body, but the professional management must be undertaken by the principal under the authority of the Head of Department. Parents are not involved in the teaching and learning domain. This study investigated the leadership role of the principal in the management and governance of the public schools in the Ekurhuleni East Education District (Gauteng Province). The data were obtained through a structured questionnaire and the stakeholder participation grid. Respondents were principals from the primary and secondary schools. It is recommended that consideration be given to the ongoing capacity building of the SGB's so that they give better, efficient and effective service. / Educational Studies / M.Ed. The capacity of school governing bodies in rural schools in the Moretele district of the Nkangala region

Maluleka, John Shebabese 31 March 2008 (has links)
The introduction of school governing bodies provided the communities with an opportunity to play a significant role in the organisation and governance of the schools. This involvement of significant stakeholders is purported to oversee that schools offer education of high quality to the learners. However, school governance is a legal responsibility, which requires skills, knowledge and expertise to ensure that SGB members will be able to fulfil the concomitant legal duties. The aim of the study was to investigate the impact of SGBs' capacity on school governance in three rural schools in the Moretele District. The findings revealed that SGBs' knowledge and understanding of their roles and responsibilities, and the type of training they receive have a marked effect on their functionality. There is also a need to recruit SGB members with a particular level of education, knowledge, understanding and expertise to minimize the chances of failure. / Educational Studies / Thesis (M. Ed.)
