Brynte, Sofia, Hörnqvist, Emma January 2023 (has links)
Nyckelord:Ledarskap, Hofstedes kulturella dimensioner, Competing Value framework, sjukvården, organisationskultur, nationell kultur. / Abstract Title:Healthcare workers' view on work and work environment, through the perspective of organizational and national culture - A study comparing Sweden and Switzerland. Level:Student thesis, final assignment for Bachelor Degree in Business Administration.  Authors:Emma Hörnqvist och Sofia Brynte Supervisor:Monika Wallmon Date:June 2023   Aim:A study aiming to compare Swedish and Swiss healthcare workers' view on work and work environment, through the perspective of organizational- and national culture. Executed using Hofstede's cultural dimensions & the Competing value framework.    Method:Qualitative methods were used throughout this study, conducting ten semi-structured interviews and surveys. Respondents currently working within the health sector, and not in a leader role of the organization, were chosen.     Results & conclusions:The results reveal factors within national- and organizational culture affecting healthcare workers view on work and work environment. Switzerland and Sweden show similarities regarding the importance of laws, formalities and following of protocol to maintain stability, masculine characteristics within the organization and that interactions with patients are affected by feminine characteristics. The most distinct difference between the countries is how the coworkers are treated by the organization. Switzerland has a noticeable focus on the employees well-being, described using the HR in CVF, in comparison to Sweden. Contribution of the thesis:Our study's theoretical contributions lean on the importance of understanding the employees´ view on work and work environment, through the perspective of organizational- and national culture. No matter if the organization is revenue driven or not, since it affects the organization´s possibility to achieve favorable results. The practical contribution of the study is based on displaying one, of probably many, parts to factor in when discussing future improvements of the healthcare sector.   Suggestions for future research:Future studies would benefit from examining existing concurrent on the healthcare market and its effect on the employees. Including other cultural dimensions would also be a beneficial addition. Future studies could also examine if similar patterns exist in other parts of Switzerland, in other countries or in specific sectors of the healthcare system, using the same theoretical framework as our study.  Key words:Leadership, Hofstede's cultural dimension, Competing Value framework, healthcare, organizational culture, national culture

Nestor, Linnea, Wrigstad, Ellinor January 2022 (has links)

Cross-Cultural Comparison of Servant Leadership in the United States and Latin America

Merino, Ismael 01 December 2016 (has links)
In this study, the subject matter evaluated is the difference between the United States and Latin America concerning the practice and acceptance of servant leadership. This research compares the practice and the acceptance of servant leadership between the United States of America and Latin America. In order to do this, a cross-cultural comparison was conducted between these two groups. The objective was to find the differences in the leadership styles of these two groups and subsequently analyze the results. The Hofstede’s cultural dimensions were used to be able to compare cultural differences, and understand why these differences appear in the societies of the two groups studied. A survey was conducted in order to gather different feedback from individuals of the U.S. as well as from Latin America. The approach for this research started by analyzing the results of the survey and dividing it into the two cultural groups. The results were tested using a one tailed t-test for the mean difference of independent samples. This research provides information on how and why leadership styles differ between the two groups studied and what are the characteristics that people seek in leaders of these two groups when testing servant leadership between the U.S. and Latin American samples.

Nezamaldin, Rand, Åhlander, Rebecka January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine how those responsible for gender equality at Folksam work with gender equality. It also aims to examine the norms and cultures that can affect their work on gender equality. This is examined by four semi structured interviews with two people who are working internally to get Folksam more equal and with two people that are working externally at Folksam to get other companies, both in Sweden and abroad, to become more equal. The conclusion is that norms from for example politics affect the respondents at Folksam, since the politics requires them to be equal, but also because their customers want it. It is also a profitability question as well as a human right and therefore they want to change the current norm. They are trying to do that internally through, for instance, a competency-based recruitment, a diversity plan and by trusting that everyone is trying to work with it within Folksam. And by trying to influence other corporations through external corporate governance. This may also be difficult to do according to gender- and the new institutionalism theory, because of the existing institutional norms in society that is working against it. Norms can also be shown in the Swedish culture, which can be explained with the Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions Theory.

Do Thanh, Marie-Noëlle D. 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the impact of cultural differences on foreign workers’ integration and health. Cultural differences are assessed using the concept of cultural distance between Hofstede’s cultural dimensions, integration using the concept of acculturation, and health using the concept of psychological health at work. The immigrants’ personal resources (proactivity, optimism and resilience) are also considered. The study was conducted in two call centers of a major financial cooperative in Quebec. The sample consists of 100 first generation immigrants in Montreal. The study’s results highlight the significant but moderate impacts of cultural differences on both the psychological health and the acculturation style at work, as well as the significant impact of personal resources (resilience) on foreign workers’ acculturation and psychological health at work. Strong cultural differences would generate greater psychological well-being at work and would engender the adoption of integrative acculturation style. Resilience stands out as a key personal resource for an immigrant’s health. The results further underline the particular role of the work sphere for foreign workers, with scientific literature supporting the idea that the workplace would have a significant impact on their psychological health. In addition to the above, a list of research limitations, recommendations for improvement and paths of action have been suggested.

Localizing the tortilla chips: a case study of Doritos' communicative strategies in Taiwan

José Manuel Galiano García Unknown Date (has links)
無 / This study examines the strategies adopted by the global brand Dorito’s in Taiwan, and contrasts the communicative strategies with those used in Mexican market. The foundation of this analysis resided in Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions. This research has sampled filmic advertisements used in previous and current campaigns in both countries available in social media and video sharing platforms. Cultural values, marketing appeals, and value paradoxes were analyzed, as well as other elements like product design and packaging have been assessed to understand the implications and the role that national culture plays when creating marketing strategies. Product localization and standardization have their implications in this study. Doritos’ brand communicative strategies have been modified to fit into the taste of Taiwanese buyers, adopting different appeals and values than those utilized in Mexican market. Recurrent use of value paradox, in harmony with Doritos’ brand values is found to be consistent in Mexico and Taiwan. One of the most remarkable value paradoxes adopted in branding is irreverence it extends the reach of campaigns, and brand memorability. Product standardization across markets has been a long-time strategy adopted by Doritos, although, some characteristics like flavor and spiciness level were modified in order to fit Taiwanese buyers’ taste. The data set utilized for the purposes of this study was constrained and dramatically reduced by the availability of video-based advertisements publicly available on social media channels of Doritos in each market. Doritos’ brand communicative strategies have been modified to fit into the taste of Taiwanese buyers, adopting different appeals and values than those utilized in Mexican market. Product standardization across markets has been a long-time strategy adopted by Doritos, although, some characteristics like flavor and spiciness level were modified in order to fit Taiwanese buyers’ taste.

CEO Compensation and the Relationship with Company Growth : An Analysis of Swedish Listed OMX Stockholm Companies

Nordlund, Albin, Pettersson Sango, Mathias January 2022 (has links)
As time progresses and compensation increases for CEOs, the need for information will be required to debate whether it is rational for CEOs to receive more pay in various forms. According to agency theory, CEOs have an intrinsic need to act in their self-interests, while the shareholder requires value creation and implements various safeguards to ensure that the CEOs do what they are expected to do. Therefore, corporate governance, which is a part of corporations' mechanisms, could be an act to minimise agency costs while forming the CEOs' compensation and controlling the work with various measures. Financial performance methods themselves, such as comparing revenue between years to control CEOs' work, are indeed essential to see if these could influence the CEOs' agenda.  There have been previous studies regarding CEO compensation and company growth. However, there is a lack of research made in Sweden, especially for listed companies on OMX Stockholm. This research found a relationship between CEO compensation and firm growth. Nonetheless, previous research has shown contradicting results. This thesis performed a panel data regression that includes 354 unique firms that formed the OMX Stockholm PI, an index on Nasdaq. The firms have been observed for seven years, creating a data set with approximately 2,500 observations.

Intercultural Communication In The Global Age: Lessons Learned From French Technical Communicators

Tallman, Nicole 01 January 2013 (has links)
This thesis explores the cultural considerations American technical communicators must address when working with French colleagues and when creating technical documentation for French audiences. A review of the literature on intercultural communication theory was conducted, along with a review of the limited research on technical communication in France and the needs of French audiences. A qualitative online survey of French technical communicators was also conducted. Through this survey, French technical communicators reported on their intercultural beliefs, experiences, and practices, and information, language, and cultural needs. Survey responses were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Two main themes were developed as a result of this analysis: the importance of adapting content to French audiences, and the cultural differences between French and American information needs and communication styles. Survey findings are combined with theoretical and practical literature to offer American technical communicators guidance for successful intercultural interactions. This thesis concludes with suggestions for future practice and research in intercultural technical communication.
