"Alla och hans moster tränar" : Icke-användares upplevelser av träningstrenden

Carlén, Sara, Wasmuth, Camilla January 2017 (has links)

“Of course you should read aloud to children!” A study of reading and reading aloud habits among parents of preschool children, who do not use libraries.

Holm, Fredrik January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate reading habits among parents of preschool children who do not use the public library. Another aim has been to investigate why these parents don’t use the library and if there is anything the library can do to change this. Little research had earlier been done on this subject. The theoretical framework consists of two different models. One is Andersson´s and Skot-Hansen´s model of the four different roles of the public library. The other is Jochumsen´s and Hvenegaard Rasmussen´s model of social space and lifestyles. To answer my questions I have carried out interviews with five parents. In order to find interviewees I first distributed a questionnaire via different preschools. The results show that some of the parents read relatively often and that they all read aloud to their children on a daily basis. They have all been library attenders at some point in life. The reason for not using the library presently varies. Some parents prefer to buy books so that they do not need to think about returning them. Some of them are also discouraged by their image of the library as a place where you must be quiet. These parents also tend to forget that the library exists or believe that it mainly targets other demographic groups. The library can address some of these problems and some not, for instance by developing marketing strategies, implement technical applications that send reminders in advance when books are due back and a more inviting environment.

Vad är en icke-användare? : En begreppsanalys av begreppet icke-användare i folkbibliotekskontexter / What is a non-user? : A Concept Analysis of the concept non-user in public library contexts

Engstedt, Hanna, Holm, Idamaria January 2023 (has links)
There is a discrepancy in research within library and information science in the use of the concept non-user, and no research about librarians’ use of the concept can be found. If librarians define the concept differently it may affect how they share experiences with one another and how they design outreach towards library non-users. An Evolutionary concept analysis of the concept in relation to public libraries is carried out based on the use of the concept in a survey answered by librarians, and research literature. The study supports results from previous studies of non-users and finds that the concept non-user is applied in different manners. The results show that there are similarities in the application of the concept with attributes relating to the non-use of the library, when or if use occurred and as a challenge. The differences found are mostly based on the context of application such as between research literature and librarians’ usage but also in regards to geographical location and the speciality of the librarians. The main finding is the difference in the use of the concept non-user, where the research literature and inner city librarians have a more conservative use than librarians in general and the librarians in the outer par tof the city. This study contributes to a broader understanding of the concept non-user and how the context can affect the use of the concept and how the concept can be applied in these contexts.

To refrain from public libraries : A qualitative study of non-users’ information and culture habits and their perceived remoteness to public libraries

Azizzadeh, Mani, Bengtsson, Kent January 2007 (has links)
The main purpose of this Master’s thesis is to develop an understanding of why non-users do not use public libraries by studying their information and culture habits and their relationship to public libraries. One of the motivating factors behind this choice is the lack of earlier research on the subject, particularly qualitative research. The theoretical framework is stratified into three associated levels with Brenda Dervin’s sense-making theory on an individual level, Marianne Andersson’s and Dorte Skot-Hansen’s model of the roles of public libraries on an institutional level and Pierre Bourdieu’s theoretical apparatus on a social level. Eight interviewees were chosen based on a set of selection criteria and interviewed with semi-structured interviews. After an analysis and discussion of the collected empirical data the main conclusion is that there are obstacles to the use of public libraries on three related levels, corresponding to the levels in the theoretical framework. On an individual level the impediment is that the non-users are content without the public library: they have a lifestyle where the needs of culture and information are satisfied through the use of other channels than public libraries. The view of the public library as non-attractive and not adapted for their needs constitute a hindrance on an institutional level while the social distance between the non-users and people strongly linked to the public library, such as librarians and frequent users, constitute a barrier on a social level. Altogether, these obstacles rather clearly indicate why public libraries are not used.

Sundström, Selina January 2011 (has links)
For a long period of time there have been discussions about the need to modernize, to keep up with the changes in our society. The schools as a result have to keep up and adapt in order for the education to be up-to-date. This includes the technological developments. Many steps have been taken and mighty sums have been invested in order to keep up the pace – but are there any consequences from these kinds of investments? In this report I’m going to take a closer look on a recent addition to this phenomenon that were installed by means of a top-down approach and study the teachers and how they have adapted and view the change in their environment – namely the newly installed interactive writing-boards. The questions I will study include how the teachers express their view about the installation of the interactive writing-boards. If there are different kinds, groups, of opinions and if so, what causes such differences? My objective is to exemplify through an empirical study how teachers relate to the technology. This includes the pros and cons of the technology’s presence in the classroom. Through my results I have been able to conclude that there are indeed different categories of users. I have identified the User, the Positive None-user and the Critic. The main difference that separates the User from the None-user is the level of education in regards of handling the mechanical boards. The main benefit of the board is the variation it gives the lessons and the higher degree of material that can be shared to the class. The down-side, according to my results – other than the risk for technical problems that by many is seen as to add an element of insecurity to the planed lessons – is the severe lack of education the teachers have been given on the area.

: A study of of non-users’ perceptions and thoughts concerning school libraries at four middle schoo

Fried, Sofia, George, Karin January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to explore the reasons fifteen-year-old students give for not using their school library. One of the objectives of this study is to contribute to increasing the relevance of school libraries for as many students as possible by investigating what non-users think of their school library. The questions posed are: Why do some students not visit their school library? What are the non-users’ perceptions of their school library? What value do the non-users’ attach to their school library? The theoretical framework used to analyze the results is the theory on economies of worth developed by Boltanski and Thévenot (2006). The empirical material consists of transcripts from group interviews at four different schools. The results of the thesis show that students have a wide range of reasons for not visiting the school library. Some of the students didn’t particularly enjoy reading and therefore didn’t feel that the library was a place for them. Other reasons given were that their school library was closed most of the time, was uninviting, didn’t have a great selection of books or that the students forgot that it existed. In conclusion, in order for the school library to be relevant to more students, clearer communication about what the library has to offer to students and school staff alike is needed. The school library needs to be reevaluated and adapted in order to include all students.

Användares och icke-användares relation till folkbibliotekets marknadsföring : en enkätstudie / Library users and non-users relationship to public library marketing : a survey

Lilja, Felicia January 2023 (has links)
This bachelor thesis examines the perceptions and attitudes that library users and non-users have with public library marketing. The study aims to understand the relationship the library users and non-users have with public library marketing and what they think the public library should promote. It also discusses the important role the public library plays in a changing society, partly in terms of the social capital it helps to build and the social and cultural participation it helps to strengthen among its users. This study is based on an online survey and the results have been analyzed with relationship marketing, action organization and SWOT-analysis. The findings show that the library users and non-users are generally positive towards the public library marketing. However both groups indicate that the public library needs to innovate its marketing to make it feel modern and reach out through the channels that the users and non-users request.

Engstrand, Marie, Johansson, Daniel January 2013 (has links)
The study aimed to gain insight and understanding why members of a clean and sober compound chosen to be clean and sober, why they joined the association and the importance it has. The questions used were (1) Why did members of an association choose not to use alcohol and drugs and which are the factors that may have contributed to this? and (2) Why did they join a clean and sober association and what is the importance of the association? To answer the questions six qualitative interviews were done. Results were analyzed with the help of comparison with previous research in the field and relevant theories. The results demonstrated that affiliation and the feeling of security and jacking from parents were related to the interviewees' interest in alcohol and drugs. The clean and sober compound had an important function of the interviewees by affirming one's identity as a teetotaler, and that there was a community that shares similar values regarding alcohol and drugs.

Wass, Ronnie, Tudeen, Johanna January 2016 (has links)
Over the last couple of years’ social media has come to have an influential role in our lives. With the broad use questions has raised if social media use can have negative effects. We have seen a recurrent tendency in media and society that encourage people to overlook their social media use and seen cases of people reducing their private social media use. The purpose of this study is to examine attitudes in young adults whom have taken a break from social media or reduced their usage. Furthermore, we wanted to distinguish what types of strategies they have used when they renounced from social media. With a qualitative approach we interviewed five young adults that had waived from social media during different periods of time due to negative usage experiences. We examined our empirical material along side with previous research on social media, Goffman’s impression management theory and Nanna Gillberg’s notion on Bourdieu’s forms of capital. We found that people tend to see the opportunity of impression control as something tedious and time consuming which had lead to a diminished use of social media. When tackle this aspect of social media, it came down to reducing your usage to an extent without having to compromise the possibility social media offers to keep in contact with friends.
