Martins, Marilia Compagnoni. January 2000 (has links)
Abstract: The reactions of four different implant surfaces were evaluated in regard to the development and progression of peri-implantitis: titanium commercially pure (Ticp), titanium plasma spray (TPS) hidroxiapatite coated (HA) and acid attached surfaces (Ost). Six dogs had their premolars extracted. After 90 days, the implants were ramdonly placed and the dogs receive soft diet, chemical and mechanical plaque control; after the osseointegration period (90 days), the healing abutments were placed. After the healing period (45 days), the plaque control was suspended, and cotton ligatures were installed when the first clinical (probing depth, bleeding on probing, plaque index, bleeding index, and mobility) and radiographic (bone loss) exams were taken. These parameters were re-exanimate after 20, 40 and 60 days, when the ligatures were changed. The results did not show significant differences between the surfaces in any parameter observed except for the mobility (evaluated with PeriotestÒ), and bone loss. These two parameters had the TPS surface with the lower rates. It was conclude that the surfaces show similar behavior during the induction of peri-implantitis, except for the mobility and bone loss parameters witch the TPS implants had better behavior. / Orientador: Ricardo Samih Georges Abi Rached / Coorientador: Elcio Marcantonio Junior / Banca: Rosemary Adriana Chiérice Marcantonio / Banca: Luiz Antonio Pugliesi Alves de Lima / Mestre

At normal levels, it has positive effect on volume, bone quality as well as its density. Considering the large number of people who present serum changes of the same, this research aims to observe the rate of hypovitaminosis D (hD) in the study population and the factors that may influence the incidence of hD, and to evaluate the influence of hD on peri-implant clinical and radiographic conditions. All the participants of the groups were submitted to a Semi-quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire on the intake of dietary calcium (QFASQ), in order to evaluate the risk factors. Patients were submitted to laboratory tests of 25-hydroxyvitamin D dosing, those with a serum LDL level of less than 30ng / mL were allocated to the abnormal (insufficient or defficient) group and the participants with dosages equal to or greater than 30ng/mL were allocated to the normal (sufficient) group. Participants received the following evaluations: peri-implant clinical analysis (depth of probing, keratinized mucosa width, modified groove bleed index, modified plaque index), radiographic analysis (distance between the implant cervical and the mesial and distal). Patients who were allocated to the abnormal group were submitted to VD replacement, and a new clinical and radiographic analysis was performed. It was found that in the initial study population about 36% of individuals had hD. As for the food questionnaire, lower intake of milk products, such as yogurt and lower frequency of physical activities, showed a higher risk for one hD. Clinical analysis showed that VD was statistically non-statistically significant for probing depth, keratinized mucosal width, modified plaque index, and for modified bleeding index between the 2 periods, in relation to peri-implant parameters. It was concluded that less than half of the sample had hD and calcium-rich foods may contribute to normal serum levels of VD. VD did not influence the peri-implant clinical parameters studied.

Estudo in vivo e in vitro da corrosão de ligas de Co-Cr e de Ni-Cr utilizadas em estruturas protéticas de implantes orais / In vitro and in vivo studies of corrosion of Co-Cr and Ni-Cr alloys used in oral implant prosthetic superstructures

Eduardo Inada 13 August 2013 (has links)
In this study, the electro-chemical behavior of three nickel-chrome and two cobalt chrome alloys was studied in vitro and in vivo. In the in vitro studies, working electrodes made of these alloys were fabricated. These electrodes were immersed in a medium of NaCl 0.15 mol.L-1 at 36.5°C and were submitted to the open circuit potential, anodic potentiostatic polarization and chronoamperometry techniques. For the in vivo studies, 15 patients whose implants had osseointegrated, and who were waiting for dental implant placement, were selected. These patients were randomly distributed into five groups, corresponding to the five different alloys. Thus the prosthetic implant superstructures were cast, using the five alloys. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used as methods to analyze the metal lingual surfaces of the prostheses, before they were placed in the oral environment, and after six months in place. Visualized by SEM, the two cobalt-chrome alloys Starloy C and Remanium 2001, and two types of nickel-chrome - Wiron 99 and Remanium Cse - presented heterogeneous surfaces characterized by a phase similar to that of the alloy matrix, and the other phase composed of elements of greater atomic density, corresponding to the interdendritic phase. After six months, there were no signs of corrosion and significant alterations in the composition of these alloys. The Co-Cr alloys evaluated, from an electrochemical point of view, indicated a cathodic behavior when united to the implant, this being a factor indicative of protection against corrosion. Within the limits of the in vitro studies, the Ni-Cr alloys presented a passive film with an ample range of potential in which they remained passive, with absence of corrosion due to pitting. The nickel-chrome alloy Dan Ceramalloy presented a heterogeneous surface with four distinct areas (Area 1 rich in titanium; Area 2 rich in nickel; Area 3 corresponding to the matrix; Area 4 rich in molybdenum). After six months, the three metal-ceramic dental prostheses presented the regions corresponding to Phase 2, rich in nickel, with depressions in low relief, suggesting oxidation with nickel ion release. In the in vitro studies, the alloy Dan Ceramalloy presented a more negative corrosion potential, a narrower range of passive potential and a less protective film, when compared with the other alloys studied. In despite of the process of corrosion of the alloys not having been clinically observed, the in vitro and in vivo studies of this material allowed verification of its electrochemical behavior, and suggest that its use in prosthetic superstructures for oral implants should be discontinued. The in vitro and in vivo studies were shown to be in agreement for all the materials studied.

Synthèse et caractérisations physico-chimiques et biologiques de revêtements implantaires bioactifs / Synthesis and physicochemical and biological characterization of bioactive implant coatings

D'Almeida, Mélanie 15 December 2014 (has links)
In the past years, population requirement for dental care service increased. More precisely, replacement of missing tooth using dental implant is now a common intervention. As implant provides an artificial root, this procedure is permanent. The failure of the placement procedure is mainly due to an inflammatory disease: peri-implantitis. This disease leads to the death of bone tissues surrounding the dental implant. Today only curative solutions are available, and no implants can prevent bacterial development. It appears that preventing post-surgical complications by designing antibacterial implants is now a public health issue. To achieve this goal, we evaluate in this thesis different solutions to design bioactive implant coatings. We focused our work on coating of a model titanium surface by a bioactive polymer: chitosan. Polymer binding on the substrate is achieved by covalent link using a coupling agent. We described each step of the coating synthesis and characterized its biological properties using both surface chemistry analysis and cell biology techniques. We studied its behavior in an acid environment and analyzed its biological and antibacterial properties in vitro. Results of this work were used to select the bioactive coating with the best properties for the intended application, particularly due to its resistance in acidic condition and its antibacterial activity against common bacteria

En metodutveckling av individuella skenor för plackansamling på etsade, blästrade och implantoplastik- ytbehandlade titanfixturer / A method development of individual splints for plaque accumulation on etched, blasted or implantoplasty surface-treated titanium fixtures

Farizi, Laura, Demiri, Shkurte January 2023 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to perform a method development where individual splints are produce to enable a standardized measurements of plaque accumulation on the surfaces of titanium fixtures, while allowing to maintain good oral hygiene.    Material and method: Seventy titanium fixtures were surface-treated in three ways; sandblasting, etching, and implantoplasty. The study involved eleven participants, and eleven gypsum models were created. Twelve individual splints were designed using modeling wax, taking into consideration each participant's occlusal conditions. Cold-polymerized orthocryl was used to fabricate the splints and cylinder. A total of seventy cylinders were prepared, each with two openings. Each individual splint included six fixtures, one from each treatment method. The fixture placement followed a randomized pattern, comprising six different variations. The twelfth splint deviated from the randomized pattern and contained four fixtures: two from implantoplasty, one etched, and one sandblasted.    Results: The method development for measuring plaque accumulation on different surface-treated fixtures using individual splints in relation to good oral hygiene, was successfully conducted. The results demonstrated that the rough surface following sandblasting exhibited the highest plaque accumulation (0,604 mm), whereas implantoplasty showed the lowest plaque accumulation (0,342 mm).    Conclusion: Within the scope of this study, the following conclusion can be drawn: By individual splints, it is possible to measure plaque accumulation on etched, sandblasted, and implantoplasty-treated titanium fixtures. The results show a clear indication that fit, and comfort are important factors for participant’s compliance.

Étude de l’expression des cytokines et métalloprotéases dans les tissus péri-implantaires inflammatoires et rôle potentiel du titane dans les péri-implantites / Cytokines & metalloproteases expression in peri-implant inflammatory tissues and the potential involvement of titanium in peri-implantitis

Ghighi, Maxime 04 December 2017 (has links)
Peri-implantitis lesions present an irreversible destruction of the peri-implant surrounding tissues. The pathogenic pathway of peri-implantitis is close from the one of periodontitis which is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by a bacterial biofilm leading to irreversible supportive bone destruction around teeth. Still, the inflammatory process and the bone destruction differ between the two diseases. In addition, conventional non-surgical treatments are not effective for the treatment of peri-implantitis. The aim of our work is to analyze the differences between inflammatory and catabolic mediators of peri-implant tissues compared to diseased periodontal tissues after conventional non-surgical therapy. We have constructed a biological collection of human explants of peri-implant or periodontal connective tissue. Multiplex assays of the conditioned media and histological analysis of the explants revealed an increased expression of the TIMP-2 metalloprotease inhibitor, interleukin IL-10, and RANK-L in the peri-implant tissues. In agreement with a review of literature that we conducted in our work, our hypothesis is that these differences can be explained, at least partly, by the presence of titanium wear particles in the peri-implant tissues. Our work contributes to the understanding of the pathogenesis of the disease and contributes to the identification of biomarkers.

This study aimed to identify the accuracy of some enhancement filters of an intraoral phosphor-plate system for measuring the simulated periimplant bone level. Twenty titanium implants (Titamax, Neodent, Curitiba, PR, Brazil) were placed into six fragments of bovine ribs and defects simulating bone loss were created. Periapical radiographs were taken with a phosphor-plate system (Vista Scan, Dürr Dental, Beitigheim-Bissingen, Germany) according to the paralleling standard technique, and nine enhancement filters were applied: fine, caries 1, caries 2, perio, endo, noise reduction, invert, emboss and sculpture. An oral radiologist measured on the Image J software the distance from the neck of the implant to the most apical contact of the bone with the implant. The Friedman non-parametric test compared the radiographic measurements to those obtained on the bovine ribs with a digital caliper. The significance level adopted was 5%. The caries1, caries2, endo, and perio filters resulted on measurements statistically different from both the original images and the measures of the digital caliper (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the fine and emboss filters resulted on the most precise filters, with similar measures to the original images. The caries1, caries2, endo, and perio filters were the less accurate for measuring the periimplant bone level / Mestrado / Radiologia Odontologica / Mestre em Radiologia Odontológica
