This thesis looks to analyze the contemporary process of productive restructuring, as a set of changing relationships between companies, the working class and the state, reflects the organizational scope of work, attracting a specific phase of restoration of the forms of capitalist accumulation. The modernization carried out by the productive restructuring of the 1990s in Nova Serrana made the shoe industry rationalize the exploitation of labor, rebuilding forms of accumulation and reinventing the home workshops. Taking as its starting point the productive restructuring as a historical process in the development of capitalism in Brazil, we tried to understand the various nuances of informality, such as the feminization of home paid work, child and youth work, among other elements present in daily practices of workers and how they have faced the crisis of employment in productive sectors starting in the 1990s with the economic opening. To this end, semi-structured interviews with workers of the workshops in the city, using the explanatory methodological research approach. The results point to a scenario in which informality in the home workshops in the footwear industry in Nova Serrana as inherent to flexible accumulation of contemporary capitalism figure which is reflected in the restructuring process / Doutorado / Sociologia / Doutor em Sociologia

In a conceptual purposeful key, the dissertation aims to outline a mode of advertising we call vernacular. This variant is on the fringes of official advertising limits, approached by Maria Eduarda Rocha (2010) as the rhetoric of capital, that is defined by the relationship agency, advertisers and mass media outlets and advertising production standards already placed on the market. The work comes from the intention to define and address actions that do not fit in the methods and media spaces traditionally used as supports for advertising narratives. We speak of a marginal communication, since the centrality was defined by advertising when it was formalized, defined through a speech and established rules and pertinent codes to its field so as to strengthen as an institution and sustain a market for the capitalist production of goods, excluding all forms of persuasive communication that do not fit the agenda of standardized models. In order to build the conceptual map that we propose, we make use of notions of Michael de Certeau (1998) to differentiate the tactical modes of action, which we attribute to the vernacular and strategic advertising, which we relate to official advertising. Rather than determining a production space, we believe that this work will be an useful way to think the contemporary advertising, which seems, in our point of view, to be in need of tactical acting, especially when it comes to social media networks.

We investigate the relationship between the informal education and the maintenance of artisanal fisheries and the livelihood of fishermen in the colony of fishermen Z-9 in São José da Coroa Grande, a city of the southern coast of Pernambuco. We used, since a methodology joint between Paul Ricoeur and Ernesto Lacrau, the oral history, exploring categories such as craftsmanship, solidarity economy, popular economy, informal education. The collected data were transcribed and analysed carefully, using categories established by the encounter between theory and empirical data. We concluded that the identity of the fishermen is essentially discursive, building or losing political power to the extent of its ability to not to get caught by the dominant social logic, equalized by the interests of the Capital and, specifically, by the Industrial fisheries. This informal education is closelyrelated to artisanal fisheries, being essencial for its maintainance, to the extent that it can counteract the harmful effects of a market-oriented schooling.

The Economy of Drugs in heterodox approach

The field said Economy of Drugs covers complex social relations that consolidates an intense process of capital accumulation. This sector features specificities linked to underground, particularities associated to each product and similarities to other industries and sectors of the formal economy. This subject is studied in this dissertation, that has as goal to help explain the reasons which the anti-drugs policies can¿t cease this market. For that, a study of the products, the market and of the main actors was held, as well as the dynamics and logic inherent to the drugs business, it uses references, empiric evaluations (supported by estimates and data supplied by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime ¿ UNODC) and information associations available about the drugs business with theories and concepts of the heterodoxy economic approach. The main results showed that the global demand for drugs remained stable, that the repressive policies did not cease the cultivation and production, it just caused changes and relocation between regions, and that the prices of the psychoactive has declined in the last two decades. It follows that the illegal drugs market present characteristics close to sectors like oligopoly competitive, but with high profit margins for a long term enabled by the illicit character and restricted to leading "enterprises", that adopt as strategies flexibility and coherence, standing out by its capacity and speed to adapt and innovate. Finally, it highlights that innovation not only sets up a competitive advantage, but symbolize the condition of existence of the drugs market, contemplation the permanent process of "creative destruction" of Schumpeter / Mestrado / Economia Social e do Trabalho / Mestra em Desenvolvimento Econômico

[en] ABOUT MAPS, PIRATES AND TREASURES: REFRAMING OF CULTURAL PRODUCTS BY THE DVD S INFORMAL MARKET OF RIO DE JANEIRO / [pt] SOBRE MAPAS, PIRATAS E TESOUROS: RESSIGNIFICAÇÃO DE PRODUTOS CULTURAIS PELO MERCADO INFORMAL DE DVDS

02 December 2021 (has links)
[en] The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the narratives sliding and reframing process launched by the DVD s informal market of Rio de Janeiro. The objective is to verify how the appropriation of cultural goods raise changes in the reception of works previously produced by another distribution system. Nowadays the development of information technologies and the possibilities of content appropriation in the web have been changing the routes of cultural goods. The decentralized structure of this new cultural logic brings effects not only to the universe of the spectator s reception, but also to the line production of major communication corporations. Not pointed out by its own products, the scheme of actions adopted by the parallel market are characterized by the managing of ready made products, making use of tricks such as reproducing new covers and renaming the DVDs with titles different from the original. In this dissertation, among a wide range of data collected in field research, pieces of DVD collections made by hucksters, as well as several DVD mountings (DVDs that have never been officially launched, as known in the parallel market) have been selected for analysis.

The contribution of informal sector trade to poverty reduction in Rusape, Zimbabwe

Saunyama, Tatenda Churchill January 2013 (has links)
Zimbabwe has been experiencing an exponential increase in the levels of household poverty because of the contraction of the formal economy. This state of affairs has resulted in a significant proportion of Zimbabweans engaging in informal sector trade to mitigate the effects of economic decline. The goal of the study was to determine the contribution of informal sector trade to poverty reduction in Rusape, Zimbabwe. The researcher adopted a qualitative research approach and the study was applied in nature as it sought to understand how poverty can be reduced through informal sector trade. The research design was a collective case study. The researcher made use of availability sampling and interviewed participants who were willing and available on a one-on-one basis. The study contextualised how informal sector trade reduces poverty within the social development approach. The study established that informal trade was a commercial enterprise that was undertaken by both men and women of all ages to sustain their households. Engagement in informal trade accorded informal traders the opportunity to be self-sufficient and to generate incomes. The incomes obtained from informal trade enabled the participants to provide for the dietary, medical, housing and educational needs of their families. The study also revealed a number of business survival strategies employed by informal traders to ensure sustainability. Findings show that rotational credit and savings schemes (ROCSS) play an important role in sustaining informal trade operations and their contribution to a reduction in household poverty. The study concluded that engagement in informal trade reduces household poverty. Recommendations include how the State can facilitate the growth of the informal sector. Furthermore, it is recommended that the social work profession should actively engage government structures and advocate for the development of the informal sector and the widespread adoption of the social development approach which reduces poverty in a sustainable manner. / Dissertation (MSW)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / am2014 / Social Work and Criminology / unrestricted

Townships to CBD: The project of ten informal traders in the formal economy of Cape Town, Western Cape

Duncan, Charleen Lucille January 2020 (has links)
Magister Artium (Development Studies) - MA(DVS) / The Quarterly Labour Force survey by Statistics South Africa (2019) portrays a very bleak future for the South African economy and labour force. The unemployment rate is 27.6% and youth unemployment stands at 55.2%. The National Development Plan (NDP) recognises the relevance of the informal sector and the value that it will contribute to the economy and to solving the challenges of unemployment in South Africa. The NDP projects that the informal sector, which includes domestic work, will create between 1,2 and 2 million new jobs by 2030. Few studies have been conducted on informal trading projects. This study explores the case of a ‗transitional‘ informal enterprise support project aimed at micro-enterprise development wherein 10 informal traders in Cape Town took occupancy of provincial government-sponsored kiosks on 9 May 2016. The Long Street kiosks (LSK) offer 10 traders per year a unique trading opportunity in the CBD free of rent and service charges for a period of one year, with access to a unique and potentially large market. The purpose of this study is to critically examine the role played in the informal enterprise development project by the Western Cape provincial government through its project manager, the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT). This research attempts to investigate aspects of project design such as the selection criteria of the informal traders for the project, and selected results such as whether the project provided the traders with enough market exposure to the formal economy and whether their businesses were improved by participation in the project. The qualitative research approach was used for this study of the LSK project, which was a single case study, as both a unit of analysis and as a research method. The study involved a combination of two approaches, namely desktop research followed by interviews and focus group sessions. The study found that a number of limitations and shortcomings in the conduct of the project impacted on the mixed results and success achieved, pertaining to selection criteria, lack of financial and other resources, training, market-related problems, skill set limitations as well as environmental factors such as transport. The study nevertheless cast useful light on potential changes and recommendations that could enhance the project going forward and provides new insights on the complex relationship between the informal and formal economies and their relative potential for addressing the challenges of employment and economic growth.

Supporting informal awareness in order to facilitate informal communication in remote work contexts

Bakic, Jovan January 2021 (has links)
This thesis seeks to understand how informal awareness, the presence and availability information of coworkers, can be provided in remote contexts through technology. Based on a workplace study, it was discovered that informal communication is an important part of work and is inadequately supported by current technology. Through research, it was suggested that information on presence and availability is that which facilitates informal communication. In order to design for this situation, this thesis features six interactive peripheral display prototypes which seek to provide informal awareness in an unobtrusive and effortless way to geographically distributed coworkers. Going beyond monitors, these prototypes seek to utilize natural human sensory-motor capabilities to ease perception and interaction. The results suggest such devices are appropriate at mediating awareness and have the potential to facilitate informal communication.
