Spillovers from US monetary policy: Evidence from a time-varying parameter global vector autoregressive model

Crespo Cuaresma, Jesus, Doppelhofer, Gernot, Feldkircher, Martin, Huber, Florian 08 February 2019 (has links) (PDF)
The paper develops a global vector auto-regressive model with time varying pa- rameters and stochastic volatility to analyse whether international spillovers of US monetary policy have changed over time. The model proposed enables us to assess whether coefficients evolve gradually over time or are better characterized by infrequent, but large, breaks. Our find- ings point towards pronounced changes in the international transmission of US monetary policy throughout the sample period, especially so for the reaction of international output, equity prices and exchange rates against the US dollar. In general, the strength of spillovers has weakened in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. Using simple panel regressions, we link the vari- ation in international responses to measures of trade and financial globalization. We find that a broad trade base and a high degree of financial integration with the world economy tend to cushion risks stemming from a foreign shock such as US tightening of monetary policy, whereas a reduction in trade barriers and/or a liberalization of the capital account increase these risks.

Structural breaks in Taylor rule based exchange rate models - Evidence from threshold time varying parameter models

Huber, Florian 03 1900 (has links) (PDF)
In this note we develop a Taylor rule based empirical exchange rate model for eleven major currencies that endogenously determines the number of structural breaks in the coefficients. Using a constant parameter specification and a standard time-varying parametermodel as competitors reveals that our flexible modeling framework yields more precise density forecasts for all major currencies under scrutiny over the last 24 years. / Series: Department of Economics Working Paper Series

The field of innovation has developed around applied research in large companies and use of R & D as a source of innovation. This development has led to innovation assumptions that are not well suited to the context of small business innovation. Given these considerations, we support the thesis that innovation assumptions need to be revised to accommodate small business. In order to do this, we deal with three main aspects: the field of innovation, the context of generating innovation in small companies and innovation policies. The thesis was developed in the format of three articles. The first article, set forth in Chapter 1, is a theoretical essay and aims to 'discuss how innovation research in small business must be operationalized.' The second article, set out in Chapter 2, is a multiple case study and aims to 'understand how the manager/owner generates innovation in the small business.' The third article, presented in Chapter 3, is a documentary study and aims to analyze the adequacy of innovation policies for the development of the small business and the country. As a contribution, the insights generated in this thesis can guide innovation research in small enterprises, improve the practice of innovation in these organizations and guide the formulation of more appropriate innovation policies.

Soziale Innovation – Beiträge aus der Innovationsforschung der Technischen Universität Chemnitz / Social Innovation – Treatises from the Innovation Research of the Technische Universität Chemnitz

09 June 2017 (has links) (PDF)
Social Innovation - It is regarded as an elixir of modern societies, but sparse named in social togetherness. Politicians and scholars see it as the key to new social practices, which is caused by citizens. However, the clarification contains some challenges. In this publication, which was developed at Technische Universität Chemnitz, we ask: Which paradigm is deposited? Can we comprehend the construct philosophically? How can process models of social innovation be visualized? Are there conditions of evaluation and controllability? Are non-profit organizations an incubator for social innovation? Thus, in the present volume we intend a holistic view of the described phenomenon for scientists, students and interested parties.

LAYING THE FOUNDATION FOR SELF-MANAGEMENT SUPPORT IN A RECOVERY FRAMEWORK

Strong, Susan 10 1900 (has links)

The premise of the dissertation is that self-management support can be provided and be beneficial within a recovery framework for individuals living with serious mental illnesses.

Methods

A large regional service was studied as an exemplar of specialized service delivery. Using a van Manen phenomenological study through an occupational therapist lens, the meaning of clients’ experiences with self-management learning events in a diverse sample was examined. Conditions shaping clinicians’ experiences and actions enabling self-management across eight varied settings were identified in a Yin case study with embedded units. Provider triads (occupational therapist-nurse-social worker) from each setting, allowed an examination of patterns by individual, discipline and practice environment. With an integrated knowledge translation approach, both studies informed the strategic creation of an innovation and implementation plan for organizational change.

Results

Findings created a rich picture of clients’ lifeworlds learning self-management and conditions and mechanisms influencing clinician self-management support practices. Client self-management needs were not routinely addressed by services. Clients experienced eight tasks shaped by contextual structures represented in a model of the work of learning self-management. Self-management was enmeshed in recovery and a personal resource for self-determination and living well. Another model illustrated the complex dynamic relationships underpinning clinicians’ intentions and actions, and key features of clinicians enabling client self-management. A structured approach to delivering self-management support and a learning and embedding initiative were generated.

Conclusions

The dominance of practice environments offers an opportunity for organizational change. Direction is given to customize self-management support in a conventional mental health service. The conceptualization of self-management support within a recovery framework may benefit all client groups with long-standing conditions.
/ Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Hur gör man projektledare till innovatörer? : En analys av projektledares arbetsprocess inom byggbranschen / How to make project managers into innovators : An analysis of a project manager’s work process within the construction industry

Möllerberg, Erik, Tingelöf, Gustav January 2021 (has links)
Aim - The purpose of this thesis is to examine the possibilities for feedback and learning in the construction sector. In addition, it is also examining the possibilities of how to get employees involved into new solutions in a more flexible way. Theory - Innovation as a science field within construction bases much of its theories on Rogers, Schillings, Slaughters and Tatum’s work on innovation models and how they affect the implementation of the innovation. The theories also regard innovation diffusion and its focus on different actors and how they adapt to an innovation over time and about different key individuals such as Champions and Gatekeepers and their role in spreading the innovation. Method - This thesis is a qualitative study with an inductive approach which was conducted as a case study on a consultant company in Uppsala, Sweden which is active in the construction industry. 10 interviews were conducted with different project managers and two more interviews with individuals with connection to their work. In addition, an observation study was also carried out. Findings - The results showed that the innovation process is not prioritized due to time requirements and that it is not the main task of the consultant to be innovative. They should rather focus on delivering a stable product for its customers. However, the co-workers do overall want to be more innovative but the current way of spreading and delivering new solutions might not be the best suitable way based on the time it requires for them to engage in the innovation. Conclusion - The conclusion is that key individuals could be implemented and reduce other colleagues’ workload in the innovation work by absorbing ideas and new innovations. And summarize and visualize its benefits to the entire team.
