A Formal Construction for a new Veterinary Hospital

Aplin, Carl Dereck 03 August 2009 (has links)
Architecture, as the art of making a building, consists of an assemblage of elements that interact and interlock to create something whole—from an assembly of parts, emerges a unified composition. In this thesis exploration, I strive to take this simple idea, fundamental to all buildings—to the very process of building itself—and utilize it as a driving force. This proposal was conceived both as a response to the site and program,as well as an effort to control an arrangement of parts in order to create an integrated, functioning whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. The resulting architecture derives its existence and identity from the articulation of these individual elements and the manner in which they interact and connect. Furthermore, this choreography generates a certain sequence of spaces creating moments of pause, compression, and release. There is a certain level of complexity that results from the formal play of setting elements into motion against the site and each other. Accepting this condition, the designer's will must be exerted in an effort to gain/maintain control of this composition. As such, this architecture explores the possibilities of complexity generated through the formal arrangement of parts. / Master of Architecture

Interaktion mellan de yngsta förskolebarnen : Fri lek på förskolan / Interaction between toddlers : Free play at pre-school

Rapinoja, Larisa January 2015 (has links)
The aim of the study is to describe how toddlers at pre-school interact with each other during the free play. The following research-questions have been chosen: In which ways are made visible when toddlers interact with each other during the free play? Which repeated patterns are there in toddler’s interaction with each other? The method that was used was observation. Implementing of observations happened during five days on a pre-school. Observations show that the interaction makes visible in various ways when it comes to toddlers, for example through observing, laughing and using the verbal communication. Repeated patterns that are shown are for example eye contact and smile occurs when toddlers interact with each other

"Att föräldrarna får vara sig själva är den stora vinsten" : en studie med betoning på den kortare inskolningsmodellen i förskolan

Trolle, Anna-Lena January 2010 (has links)
I have examined acclimatization models in pre-school. My emphasis is on the shorter acclimatization models. To begin pre-school is a big change, not only for small children, for the whole family as well. It is important to get a good acclimatization in pre-school, and one of the things it takes to achieve that is to interact with the parents. The reason why I chose this subject was because we have not studied much literature about this subject during our education to become pre-school teachers. I have intervjued five pedagogues about their experiences of the short acclimatization model. My aim is to find out why the pedagogues choose to apply the brief model. My questions are following: What are the benefits with the short acclimatization model? How do the pedagogues experience the parents participation during the acclimatization? How are the flexibility on the number of days wich the acclimatization is calculate to go on? When I was studing the results of my intervjues I come to the conclusion that having a good relationship with the parents is very important. Childrens security and needs, and the pedagogues responsibility are all parts of eachother and have to exist because the acclimatization of the children are going to be as good as possible.

Vårdande : En begreppsanalys

Ebbinghaus, Christine, Jakobsson, Helena January 2019 (has links)
Background: The Swedish concept vårdande, which in English translates to both caring and nursing, is a common notion within the nursing profession and the Caring Sciences. However, it is often somewhat unclear what the concept entails, as the definitions are many and often vary in content. Laws and defining guidelines establish how the nurse ought to act with vårdande in mind. In Watson’s Caritas Processes the approach of the nurse is described as a loving, empathic ability and genuine presence. In accordance with earlier scientific research, the concept is of great importance and should possess a clearer definition. Aim: To clarify the concept vårdande within the nursing profession. Method: A concept analytical method by Walker and Avant. Result: There are many definitions and synonyms to vårdande in lexicons and thesauruses. In scientific articles and literature, the concept is highlighted from the perspective of a nurse or patient. The definition of vårdande is finally displayed in four different attributes: to interact, to recognize the complete person, to address physiological needs, and to shield. All these attributes are needed to describe the signification of vårdande, which are displayed in the shape of three fictional stories. Conclusion: This thesis has resulted in a deeper and more defined understanding of the concept of vårdande. It has contributed with an essential applicable approach for nurses, and other factors which are of importance in relation to encountering patients. Alleviation of suffering emerged as a consequence of vårdandet, displaying its significance.

A Library of Emotions

Doert, Jillian Elizabeth 26 August 2008 (has links)
This thesis is an investigation into the impact of design elements on human behavior as explored through the design of a library. A library was chosen for its role in the community and because of the diverse group of users a library affects. A library, defined as a collection of things, is also a metaphor for the role memory plays in determining the emotive response a person has to their surroundings. Memory acts as collection of internal associations and, when engaged through sensory experience, memory dictates an emotional reaction to a space based on previous experiences. This project is a discovery of how to engage the senses and the memory in order to evoke an emotive response. / Master of Architecture

Social Network Sites and Tourism : A millennial perspective

Henriksson, Amanda, Engström, Lina January 2019 (has links)
Social Network Sites have rapidly become intertwined with people’s core habits of daily life, and are often subliminal inputs during decision making processes when it comes to the area of Tourism. With this rapid shift in consumer opportunities, both in availability and exposure to information, people are faced with the challenge of accurately assessing current trends in order to best predict future outcomes for businesses and consumers alike. Although there is existing literature examining current tendencies for Social Network Sites and Tourism, the extrapolation of this data in a feasible way for the emerging Millennial generation is lacking. This is integral to forming a proper understanding of the future trends of global tourist communication as dictated by the usage of Social Network Sites. Through the use of interview discussions centered on two focus groups of an all Millennial composition, the semi-structured interview approach was used. This to sought at a fundamental level to provide a better understanding of how Social Network Sites are used by tourists. Of particular focus within the research process was the specifics of tourist utilization of Social Network Sites. Further addressed, is the concept of the usage of electronic Word of Mouth and how this has allowed for a modification to the experience of tourism. The spoken word has been updated to an electronic Word of Mouth, and with it the Millennial generation has been raised into a world of information opportunity like none ever before. Understanding these trends allows for continued progression for both the consumer and business alike within the tourist business.

Genom skugga och sten / Through Shadow and Stone

Serin, Kerstin January 2013 (has links)
Through Shadow and Stone is a project based on a personal experience in Ribersborg and resulted in a group of light objects where textile and light interact to create an atmosphere for a public space. The project is focused on how shadows can have an effect on the feeling in a room and how to use the technique of tricotin order to create this. Color and shape are two elements that is important in this project. / Program: Textildesignutbildningen

Improved Use of Interact to Decrease 30-Day Readmissions from a Skilled Nursing Facility

Adewunmi, Folasade Omobowale 01 January 2019 (has links)
Background: The rising cost of health care in relation to rehospitalizations continues to be a challenge. Medicare 30-day readmissions have an annual estimated cost of $17.4 billion. Irrespective of these costs and the continued improvement in the quality of care, skilled nursing facilities (SNF) still face high readmission rates. Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to enhance SNF care processes by improving the utilization of the electronic medical record software program “INTERACT” to increase early identification and treatments of patients to minimize 30-day hospital readmissions. Theoretical Framework: The theory of planned behavior by Icek Azjen was used. Methods: Project design: This project used a pretest and posttest design to assess for improvement in the use of the INTERACT tools and increased nursing proficiency after participating in a 45-minute INTERACT training session. A 60-day retrospective and prospective rehospitalization rates data were also compared. Results: After the training, there was a statistically significant improvement in the number of nurses using the INTERACT tool. The two-tailed paired sample t-test result showed a significant difference in the use of the INTERACT clinical decision support tools: Pretest (M = 2.08, SD = 0.88) and posttest (M = 1.33, SD = 0.63), t(23) = 3.30, p = .003. There was no statistical difference in the proficiency of nurses post the training. This result is associated to probable data loss and/or limited time for data collection. Although a 15% decrease in SNFs rehospitalizations rates was noted, there is no direct causative explanation that increased nurses use of the tool significantly contributed to the reduction in rehospitalization rates among other factors. Conclusion: The INTERACT program has contributed by improving early identification and treatment of patients and facilitated improved patient outcomes and nursing care processes. It is assumed that as nurses begin to build up their use of the INTERACT support tools, this tool will result in an increase in proficiency, which will increase responsiveness to change in condition and a corresponding decrease in avoidable rehospitalizations.
