Mei, Wu Xiao 28 August 2007 (has links)
Submitted by Marcelo Teixeira (mvteixeira@ucs.br) on 2014-05-19T17:18:51Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Wu Xiao Mei.pdf: 580394 bytes, checksum: 1edd005d606cf044d01baf39b301f3c7 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2014-05-19T17:18:51Z (GMT). Twenty-two discourse excerpts, collected during three months, were analyzed in the interactional sociolinguistics approach (GOFFMAN, 2002; BLOM; GUMPERZ, 2002; TANNEN; WALLAT, 2002; AUER, 1955, 1999). The excerpts were grouped in four categories: information technology, culture, emotional role and functional role. A fifth set of excerpts was analyzed in what refers to the interference of Chinese on Portuguese in code-switching. The analysis showed that code-switching, circumscribed to topics and expressive needs related to technology, cultural differences, expression of emotions, functional uses, is a cue to the framing of interactional events in the Brazilian scene, but still in an eastern perspective. This state of affairs is reflected in the structure of alternated sequences in Portuguese, in which Chinese structural features are strong.

Sociointeração discursiva na pré-escola de Ivoti (RS)

Backes, Noeli Maria LazarettI 05 August 2008 (has links)
Submitted by Marcelo Teixeira (mvteixeira@ucs.br) on 2014-05-21T16:30:00Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Noeli M L Backes.pdf: 800557 bytes, checksum: 2a4d77f3a1d57ac2c2205c5f0e4a16fb (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2014-05-21T16:30:00Z (GMT). Data collected in two schools are analyzed. One of the schools is located in the urban area and the parents of its students come mostly from other cities. The other school is located in the rural area and most of its students are German descendants. The work is developed in the perspective of Interactional Sociolinguistics. The analysis of excerpts of conversation in different school activities was carried out following the stages proposed by Pomerantz and Fehr (1997). The analysis showed that in the urbane area talk is ritualized and centralized in the speech of the teacher. In the rural context, the interactants build divergent meanings based on different background knowledge. It is not the interference of the German dialect children speak at home which interferes in language understanding in pre-schooL.

Pratiques langagières intergénérationnelles : le cas de familles transnationales plurilingues (Antioche, Île-de-France, Berlin) / Intergenerational language practices : the case of multilingual and transnational families (Antioch, Paris & Berlin)

Istanbullu, Suat 07 December 2017 (has links)
Along with many French studies on migrant families’ multilingualism and international studies on family language policy, this thesis deals with intergenerational language practices within transnational families. The linguistic repertoire of these families living in Paris, Berlin or Antioch in South Turkey, where the oldest members were born, includes Arabic, Turkish, French or German. Drawing on a multisited ethnography with 13 families and 100 members interviewed, along with quantitative and interactional analysis of four corpora collected in two families in Paris and in Berlin, notions of language shift, transmission and agentivity are discussed. In this context where all the participants present different profiles and show varying resources in the languages used, we observe the use of all languages. Arabic is being used in particular by the youngest thanks to the phenomena of alignment by the oldest to the linguistic choices they initiate in the interaction. Turkish, in contrast, is more used in multilingual turns. The help of family members together with rewording and translating, fosters the role of goodwill between adults and the youngest family members, which enables the intergenerational communication and the use of heritage languages. This thesis is a contribution to the description of family language practices, approaches transnational families’ language policy, allows the documentation of Antiochian Arabic and contributes to the analysis of the trilingual heterogeneous corpora.

This work is inserted in the panorama of Applied Linguistics of professions (Sarangi, 2006), looking beyond the academic setting of the universities and establish contact to the study of language and professional environments. We focus on the legal profession and the mediator. In this sense, we undertook our study of qualitative and interpretive, based on data mediation endoprocessual, generated in a family court of the state of Rio de Janeiro. In our research, we've had the colaboration of the mediator in the case discussion and interpretation of data which gives a collaborative nature (Sarangi, 2001) to work. As the research method chosen, use the case study through which we base our analysis on detailed investigations of a phenomenon in a specific setting. Given this institutional context, we seek to map and describe the actions of assessment of mediator, since the juridical manuals postulate that the mediator should be a neutral and impartial and should not manipulate the argumentation (Salles, 2004). However, looking at mediation real data, we find actions of assessments (Goodwin and Goodwin, 1987) of the mediator, which, strictly speaking no "should" occur, because it involves give an opinion or value judgments. (Linde, 2007). Finally, our work has a talk-in-interaction perspective which has, in turns of talk and on the transcripts, the analytical basis to talk about the behavior of the mediator.

”Alla får vara med och leka” - eller? : En studie om barns ”fria lek” i förskolan

Lundqvist, Johanna, Gustafsson, Sandra January 2017 (has links)
In this study we analyse children's play and what access rules children use when they enter an ongoing play. The study also shows, through observations, how children can exclude each other from being part of the play. We have analysed how educators work with and how they relate to children's play and exclusion, also what their previous experience in the subject is. The study has its theoretical basis in Honneths moral theory and the development of educational perspective that Pramling Samuelsson & Asplund Carlsson describes. The study adopted a qualitative approach. Our analysis is based on observations where children are not allowed to enter the ongoing play due to different factors. The play is seen as a central and important part of the children's every day activity at preschool and contains several furtherance dimensions in their development. The educators approach and thoughts are presented and analysed with the interview that has been done. The study results show that children master many access strategies, and use them frequently. Children's exclusions are often related to the ongoing play and its content where children protect their interaction space in the fear that their play will be ruined. In our interview responses, it appears that educators have the tools to promote and work with children's relationship creation, but that it is complex and often contextual. It appears that the work on the friendship culture at preschool contains many challenges and that it is something that has to be constantly worked with.

Understanding the Relationship between Informal Interactional Diversity and Males’ Engagement in the Undergraduate Experience

Cutchens, Amanda 01 November 2017 (has links)
The diversity of the undergraduate student population encourages understanding of others and provides opportunities for students to challenge their assumptions of cultures, political and religious views, values, and personal backgrounds. However, it also creates challenges for academic and student success as faculty and administrators struggle to meet different generational and cultural needs. A broader, more inclusive definition of student success may help meet the needs of a more modern complex institutional student demographic. It may also allow for new avenues of research specifically related to success for Black, Hispanic, and White undergraduate male students, as these students continue to struggle in higher education (Bailey & Moore, 2004; Barker & Avery, 2012; Conger & Long, 2010; Harper, 2006b; Harper & Kuykendall, 2012; Kuh & Love, 2000; Kuh et al., 2007; Sax & Arms, 2006; Sax & Harper, 2007; Spruhill, Hirt, & Mo, 2014; Strayhorn, 2010a; Sutton & Kimbrough, 2001). Meanwhile, the concept of globalization and global citizenship are being integrated into higher education at many levels in both academic and student affairs. Many institutions are integrating these concepts into policies and programs, which provide opportunities for diverse interactions, conversations, and experiences. Informal interactional diversity, which is defined as “the opportunity to interact with students from diverse backgrounds in the broad, campus environment” (Gruin, 1999, para. 4), is a concept related to globalization and global citizenship, but not much research exists to show how it might impact student success. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to further explore informal interactional diversity in Black, Hispanic, and White undergraduate males and its possible relationship to the multi-faceted nature of student engagement. The resulting framework for this study was built around Tinto’s (1993) theory of social integration, Astin’s (1993a) theory of student involvement, and persistence research by Pascarella and Terenzini (1991) because these models highlighted important environmental factors that informed research on informal interactional diversity. In this quantitative study, the researcher utilized a purposeful, national sample of secondary data from the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) to analyze levels of informal interactional diversity in Black, Hispanic, and White undergraduate men. The sample included 3,613 Black, Hispanic, and White undergraduate men who were enrolled at five participating large, public predominantly White institutions (PWIs) in the United States and completed the survey with an appended Experiences with Diverse Perspectives topical module in 2013 and 2014. The majority of the males in the sample were White and classified as seniors, or fourth-year undergraduate students (n = 1,830). Statistical analyses, such analysis of variances (ANOVAs) and multiple regressions tests, were conducted to examine the relationships between variables (informal interactional diversity, classification in college, and student engagement). Results of the analysis indicated the relationships between informal interactional diversity, male ethnic group, and student engagement were statistically significant. Additionally, findings indicated there was a significant relationship between levels of informal interactional diversity and classification in college, as well as classification in college and male ethnic group. Implications for future research based on the findings of this study included: a) investigating how reflective and integrative learning, as well as supportive environment, affect engagement for the undergraduate male populations studied; b) examining why decreases in qualitative reasoning, effective teaching practices, and collaborative learning occur for these undergraduate male populations; c) investigating these variables using samples of participants at different types of institutions; and d) conducting a mixed-methods study with a qualitative portion, or a purely qualitative study, focused on male student perceptions of informal interactional diversity, student engagement, and campus climate or race relations at PWIs to gain more insight on the lived experience of Black, Hispanic, and White males. The conclusion of this research study was that the findings support much of the literature related to informal interactional diversity, as well as the success of Black, Hispanic, and White males.

Stratégies pour l'emploi des personnes handicapées : construction du handicap dans les discours d'une entreprise / Strategies for the employment of people with disabilities : the contruction of disability in a company's discourses

Charles-Fontaine, Céline 15 May 2009 (has links)
This analysis of strategies used by a company in the employment of disabled persons is the product of fours years of observation, undertaken as part of a company-university doctoral partnership [“CIFRE” contract]. Our study is based on interactional data and documents produced by company’s activities (communication mediums, e-mails, meetings notes, etc...). Our work falls within the boundaries of interactional linguistics, with a specific focus on how companies define disability. We were able to analyze a series of descriptive practices of disability in the context of meetings (for the preparation of internal communication, to inform and raise awareness among personnel) and though documents produced to implement an employment policy for persons with disabilities. These practices reveal ways of describing disability that greatly differ from ordinary practices, which often treat disability as a stigma. Indeed, company practices seek to present disability as a resource, in order to convincingly convey the benefits of employing disabled persons (management and financial gains, etc.). The descriptions produced are constitutive of a knowledge about disability, unique to the company’s context, and which make visible to the analyst both the processes of categorization of disabled persons as well as presumptive knowledge concerning this category. The analysis of practices observed allowed us to design a document to inform and raise awareness about the implementation of an employment policy concerning people with disabilities.

Bemötandet inom socialtjänsten : En kvalitativ studie om klienters upplevelser

Välijeesiö, Maria, Eriksson, Anna-Lena January 2010 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine how clients who have or have previously had a drug- and/or alcohol addiction experienced interchanges with social workers. In this study, eight semi-structured interviews were made with respondents from an out-patient clinic in a small town in Sweden. Questions were asked regarding clients’ experience of the social workers' attitudes during the initial meeting as well as all continuing meetings. Other possible variables that affected the interchanges, either positively or negatively, including how the clients wanted to be treated, were also explored. Theories used in the interpretation of the results were power and an interactional perspective. The power at the social bureau is unevenly dispensed in favor of the social worker and they should use that power in a non-offending way. Good communication is essential to avoid misconceptions and to make the interaction work well between social workers and clients. The results showed that concepts such as being listened to, mutual trust between client and social worker, and that the clients felt respected, were all important. Aspects that had a negative effect were mistrust from the social worker, lack in professionalism as well as the clients’ attitudes. Most respondents were satisfied with the way they were being treated.

Interactional Patterns in Families of Patients with Breast Cancer

Bailey, A. Kathleen (Ann Kathleen) 08 1900 (has links)
This study utilized ethnographic methodology to describe the communicative interactional patterns in families with a member who has breast cancer. Three breast cancer patients whose families were between the adolescent and launching of children developmental lifestage (McGoldrick & Carter, 1982) were chosen for the study. Data were collected from a series of three interview sessions over a period of four weeks with a two week time lapse between each of the interview sessions. Interview sessions were conducted in the families' homes by the researcher. All interviews were video and audio tape recorded for the purpose of preserving data for transcribing and coding. Research questions examined individual perception of meaning in regard to the disease, the structure and organization of the family in relation to the illness, and the effects of family communicative interaction on the course and management of the disease. Findings indicated that family members' responses to the diagnosis of "breast cancer were influenced by multi-generational "beliefs. All three families formulated a collective belief which supported the mother's belief about the disease. Each of the three families were mother-centered, and each mother seemed to use a metacommunicative approach to mediating family transactions. Each of the three fathers were reported as having been isolated and withdrawn within the family at various times. However, each father appeared to play a protective role in deflecting tension and stress away from the mother. All three couples appeared to have constructed an egalitarian relationship with an implicit agreement as to who was more skilled to hold the power within a particular context. In all three families, the generational boundaries were clearly defined. Conflict and affect were most generally expressed in an indirect manner through wit and sarcasm. However, because each of these three families were structured to allow for personal autonomous functioning of each individual member, patients were supported in seeking a modality outside of the family system to express more ambivalent feelings.
