Studie MVE v rámci plavebního stupně Přelouč II / Feasibility study of a small hydropower station within the navigation lock Přelouč II

Bolek, Marek January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this dissertation is to prepare a study of a small hydroelectric power plant as part of the Přelouč navigation level II. The preparation deals with one of the possible variants for the layout design of given constructions. The layout design of a weir with an adjacent lock chamber which secures navigability for the stretch of the Elbe River located between the river kilometers 949,23 and 951,20 near the city of Přelouč in the Pardubice District is also included in the study. The introduction chapter contains the assessment of the environment, which is followed by the specification of the exact placement of the constructions. In the following chapter, a particular type of the hydroelectric power plant machinery is designed based on the available hydrological information and gradient conditions. The final chapter contains the design of the constructional technological layout of an machine room in the form of a technical report and drawing documentation.

STATISTICAL MODELS AND ANALYSIS OF GROWTH PROCESSES IN BIOLOGICAL TISSUE

Xia, Jun 15 December 2016 (has links)
The mechanisms that control growth processes in biology tissues have attracted continuous research interest despite their complexity. With the emergence of big data experimental approaches there is an urgent need to develop statistical and computational models to fit the experimental data and that can be used to make predictions to guide future research. In this work we apply statistical methods on growth process of different biological tissues, focusing on development of neuron dendrites and tumor cells. We first examine the neuron cell growth process, which has implications in neural tissue regenerations, by using a computational model with uniform branching probability and a maximum overall length constraint. One crucial outcome is that we can relate the parameter fits from our model to real data from our experimental collaborators, in order to examine the usefulness of our model under different biological conditions. Our methods can now directly compare branching probabilities of different experimental conditions and provide confidence intervals for these population-level measures. In addition, we have obtained analytical results that show that the underlying probability distribution for this process follows a geometrical progression increase at nearby distances and an approximately geometrical series decrease for far away regions, which can be used to estimate the spatial location of the maximum of the probability distribution. This result is important, since we would expect maximum number of dendrites in this region; this estimate is related to the probability of success for finding a neural target at that distance during a blind search. We then examined tumor growth processes which have similar evolutional evolution in the sense that they have an initial rapid growth that eventually becomes limited by the resource constraint. For the tumor cells evolution, we found an exponential growth model best describes the experimental data, based on the accuracy and robustness of models. Furthermore, we incorporated this growth rate model into logistic regression models that predict the growth rate of each patient with biomarkers; this formulation can be very useful for clinical trials. Overall, this study aimed to assess the molecular and clinic pathological determinants of breast cancer (BC) growth rate in vivo.

Ce ne sont que des corps ; suivi de L'idéal de l'androgynie dans le réservoir des sens de Nelly Kaplan

Sabourin, Geneviève 08 1900 (has links)
This M.A. thesis combining research and creative writing explores the concepts of hybrid identity and the desire to escape standard expectations. In the novel Ce ne sont que des corps, two strangers are alternately sharing significant events of the past few months, while waiting for the train. Emmanuel, twenty-five, fall in love for Michelle, a strong-minded woman in her fifties, which he met in a bar. Michelle wants to fulfill some of her fantasies and Emmanuel decides to play along with the game until it turns sour. As for Alex, a young twenty something woman who left her village to study in Montreal, she falls in love with Gabriel, an aspiring musician for whom she is ready to give everything up. Each of the characters in this novel blurs sexual identities and gender. Furthermore, the essay explores the way Nelly Kaplan manipulates the sexuality and gender of her protagonists to suggest an “androgynous poetry” in some of the compendium’s Le reservoir des sens short stories. The essay bring forth knowledge from studies on irony, surrealist poetic, gender as well as intertextuality to underline how the author blurs sexual identity and gender.

Duchovní péče v nemocnicích. Dosavadní praxe, zkušenosti a očekávání na příkladu vybraných pražských nemocnic / The Hospital Spiritual Care. Existing Practice, Experience and Expectations Illustrated by Examples of Chosen Prague Hospitals

Plačková, Marie January 2013 (has links)
The main goal of this diploma thesis is to reflect the hospital spiritual care in Czech Republic nowadays and to compare it with its beginnings. The theoretical part maintains holistic approach to human being and emphasizes spiritual needs as a basis for hospital spiritual care. It also gives an overview of recent forms of hospital spiritual care in Czech Republic. The research part examines the patients' opinions and experience of spiritual care during their stay in hospitals. Questionnaire-based survey was done in seven Prague hospitals with 237 patients (96 of them used the chaplain service, 141 did not). The short interviews with Prague chaplains and patients regarding spiritual care complete the work. Research findings result in non-answered (and maybe non-answerable) questions: Can hospital chaplains quit their church membership and affiliation and not to serve to the church evangelization Mission? Is it possible to be "a spiritual, but non religious" chaplain and not to lose the chaplain identity? Is it - in general - possible to distinguish "spirituality" from "religiosity"?

Komunikace duchovního s věřícími v krizových situacích / Communication between Clergy and Communicants in crisis situations

Vacková, Lucie Isabela January 2011 (has links)
Summary: Komunikace duchovního s věřícími v krizových situacích Communication between Clergy and Communicants in crisis Lucie Isabela Vacková This thesis entitled Communication between Clergy and Communicants in crisis focuses on the work of hospital chaplains. At the beginning, there is a description of basic terms such as communication, priest and crisis. Furthermore, the thesis discusses the pastoral care with regard for the ill and dying ones. In particular chapters biblical and psychological view of illness, dying and death are introduced. In the Chapter Pastoral Care I describe the main goals of care, the history of charity in term of the Christian Church, the main method of pastoral care- conversation and the current situation in the area of care in hospitals in the Czech Republic. The research was conducted in hospital in Chrudim on the department of long-term care. The research`s objective was to determine how the patients percieve the pastoral care, what they expect from the pastoral care and whether they would personally use this care. Pastoral care in hospitals in the Czech Republic is still being shaped up. People often worry that a priest will try to persuade them to believe, if they use his services. Therefore, they are rather indifferent to this care, sometimes aggressively refusing. The...

First, the birth, mortality and turnover of companies are quantified, as well as their survival over time. Then, these demographic events are analyzed by size, economic activity, and geographic location. For this purpose, an identified database is used, which allows the longitudinal monitoring of all formal companies existing in Rio Grande do Sul over the period under study. (Ensaio II) This paper proposes an empirical research on the survival of the companies of Rio Grande do Sul State for the period 2007-2013. The Kaplan-Meier procedure is applied to obtain the functions of survival of the companies, according to the geographic location, the economic activity and the size. Then, the Cox procedure is applied, in order to determine the effect of the size of the companies on the survival time. The results obtained show that survival is relatively higher: in the companies with the largest number of employed persons; in the manufacturing industry and financial activities; and located in the Northeast region of Rio Grande do Sul state. (Ensaio III) The objective of this paper is to analyze the birth of companies in the counties of Rio Grande do Sul State between 2007 and 2013. For this, exploratory analysis of spatial data and the panel data regression are used. The results indicated the existence of spatial autocorrelation of the birth of companies and the formation of some clusters of the counties with high births of companies. The spatial auto regression (SAR) model evidenced the spillover effect of the birth of companies and made it possible to measure the direct and indirect impacts of the independent variables on the birth of companies. Time to Diagnosis of Second Primary Cancers among Patients with Breast Cancer

Irobi, Edward Okezie 01 January 2016 (has links)
Many breast cancer diagnoses and second cancers are associated with BRCA gene mutations. Early detection of cancer is necessary to improve health outcomes, particularly with second cancers. Little is known about the influence of risk factors on time to diagnosis of second primary cancers after diagnosis with BRCA-related breast cancer. The purpose of this cohort study was to examine the risk of diagnosis of second primary cancers among women diagnosed with breast cancer after adjusting for BRCA status, age, and ethnicity. The study was guided by the empirical evidence supporting the mechanism of action in the mutation of BRCA leading to the development of cancer. Composite endpoint was used to define second primary cancer occurrences, and Kaplan-Meier survival curves were used to compare the median time-to-event among comparison groups and BRCA gene mutation status. Cox proportional hazards was used to examine the relationships between age at diagnosis, ethnicity, BRCA gene mutation status, and diagnosis of a second primary cancer. The overall median time to event for diagnosis of second primary cancers was 14 years. The hazard ratios for BRCA2 = 1.47, 95% CI [1.03 - 2.11], White = 1.511, 95% CI [1.18 - 1.94], and American Indian/Hawaiian = 1.424, 95% CI [1.12 -1.81] showing positive significant associations between BRCA2 mutation status and risk of diagnosis of second primary colorectal, endometrial, cervical, kidney, thyroid, and bladder cancers. Data on risk factors for development of second cancers would allow for identification of appropriate and timely screening procedures, determining the best course of action for prevention and treatment, and improving quality of life among breast cancer survivors.
