From educational culture to metalinguistic culture. The contextualization of the description of French in grammatical discourse in Turkey. / Eğitim anlayışından dil ötesi algıya. Fransızca dil bilgisi söyleminin Türkiye bağlamına uyarlanması.

Eren, Ebru 06 November 2015 (has links)
After having studied the impact of educational culture on French teaching (2012, J.-C. Beacco), we concluded that teaching methods applied in Turkey are mostly based on grammar. This tendency reflects the educational culture of this country. The present research focuses on the contextualization of French grammar in reference books which were written by and for Turkish-speaking people (Project of GRAC).French reference books written in Turkey contain a number of “contextualization”, resulting from educational and metalinguistic culture of Turkish students learning French. Therefore, they differed from the French edition of French grammar. For this purpose, the French grammatical discourse was analyzed in many aspects: the articles which cause the change of terms; the gender of nouns which does not exist in Turkish introduces a new grammatical classification and the grammatical cases which result in the creation of equivalent rules. A cyber-survey was prepared to find out the contextualization of the frequent errors in French in high school and university area in Turkey. All the research, showed that these discourses were modulated by the educational and metalinguistic culture. Moreover, we demonstrated that the “off-center” Turkish edition of French grammar books need to be standardized to the “central norm” of the French edition.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Waldemar dos Santos Cardoso Junior.pdf: 3843817 bytes, checksum: 5cbcde3d8ab0354540ffdc8a9a9c5f5a (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-12-04 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The rural education teachers who work in multigraded classes have to face great challenges, especially when they alphabetize children. The objectives of the present work included: learning about those teachers; describing the teaching-learning difficulties regarding written language in the initial grades; discussing the ways of alphabetizing and the projections for the teachers efficient work; analyzing the teachers comments under the approach of the relation between metalinguistic abilities and learning of written language. The research involved a group of 74 rural education teachers who work in multigraded classes in a small town named Breves in the state of Pará. The data were collected through a questionnaire containing 24 open and closed questions based on the objectives of the present study. The data analysis procedure was based on the content analysis approach. The results showed that most teachers are 31 to 50-year-old women who are graduate in teacher education and work part time; they have had 1 to 10 years experience in alphabetization and in rural education. Some difficulties were found regarding the challenge of alphabetizing children: an operational difficulty involving work in multigraded classes, lack of didactic resources, lack of school transportation and adequate room, lack of professionals for school maintenance, and other difficulties related to alphabetization practice. It was observed that most teachers do not have a specific theoretical approach to teach how to read and write. In general, they do not mention activities related to the development of metalinguistic abilities as a facilitation tool for the teaching of written language. However, they try to create several didactic resources and have great motivation to work in that reality despite all setbacks / Os professores de classes multisseriadas da educação do campo enfrentam grandes desafios, inclusive no momento de alfabetizar seus alunos.

The effects of formative feedback : A quantitative study of the effects of formative feedback on written proficiency in the Swedish upper secondary school L2 writing classroom

Skarp, Eddie January 2018 (has links)
This independent degree project investigates how formative feedback on written assignments affect Swedish upper secondary school pupils’ writing skills regarding form, what the effects are, and if the effects are the same for pupils in different ability bands. This was done by a time series analysis of tests where a collection of texts from pupils in different ability bands (E, C, and A) in two different classes was collected. All errors in the texts were counted and categorised, as well with the teachers’ highlighted errors on the pupils’ texts. The errors were further calculated into number of errors per 100 words due to different lengths of the texts. The results showed that there was a somewhat positive effect of the teachers’ feedback overall, and that pupils in lower ability bands processed feedback more effectively than pupils in higher ability bands. However, the results also suggested that in order to fully draw conclusions such as these, a statistical study is necessary to strengthen the results due to the low numbers in the results. The pedagogical implications found showed that teachers need to work differently with feedback for high-grade pupils. In order to do so, teacher education programs must emphasise this and address to teachers how to do this.

Effets de l’introduction d’une approche plurielle fondée sur des langues inconnues sur le système didactique : des éléments de cadrage à la mise en place expérimentale en classe d’anglais au collège / Effects of the introduction of a pluralist approach based upon unknown languages on the didactic system : from framework to experimental implementation in English class at lower secondary school

Dahm, Rebecca 07 November 2013 (has links)
This doctoral research work is embedded in the field of language didactics and is equally based on the linguistics and cognitive theoretical fields. Its main goal is to study the introduction of pluralistic approaches based on unknown languages (PAUL) within the English class, at lower secondary school. It seeks to understand the effects of such a change of knowledge on the actors of the pedagogical relationship (student and teacher). A quasi-experiment was conducted in 2011-2012 in five year 7 and four year 9 forms. Students, in groups of four, were successively confronted to three unknown languages (Dutch, Italian and Finnish). They were asked to solve metasemantic, metasyntactic or metaphonological problems in turn, for each of these languages. This doctoral work first explores the institutional and theoretical framework. Then, it presents the methodological framework so as to be able to analyze the effects of the change of the knowledge parameter which has become multilingual, both on the students and the teachers. When looking into the effects of PAUL on the Knowledge-Teacher relationship, we observe that it enables teachers to better apprehend concepts such as problem-solving, conceptualisation, learning strategies and competence. The didactic transposition is hence modified: teachers have gradually been led to develop teaching sequences with higher standards giving more space to the student. The study of the Teacher-Student relationship highlights a change in practice, mainly due to the implementation of group work. The role of the teacher is then revised: he becomes a facilitator of the collaborative learning. Finally, the analysis of the Knowledge-Student relationship underlines the necessary awareness that leads to the development of multilingual competences through the implementation of learning strategies which appear to be transferable to the study of L2.

Grammar in the English Language Classroom : Teachers’ perspectives on grammar knowledge and instruction / Grammatik i det engelskspråkiga klassrummet : Lärares perspektiv om grammatikkunskap och undervisning

Papalexi, Stavroula January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this work is to examine the teaching methods secondary and upper secondary teachers apply to teach grammar in the EFL classroom, as well as their perceptions about the benefits of having grammar knowledge and its benefits to students’ writing. Previous research reveals that grammar teaching is an integral part of language teaching; explicit and implicit methods along with deductive and inductive instruction are the main practices teachers use to transfer knowledge to their students. Apart from that, it is beneficial when teachers have good grammarknowledge; hence students can develop good metalinguistic awareness and writing ability. The theoretical framework is based on teacher cognition theory, as teachers’ personal experiences and knowledge affect their decisions about grammar practices in the classroom environment. A qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews with six secondary and upper secondary teachers who teach English as a foreign language in different schools and municipalities in the whole of Sweden are used to conduct the current study. The results demonstrate that indeed grammar teaching is needed to teach a new language. However, factors such as age and type of groupinfluence teachers’ decisions. Above all else, teachers’ highest goal is to help students become good language users.

Étude de cas / From teaching practices in a bilingual context to instructor training. A convergent perspective : Primary schools in the Agency for French Education Abroad network in Latin America.

Uribe, Laura 30 November 2015 (has links)
This investigative work is part of the theoretical field of language instruction and bilingualism. Its purpose is the study of, and the reflection upon the harmonization of teaching practices in two primary schools belonging to the network of the Agency for French Instruction Abroad (AEFE) in Latin America: one in Santiago, Chili, and the other in La Paz, Bolivia. After a certain point in its development, this study extends to other schools in the AEFE network located in Latin America. The interlanguage of young learners is the matrix for this theorization work. A large part of the dissertation is dedicated to analyzing linguistic interactions in French class, Spanish class and bilingual class in order to grasp the pedagogical means used by instructors to deal with language features and in particular, inherent linguistic interferences. This analysis deals closely with the dynamics of articulation between the national language and the french language in daily classroom practices. This investigation uses theoretical reflections and field experiments to examine the taking into account of certain didactic parameters needed to implement a convergent instruction curriculum, on the one hand, and the conceptualization and implementation of an instructor training curriculum in convergent didactics, on the other hand.
