Approche comparée de la nuit (et du jour) dans le texte de Maurice Blanchot et Leopold Sedar Senghor / Comparative approach of the night (and the day) in the text of Maurice Blanchot and Leopold Sedar Senghor

Bibang Bi-Nguema, Claver 05 June 2010 (has links)
"Comparison is not reason." Pamphlet made famous by Rene Etiemble in 1963, which today, has aplace in all attempts of poetry comparison. This thesis tries to go beyond the theoretical limitation without losing sight of the relevance and pertinence that it is supposed by.Maurice Blanchot and Léopold Sédar Senghor. Two authors that differ in every respect. The first, influenced by European culture in order to produce a piece of work marked by heuristic difference, infinite boredom, and an endless discretion of a topic that will eventually disappear. The Second, an African academic that wrote collections of poems and essays on Socialism and the Negro-African Aesthetics. Nothing boded any meeting between these two writers. They have in common the poetics of the Night, a thematic expression that structures this work. Blanchot and Senghor are far from the traditional modes of reason. One wrote fragments of fiction and narratives marked by sayings and iconoclastic critical texts. The other had cast suspicion on radical discursive reason and geometric thinking. Night is the place of these hermeneutic reversals . From an open approach, the thesis is re-evaluating the standard tools of readable literary texts, trying to answer three cardinal questions: Why and how do Blanchot and Senghor use night in their work ? What are the discontinuities that lie in this strange and dark region? Moreover, How to overcome the absence of effective exchanges, in order to approach the missing debates within in the works of these two authors? These are the main aspects that govern this research. To take the risk, a poetry section is called : the litery psychoanalysis, to capture the initial frustrations that are transformed in the day and melt the text in the night. The Mythocritique and its triangular form of analysis is used in order to observe the relationship between the mythical hero, the fictional (or poetic character) and the writer. Finally, Deconstruction is used, to monitor the theoretic receptacle which serves as the point of condensation of these asymmetries. Night appears as an operation to dismantle the institutions of knowledge, whilst stretching the literary language until the radical abolition of differences: inaccessibility of Otherness in Blanchot, intuitive rhythm heterogeneity, the other of reason in Senghor.

Omvårdnad inom ambulanssjukvården under olika delar av dygnet : En kvalitativ intervjustudie

Johansson, Anna-Josephine, Holmberg, Tilda January 2017 (has links)
Background: Nursing care should be conducted on an individual level with a focus on physical environment, social support and the patients own abilities. Ambulance staff should be able to give good care, both physical and mental, regardless preconditions and environment. The prehospital care is performed 24 hours a day. The nurse has a responsibility for ensuring that a health-promoting environment is maintained. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the ambulance care during different parts of the day. Method: This study has a qualitative approach. A total of eleven semi-structured interviews have been carried out with registered nurses and specialist nurses specializing in ambulance care active within the prehospital care. A qualitative content analysis has been used to analyze the collected material. Main result: The ambulance care was affected both positive and negative due to the time of the day it was performed. Two themes emerged from the result. The first was Perform good care and the second was Perform insufficient care. The first theme included that the ambulance care that was performed during day time and in the beginning of the shift was considered positive, while the second theme included ambulance care that was performed during night time and in the end of the shift was considered negative. Conclusion: During some parts of the day, ambulance staff perform inadequate care, which in turn can lead to patient safety risks. It is important that the ambulance staff provides good nursing 24 hours a day. This in order to maintain good patient safety and minimize potential risks to the patient.

A Performer's Guide to Works for Trumpet and Synthesizer by Meg Bowles

Siegel, Steven 01 January 2017 (has links)
The trumpet and electronics genre of music has been in existence since 1965. While various dissertations have discussed other composers and their works in this field, there is still a need for a treatise exploring appropriate performance practice for the electroacoustic trumpet music of Meg Bowles. There has been no study of the compositional process nor trumpet techniques required for performance of these works and other electronic compositions. This dissertation will study the compositions for trumpet and electronics by Bowles, develop strategies for performing these works, and explore compositional techniques used to create them. Interviews have been conducted between the author and composer (Meg Bowles), as well as the author and collaborating performer (David Bilger). In addition, existing interviews with the composer are included from journals and websites. This document is presented in two parts: Part I, “Introduction to Music for Trumpet and Electronics,” “Biography of Meg Bowles,” “Compositional Techniques,” “Night Sun Journey,” “Places Where Rivers Meet,” “Shapeshifter,” and “Twilight Embrace.” The second part of this dissertation contains materials which are pertinent to the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree and includes recital programs, program notes, and vita.

APPLICATION OF ASPHERICS FOR WEIGHT REDUCTION IN SELECTED CATADIOPTRIC LENSES

Buchroeder, Richard A. 07 1900 (has links)
QC 351 A7 no. 69 / The history of modern wide -field, high-speed catadioptric lenses is reviewed. One system comprising only spherical curves and representative of the current art for low-light-level systems is evaluated and used as a baseline design in a weight-reduction study. Five aspheric designs are computed and evaluated. It is found that the use of aspherics will permit weight reduction only in certain instances, i.e., if one element of an all-spherical design can be eliminated or if a fundamentally different configuration that is possible only with aspherics is substituted for the all-spherical configuration. Of these possibilities, the elimination of an element is the best replacement for the baseline design. The case of a highly constrained, purely refractive triplet is studied in some detail. Four designs are computed -from the all-spherical case to the most complex polynomial aspheric. It is found that, if only conic aspherics are employed, significant improvement can be obtained and the problems involved are sensibly the same as those in all-spherical designs. When complex aspherics are applied, the problem becomes surprisingly difficult, and there is some indication that a computer can deal with it better than can a human lens designer.

L’exemple de la France autour de 1900 / From the nocturnal imaginary to the night’s music. The example of France around 1900

Roger, Mathias 03 December 2011 (has links)
For human being, night is not only an astronomic phenomenon but it also nourishes its imagination of many fantasies and fears. For this reason, it remains a great source of inspiration for the artists, particularly in France around 1900, and the purpose of this thesis is then to find the traces of nocturnal phenomenon is night’s music of this period and beyond. What do night’s music keep of this peculiar night experience ? From a methodology inspired by the sciences of imaginary and a musical analysis of a dozen score of this period, this work examine notions such as shade and light, night in his relation to death or to the dimensions of time and space. It leads so to the understanding of certain analogies between night and his musical forms.

Fusion of images from dissimilar sensor systems

Chow, Khin Choong 12 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution in unlimited. / Different sensors exploit different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum; therefore, a multi-sensor image fusion system can take full advantage of the complementary capabilities of individual sensors in the suit; to produce information that cannot be obtained by viewing the images separately. In this thesis, a framework for the multiresolution fusion of the night vision devices and thermal infrared imagery is presented. It encompasses a wavelet-based approach that supports both pixel-level and region-based fusion, and aims to maximize scene content by incorporating spectral information from both the source images. In pixel-level fusion, source images are decomposed into different scales, and salient directional features are extracted and selectively fused together by comparing the corresponding wavelet coefficients. To increase the degree of subject relevance in the fusion process, a region-based approach which uses a multiresolution segmentation algorithm to partition the image domain at different scales is proposed. The region's characteristics are then determined and used to guide the fusion process. The experimental results obtained demonstrate the feasibility of the approach. Potential applications of this development include improvements in night piloting (navigation and target discrimination), law enforcement etc. / Civilian, Republic of Singapore

In Hiding…

Worden, Roderick 20 May 2011 (has links)
The conceptual foundation for my work lies in the idea of "interaction." I work towards exposing this idea in its more basic and routine form, as well as the broad scope of it. Ranging beyond the common associations made with human to human interaction, my work enters a number of realms including environmental, architectural, and intra-personal interactions, working amongst the subtleties of each. I seek to create an image of relate-able experience, thus I feel the medium of photography is necessitated, as it is rooted in the idea of documentary and realism, in effect, cataloguing images of or influenced by the outside world.

A whisper in the dark: a review of the critical and literary reception of Noite na Taverna, of Alvares de Azevedo.

Oliveira, Jefferson Donizeti de 18 August 2010 (has links)
The aim of this research is to review the critical and literary reception of Noite na Taverna, de Álvares de Azevedo. With that book, this romantic poet created a unique piece in brazilian letters, which enjoyed great popularity since 1855. For this, I list and comment on the most relevant critical studies on the work, further relates a series of \"emulation\" of the novel, produced under his inspiration and sharing the same macabre atmosphere and group spirit. Although their literary success, Noite na Taverna was not enough to create among us a great tradition of fantastic literature. It also point to inflows (albeit indirect) of horror literature in Brazilian Romanticism, provide a reflection on the reasons for the Gothic themes in the Alvares de Azevedo\'s aesthetic project.
