Sendo assim, cada vez mais se tornam necessários os estudos de questões relativas ao trabalho, tanto no que tange às suas contribuições com o desenvolvimento da sociedade, como os agravos que podem incorrer, entre outros, em problemas à saúde dos trabalhadores, sendo necessário compreender também a inserção e relação dos trabalhadores com seu trabalho. Para investigar estes aspectos no que tange ao trabalho no serviço público, foi realizada uma pesquisa quantitativa e qualitativa, de base teórico-metodológica na Psicologia Sócio-histórica, com o objetivo de conhecer significados de trabalho para servidores públicos técnico-administrativos de instituição de ensino superior. Os participantes da pesquisa são servidores de quatro unidades universitárias do câmpus de Botucatu. A coleta de dados foi realizada em duas etapas: a primeira com levantamento das características sociodemográficas da população e a segunda com aplicação de questionário elaborado pela pesquisadora, o qual foi respondido por 150 trabalhadores. Os entrevistados apresentaram uma concepção positiva do trabalho, em geral, e da posição de servidor público, em particular. Destacam-se como significados de ser servidor público satisfação, responsabilidade social, estabilidade, contribuição com a instituição para alcance de seus objetivos e aspectos de relacionamento no trabalho. Tais resultados sugerem diferença na posição destes servidores públicos comparando-se à situação geral dos trabalhadores no contexto sócio-econômico atual, podendo favorecer a preservação da saúde no trabalho. Therefore, studies about questions related to work are frequently required, in relation either with its contributions for societal development or with dangers leading to problems in workers' health, among other issues. It is also necessary to understand the presentation and relationship of workers in their work environment. In order to investigate these aspects related to work in public service, a quantitative and qualitative research was performed based on theoretical method approach in socio-historical Psychology. Its purpose was to know meanings of work for public administrative and technical employees of a higher education institution. Estratégias de coping em profissionais de uma instituição de privação de liberdade para adolescentes em conflito com a lei / Coping strategies among professional of a young offenders custody institutionRicardo Lopes Simoes 11 December 2012 (has links)
Pesquisas têm demonstrado a relação entre a atuação profissional em diversos setores com a incidência de estresse, identificando agentes estressores e mensurando atividades com maior prevalência de desenvolvimento de sintomas característicos dessa doença. Profissões que envolvem cuidado e/ou tutela de pessoas, como profissionais de saúde, professores e agentes prisionais, entre outras, estão entre as que apresentam maiores estatísticas de incidência de estresse. Este trabalho objetivou verificar a incidência de estresse e estratégias de enfrentamento (coping) em educadores sociais, profissionais que trabalham com adolescentes privados de liberdade pela prática de atos infracionais. Participaram 22 trabalhadores de um Centro de Socioeducação do Estado do Paraná, todos do sexo masculino e com idade entre 26 e 48 anos. Os instrumentos utilizados para coleta de dados foram: Inventário de Sintomas de Stress de Lipp (ISSL), Inventário de Estratégias de Coping de Folkman e Lazarus (IECFL), adaptação de Savóia (1996), e entrevista semiestrutura. Os inventários foram analisados por meio de estatística descritiva e as entrevistas utilizando o método de análise temática. Os resultados do ISSL apontaram elevado percentual (59%) de incidência de sintomas de estresse entre os participantes; os domínios do IECFL com maior frequência foram resolução de problemas, aceitação de responsabilidade e suporte social, e as menores frequências corresponderam aos domínios afastamento e confronto. A análise temática identificou um conjunto de categorias: exercício profissional e seus agentes estressores, como excesso de atribuições, a dupla responsabilidade de ressocializar e zelar pela segurança institucional, os conflitos nas relações entre servidores e com a instituição e a falta de perspectivas futuras no desempenho da função; relação institucional e os sentimentos de abandono e não desvalorização sentidos pelo grupo; percepção do processo de adoecimento, com identificação de sintomas de estresse; e estratégias de coping, com reconhecimento de ações de enfrentamento ao processo de estresse. Os resultados poderão contribuir para orientar intervenções de combate à incidência de estresse entre os servidores, com ações curativas e preventivas, além de possibilitar um reordenamento de questões institucionais aqui identificadas com agentes estressores, contribuindo para otimização dos recursos humanos e alcance de maior excelência na realização do trabalho. / Researches have showed a relation between professional activities in different sectors and incidence of stress, identifying stressors and measuring activities with higher prevalence of developing characteristics symptoms of this disease. Professions involving people care and/or guardianship, as health professionals, teachers and custody agents, and others, are among those that present higher statistics of stress. This work aimed at verifying the incidence of stress and coping strategies of social educators, professionals who work with adolescents in custody due criminal offences. 22 workers of a Centre of Alternative Measures of Parana State took place in research, all male aging between 26 and 48 years old. We used Lipp Stress Symptoms Inventory (ISSL), Folkman and Lazarus Coping Strategies Inventory (IECFL) and semi structured interview. The inventories were analyzed by descriptive statistics and interviews by thematic analysis method. Results of ISSL showed high percentage (59%) of stress symptoms incidence among participants; IECFL domains with high frequency were problem solving, acceptance of responsibility and social support, and low frequencies matched withdrawal and confrontation domains. Thematic analisys identified a set of categories: professional activities and its stressors, as excess of attributions, double responsibility on resocialize and ensure institutional safety, conflicts on public servants and institution relations and lack of future perspectives on job; institutional relationship and abandonment feelings and non-devaluation felt by the group; sickness process perception, with identification of stress symptoms; and coping strategies, with coping actions recognition on stress process. Results could contribute to guide interventions reducing the incidences of stress among servants, with healing and preventive actions, further on possible institutional issues reordering considering identified stressors, contributing to optimize human resources and higher excellence on job activities.

Thesis (D.Tech.-Teacher Education)--Cape Technikon / The maritime industry in South Africa (RSA) is relatively small in comparison with its agricultural
and mining industries. In its broadest sense it includes, but is not limited to.
• cargo handling and stevedoring;
• cargo logistics and administration;
• vessel owning and operating with its related industries, such as ships' agents and
surveyors and
• an array of fishing industries.
Maritime education and training in the RSA is fragmented and is offered by technikons (Higher
Education and Training Band), technical colleges and training centres (Further Higher Education
and Training Bands). Courses offered serve as preparation for Department of Education
(National and Provincial) and Department of Transport, Chief Directorate: Shipping (SADoT)
examinations.
Aspiring officers find it increasingly difficult to complete their experiential training owing to vessel
owners flagging-out (registering South African vessels under flags of convenience, e.g. Panama,
in a bid to save on operating costs). This implies that cheaper foreign crews may be recruited
resulting in an increased deficiency of skilled manpower.
The fishing quota system is being revised by the all-inclusive Fisheries Policy Development
Committee (FPDC) appointed by the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism. This
implies that learners from the previously disadvantaged maritime communities (mainly unskilled)
will imminently be allowed access to marine resources.
The heterogeneous composition of the class groups, with particular reference to
• academic qualification,
• age distribution,
• categories of fishing industries served,
• employer,
• mother tongue and
• sea-service,
exacerbated by the inadequate fixed time constraints of course durations, grossly violates the
didactic principle of individualisation.
For this reason, a didactically accountable instruction-learning programme for aspirant navigating
officers in the fishing industry was formulated in an attempt to remedy current shortcomings in
the Maritime Education and Training Development (METD) process. The outcomes based
instructional design encompassed the models utilized by Fraser et al (1994: 102) and Tanner &
Tanner (1995: 239) because it is vocationally directed and can accommodate the diversity of the
adult target group of adult learners.
The history and development of, as well as courses offered by, Maritime Education and Training
Providers (METP's) in the Western Cape Province, i.e.
• Cape Technikon's Department of Maritime Studies,
• industry in-house training establishments,
• Training Centre for Seamen and
• Wingfield Technical College
was outlined.
An analysis of similar courses offered by METP's abroad, such as
• Australian Maritime College,
• Canadian Fisheries and Marine Institute of the Memorial University of Newfoundland,
• Danish Maritime Authority,
• Manukau Polytechnic, New Zealand Maritime School,
• National Taiwan Ocean University of the Republic of China on Taiwan and
• the Republic of Namibia
was made.
An empirical investigation by means of questionnaires to vessel-owners and employee
representatives in the South African fishing industry were executed in order to establish their
training needs and expectations.
From the data collated, an outcomes-based Navigating Officer Limited: Fishing (Vessels less
than 24 metres) instruction-learning programme was formulated in National Qualifications
Framework (NQF) format.

Leadership effectiveness from the perspective of Chief Executive Officers in KuwaitAlomar, Abeer S. A. E. January 2015 (has links)
This research explores leadership effectiveness in organisations in Kuwait from the perspective of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs). This is an area that has been neglected by the extant literature, and no integrated model for assessing CEO effectiveness exists for us to fully understand the phenomenon. Based on a positivist qualitative research approach, evidence was drawn from 16 CEOs using semi-structured interviews. The evidence was corroborated by using data obtained from participant observations of two CEOs working in the same organisation as the researcher. The results indicated that CEOs perceive leadership effectiveness as driving execution and not necessarily the realisation of goals themselves. Their experiences of leadership lead to CEOs in Kuwait believing that leadership effectiveness depends on their leadership style, relationship with the Board and the Executives, experience and family ground, societal and organisational culture, the business environment and CEO characteristics. On the basis of the participants’ perceptions of leadership effectiveness, it is recommended that CEO leadership development in Kuwait should focus on these areas, as this should equip CEOs to be effective in formulating clear visions and executing strategies to enable economic development of the country, and this should help them to compete globally. As the study focused on private and public companies, future research could consider CEOs from governmental and not-for-profit organisations to expand the sample of CEOs.

Ato de preenchimento de orgão de administração: natureza jurídica da relação entre o administrador e a sociedade anônima. / Act of fulfilling the administration bodyMarcelo Barbosa Sacramone 25 May 2012 (has links)
Com o propósito de conceituar a natureza da relação jurídica entre o administrador e as sociedades anônimas, expõem-se, inicialmente, os centros institucionalizados de poder, suas formas de estruturação e funções desenvolvidas na companhia. Delimita-se, então, a quais desses núcleos de poder as atividades de direção, execução e supervisão ordinárias da atividade corporativa foram atribuídas pela Lei. Caracterizado o administrador, aprecia-se a qualidade na qual este age e produz determinados efeitos com seu comportamento. Para a definição dessa posição ocupada na companhia, afere-se a natureza da atribuição da personalidade jurídica ao ente coletivo e sua independência em face dos membros subjacentes. O vínculo criador dessa posição jurídica, entretanto, não possui fundamento teórico uníssono da doutrina estrangeira, tampouco é consenso entre os doutrinadores brasileiros. Aprecia-se, assim, a adequação dos principais argumentos de cada teoria frente ao ordenamento jurídico pátrio mediante a abordagem dos elementos estruturais do ato de preenchimento de órgão. A modalidade do referido ato é definida pela análise da natureza da eleição, mediante a apreciação da deliberação dos órgãos legitimados, da possibilidade de manifestar a vontade social diretamente a terceiros e de produzir efeitos determinados com autonomia, bem como da função integradora da aceitação, como condição de existência de um negócio jurídico bilateral ou de eficácia de um negócio jurídico unilateral. Por fim, confrontam-se as principais características dessa relação jurídica aos contratos de mandato, de prestação de serviço e de trabalho para possibilitar a verificação de sua adequação típica e a definição de um conceito ao ato de preenchimento de órgão de administração das sociedades anônimas. / Aiming to create the concepts for the nature of the juridical relation between the officer and the joint-stock companies, this work initially exposes the institutionalized power centers, their structures composition and roles developed in the company. In the sequence, the essay outlines to which of those power nuclei the Law has ascribed the ordinary activities of direction, performance and supervision of the corporate activity. After the officer is characterized, the work analyzes the quality under which such officer acts and produces certain effects on his/her behavior. To define such position held with the company, it is verified the nature of the assigning the legal personality to the collective entity and its independence towards the underlying members. The bond creating such legal position, however, does not have unified theoretical ground in the foreign doctrine and neither is it a consensus among the Brazilian teachers. Hence, adequacy of each theorys main arguments is assessed against the countrys legal system by addressing the structural elements in the act of fulfilling the body. Modality of such act is defined by analysing the nature of the election, assessing deliberation of the empowered bodies, the possibility of manifesting the social will directly to third parties and to produce certain effects in autonomous manner, as well as the integration roles of the acceptance as a condition for existence of a bilateral juristic act or condition for efficacy of an unilateral juristic act. Finally the main characteristics of such legal relation are confronted with the power-ofattorney, service rendering and employment agreements to enable verification of their typical adequacy and definition of a concept to the act of fulfilling the administration body of the joint-stock companies.

Neste trabalho, a instituição prisional é analisada a partir dos pontos de vista de dez mulheres que trabalham como agentes de segurança penitenciária em diferentes cidades do Estado de São Paulo. A pesquisa, realizada entre os anos de 2010 e 2012, se baseou em trajetórias profissionais narradas por essas mulheres, a partir das quais se buscou compreender os impactos do trabalho no cárcere em suas vidas. Constatou-se que a instituição prisional é compreendida por tais mulheres como um lugar de embates, em que o pensamento institucional molda as experiências individuais ao mesmo tempo em que é modificado por elas. As biografias das guardas definem as escolhas que farão frente às regras estipuladas pela instituição, podendo tanto modificar aspectos da estrutura prisional quanto reafirmá-los, sendo suas identidades profissionais construídas a partir desta relação. As narrativas coletadas trazem à tona tanto questões relacionadas à vivência institucional quanto à experiência individual frente ao enclausuramento do outro. A dor e a violência presentes no sistema prisional são elaboradas a partir de um tipo específico de linguagem em que relações de alteridade tornam-se centrais. A pesquisa também contou com uma discussão sobre os limites e as possibilidades do texto etnográfico a partir de uma aproximação com formas literárias de narrar a experiência. / This paper presents an analysis of prisons from the perspective of ten female prison security officers. In order to understand the impact of working in a prison facility on the lives of female prison guards, an analysis was made of the professional careers of these women, with a focus on the narratives crafted around their experience in prisons. Prisons are, therefore, regarded by these women as a locus of conflicting forces, in which institutional thinking both shapes and is shaped by personal experiences. The personal lives of prison guards affect the choices that these women make when dealing with institutional rules. And from an institutional standpoint, these choices may promote either change or compliance with prison structures. In fact, the professional identity of female prison guards is formed as these choices are made. The narratives that were gathered in this study focus on the professional stories of these women. These narratives raise issues around both their institutional and personal experiences when dealing with people held in confinement. Pain and violence, inherent to prison systems, are processed through a specific type of language. In this process, the experience of the Other is crucial. Based on the narratives constructed by female prison guards, this study also presents a discussion on the limits and possibilities of ethnographic in an approximation to literary forms of narrating experience.

Aspirations for higher education amongst students in 16-19 education in three London BoroughsEglin, G. J. January 1981 (has links)
This study is of the higher education aspirations of a group of students in 16 - 19 education. Data was collected from students in three London boroughs, Bamford, Newton and Rishworth. These students were in the final year in either sixth forms or colleges of further education and taking courses that would enable a successful candidate to gain access to higher education. Both local authority and independent sector institutions were represented in the study. The research began by developing a conceptual framework within which an analysis could be made of the above mentioned students higher education aspirations. Two main types of research was used. Interviews were held with those involved in the provision of 16 – 19 education and with the counselling of students as to higher education entry. A questionnaire was distributed to the above mentioned group of students, requesting information as to various aspects of their background and their aspirations. Some 100 + interviews were carried out with borough councillors, L.E.A. administrators, careers officers, school teachers, and college lecturers. Some 1,500 questionnaires were distributed to students at 31 schools and three colleges of further education. There were 952 replies. The information received was computerised and processed using a prime computer and application package S.P.S.S. An analysis was made in terms of higher education aspirations and L.E.A. area, type of institution, type of course, mode of attendance, socio-economic grouping, family circumstances, type of housing and gender. The findings of this analysis were compared with the original hypothesis and conclusions drawn.

Contextual intelligence and chief executive strategic decision making in the NHSKoh, Yi Mien January 2012 (has links)
CEO competence and development is a continuing concern in the NHS. As a key feature of any CEO leadership role is responsibility for organisationally critical decisions, and there is an increasing recognition of the role context plays in effective leadership behaviour. This study examines the role of contextual intelligence in relation to PCT CEO decision making behaviour. To do this, the research addresses four questions: a) what does the literature say about CEO contextual intelligence? b) what factors do PCT CEOs say they take into account in different decision making contexts? c) what contextual factors do they actually take into account? and d) what impact do the contextual factors have on their decision making behaviour. A systematic literature review resulted in a model of CEO contextual intelligence for CEO decision making. Semi-structured interviews with 24 PCT CEOs in a NHS region about factors influencing their decisions on generic strategies, national policies, regional strategies and local plans revealed a hierarchy among contextual factors applying to different decision strata. Semi-structured interviews and analysis of CEO diaries two months later of the same focal decisions show the real critical factors to be:- national policies themselves, the Strategic Health Authority and the decision making process, for regional strategies; and Top Management Team and structure for local plans. Altogether, the research reveals that the PCT CEO’s decision making context is rationally bounded; the relevant contextual factors differed significantly from the literature derived model; the actual factors in practice differed from what were espoused; choice of factors vary depending on decision trigger strata which links to degrees of CEO autonomy; and macro level factors which were indicated as significant from the systematic review were in fact ignored in practice. A PCT CEO model of contextual intelligence is developed together with a two dimensional model of underlying structures guiding PCT CEO decision making behaviour. The findings have implications for governance structures in the NHS, CEO decision making and senior leader development in ii the NHS in the context of the 2012 Health and Social Care Act. Areas for further research in public sector, NHS and contextual intelligence are also identified.
