A Study On Sources And Consequences Of Elementary Students

Kiran, Dekant 01 October 2010 (has links) (PDF)
A STUDY ON SOURCES AND CONSEQUENCES OF ELEMENTARY STUDENTS&rsquo / SELF-EFFICACY BELIEFS IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COURSE KIRAN, Dekant M.S., Department of Elementary Science and Mathematics Education Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Semra SUNGUR September 2010, 98 pages The present study aimed at investigating sources and consequences of middle school students&rsquo / science self-efficacy beliefs. While mastery experience, vicarious experience, verbal persuasion, and emotional arousal were examined as sources of self-efficacy beliefs, students&rsquo / achievement goals, metacognition, and effort regulation were examined as consequences of self-efficacy beliefs. Self-report instruments, Sources of Science Self-Efficacy Scale (SSSE), Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) and Achievement Goal Questionnaire (AGQ), were administered to 1932 middle school students to assess variables of the study. Results showed that mastery experience, verbal persuasion, and emotional arousal significantly predict students&rsquo / science self-efficacy which was found to be positively linked to mastery approach goals, performance approach goals, mastery avoidance goals, metacognition, and effort regulation. In addition, a positive relationship was found between verbal persuasion and mastery approach goals. Moreover, findings revealed that approach goals were positively associated with metacognition and effort regulation while avoidance goals are negatively linked to effort regulation. Additionally, results indicated a positive association between emotional arousal and effort regulation.

Factors Associated With Technology Integration To Elementary School Settings: A Path Model

Karaca, Feride 01 June 2011 (has links) (PDF)
In this study, a three phase Sequential Mixed Method Design was utilized to test a research based model explaining the relationships between technology integration and the factors affecting it. In the first phase, interviews were conducted with 20 elementary school teachers to identify the most common factors affecting elementary teachers&rsquo / use of technologies. The qualitative findings then guided the development of a survey instrument in the second phase. In the last phase, this survey was administered to 1080 classroom teachers in Ankara. In this phase, a path analytical approach was utilized to investigate the direct and indirect effects of teaching experience, computer use in years, principal support, colleague support, technology competency, teachers&rsquo / attitude and belief towards using technology and lack of time on technology integration to elementary school settings. Our findings indicated that technology integration is a complex process affected by many factors and these factors are highly related to each other. Within all factors, teachers&rsquo / technology competency has the largest direct effect on technology integration. Also, principal support, computer use in years, colleague support and teachers&rsquo / attitude and belief have important influences on technology integration. The technology integration model developed in this study provides a valuable tool for both policy makers and school principals to design and develop some strategies to bring success about integrating technologies in school environments. It will help the school principals in developing a vision and plan, indicating how technology will be integrated to the lessons and how the teachers are expected to use technologies.

Beliefs about caregiving, womens work, and childcare: an Alberta example

Charchun, Julianna Kim 06 1900 (has links)
Although a relationship between womens work and use of child care is well-established, little is known about womens beliefs about who (family or society) is responsible for this care. Using data from a province-wide survey, path analysis determined how beliefs about caregiving predict womens decisions to work or use child care, at different stages of family life. Overall, Albertans believe caregiving is a social responsibility, particularly urban Albertans and women. Womens social beliefs about caregiving predict working for women with preschool and school-age children, and women without children under 14, but do not directly predict use of care at all. Social beliefs are predicted by more education (women with preschool and school-age children) and more children (women with school-age children). The results of this study are presented using an ecological framework, and confirm that beliefs about caregiving should be considered in future studies of womens labour force participation. / Family Ecology and Practice

Relações entre a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de pimentão e a variabilidade na produção de frutos / Relations between physiological quality seeds of chili pepper and variability in the yield of fruit

Brunes, Rélia Rodriguês 12 April 2013 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The objectives of this study were to evaluate the relationship between the physiological quality of chili pepper presenting different levels of vigor and variability in the yield of fruit in a protected environment, identifying the relationships between morphological variables and plant primary production. The experiments were conducted in a greenhouse at the Federal University of Santa Maria, in a randomized block design, with eight repetitions. The treatments consisted of four seed lots of hybrid Tiberius and Rubi Giant, with different vigor levels. Were measured at 50, 70 and 90 days after transplanting (DAT), plant height, height of the first fork, stem diameter, stem diameter below the first fork. In individual and combined harvests measured is the average weight of fruits, average production per plant, average production plant production, total production, average fruit length and average width of fruits analyzed in individual and combined harvests. Were diagnosed assumptions of univariate and multivariate mathematical model, estimates of the Pearson correlation coefficients and path analysis. The diameter and the diameter of the stem below the first bifurcation at 50, 70 and 90 days after transplanting (DAT) are less experimental variability in spring-summer and autumn-winter. Plants from seed vigor high and medium have similar behavior as the plant height at 50 and 70 days after transplanting, the height of the first fork, stem diameter, the diameter below the first fork, total production, the weight average fruit production and average plant. In the spring-summer season, plants from seed vigor high, medium and low, which have higher diameters of the first fork 50 and 90 days after transplanting tend to be more productive. In autumn-winter, there was no relationship of cause and effect on the total yield of pepper.

Carbon footprint decomposition in MRIO models: identifying EU supply-chain hot spots and their structural changes over time

Wieland, Hanspeter, Giljum, Stefan 11 1900 (has links) (PDF)
Politics' demand for informative consumption-based emission assessments based on multi-regional input output (MRIO) databases is steadily increasing. Based on the MRIO database EXIOBASE 3, we exemplify the utility of a range of analytical tools and discus their potential insights for consumption-based policies. The analysis decomposes the overall EU carbon footprint into product groups as well as into emitting regions. Subsequently, we illustrate the potential of applying production layer decomposition (PLD) and structural path analysis (SPA) for the assessment of global supply-chains related to the EU carbon footprint and their structural changes over time. We close with some policy ecommendations on reducing carbon footprint hot spots. / Series: Ecological Economic Papers

Cavalcanti, Nathalie da Silva 28 November 2011 (has links)
There is a growing need to improve management in civil construction. Therefore this work focuses on demonstrating the applicability of a new project management methodology, based on the Theory of Constraints, called Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM), which can collaborates with civil construction management. The research method was an action research in a medium company with two implementation phases. In the first phase, the construction of two semi-detached houses planning was formulated and the results were analyzed. The second phase was to understand and improve the implementation process in an attempt to eliminate or reduce the problems identified at the first phase. The second phase results showed that the CCPM approach increased the team's focus, presented a simple and visual control of the work status, motivated people and teamwork; increased productivity and reduced the multitasking. However, the process required time and dedication for the planning, changed habits, culture and thoughts, besides that it required consensus among stakeholders.

It was a descriptive study aimed at evaluate: 1) the influence of parents' attitudes and expectancies toward children's academic life in general and performance in mathematics in particular, and 2) the role of personal resources, such as control beliefs, self-concept and self-esteem on students' performance and attitudes towards mathematics. The sample was composed by 94 students from 3rd, 5th and 7th grades and their parents, from a private school of Campinas, Brazil. Data collection was performed with aid of observations in classroom, questionnaires and scales, including a Brazilian version of the Control, Agency and Means-Ends Beliefs Interview (Skinner, Chapman & Baltes, 1988). Data were submitted to univariate, multivariate and structural analysis (path ana/ysis). Attitudes and selfbeliefs toward academic achievement and performance in mathematics were predominantly positive, mostly among the youngest. They also showed better performance, in comparison with the oldest students. Girls had more positive self beliefs toward mathematics, but worse self perception about achievement, in despicte of their superior performance, in comparison with boys. There were found statistically significant interactions between parents' attitudes and expectancies toward children's academic performance and their self-beliefs and attitudes toward Mathematics. Children' s personal resources seem to act as moderator variables, since self-concept and control beliefs showed to have strong effects on affective and cognitive components of attitudes towards mathematics and on achievement in mathematics as well / Doutorado / Doutor em Educação

THE DYNAMICS OF FEAR OF CRIME AMONG LGBT PEOPLE : A QUANTITATIVE INVESTIGATION

Ilse, Paul-Baschar January 2022 (has links)
Fear of Crime remains a relevant theme in criminological research. Its associations include damage to psychological well-being, decreases in collective cohesion and trust, and populism. Located in the field of victimology, previous research found that significant predictors for Fear of Crime are: Previous Victimization, Previous Victimization with a Hate-Motive, Severity of Previous Victimization, Perceived Risk and Risk Control. This study will aim to investigate if the dynamics of Fear of Crime established by previous research are applicable in a LGBT population. Subsequently the sub-groups sexual minorities, bisexuals, and trans-people are compared, filling a literature gap. The sample consists of 353 self-identified LGBT people at Malmö University who filled out a self-report survey inquiring about previous victimization, fear of crime, perceived motives of previous victimization, perceived risk of victimization, and tactics to reduce risk of victimization. The predictors were entered into a block-wise multiple regression model as well as a path-analysis. Both Perceived Risk and Risk Control were entered after the other predictors. The results showed that Severity of Previous Victimization was significantly (p < .001) and positively (β = .267) predicting Fear of Crime. Additionally, Severity of Previous Victimization significantly (p < .01) and positively (β = .206) predicted Perceived Risk which in turn predicted (p < .001, β = .208) Fear of Crime. Risk Control did not have a statistically significant effect size (p > .05). In the sub-group comparison, Perceived Risk did not have a significant effect size (p > .05) among the trans-people. The study concludes that Severity of Previous Victimization both has a direct and indirect effect on Fear of Crime, in the LGBT population, but not among the trans-people sub-group, suggesting that future research as well as policy makers need to take such differences into account. Similar conclusions are drawn regarding Risk Control.
