"Är det verkligen verkligt inflytande?" : En analys av förskollärares beskrivningar av inflytandearbete i planerade aktiviteter / ”Is that actually real influence?” : An analysis of preschool teachers' descriptions of children's influence in planned activities.Karlsson, Olivia January 2018 (has links)
I resultatet framkom fem olika moment. / The Curriculum for preschool, Läroplan för förskolan, Lpfö 98 (Skolverket, 2016), states that one of the central objectives in this curriculum is democracy along with children’s right. The curriculum does not provide the practitioners any detailed description of how these objectives achieves. Previous research shows that it is complicated for preschool teachers to meet the expectations of transforming democracy from theory to practice. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present preschool teachers' telling from how they enable to manage the influence of children in planned activities. Qualitative interviews were conducted with active professional preschool teachers. The result was then analyzed with inspiration from Laclau and Mouffe's discourse theory. The result shows that the teachers used multiple methods to enable this. Still the democratic goal is defined as complex and difficult. The moments that express the variety of methods are connected to how the preschool teacher approach the children, the differences in approach enabled or limited the children´s actual influence.

Geoenvironmental zoning for a planned and participative management: coastal plain of the city of Icapuà /CE / Zoneamento geoambiental para uma gestÃo planejada e participativa: planÃcie costeira do municÃpio de IcapuÃ/CEAna Maria Ferreira dos Santos 22 August 2008 (has links)
This dissertation analyzes the sustainability of the carcinoculture in the city of Fortim-CearÃ, taking into consideration environmental, social and technological aspects. The research aimed at identifying the main handlin
g practices and the technology that has been adopted in the shrimp culture farms, and its contribution to a sustainable development of the activity. The study presents some forms of technology and handling practices that can be adopted by the farms, which are considered less environmentally impacting, and it also identifies the main impacts generated by the activity. Primary and secondary data were
used. The primary data were obtained by means of an empirical research carried out in the city of Fortim, during the months of April and August, 2005. During these visits, questionnaires were applied, with semi-structu
red and open questions. It was also possible to carry out interviews with representatives of governmental agencies and the business community. Secondary data were obtained by means of bibliographical research comprising theses, books and articles on the issue, as well as documents such as reports, Codes of Conduct, Federal and State govern
ment directives, and assessments made by governmental agencies in charge of regulating and supervising the activity. In this study, tabular and descriptive analysis techniques and a modified version of the âForest Service of
United States Agricultural Department (1986) methodology were applied. These methods made it possible to transform the qualitative variables into quantitative ones, through
numerical values and weights so as to obtain a Significance Index of the technological, environmental and social variables. Upon the results obtained by these Indexes, it was possible to assess that the carcinoculture in the region is not developing on a sustainable basis, rejecting, therefore, the proposed hypothesis, according to which the handling practices and the technology that has been used in these farms are contributing for the development of the activity in a way that is in harmony with the environment. In spite of the existence of some initiatives that suggest
that the sector is starting to take into consideration environmental matters, it is possible to affirm that the actions carried out by the sectorâs main entities have
not been able to effectively promote the necessary changes
in the behavior and conduct of the business, neither has it been able to call the attention to the importance of preserving the environment.

A review of provincial land-use planning in the Western CapeAbrahams, Farah January 2005 (has links)
Magister Legum - LLM / Planning administration in the Western Cape is at a critical juncture. It is faced with having to address planning issues and housing needs whilst at the same time demonstrating through its practices the promotion of environmentally sustainable development. This paper will discuss planning and environmental legislation and the impact that the application of the legislation has on development proposals. Current legislation addresses issues of spacial development in developed areas and new development proposals but lacks the ability to address issues within informal settlements. Although socio-economic factors are not currently considered when assessing the viability of applications, the courts seem to consider these factors. Since new housing settlements are often developed for the poor and industrial developments in close proximity to these areas have direct impact on these individuals, planning could only gain if these factors are taken into consideration. If planning administration in the Western Cape is to continue successfully and without endless litigation against the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning administrators will have to find a balance between promoting development and protecting the environment. To promote environmentally sustainable developments will require closer cooperation between the land use planning and environmental management components. The loopholes, which permit incremental development in the present legislation, have to be identified and addressed. Guidelines, which will standardize the conditions under which applications can be approved or refused, will have to be drafted to ensure decision-making that is consistent and defensible. If having a liquor store within an affluent environment is not considered desirable such applications should not be considered within lower income areas. The same should apply when dealing with applications to establish factories or industry which will have an impact on the living conditions of communities in close proximity. The MEC will have to ensure that all decision taken are within the legal framework and that such decisions benefit entire communities and protect the rights of the poorest communities as well as that of the wealthy and influential. Environmental legislation and the growing importance of environmental protection is also having an impact on the way in which new settlements are planned and on the rights of property owners. Although, we are responsible for the preservation of the environment for the next generation, socio-economic conditions, HIV and a myriad of other considerations may have to take precedence over environmental concerns. / South Africa

Middle School Teachers' Intentions to Refer Eating Disorder Students for Professional CounselingCarr, Diann P. 02 November 2011 (has links)
Eating disorders can lead to a negative impact on students' academic growth, nutrition and can cause death (Claude-Pierre, 1997; Manley, Rickson, & Standeven, 2000; Romeo, 1996). Early intervention by referring students to professional counseling might help counter these negative consequences. The teacher is in the position to assist students by providing health information, identifying those with problems, and intervening for a variety of dysfunctions that may include the eating disorders called anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa (Myers-Clark & Christopher, 2000). However teachers are in a difficult position to know when to address student concerns and judge what action to take (Ransley,1999). Teachers' engagement seems crucial (Smolak, Harris, Levine, & Shisslak, 2001) since eating disorders are being identified in younger children. The purpose of this study was to examine (a) the relationships of the theoretical constructs, attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control of the theory of planned behavior as predictors of behavioral intention (Ajzen & Fishbein, 1980) of middle school teachers to identify and refer suspected anorexia nervosa (AN) and/or bulimia nervosa (BN) students for professional help; and (b) the actual behavior of middle school teachers who reported having ever referred a student suspected of having AN and BN and those teachers who reported not having made such a referral. One hundred fourteen middle school teachers in Broward County, Florida volunteered to participate in the ex post facto research. Data were collected from a questionnaire. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the constructs of subjective norm (perception of what others think about one's performance of behavior combined with motivation to comply) and perceived behavioral control (perception regarding the extent of the difficulty of performing the behavior) were predictive of teachers' intent (likelihood of engaging in a behavior) to refer. However, the analysis revealed that attitude (overall positive or negative feeling with respect to performing the behavior) was not predictive of teachers' intent. Discriminant function analysis revealed that both intent and perceived behavioral control were predictive of group membership, either having referred a student suspected of having an eating disorder for counseling or not having made such a referral. Attitude and subjective norm were not predictive of group membership.

The application of property value models to assess government housing policy : a Nelson Mandela Bay Case StudySale, Michael Charles January 2013 (has links)
Two developments that may impact house prices have dominated the residential property landscape in South Africa in recent years, namely government’s planned social housing developments and residential property value assessments carried out by local municipalities across South Africa for property tax purposes. Social housing developments are often plagued by “local opposition”, who argue that subsidised housing units may have a negative effect on adjacent non-subsidised residential housing. Negative preconceptions of social housing form the basis of this argument, which is commonly referred to as the “not-in-my-backyard” (NIMBY) syndrome. International studies conducted have, however, produced mixed results with some concluding that social housing developments lead to a reduction in nearby property prices, whilst others conclude that they lead to an improvement in surrounding property values. Currently, the state of the South African economy and demographics are limiting previously disadvantaged, poor peoples’ access to affordable and safe housing, and for this reason the basis of the NIMBY rationale deserves closer attention. In order to test the validity of the NIMBY rationale, this study examines, by means of the hedonic price method, the effect of an existing housing establishment catering for low-income earners (the Walmer/Gqebera Township) on adjacent property values in the suburb of Walmer, Port Elizabeth, Nelson Mandela Bay in the Eastern Cape. The study concludes that the low-cost housing development exerts a negative impact on the property values of nearby houses - the average owner of a non-subsidised residential property in Walmer would be willing to pay between R38 033 and R46 898 to be situated 200 metres further away from the Walmer Township. This conclusion is subject to three qualifications. The first is that the Walmer Township is not a recognised social housing development but merely a proxy for one. The second qualification is that a relatively small data set was used in this study and only one social housing development was considered. The third qualification is that the study period is from 1995 to 2009, which necessitated the adjustment of market prices to constant 2009 rands. For this purpose, data from the Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage section of the ABSA house price indices were used. It was not possible to disaggregate the indices further to obtain a Walmer-specific index. It is possible that an imperfect correlation exists between the Walmer property trend and the metropolitan (Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage) trend used in this study. Based on the results of this doctoral investigation it is recommended that a monthly rebate on property rates of between R269.40 and R332.19 be implemented for affected Walmer residents. This amount could be sufficient to mitigate the capital loss associated with proximity to the Walmer Township. In terms of the management of social housing projects, it is strongly recommended that the following occur in order to alleviate the NIMBY syndrome: existing dwellings should be renovated, tenants should be monitored, dwellings should be appropriately designed and maintained, the composition of the host neighbourhood should be assessed and the image of social housing should be improved. With regard to the renovation of dwellings, social housing site preference should be given to existing structures in need of renovation, as positive externalities are associated with the renovation of such properties. The monitoring of tenants needs to take place in order to ensure that the financial and behavioural obligations of the tenants are met, and that informal “shack dwellings” do not materialise on site, and finally, that tenant default rates remain low. The appropriate management of these projects will also aid in combating the perception that social housing developments lead to private residential property devaluation. In respect of residential property value assessments, many homeowners have recently argued that there is very little equivalence between the municipality’s valuations and true market values. This study uses, inter alia, the hedonic price model to investigate the accuracy of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s 2007/2008 valuation roll. The investigation was limited to the valuation roll applicable to the Walmer neighbourhood. The study finds that there is, on average, a 13.89 percent difference between market prices and the 2007/2008 municipal assessed values. In addition, this study finds that an attributebased hedonic price model produces property price predictions that are more in line with true market values. This finding is subject to two qualifications. The first qualification is that only the Walmer neighbourhood’s assessed values were considered, thus limiting the findings. The second qualification is that a relatively small data set was used.

Patient-initiated Strategies for Self-management of Depression and Low Mood: Understanding Theory and Changing BehaviourPhilip, Grandia January 2014 (has links)
Background: Depression is a major health concern and self-management of depressive symptoms using patient-initiated strategies has the potential to reduce the burden of this condition. A better understanding of behaviour change related to these patient-initiated strategies is needed.
Method: This randomized controlled trial study used an online survey and Knowledge Translation and Transfer theory-based educational intervention to examine the Theory of Planned Behavior model in the context of nine patient-initiated strategies for the self-management of depression and low mood.
Results: Perceived Behavioural Control was identified as the single greatest predictor of Intentions to engage in strategies. Attitudes predicted Intentions to a lesser degree. Subjective Norms were not identified as unique predictors. Theory of Planned Behavior antecedent variables together explained over one third of the variance in Intentions. Intentions to engage in patient-initiated strategies were shown, in some cases, to significantly predict actual engagement in strategies. Level of depressive symptoms did not meaningfully impact any of the antecedent variables or Intentions. Results also suggest that an educational intervention based on Knowledge Translation and Knowledge Transfer principles significantly improved both Attitudes and Subjective Norms – Physician towards patient-initiated strategies. Perceived Behavioural Control and Intentions were not improved as a result of the educational intervention.
Theoretical Conclusions: Findings suggest that the Theory of Planned Behavior functions well in the context of patient-initiated strategies for depression and low mood. Perceived Behavioural Control was identified as the greatest predictor of Intentions to engage in patient-initiated strategies. Results also suggest mood difficulties are not captured by the model’s antecedent variables but instead should be included as an additional variable in this model. The findings of the current study support an integrated model of Knowledge Translation and Transfer and Theory of Planned Behavior.
Practical Conclusions: The current study’s findings provide a better understanding of behaviour change in the context of patient-initiated strategies and will help guide interventions aimed at improving engagement in these behaviours. Findings also provide support and recommendations for the use of Knowledge Translation and Transfer theory-based educational interventions to improve self-management of depression and low mood.

The Determinants of the Use of Telemedicine in SenegalLy, Birama Apho January 2016 (has links)
Introduction
In Senegal, as in many countries, physicians are unevenly distributed. This situation leads to health inequalities, but the solutions adopted to distribute physicians equitably do not give satisfactory results. This situation pushes decision-makers and researchers to look for other solutions such as telemedicine. This technology-based solution is considered to be a good means to improve physician recruitment and retention in underserved areas, thus improving access to healthcare in these areas, but it is still underused in Senegalese health facilities.
Objective
This study aimed to identify the determinants of the use of telemedicine in Senegal. More specifically, it aimed to identify the individual (micro) and contextual (meso and macro) factors that influence the use of telemedicine in Senegal.
Method
The study involved mixed methods: a descriptive qualitative study involving individual interviews and a cross-sectional quantitative study involving questionnaires. The first method was used to study the individual (micro) factors such as physicians’ beliefs on the use of telemedicine and physicians’ perception of the impact of telemedicine on their recruitment and retention in underserved areas. It was also used to study the contextual meso (technical, organizational and ethical) and macro (financial, political, legal and socioeconomic) factors that influence the use of telemedicine. The second method was used to study participants’ intention to use telemedicine in their professional activities, another individual (micro) factor. This study included physicians working in public hospitals, those working in district health, and telemedicine projects managers. Qualitative data was collected through individual interviews, transcribed and imported into NVivo 10 where they were coded thematically. Quantitative data was collected by administering questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS 23.
Results
The results showed that telemedicine could contribute to, but could not guarantee the recruitment and retention of Senegalese physicians in underserved areas. It was found that physicians in Senegal have both positive and negative behavioural, normative and control beliefs that can encourage or discourage them from using telemedicine in their professional practice. The most salient behavioural beliefs were that telemedicine makes experts’ opinions accessible across distances (positive behavioural belief), but could lead to medical errors (negative behavioural belief). The most common normative beliefs were that their patients would most probably approve the use of telemedicine (positive normative belief) while their colleagues working in the public sector might disapprove of it (negative normative belief). The most reported control beliefs were that the use of telemedicine is easy (positive control belief), but could be time-consuming (negative control belief). For physicians in Senegal, the findings also demonstrate that the probability that they will use telemedicine in their professional activities is moderate and influenced by their perceived behavioural control which, in turn, is influenced by their positive and negative control beliefs. Finally, the results demonstrate that many contextual meso (technical, organizational and ethical) and macro (financial, political, legal and socioeconomic) factors influence the use of telemedicine in Senegal.
Conclusion
The results of this study can inform the choice of telemedicine development strategies. These strategies can help to promote the use of telemedicine in Senegal, which in turn can help to increase physician recruitment and retention in underserved areas, resulting in better access to healthcare and, and as a result improved population health.

Štíhlý podnik / Lean enterpriseGmenta, Marian January 2010 (has links)
The content of this thesis is a set of approaches that lead to a leaner enterprise. Besides the basic lean methods that are described in the theoretical part of this paper, the most attention is devoted to total productive maintenance (TPM). The practical part of this paper primarily focuses on a complete analysis of the maintenance system in Parker Hannifin and then on a project designed to implement the basic elements of TPM in the above mentioned enterprise. At the end of the piece, the project is evaluated and further ideas and recommendations for the future development of TPM in the enterprise are proposed.

Činitelé vedoucí spotřebitelé k ekologicky a společensky zodpovědnému chování / Factors leading consumers to environmentally and socially responsible behaviourDescubes, Irena January 2009 (has links)
What are the key antecedents, factors and moderators that influence environmentally friendly and socially responsible consumer behaviour? Individual consumers buy products and services not only for their intrinsic satisfactory functionalities. They make their consumption choices also because of specific extrinsic products/service abilities to affirm their lifestyle choice, i.e. enhance their self-concepts and satisfy their psychological needs. Given that despite the recent increase of interest in sustainable consumer behaviour, little is known on sustainable consumer aspirations, this study aims at filling the research gap in this area of academic research. This study investigates ad hoc literature in Lifestyle Strategic Marketing, Branding, Social Psychology and Self-Concept Theory applicable in Green and Fair Trade Operational Marketing . Mixed research methods are used in three distinct studies: (a) laboratory experiment, (b) SurveyMonkeyTM online questionnaire analyzed quantitatively, and (c) SPSS and SEM software data management and analysis. They are conducted in France and based on the common research models, i.e. the Theory of reasoned action (TRA) founded by Fishbein & Ajzen (1975) and the Theory of planned behaviour (TPB) coined by Ajzen (1991). Specific attitudes towards environmentally friendly and fair-trade products and services are derived from Value sets, Awareness of Consequences beliefs and Environmental Concern evaluations; therefore in the third partial study we adapt the research model proposed by Hansla et al. (2008). In all of them is employed a convenience sampling method that allows to gather between 109 and 350 respondents. Results allow for identification of salient factors influencing consumer purchasing intention and willingness to adopt and pay for both environmentally friendly and socially responsible products and/or services.

Begreppet undervisning – hur det definieras och tillämpas inom förskolans verksamhet / A qualitative study on how the concept of teaching is defined within the preschool's activitiesRodas Jaramillo, Bill, Krasniki, Selvete January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate and gain a more in-depth understanding of how the concept of teaching is defined by preschool teachers and how the concept of teaching is applied within preschool activities. In our independent work, we would like to explore how preschool teachers define the concept of teaching and how teaching is applied within preschool activities. This is because the concept of teaching has been given a more significant role in the preschool's activities and that the role of the preschool teacher is clarified in the new revised curriculum (Lpfö. 98 rev. 2018, s. 7). We will base the study on three questions which are: How is the concept of teaching defined in the preschool context? What are the differences between the preschool teacher’s definition of the concept of teaching? What methods and strategies do preschool teachers use to include children in the teaching opportunities they consider important for children’s development? We will answer our questions based on the socio-cultural perspective and variation theory. Within the sociocultural theory we will focus on three concepts which are mediation the zone of proximal development and appropriation. The results show that there are different definitions of the concept of teaching by preschool teachers, and that is partly because that the concept is somewhat new in the preschool education. At the same time, they consider that the concept belongs more in the secondary school, and not as much in preschool. This is in line with previous research that we have used in our study. When it comes to how teaching is applied in preschool, it is shown that preschool teachers always have a purpose with the activities and clear learning goals both for the planned and spontaneous teaching opportunities.
