The Installation Process of a Progressive Web App : Studying the Impact of "Add to Home screen"

Holsby, Isak January 2021 (has links)
Progressive Web Apps (PWA) is a concept of enhanced web apps which aim to erase the difference between web and native apps. The concept of PWA introduces several benefits, including simpler distribution and development, which makes web apps a viable option for many businesses. The installation process of a PWA is different from native apps and this study aims to understand whether or not it has an impact on the users will to install the PWA. PWA:s are installed directly from the browser, rather than an app marketplace. Said installation process is suspected to be unknown to many which might influence the impact. In this study, several papers on the topic are studied. A PWA is developed from scratch which is used as a platform for a user test, hosting a brief introduction of the topic as well as guiding participants through the installation process. In conjunction with the user test a survey is conducted to collect the impressions from their experience in the user test. The result of the survey shows indications that the suspected lack of knowledge and experience was correct, and that the installation process is not to complicated.Additionally, results show that many probably will not bother to install a PWA, even if it is available. Therefore, I argue that the installation process does have an impact in its current form. Alternatives to the installation process used in this study do exist and are discussed in this paper.

Mauritzson, William, Kamali, Selma January 2023 (has links)
The rapidly growing technological advancements have led many companies to adapt theirproducts, services and corporate structure to the increasingly modern platform model. This modelhas shown great potential for companies to grow and create a larger network of interactions withother stakeholders, serving as a strong competitive advantage compared to companies followinga traditional analog business model. This case study examines how Jägersro hästcenter can benefitfrom such a model and explores various suggestions to increase the number of visitors to thefacility. STREAMLINING PUBLIC SERVICES WITH PEGA’S LOW-CODE PLATFORM: A CASE STUDY / EFFEKTIViSERING AV OFFENTLIGA TJÄNSTER MED PEGAS LÅGKODSPLATTFORM: EN FALLSTUDIE

Dahlgren, Lars Axel, Anton, Höök January 2023 (has links)

Yaro, Dennis January 2022 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze whether the current platform elements can handle the additional loads from the introduction of platform screen doors at various subway stations. The specific stations involved in the study were Norsborg, Alby, Fridhemsplan, Globen and Alvik. Method: By introducing the platform screen doors, the number of potential accidents is minimized, and the safety of passengers is increased. In order to see if the platforms would be capable of handling the extra load from the platform doors, engineers have measured the thickness of the current platforms to see whether they would be able to withstand the additional pressure that comes with the installation of platform screen doors. Results: Based on the calculations of the different platform types, the results show that platform type 1 can not handle loads from the platform doors and has to be reinforced to minimize the risks of breakage and tilting. Platform types 2 and 3 can manage the weight from the platform doors but should also be reinforced since there is a risk that they will break in the future. In order to achieve safety for people on the platform, the results show that a half-high platform door is the best choice. Conclusions: The available manufacturers on the market offer some different models of platform screen doors, both full and half-height. Since stations and their platform elements vary in design and quality, it is not the optimal choice to have the same type of doors on all stations. The best choice for indoor stations is to install full height screen doors where it is possible. Although, half-height screen doors can be installed on all stations. The half-height screen doors result in the most consistent performance while maintaining the safety of people on the platform.

The future of digital platforms : An exploration of Generation Z’s needs and expectations / Framtidens digitala plattformar : En undersökning av Generation Zs behov och förväntningar

Läärä, Loviisa Jenny Maria January 2018 (has links)
In today’s platform economy, the postal industry has been disrupted with emerging technologies and changing consumer needs. While the physical letter volumes continue to decrease, postal operators seek new sources of customer value through digital innovations. Digital mailbox is an example of a multisided platform that creates value by connecting two or more customer groups and facilitating interaction or transactions between them. In order to successfully attract both supply and demand to these platforms, the platform provider needs to understand both sides of the market The purpose of this study was to increase the understanding of the needs and expectations of the biggest consumer group of the future, Generation Z, regarding their interaction with different sectors in the Finnish society. Furthermore, the research aim was to shed light on the possible implications that these needs and expectations would have on platform providers. The context for the study was Finland. The study was conducted as a case study for PostNord, a communications and logistics supplier in the Nordics. A qualitative research design included conducting 12 semi-structured interviews with Generation Z representatives, born between 1995 and 2001. Additionally, a mirroring workshop with industry experts was conducted in order to include the perspective of the case company. The results were analysed using a thematic analysis method. The findings of this study show that Generation Z’s choice for device and channels is contextual, depending on the importance and urgency of the matter. Gen Z prefers to receive their communication on one platform instead of many, and often on mobile application. This generational cohort has high expectations regarding the speed of the communication. They expect fast responses that also enable a meaningful dialogue, yet on their own terms. The findings indicate that Gen Z values the human element even in digital communication. They want to receive information that is not only relevant to them, but arrives on the right time and comes from a competent, familiar source. These findings have implications on not only PostNord as a platform provider, but all the potential ecosystem partners.

Localized actuation of temperature responsive hydrogel-layers with a PCB-based micro-heater array

Binder, Simon, Ehrenhofer, Adrian, Ahmad, Tanvir, Reiche, Christopher F, Solzbacher, Florian, Wallmersperger, Thomas 07 December 2022 (has links)
Space-resolved stimulation of active hydrogel layers can be achieved for example by using a micro-heater array. In the current work, we present the interaction of (i) such a rigid array of heating elements that can be selectively activated and (ii) an active thermo-responsive hydrogel layer that responds to the local stimulus change. Due to the respective local actuation, (iii) the surface form of a passive top-layer can be manipulated. We present continuum-based simulative predictions based on the Temperature Expansion Model and compare them to experimental outcomes for the system.

Usage of digital twin in order to predict temperature within a thermic test rig / Användning av digital tvilling för att förutspå temperatur i en termisk testrig

Blomqvist, Malinda January 2022 (has links)
Many people suffer from diabetes and as a result of the disease, circulatory issues in feet are common. To find such issues at an early stage, Vistafeet were developing a product that measures the temperature in feet. This product needed to be calibrated and for that purpose, this master thesis was evaluating a proposed calibration rig and the possibility of using a digital twin in order to predict the temperature of the rig. The concept of a digital twin includes a physical product, a virtual model of the same product, and information flow between them. By receiving information from the physical product, the digital model should be able to estimate or predict information about the physical product, information that is then used to improve the physical product. In order to be a true digital twin, it should be automatic and in real time. If the data flow is delayed, a better description is digital shadow or digital model, depending on the level of connection. Due to time limitations during this master thesis, the real time connection required for a proper digital twin was not achieved. The scope was then limited from a digital twin to a digital model. The evaluation of the rig was conducted through a case study of the rig including a number of tests, with the purpose of replicating and verifying the result from a previous study by Xiao and Fan [23]. The digital model was made by logging data from the physical product to later use within the simulated environment. First the digital model was compared and adjusted to the information from several thermal points of the physical model. The thermal points were spread out to give as much information as possible the de simulation, but only placed on sides of the rig that would have easy access if the rig were to be used for calibration. Once the digital model was adjusted, the final simulation was made, and temperature data was compared in verification points to see how well the digital model fit the physical model. The verification points were chosen on the calibrating side of the rig and spread out to see if the model managed to predict potentially tricky places. To finalize the investigation of the rig, errors within the model and the rig itself were evaluated. The result showed that it was possible to fulfill the conclusions from a previously made study. The digital model turned out to be accurate and managed to predict the temperature down to ± 0,1 degrees for most verification points. However, one verification point close to a heater element had much less accuracy than the rest. The result was still acceptable, but this indicates that it is not possible to assume that the model can predict entirely correct temperature within the whole rig only because some points are correct. Especially if trying to predict temperature in more difficult places such as close to a heater. The investigation of errors within the digital model showed that the digital model simulated well within the limits as the temperature range and the controller changed. The sensor close to the heater remained in the same error range as in the first simulation. The errors in hardware were evaluated and the variation between sensors was measured to about 0,1 degrees. However, there might also be a slight offset from the true temperature due to errors affecting all thermistors equally. Even though a 0,1 resolution between sensors is quite good, it is insufficient resolution for this test since the errors in the tests were about ± 0,1 degrees. Despite that, the error of the simulation was still in an acceptable range for a digital model setup. For further improvement, a proper real time digital twin could be implemented, but also higher resolution sensors are required.

Digital Platforms in Healthcare : A Case Study of Adoption and Usage Among Elderly Generations

Bergström, Frida, Ekman, Tilda January 2021 (has links)
Background – Digitalization and the utilization of ICTs in healthcare have revolutionized the healthcare industry through digital healthcare platforms (DHP). ICTs and DHP’s are highly beneficial for those who have the ability to use them, meanwhile increasing the digital segregation for those who cannot, e.g., elderly generations. Although, elderly generations can particularly benefit from utilizing DHP’s, e.g., enabling independent living. Furthermore, the elderly population is expected to grow globally in the upcoming years, which affects governmental expenditures on healthcare. Purpose – The aim of this study is to investigate what causes elderly not to adopt and use DHP’s, i.e., investigate and develop a deeper understanding of the central barriers for elderly. Furthermore, the second aim is to investigate how DHP providers better can facilitate increased adoption and usage among the elderly generations. Method – This study followed an abductive research approach of a single case company that offers healthcare services through a digital platform. To answer research questions, we primarily used a qualitative research method as well as quantitative data to strengthen our findings. In total, 22 qualitative interviews were conducted with respondents over 65. The interviews were divided between previous users of digital health platforms and non-users. The quantitative data were analyzed through SPSS where uni- and bivariate analysis was performed. Findings – Our finding disclosed that elderly experience mainly two barriers for adoption of DHP’s among elderly: negative attitudes and technology anxiety and one barrier for both adoption and usage: trust. This adds to the previous literature which has not made any distinction between adoption and usage of DHP’s among elderly. Furthermore, this study provides direct development suggestions that can enable increased adoption and usage. Theoretical implications – This study contributes to previous digital health literature by considering digital platforms a part of healthcare. We contribute with deepened knowledge regarding barriers that hinders adoption for elderly and by suggesting development suggestions that are able to bridge each barrier. Managerial implications – The managerial implications of this research are directed towards DHP providers on how they can facilitate increased adoption and usage respectively. The implications include design and marketing options that are able to enable the objective.

[pt] IMPÉRIO DO MEIO 3.0: HISTORICIDADE, BIG TECHS E PLATAFORMIZAÇÃO NA CHINA / [en] MIDDLE EMPIRE 3.0: HISTORICITY, BIG TECHS AND PLATFORMIZATION IN CHINA

CARMEM LUCIA BARRETO PETIT 31 October 2023 (has links)
[en] In this thesis, we examine how Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have developed in China based on historical specificities, the role of the State and private technology companies structured within a platform economy model, considered a strategic sector for the modernization policy deployed by the Chinese State. This research is situated in the subfield of the Political Economy of Communication (PEC) context, which derives from the Critique of Political Economy, which in turn, due to its transversal nature across different fields of Social Sciences, it can provide important tools to understand communication and cultural phenomena in the new configurations of information societies. The objectives of this work are to reconstruct the path of development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in China in the 20th and 21st centuries, and to examine their economic and politic impacts. Additionally, the study will analyze how Chinese big techs and their global versions are structured, their characteristics, and how such private companies relate to the State. In this research, we use bibliographic research and documentary analysis as methodological procedures, contemplating literature that allows us to look at China from its imperial and revolutionary experience, as well as conceptual discussions on platforms and the process of embedding digital structures in everyday life, called platformization. Document analysis allowed us to map the state of platformization in China, the challenges, the tensions, and how this articulates within the new wave of technical progress with direct consequences on production dynamics and capital accumulation. We conclude that although the development of ICTs has led China to challenges similar to those faced by Western countries, such as the formation of platform company monopolies, whose business models are supported by massive data collection and analysis, there are important specificities that do not allow a mere reflection of Chinese platform structures with Western ones, notably American ones. Having initially taken inspiration from North American platforms, the Chinese have taken advantage of gaps within the Chinese organization to develop arrangements that are absolutely particular at the social, economic and political levels.
