Saberes experienciais e estágio investigativo na formação de professores de física / Experiential knowledge and investigative stage in physics teacher education

Alexander Montero Cunha 16 December 2013 (has links)
The supervised practicum in initial teacher education is the moment in which the pre-service teachers are inserted, as a teacher, into their professional environment. To understand the place of internship in teacher education is necessary to investigate how the teachers knowledge pre-service teachers are prepared during the training. This research focus on the development of teachers knowledge by pre-service teachers during a investigate supervised practicum occurred in their initial teacher education. A investigate supervised practicum comprehends both the teaching dimension, the latter having as its main characteristic the teaching activities carried out by the pre-service teachers, and the research dimension, which takes into account a process whereby pre-service teachers examine their own pedagogical practices. The concept of knowing as a research construct and the centrality of experiential knowledge in teachers professional practice are considered, as proposed by Tardif (2008), so as to understand the development and validation of teachers knowledge by pre-service teachers throughout the investigate supervised practicum. Moreover, the so-called Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) was also applied as a theoretical framework of analysis in order to describe the interactions prevailing in the teachers knowledge related to the practicum accomplished by the pre-service teachers. The researcher, as the practicum supervisor, guided and assisted two pre-service teachers of a public university of São Paulo over one semester in the development of their practicum. The analysis of the data involved two perspectives: firstly, a longitudinal one, which regarded the recorded supervision meetings between the pre-service teachers and the researcher, as well as a practicum final presentation, and an individual final interview, which provided a timeline of the of the development and validation of teachers knowledge as the supervised pre-service teachers practicum progressed; and secondly, a transversal perspective, based on five thematic units of analysis, originating in the first stage of analysis, which allowed us to look deeper the development and validation the teachers knowledge by pre-service teachers during the supervised practicum. From these two perspectives examined in more descriptive way, it was possible to devise a better understanding of the theory-practice relationship and the centrality of experiential knowledge in the accomplishment of the investigate supervised pre-service teachers practicum. The perception of the centrality of experiential knowledge and the movement of PCK in the teaching activities of pre-service teachers in the development of investigative supervised practium, allowed us to reflect on the initial teacher education and propose redirects that can contribute to a more effective theory-practice relationship.

Pedagogické praxe v přípravě angličtinářů / Practicum in training teachers of EFL

Pospíšil, Jan January 2017 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the topic of teaching practicum in training teachers of EFL. The practicum is regarded as a complex didactic tool realized for a specific purpose with a specific aim. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the concept of practicum and the role of its participants. Furthermore, it presents the practicum models used in Finland, Germany and Belgium. Based on secondary literature and on the description of the practicum models used in the selected countries, the theoretical part proposes recommendations for enhancing the efficiency of practical training within the lifelong learning programme. The aim of the empirical part of this thesis is to find out how novice teachers evaluate their practical training and the beginning of their teaching career. The research is based on five case studies of teachers educated at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University and one case study of a teacher educated at the Faculty of Education at the University of South Bohemia. Semi- structured interviews were conducted to find out whether the novice teachers felt sufficiently prepared for their career and whether they consider the practicum model efficient. The research findings suggest that the practicum model used within the lifelong learning programme is inadequate and does not sufficiently...

Students' experiences of community engagement in an educational psychology practicum

Malekane, Wendy Mapule 30 March 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to explore and describe students’ experiences of community engagement in an Educational Psychology practicum. The theoretical framework was Kolb’s (1984) experiential learning theory. The study consulted relevant literature relating to community engagement, the experiences of students of community engagement activities, such as service-learning; the asset-based approach, positive psychology and the learning strategies relevant to the community engagement practice, namely experiential and reflective learning. A qualitative research approach was applied, guided by an interpretivist epistemology. An instrumental case study design was employed and the Department of Educational Psychology of the University of Pretoria, which was involved in the community engagement practicum, was conveniently selected for this research study. I selected one focus group for a pilot study, and later selected a second focus group, consisting of 8 purposefully selected students of the MEd Educational Psychology degree, as my research participants. Focus group interviews, reflective journals and visual data served as data collection methods. And, to further enrich the data collection process, audio-visual methods and a personal reflective journal also served as methods of data documentation Four main themes emerged as the result of thematic analysis and interpretation. Firstly, during the focus group interview, the students conversed about how they gained insight into themselves as Educational Psychologists within South Africa, such as their experiences of encountering individuals from different socio-economic groups, cultures, race and language. Secondly, the students also experienced professional development as a result of their experiences from the Educational Psychology community engagement practicum. That included experiencing themselves as being more confident, able to adapt to new situations and deeper insight into their role as a professional. Thirdly, the students discussed experiences related to integration of theory and practice. Their ability to understand theories, such as the asset-based approach and positive psychology, was enhanced as a result of putting it into practice. Finally, the students had experiences relating to structuring a community engagement practicum. The students expressed the need to receive additional information on the orientation and preparation of the practicum, as at times they had felt unsure of what was expected of them. They experienced the time spent in the practicum as being limited and discussed their experiences of writing in a reflective journal and participating in reflective dialogue Based on the findings, community engagement in this Educational Psychology practicum can be regarded as being a valuable inclusion to the training programme of these students of Educational Psychology, as it gave them the opportunity to interact with diverse clients in a South African setting. As a result of experiential learning during the practicum, students acquired several skills that they would not have gained in a classroom setting, such as the ability to work with diversity, groups, different age groups and in different contexts. Digital multimodal loggbok som bro mellan lärare och studenter på yrkeslärarutbildningen / Digital Multimodal Log Book as a Bridge between Teacher and Students in Vocational Teacher Education

Ådefors, Annica January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate what potential a digital multimodal logbook can have as a digital bridge between students and teacher educator during the practice-based part of the education, to support students in their professional development as well as in their development of knowledge. Socio-semiotic resources, such as digital tools, were used for this purpose. I have studied how a group of student teachers use the semiotic resources offered in the digital multimodal logbook during the practice-based part of their education, aiming to communicate their professional development and their knowledge development by a digital bridge to the university. By using text analysis, influenced by a hermeneutic model, I have studied what can facilitate, but also prevent students' work in the logbooks and the result are discussed in relation to the concept of semiotic resources and multimodality. Through a text analysis, influenced by a hermeneutic modell – in terms of an expanded text concept – are the students work in the digital multimodal log books investigated. The results are reported and discussed with a focus on the students’ use of socio-semiotic resources and multimodalities. The reason for using text analysis as a method was a desire to identify factors that could influence communication through digital bridges in a digital multimodal logbook. The study contained 13 logbooks who have been analysed from whole to parts at four occasions. The results show that students with digital knowledge could communicate their expectations and their learning by using the socio-semiotic resources that were offered. Students with limited basic digital knowledge did not use the resources they were offered which resulted in the fact that they lost the opportunity to create meaning in this context by using the offered resources.

Learning to "Teacher Think": Using English Education as a Model for Writing Teacher Preparation in the Composition Practicum

Lankford, Angela Celestine 18 December 2013 (has links) (PDF)
This study explores the impact of "teacher thinking" exercises in the Composition Practicum as a means of instilling a clearer sense of professional development in graduate instructors. Teacher thinking is a teacher training method that asks the novice instructor to see from the perspective of learners within their writing classrooms. Scholarship on writing teacher preparation programs suggests that English educators regularly employ teacher thinking exercises in the training of secondary school teachers. Teacher thinking has allowed many English education majors to conceptualize and obtain teaching identities by helping them to envision the intricate layers of teaching earlier in their careers. But can teacher thinking exercises have the same effect on graduate instructors in the Composition Practicum? Using the two main writing teacher preparation courses at Brigham Young University (BYU) for graduate instructors and English education majors, English 610 and English 423, I analyze the evidence of teacher thinking in each program and address the possible implications these findings could hold for the Composition Practicum course. Through my comparison of these courses, I determine if conversations between English educators and the Composition Practicum could be beneficial in helping graduate instructors to grow professionally as teachers as they learn to think like teachers in the Composition Practicum. I examine, analyze, and compare syllabi, surveys, and interview response from graduate instructors, English education majors, and the teachers of both courses to identify the types of teaching thinking students are exposed to in each course. Structuring my discussion around the teacher thinking theories of teacher educators, Forrest Parkay and Beverly Stanford, George Hillocks, and Alicia Crowe and Amanda Berry, I identify three types of knowledge that graduate instructors and English education majors gained or lacked in each program. These three types of knowledge are knowledge of self, knowledge of students, and knowledge of educational theory. Through this discussion, I explore what it means to think like a composition teacher and how learning to "teacher think" may help graduate instructors, nationally, to understand what it means to "simply be a composition teacher".

Role parameters within the context of the practicum triad : teacher training perspectives from Namibia's Zambezi Region

Zulu, Africa 02 1900 (has links)
This study examined the varying roles of individual members of the teaching practicum triad, comprising the university supervisor, the student teacher and the school support teacher, during the practicum component of primary teacher education at the University of Namibia’s Katima Mulilo Campus. The research sought to establish the perceptions of the school support-teachers, university students and university lecturers about the effectiveness of pre-deployment preparedness of trainee teachers before their attachment to schools for teaching practice and to establish the facets of the school participation within the triad which are most effective in supporting trainee teachers throughout their school based practicum. The practicum partnership matrix, as well the pre-teaching campus-based studies and pre-deployment preparations by the university, were closely examined. Suggestions from practicum schools, trainee teachers and the University of Namibia’s Faculty of Education were collated in efforts to develop effective partnership models. This study thus posits a view that school-based teaching practica should provide the pre-service trainee teachers with opportunities to be exposed to the realities of teaching and other related professional activities through the development of sustainable norms and a continuum of realistic practicum partnerships which should take on board all stakeholders. / Curriculum and Instructional Studies / D. Movimento e contradição: a disciplina de práticas em ensino de física e a formação inicial de professores de física sob a perspectiva histórico-cultural / Moviment and contradiction: the course of Practice of Physics teaching and the initial teacher education in Physics under a cultural-historical viewpoint

Rodrigues, Andre Machado 10 July 2013 (has links)
Following an international trend, in the last decades the initial teacher education program in Brazil started to include more and earlier aspects of professional practice in the curriculum of higher education. In particular the expansion of Practicum hours included in an even sharper questions about the integration between university and school, the role of the basic education system in teacher education and the integration between subject content to be taught (e. g. Physics), the educational content and the experience in the future workplace. These issues are the subject of the course of Practice of Physics Teaching, which was established in 2008 to meet these new demands and organize part of supervised internship. In this research is analyzed the course of Practice of Physics Teaching carried out in 2010 with about 60 undergraduates divided into two classes. Focused mainly on experimental approach for teaching Physics, students should prepare for conducting lessons are developed at school every two weeks throughout the academic year. Three basic activities in which undergraduates participate: (i) The training held in the classroom with the help of the Physics teacher at school, (ii) the planning workshops for the Practicum in which undergraduates were assisted by monitors/teachers educators, (iii) the classes in which undergraduates make reports on events during the Practicum. Through qualitative research were collected several sources of data such as video recordings, interviews, questionnaires and analysis of written and documentary material. Using a mixed method analysis of the data - between inductive and deductive reasoning - was possible to build a comprehensive picture of the course organization and the course dynamics weekly and throughout the year. Based on the cultural-historical theory of activity initiated by Vigotski and later developed by Leontiev, Engeström and many other scholars was possible to build a robust analytical tools to understand the course\'s dynamics and its contradictions. The analysis was constructed from three focus: The first one refers to the formation of the object of the discipline, showing that it is a historical object and complex. Precisely the diversity of participants and hierarchical levels causes the object to be multifaceted and contradictory. The second focus of the analysis is the material life of discipline, especially as the lab guidelines were re/produced over time, providing the researcher to important elements of the teaching-learning and participation of undergraduate students in the discipline. The third focal point of the analysis is on the concept of agency, as the critical action transforming the activity itself. On completion of stage undergraduates have to make decisions, organize the participants and act on new information that was not even planned. The agency provides important information about how integrated the Practicum are to the daily life of the school. Finally, the analytical framework for the course/Practicum allows us to end point in directions possible object expansion and therefore the transformation activity stage producing an organic integration between the university and the school.

Alunos-professores e professores-alunos: o trabalho em grupo no estágio supervisionado. / Student-teachers and teacher-students: group work in the practicum.

Hayama, Priscila Mayumi 28 March 2008 (has links)
The focus of this study is group work in the teaching practicum in initial teacher education. The research observed four groups, made up of two to four student-teachers, in two situations: during classes in the discipline English Teaching Methodology, which is part of the Teaching License course of FEUSP (School of Education of the University of São Paulo), and during the practicum classes of these groups in the English minicourses, in that same institution. The data presented here were collected in 2006 by means of extended contact with the research subjects, using tools such as class observations, informal conversations, semi-structured interviews and questionnaires, among others. The aim was to make a qualitative and detailed description of the subjects and their experience in the teaching practicum, the main interest lying on aspects related to group work. Four main dimensions of group work were observed in the practicum. The first was related to the choice of partners to form a group. It was observed that previous contact with colleagues and also schedule constraints were the main factors taken into account in this decision. The second aspect observed in the research was the organization of the teams to prepare classes. The student-teachers had to use their free time for this activity, since it was not included in the regular class timetable. For this reason, they usually arranged the preparation of materials by phone or e-mail. The third characteristic of group work in the minicourses was connected to team teaching in the classrooms. In this situation, feelings of anxiety for being observed by one\'s peers were detected and the group dynamics regarding the alternation of roles in the classroom were also analyzed. The last dimension of group work investigated in the research was the existence of informal leaders in the teams. It was shown that the emergence of leaders could not be explained by a single motivation (such as greater professional experience or greater knowledge of the content); instead, it was interrelated with characteristics of the leaders themselves, of the other group members and of the context as a whole.

No. of bitstreams: 1 CED - Bendita Donaciano.pdf: 529941 bytes, checksum: c564fee8110eb52dfeb335d627273197 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006-08-01 / This research project aims at analysing the primary teacher education process in the IMAPs, with a view to contribute with concrete proposals to improve the development of teacher competence during the student teaching practicum, in the 10th+1+1 teacher education model. I selected this model considering that a student teaching practicum of one year provides better opportunities for competence development in teacher education than shorter periods, because the future teacher participates in all school activities. Therefore, this dissertation: 1. describes and analyses the problems of IMAP primary teacher education, especially in the 10th+1+1 model, as the most appropriate for the actual phase of Education in Mozambique; 2. analyses the 10th+1+1 model as the opportunity to give the future teacher a long period of teaching practice, the student teaching practicum; 3. formulates hypotheses about discussing and living competence in the daily life of the teacher both during teacher education and in his professional practice; 4. enhances de concept of competence as a concept to be developed during the entire period of teacher education, a concept that is instrumental in educating teachers that are capable of ensuring a high quality of teaching; 5. makes clear, in the analysis and interpretation of the data, how the teachers understand competence, how they use it and give it the importance it deserves. 6. concludes with some pertinent considerations about the importance of competence development during teacher education and professional teaching practice. Competence development will improve the quality of the teachinglearning process in our schools. Also, I put forward a number of aspects that should be taken into account for the reintroduction of the 10th+1+1 model in our teacher education institutions / A presente pesquisa tem por objectivo analisar o processo de formação de professores primários feita nos IMAPs, de modo a contribuir com propostas concretas para melhorar o desenvolvimento da competência, durante o estágio, no modelo de formação 10ª+1+1.
