[en] BINARY NUMBERS: A TEACHING PROPOSAL FOR THE BASIC EDUCATION LEVEL / [pt] NÚMEROS BINÁRIOS: UMA PROPOSTA DE ENSINO PARA A EDUCAÇÃO BÁSICA

ANA CAROLINA VARGAS FREDERICO 09 September 2020 (has links)
[en] This work presents a proposal for teaching binary numbers in the basic education level through playful and motivating activities based on: a trick to perform a (magic) of guessing, a secret message that needs to be unveiled and a game called Nim, which has a winning strategy developed and demonstrated by the mathematician Charles L. Bouton. We begin with a conceptual approach on the positional numeral system and the base 10, and then we will talk about the binary numeral system and its relevant aspects. We introduce the theory that underlies the binary magic cards and analyze Boutons winning strategy for Nim, including a fresh view on that strategy. Subsequently, we describe the three proposed activities that can be applied in classes of Elementary II and High School. We conclude presenting the methodology and considerations about the application of these activities in the ninth grade classes at a public school in the municipality of Guapimirim, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

[en] FINANCIAL MATHEMATICS WITH ELECTRONIC SPREADSHEETS: A PROPOSAL FOR HIGH SCHOOL / [pt] MATEMÁTICA FINANCEIRA COM PLANILHAS ELETRÔNICAS: UMA PROPOSTA PARA O ENSINO MÉDIO

CHRISTIANE BITTENCOURT FERREIRA 30 August 2021 (has links)
[en] This work presents a proposal for teaching financial mathematics concepts using electronic spreadsheets in high school. He points out that the main fundamentals studied in this area of Mathematics gain in understanding, in possibilities of analysis and in facilitating calculations when the dialogue between these concepts and technology is carried out. The work begins with reflections on the importance of continuing education for teachers, the use of technology in the teaching-learning process and the study of financial mathematics in elementary school, in parallel with the use of electronic spreadsheets. The construction of this foundation is based on the theory developed by authors such as Kenski, Pocho, Alvarez, Nascimento and Giraldo. Afterwards, the basic concepts on the subject are presented and exemplified, followed by their applications in an electronic spreadsheet (Excel). In order to show that the subject is recurrent in selection tests, some more recent ENEM tests were chosen and some questions and their solutions were presented, solving them also using Excel. Finally, as a more contemporary way of applying the concepts presented, proposals were developed for the construction of simulators, resources that work like financial calculators, through problem situations that bring more meaning to learning. It is expected that the work presented here will contribute to the formation of more critical and autonomous citizens and promote the qualification of both teachers and students in primary schools.

The potential of certifying carbon removals in the EU : A feedback examination regarding the proposed regulation on a Union certification framework for carbon removals / Möjligheten att certifiera koldioxidinfångning i EU

Kuusela, Hanna, Roström, Sixten January 2023 (has links)
The EU has set out a goal to become climate neutral by 2050. The IPCC has recognized carbon dioxide removal (CDR) as being an essential technology in order to achieve net zero CO2 emissions. Since CDR can account for emissions from sectors that are hard to mitigate, the European Commission has proposed a regulation that will be the first EU-wide voluntary certification framework for high-quality carbon removals. During 1 December 2023 - 23 March 2023, the proposal received feedback from different actors in order to develop methodologies that will enable stakeholders to implement this certification framework. Therefore, since relevant actors' participation in designing the framework is important, the aim of this study is to analyse the feedback and identify potential strengths, weaknesses, areas of agreement, and conflicts of interest in the proposal. Out of the 210 submitted feedback documents that the EU Commission received, 165 documents were analysed in this study. From the feedback, the results of this study show that many actors from different sectors welcome the proposal and believe that it could bring further transparency and trustworthiness to CDR activities which could increase investments in carbon removal solutions. However, a common weakness among the respondents was the lack of clarity in the framework regarding the terminology and the alignment to other regulations and policies. Some conflicts of interest were also identified, surrounding the level of permanence in the included CDR activities, co-benefits, and the representation of actors within the expert groups.

Fatores críticos sobre manifestações de interesse em Parcerias Público-Privadas e as propriedades da visão do produto / Critical success factors of unsolicited proposal in Public-Private Partnerships and product vision properties

Caproni, Tiago Vieira 08 March 2018 (has links)
Unsolicited Proposals (UNPs) are one of the main mechanisms for verifying the feasibility of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP/PFIs/PFIs) projects. However, the lack of clear criteria to evaluate and to prioritize the partner, in a transparent and technical way, has led to adverse selection of proposals increasing the level of failure of these projects. The main instrument used in the PPP/PFIs evaluation is a quantitative analysis based on Value for Money. The purpose of this research was to investigate the problems related with the processes of evaluation of the Unsolicited Proposals (UNPs) that are submitted to the respective government offices. The study compiles the analysis of Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for Public-Private Partnerships (PPP/PFI) and the Unsolicited Proposals (UNPs), identified in the literature, and synthetized by the evaluation of a group of 78 specialists, resulting in the organization of 7 (seven) dimensions to be considered in the evaluation of these projects. This study also demonstrated that, according to these experts, the analysis with VfM would be incomplete and insufficient to capture the complexity of the scope of these projects. As an alternative a set of 7 (seven) indicators where created related to each dimension and a general index that synthetize the performance in the dimensions, considering qualitative and quantitative aspects. The index was labeled as \"T\" index and evaluated by a group of 12 (twelve) experts on PPP/PFI projects. The results from the analyses indicate that the index allows a linear comparative analysis between the proposals received by the public entity requesting the Public- Private Partnership (PPP/PFI) services. The model of indicators decreases the subjectivity of the choices made by public managers, resulting in greater transparency for the process of proposal qualification and security to the market.

Critical performance analysis of Proposal Engineer Pillar (PEP) at Sizophumelela using Mcinsey 7S model

Matu, Nkosinathi George 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MBA (Business Management))--Stellenbosch University, 2008. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The organisations of the 21st century are confronted with continuous changes. It is necessary that organisations respond to these changes to improve the level of their performance. Although the number of change initiatives within organisations is the norm of the day, there are very few successes. One reason for this, the author maintains, is the tendency to usually overemphasise hard elements, and not attend adequately to the soft elements, although the latter often contribute to the success of the organisation. These soft elements are: staff, skills, style of leadership, and shared values. The aim of the study is to enhance organisational performance of the proposal engineering pillar (PEP) of Sizophumelela organisation. This department was chosen because most of the corrective actions requests (CAR) due to non performance at Sizophumelela are from PEP. The main objective of this study is to identify the areas of concern in PEP, to develop an understanding of organisational change and to propose interventions to address and solve problem areas and improve performance. The McKinsey 7S Model was used to analyse the effectiveness of this department at Sizophumelela, an electrical transformer manufacturer and refurbishment business. After the identification of problem areas, interventions are proposed to address these issues. In the literature review an overview of some organisational change models is provided and the limitations of these models are also indicated. Out of these models, the business process re-engineering (BPR) model was viewed as important for this study; hence some aspects of that model form part of proposed interventions to address the identified issues. The McKinsey 7S Model is preferred for the performance analysis of the PEP with its focus on: Strategy, structure, systems, staff, and style of leadership, skills, and shared values. The 7S model is viewed by the author as the model that has the greatest benefit, because both hard and soft elements are focused on. A comprehensive set of material available within the company was used and structured interviews were conducted with all members of the PEP team. With the help of this methodology the strengths and weaknesses were established and some recommendations were made.

Legacy

Almuiña, Susana 27 April 2009 (has links)
I am interested in family secrets and the rules and mores that may constrain family behavior or adversely affect a member’s destiny. I make work that looks askance at the efforts to hide from the world those events or secrets that reflect badly on a family. I look at the places where I have discovered some of them: family furniture and objects around the house, which can shed, metaphorically, the secrets and stories that are part of family tradition. I focus light on the lives of my uncelebrated ancestors and bring them, however briefly, into the collective consciousness.
