The scenario of this research involved education or ethno-racial relations based on discourse analysis of users from a social network, setting as the benchmark, Facebook user posts and the discussion on prejudice which materializes online and spreads over informal and formal educational space. Its relevance is to the extent that it instigated study and construction of educational strategies designed for the challenges of modern day schooling. Our object is to investigate the way in which prejudice materialized through language, on a social network, can be worked in informal and formal educational contexts, noting the importance of using a digital feature to identify phrasal and verbal & non-verbal texts, whose pejorative nature, degrades and stigmatizes the person. The research was supported by language studies based on assumptions from M. Bakhtin, concerning concepts of dialogism and polyphony. Regarding prejudice, our research will be supported by studies from P. Bourdieu, K. Munanga, L. Sansone; C. Furtado, A. Guimarães. The research proposed had the contribution of qualitative research based on dialogic assumption of training research. Therefore, CIVITAS methodology CIVITAS, from the LELIC/PPGIE/UFRGS research group articulated in this thesis, dialog between basic and higher education based on subjects which act in these educational segments. Thus, based on the CIVITAS Project, articulation with Projeto de Vidas/UFMA, the subjects were a group of students from Basic Education from eighth and ninth grade in Middle School and college students from a teaching course registering the feelings attributed by school and college students about a selection of Facebook posts that show a discourse of racial prejudice. The methodological base was identification of words, phrases and images of a pejorative nature. In this sense, such questions were discussed based on language studies to promote ethno-racial relations, making up a study about how formal and informal education can, based on social networks, discuss current and pertinent themes to be worked in school as per Law 11.645/08. It was verified that schools should consider in their curriculum, interdisciplinary and contextualized matter with new technologies and education for ethno-racial relations in the context of different knowledge areas, among them Portuguese and digital genres as a proposal to reflect on inequalities stemming from students’ color/race.

Abstract: This study aims to analyze statistical data about the black person educational history in basic education. It is intended to relate and to question the School Census data, identifying the Brazilian regions with the greater reduction in the black student's proportion over the education levels, in order to relate them to social and political context and to identify mechanisms that influence scholar success or failure of these subjects. It was used for data collection some official sources, such as: IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics); INEP (National Institute of Studies and Research); DIEESE (Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies), as well as other theoretical sources to substantiate data discussions and analysis. From the data analysis, we identified: disparity between the number of black students and brown students at all levels of education, a situation, understood into the bleaching ideal logic; the highest proportion of black students are concentrated in children education, specifically in pre-school; the elementary school final years and high school levels of education represent the smallest proportion of black students, that is, as the passage of years in elementary school, black students gradually disappear from the educational statistics and, therefore, the school. The exclusion of black person is a national problem, not being limited to a specific region, that is, black students suffer the consequences of racial discrimination in every region of the country, and in every level of education. This research reveals the weaknesses and deficiencies in the school census data, and highlights the urgency in improving data collection strategies, as well as the need for increased monitoring and awareness of their importance to society. / Mestrado / Psicologia Educacional / Mestre em Educação

Capitalism, the State and minority ethnic relations in British ColumbiaDutton, Alan William 26 March 2021 (has links)
This study attempts to explain the uneven treatment of Chinese, Japanese and East Indian ethnic minorities in British Columbia in terms of the social, economic and political conditions produced by the development may be discerned. In the first stage, ethnic relations between Asian and European immigrants were ‘cordial’ as employers welcomed relatively cheap Asian labour in an expanding colonial economy. Later, wide spread antagonisms developed between European and Asian workers as capitalists in coal mining, railway construction, fishing and forestry industries began to replace higher priced labour with Asian immigrants in order to increase profit. As state capitalism and the greater regulation and control of the labour process came about in the early 1900's, a new phase of ethnic relations was inaugurated with organized labour increasing its efforts to include minorities in trade unions and broader social reforms.
It is maintained that current theories of West Coast ethnic antagonisms and racial prejudice do not explain this complex history because of their tendency to reify social processes and to assign blame for racism and ethnic antagonisms to; 1) irrational psychological fears arising from cultural diversity, 2) the utilitarian and economic motives of dominant ethnic groups and finally, 3) European racial ideologies. / Graduate

Svartskallar - alltid stämplade för något : En semiotisk innehållsanalys av Stors musikvideo "Svartskallar"Cigarcic, Natasa January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to find out through semiotic analysis and rhetorical tools how the music video “Svartskallar” performed by Swedish artist Stor is being mediated and perceived. The word svartskallar is a Swedish slur and derogatory term used towards immigrants and people of other descent than Scandinavian/Arian. Mostly people with dark attributes, hence the word “blackhead.” The song lyrics poke fun at mundane stereotypes and prejudices that people have towards certain ethnicities, especially minorities that there are a lot of in Sweden. The music video was quite controversial as it depicted a plantation where white people portrayed slaves whilst minorities played the slaveowners. As the video was released it caused a lot of debate online. The analysis has shown that there are many ambiguities in this video that have triggered a lot of reactions. This video has a lot more nuances to it than what is seen at first glance and portrays a lot of subliminal messages. Ultimately there are a lot of more aspects to consider in this debate than solely that of the plot.

The Cyclical Nature of Moral Entrepreneurship.Wolf, Yvonne L. 01 May 2001 (has links) (PDF)
The primary focus of this study was to determine how "moral entrepreneurs" were able to convince the American public to support their anti-drug crusades.
The methodology section consisted of information gathered from primary and secondary sources, and described why these sources were used.
Harry Anslinger and Richard Nixon were used as models to demonstrate how a cycle of moral entrepreneurship existed throughout the twentieth century.
By testing for a cycle of moral entrepreneurship through content analysis of various sources, including descriptive statistics, the same pattern was identified as dominating Reagan's and Bush's anti-drug rhetoric.
Lastly, possible limitations of the study and any implications that the study may have for the reader were discussed.

"At Home in My Father's World" : A Lacanian Psychoanalysis and Feminist Criticism on Scout Finch’s Identity and the Pursuit of the Symbolic OrderBantilan, Rona Grace January 2024 (has links)
This paper takes a psychoanalytic approach to analyse the protagonist Scout Finch’s identity formation and her rebellion against social expectations of femininity. Her aggressiveness plays a central role in her character development, reflecting Maycomb’s societal struggle in dealing with discontent in its social, political, and economic situations. Understanding the dynamics behind her aggression and life choices is examined through Lacanian concepts of lack and desire in the context of the Imaginary and Symbolic Order. Her desires are substantiated explicitly and implicitly through her pursuit of emulating the father figure—the Symbolic Order, and the aggressiveness in her behaviour stems from the premature severance from the Imaginary Order, which parallels the defeat that Maycomb experienced in the American Civil War. As a result, Scout Finch’s identity is heavily influenced by the values and ideologies of the father figure, as well as the social conventions dictated by her society.

The present work aims to investigate if and to what extent history lessons based on the experience of the other can contribute for the student to expand his experiences, to recognize the inequalities originated from racial discrimination, to become able to problematize the discriminatory, prejudiced and intolerant discourses, and develop an attitude of rejection towards racial discrimination. The research developed a situation of research-action in the classroom, involving interview about life history, production of narrative and dramatization, with the theme of education of ethnic-racial relations. It should be noted that these activities were based on the experience and knowledge of black people. The questionnaires and practices were applied to seventh year students of a private school in the south of Paraná. Both for history theorist, Jörn Rüsen, and for Education, Jean Piaget, action on the object is indispensable for the construction of historical learning. This learning, as Rüsen points out, is one of the dimensions and manifestations of historical consciousness, which in turn is the process by which sense is attributed to time. For Piaget, the knowledge construction must be coherent with the cognitive, social and emotional development of the student, which can be enhanced by the experience of the interview about life history, narrative production and dramatization. And these active methodologies carry this construction out in a socially complex way, based on social relations, interaction, exchange of knowledge and linkage with life. Therefore, in order to achieve a consistent understanding of the problem, a research-action was developed with the application of questionnaires before and after the socio-educational practices. In the analysis of the data, the results suggest that the students, who had have little (or none) thoughts about racism, after the strategies listed, began to deconstruct it, with a change of attitude. However, in this process it was possible to identify some active, albeit minor, resistances.

The Black woman, since his early age, is widely discriminated in our society, where woman faces obstacles in any Field of social relations. As punctuated by some authors, she faces barriers in the school environment. In this sense, considering the school as a former of personalities and the 3 of the 4 th cycle of basic education, as the moment in wich the contact with the world of reading and writing should already be set up and especially for being entering the stage of pre-adolescence, it has verified if teaching this level of education in order to contribute to the formation of the black student identity. We investigate, but the teacher’s work, that teaching at this level of education, on the application of wich was sanctioned by Law 10639/03 and Opinion CNE/CP 003/2003, (wich was in March 2008 amended by Law 11645, with the inclusion of indigenous issues) which aim to get above all an education for equality of the ethnic-racial differences.
