A qualitative study about nurses' experiences of working and caring in a Palestine refugee camp in Jordan and methodological reflections while conducting a study within this field

Fröberg, Emmeli, Rolandsson, Anna January 2007 (has links)
Jordan is a developing country and there are ten Palestine refugee camps throughout Jordansince the Arab-Israel conflict in 1948 and the Arab-Israel war in 1967. The camps are run byUnited Nation Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)which is the main provider of health care in the camp. Today, the fourth generation ofrefugees lives in the camps which are extremely overpopulated. The social and economicconditions in the camps are poor. The nurses' workload in the Health care centre in the campis getting harder and UNRWA's resources are getting strained due to funding shortfalls. Weasked ourselves the question: How do the nurses experience providing care for the patientswith limited resources? The aim of this study is to elucidate the nurses' experiences ofworking and caring in a Palestine refugee camp in Jordan and also to describe challengeswhile conducting a qualitative study within this field. Qualitative data were collected byperforming interviews with an open ended question with nurses who are working in one of theHealth care centres in the largest Palestine refugee camp in Jordan. Methodologicalreflections were made out of our experiences while conducting the study. The nurses talkedabout providing good care for the patients and their satisfaction when caring. They alsoreflected over the resources in the Health care centre. Since the Palestine refugee camp is thenurses' home and workplace, a place where they have their professional and private life, itseems that there is a very strong connection between the nurse and the patient. /
Program: Sjuksköterskeutbildning

Uppsatsnivå: C

Characterisation of a data transmission link / Characterisation of a data transmission link

Johansson, Christian, Karlsson, Marcus January 2004 (has links)
This report is the result of a Master Thesis work that has been performed between October 2003 and March 2004. The purpose of the work was to evaluate a part of the signal chain in a product of Micronic Laser Systems AB. The evaluation was performed to obtain the characterisation for the signal chain, such as impedances and crosstalk. The work started with a literature study in order to refresh and increase the knowledge that was needed before the practical work. Then measurements, computer aided simulations and comparisons between these were performed. Measurements were performed using TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry). The results showed the impedance levels along the signal chain. This was interesting since it showed how well the different parts in the system are matched. Unmatched parts result in reflections that disturb the transmitted signal and contribute to crosstalk, which also was measured. Simulations were done using ADS (Advance Design System), a tool from Agilent Technologies Inc. A substantial part of the simulation work was to build models of the real system. These models have been used for simulation. The simulation results were then compared to the measurement results. The results show that the system can be better matched concerning the channel impedance. There are large variations in impedance levels along the signal chain, resulting in signal reflections. Another effect studied is crosstalk between channels. Measurements and simulations showed the presence of crosstalk but it seems to be a minor problem in the current machine.

The development and reflections of elementary school grade three number and operation problem-posing curriculum and instruction

Wu, Chai-hui 12 July 2006 (has links)
This study focuses on the result of problem-posing teaching, covering units on number and operation on third grade elementary school students. The problem-posing teaching method incorporates: teacher formulating problem, discussion and debate, problem-solving activities, and problem-posing activities. This researcher was also the one who carried out teaching. The teachers guide was adapted from the teaching goals of textbook published by KNSH in 1993 and the researcher selected the units on number and operation from the fifth and sixth volumes. We used the teacher¡¦s math diaries, videotapes of actual teaching sessions, observation notes on teaching records, students¡¦ feedback surveys, and interviews of students. The objectives of this study are: 1. developing and integrating problem-posing into mathematics curriculum; 2. promoting students¡¦ ability in communication; and, 3. reflecting upon practice on problem-posing instruction through action research. There results are three results. First, when comparing performances of experimental class to control group, 5 out of 9 units were having statistical significance and 4 were not. Second, students¡¦ ability in communication improved after problem-posing instruction. Third, two challenges were identified when teachers implemented the problem-posing activities.

Digital implementation of an upstream DOCSIS QAM modulator and channel emulator

2015 June 1900 (has links)
The concept of cable television, originally called community antenna television (CATV), began in the 1940's. The information and services provided by cable operators have changed drastically since the early days. Cable service providers are no longer simply providing their customers with broadcast television but are providing a multi-purpose, two-way link to the digital world. Custom programming, telephone service, radio, and high-speed internet access are just a few of the services offered by cable service providers in the 21st century. At the dawn of the internet the dominant mode of access was through telephone lines. Despite advances in dial-up modem technology, the telephone system was unable to keep pace with the demand for data throughput. In the late 1990's an industry consortium known as Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. developed a standard protocol for providing high-speed internet access through the existing CATV infrastructure. This protocol is known as Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) and it helped to usher in the era of the information superhighway. CATV systems use different parts of the radio frequency (RF) spectrum for communication to and from the user. The downstream portion (data destined for the user) consumes the bulk of the spectrum and is located at relatively high frequencies. The upstream portion (data destined to the network from the user) of the spectrum is smaller and located at the low end of the spectrum. This lower frequency region of the RF spectrum is particularly prone to impairments such as micro-reflections, which can be viewed as a type of multipath interference. Upstream data transfer in the presence of these impairments is therefore problematic and requires complex signal correction algorithms to be employed in the receiver. The quality of a receiver is largely determined by how well it mitigates the signal impairments introduced by the channel. For this reason, engineers developing a receiver require a piece of equipment that can emulate the channel impairments in any permutation in order to test their receiver. The conventional test methodology uses a hardware RF channel emulator connected between the transmitter and the receiver under test. This method not only requires an expensive RF channel emulator, but a functioning analog front-end as well. Of these two problems, the expense of the hardware emulator is likely less important than the delay in development caused by waiting for a functional analog front-end. Receiver design is an iterative, time consuming process that requires the receiver's digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms be tested as early as possible to reduce the time-to-market. This thesis presents a digital implementation of a DOCSIS-compliant channel emulator whereby cable micro-reflections and thermal noise at the analog front-end of the receiver are modelled digitally at baseband. The channel emulator and the modulator are integrated into a single hardware structure to produce a compact circuit that, during receiver testing, resides inside the same field programmable gate array (FPGA) as the receiver. This approach removes the dependence on the analog front-end allowing it to be developed concurrently with the receiver's DSP circuits, thus reducing the time-to-market. The approach taken in this thesis produces a fully programmable channel emulator that can be loaded onto FPGAs as needed by engineers working independently on different receiver designs. The channel emulator uses 3 independent data streams to produce a 3-channel signal, whereby a main channel with micro-reflections is flanked on either side by adjacent channels. Thermal noise normally generated by the receiver's analog front-end is emulated and injected into the signal. The resulting structure utilizes 43 dedicated multipliers and 401.125 KB of RAM, and achieves a modulation error ratio (MER) of 55.29 dB.

Espaços especulares : articulações entre o real e o virtual

Borne, Bruno Silva January 2013 (has links)
Specular Spaces: articulations between the real and the virtual is a study in visual arts. The main theme from which the work is based is creating relationships between real spaces and virtual spaces. Two creative concepts underlie the artistic process: the use of specular reflections and the site-specific. These concepts will be addressed in two different ways: the use of mirrors in the visual arts will be based on the notion of Mirror as a Device, whereas the site-specific is related to the concept of Aesthetics of Opacity, bound to film theory. The object of study is comprised of nineteen artworks created in the period of 2008 to 2013. They are artworks produced by hybrid techniques that utilizes procedures of architecture, computer graphics and visual arts. As a research methodology, the processes and creative concepts will be analyzed related to theoretical and practical examples.

This study aims to develop a collaborative research dialogical character design, with eight teachers from a public school in Pontal do Araguaia city, State of Mato Grosso, in order to meet their theoretical and methodological concepts of teaching and learning of reading, but also, provide reflections on the teaching and learning of reading practices, from what is put in the MEC benchmarks and SEDUC of Mato Grosso State. The research proposal arose from concerns of our teachers, as a teacher trainer, observing that teachers felt great difficulties in understanding the fundamentals of the National Curriculum Standards and Curriculum Guidelines. So we aim to observe the reflections of teachers about the content you turn to the learning of reading. Thus, elaborate studies of meetings with teachers, which have entitled "Literacy (s) teacher (s): reflections on teaching reading in class" for data collection of this research. The research methodology includes aspects of dialogical and collaborative nature of action research and Bakhtin's vision of research in the Humanities. Our analyzes revealed that studies the group could raise good thoughts on the theoretical concepts that support the curriculum documents. The data indicate that the speeches of these teachers were partly influenced by the theoretical contributions, interaction with peers and the researcher, who has also evolved in their learning by participating in this (re) construction of meaning and concept as it sought to reflect on their own practice.
