This study examines how Halmstads municipality is working with residents participation in East Halmstad and what attitude residents have. The aim is to gain a better understanding of which municipal representatives and residents experiences, and who is included and represented. Also, to find out if there is an interest among residents to participate in area development. The material is reached through semistructured interviews and a hermeneutic approach is used. Further, four sociological theories are central; Rolf Lidskog's theory of public space, Jan Inge Jönhills distinguishing couple inclusion/exclusion, Don Mitchell's concept of the right to the city and Kevin Murphy's definition of social sustainability. The result shows that the municipality works with residents participation, but it does not have a common definition of the concept. The municipality only includes certain social groups and it is unclear if all residents are represented, although there is an interest among residents to participate. The residents don´t have knowledge of the municipality's work and Halmstads municipality has an equal vision, but some areas needs to be developed in order for the work to be socially sustainable.

Exploring the Residents' Attitude towards Greening Buildings and their Willingness to take action: An Empirical Survey Study in Deutz, CologneBurggraf, Tamina January 2020 (has links)
In times that reveal the consequences of climate change, cities are using urban greening as a potential measure in their climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies. Greenery in the city regulates the climate and balances temperature extremes through evapotranspiration and air humidification, spending shade and increased air circulation. Many cities in Germany, such as the City of Cologne, have established funding programmes for private stakeholders to support the greening of buildings. Greened buildings contribute to a reduction of the urban heat island effect by decreasing temperatures through increased evapotranspiration, increased air circulation and air humidification and a higher reflective power (albedo). The greening of buildings also cools down the building itself forming a natural insulation layer, shading and the reflection of sun energy. However, in most cities the potential for houses that could be greened is barely utilized. This study explores variables that influence the residents’ attitudinal and behavioural acceptance towards greening their building in Cologne Deutz. Survey research was conducted based on a theoretical framework that explains how external variables form beliefs that lead to attitudinal acceptance (positive attitude) and eventually behavioural acceptance (actual behaviour). The survey was designed to examine attitudinal acceptance and behavioural intention to act, as behavioural acceptance is difficult to measure. The main variables found to influence the residents’ attitudinal acceptance and behavioural intention towards the greening of buildings were ecological aspects, such as an increase of nature in the urban environment, an improvement of the urban climate, air quality and street cooling, and climate change. Visual-aesthetic aspects also played a major role, while finances and funding possibilities had a special influence on the perceived ease of use of greening one’s building. Amongst the sample of this study attitudinal acceptance and behavioural intention were categorized as high. Reasons that could explain the low amount of greening measure implementation were a possible lack of knowledge (of funding possibilities), a low number of private property owners, and an imbalance in the distribution of tangible advantages and disadvantages amongst tenants and landlords.

During transition of care, inaccurate medication reconciliation is associated with increased risk of adverse events for patients. Older adults are the population most often affected by medication errors, and long-term care facilities struggle to accurately document medication reconciliation. Errors are more common at hospital discharge, but the critical moment for detecting and resolving them is during hospital or long-term care admission. Guided by Rosswurm and Larrabee's model for change, Rogers' diffusion of innovation, and the Multi-Center Medication Reconciliation Quality Improvement toolkit, a 6-member interdisciplinary team composed of nurses, pharmacists, and institutional stakeholders was mobilized to develop policy and practice guidelines as well as secondary documentation necessary to implement and evaluate a quality improvement initiative to address medication reconciliation. Current evidence was explored and used to develop policy and practice guidelines for medication reconciliation, then submitted to 4 scholars, including 2 practice experts, a nurse administrator, and a specialist in pharmacy, to validate content. Scholarly validation supported the premise that the developed products would be beneficial in the accurate documentation of medication reconciliation. Scholarly feedback was evaluated by comparing to current best practices for medication reconciliation. Implementation, education, and evaluation plans were developed to guide operationalization of policy and practice guidelines. This project may positively affect social change by fostering a new practice policy, practice guidelines, and supporting documents to manage medication reconciliation of long-term care residents transitioning to acute care settings, thereby improving medication safety at transitions of care for vulnerable populations.

Residents’ perceptions of tourism development in Bali : A comparative field study in Canggu and UbudEriksson, Maja, Roos, Jessica, Helmer, Filippa January 2023 (has links)
The rapid and to some extent uncontrolled tourism expansion in Bali is likely to have major impacts on the island and its residents. Tourism development in Bali is a top priority for economic growth and is the main economic sector on the island. Sustainable tourism has become an increasingly important and recognized topic due to tourism’s inherent nature to generate both positive and negative economic, socio-cultural and environmental impacts. Sustainable tourism development is about striking a balance between meeting the needs of local communities, satisfying tourist demand and protecting the natural environment. Residents of host communities are seen as a vital component of the tourism experience as they are the first to interact with tourists. The residents' perceptions are essential to assessing the feasibility of all types of development initiatives, as well as their perceptions are of great importance linked to their personal well-being. Social exchange theory (SET) and triple bottom line (TBL) were used as theoretical frameworks to fulfil the purpose of this study. The study aimed to create an understanding of how residents in Bali experienced the island’s tourism development, and whether and how it differed between residents of the two different destinations: Ubud and Canggu. By examining Bali residents' perceptions of tourism on the island, a small contribution can be made to tourism research from a resident-centric perspective. In turn, this can contribute to subjective indications concerning tourism that are likely to be important in a developing island context. The results showed that the perceived economic benefits outweighed both the socio-cultural, and environmental perceived costs. This result can be interpreted as being due to the residents' strong dependency on tourism, where their vulnerability should be taken into account in sustainable tourism development.

Saudi Arabian Students in Postgraduate Dental Programs: Investigating Factors Associated with BurnoutAmal, Asiri 01 January 2019 (has links) (PDF)
Burnout related to emotional and physical study or work demands affects an individual’s performance and well being. This study focused on Saudi Arabian dental residents studying in the United States and the United Kingdom who are faced with many challenges in pursuit of a higher education degree. A survey including demographic and MBI questions was distributed to assess this population’s level of burnout. The Maslach Burnout inventory (MBI) was has been widely used in the literature to assess three components of burnout: emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DEP), and (diminished) personal accomplishment (PA). Potential predictors of burnout level, tested for statistical significance, included: (1) country (US vs UK), (2) hours of work, (3) sponsorship status, (4) marital status (5) gender and (6) prior work experience. Using multiple regression analyses, those found to predict EE included hours of work, sponsorship status, and gender. Only gender was found to predict PA. None of the variables were predictive of DEP. Moreover, after controlling for the demographic variables, the country where studying did not help account for level of burnout. Limitations of the study, implications for practice and suggestions for further research are offered in the discussion.

Rätten till ett meningsfullt liv : En litteraturstudie om hur äldre personer utan kognitiva sjukdomar upplever livet på vårdhem / The right to a meaningful life : A literature study on how elderly people without major neurocognitive disorders experience life in nursing homesPersson, Isa, Kyrö Cakmak, Emma January 2023 (has links)
Förslag till framtida forskning är att lägga till ett genusperspektiv för att få en förståelse för könsskillnader / Previous research shows differences in the experience of nursing staff and the residents in nursing homes on which factors are important for a good quality of care. For that reason, it is important to compile experiences from the residents in order to get a holistic picture and develop person-centered nursing in nursing homes. Aim: Describe how elderly people without major neurocognitive disorders experience life in nursing homes. Methods: A literature study where the qualitative result from 15 studies became object of qualitative content analysis which was conducted with inductive approach. Result: The four main categories that emerged from the analysis and describe how elderly people without major neurocognitive disorders experience life in nursing homes were: There are areas for improvement at the nursing home, The relationship to staff impacts on nursing, Passing the time and share one's existence, Autonomy for a meaningful day to day life. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate the aspects of person-centredness and preservation of autonomy on which the interpersonal relationship between the resident and staff is founded. It is an important tool to instil a meaningful day to day life for residents in nursing homes. Life could be improved with better working conditions and trained staff and social relations with like-minded peers and activities for the residents. Suggestions for future research is to add a gender perspective to gain understanding of gender differences.

Between ‘Place-Branding’ and ‘Sense of Place’ in the Nordics : A comparative study through two generations of Nordic residents in Stockholm.Djelloul, Iman Miriam January 2023 (has links)
Place branding refers to the strategical act of attaching a positive reputation to a geographical place. This concept is argued important due to its ability to boost places with advantageous lead when globally competing over financial, cultural and human resources. In 2015, the Nordic Council of Ministers accordingly adopted an official strategy for how to internationally brand the Nordic Region. The strategy includes illustrations of the Region, along with detailed goals on how the Nordics – natively called ‘Norden’ – should be associated and perceived. Nevertheless, when dissecting the elements of which place-brands are made up by, it is found that residents ‘sense of place’ form an essential component to the quality and success of the place-brand. At the same time, it is recognized that people belonging to different generational groups typically carry different social and cultural frames of references, eventually influencing their perception of the world and potentially even their experienced sense of place. This study has therefore aimed to examine the convergence between the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Place Branding strategy and the ‘sense of place’ experienced by residents of the Region. Additionally, by comparing results between two generational groups; the ‘Gen-z’s’ and the ‘Boomers’. Practically by answering up to the following research questions: (1) How is Nordic residents experienced ‘sense of place’ differing between generational groups? And (2) How are the outcomes in RQ1 standing in relation to the Nordic place branding strategy? The study has applied a qualitative methodology using surveys and gathering data from a total of 94 respondents, of which 49 have belonged to the Gen-z group and 45 to the Boomer group. Concludingly, it has been found that residents’ sense of place in the Nordics in fact is differing between generational groups. In broad, the differences are reflected by a strong sense of Nordic belongingness among Boomers, however, in combination with a sense of the Nordics that is further away from what the strategy is intending to communicate. On the other hand, the Gen-z’s are found to have significantly lower sense of Nordic belongingness, although, together with a more positive sense of the Nordics, that also is more in line with strategy.
