Transgressões em O Deus das Pequenas Coisas, de Arundhati Roy: níveis e motivações em contraponto / Transgressions in The God of Small Things, from Arundhati Roy: levels and motivations in correlation

Moura, Taís Leite de 10 April 2018 (has links)
In The God of Small Things (1997), from Arundhati Roy, the transgressions are substantial throughout the narrative, as the majority of them are performed by marginalized characters. In order to comprehend more deeply the reasons which propel the narrative and the characters to such violations, they were divided into three levels in this work: post-colonial, socio-political and affective. The transgressions analyzed here are the ones performed by the characters Velutha, Ammu, Estha, Rahel and Sophie. The levels of the transgressions, their motivations and the concepts of individual and cultural trauma are all correlated so that the intentions of the narrative are elucidated. In the post-colonial level, the concepts of Panikkar (1969), Festino (2007), Forter (2014) and Outka (2011) are applied, whereas Sztompka (2000, 2004), Alexander (2000) and Joseph (2010) are used for the socio-political level; the affective level is observed with notions from Caruth (1995), Bose (1998) and Almeida (2002). The hypothesis of this work is that Roy focuses on the transgressions of minor characters not only to criticize particular elements from the Indian society but also to trigger the reaction of the readers. This is supported by her essays and speeches quoted along the analysis of the novel.

Caminho aberto: o trabalho em papel e vídeo / Open path: the work on paper and video

Angela Varela Loeb 22 April 2015 (has links)
This study is part of the artistic work over PHD course. On the one hand, it addresses the process of this work on paper and on video, seeking to inform the reader the choices present in the implementation, as well as reflect on some notions that feed the process. They are: \"lack of symbolization\", indissociation, unblock, fluxus and \"use of a minimal form\". On the other one, in line with these notions, the study approaches to a group of art historical names that dialogues with my process for conceptual, methodological or formal contiguity. Three artists are studied: Lucio Fontana (1899 - 1968), Roy Lichtenstein (1923 - 1997) and Gordon Matta-Clark (1945-1978). The images of the work done on paper during the course are part of this document as well as a DVD with the developed recorded videos.

Realismo e redes: dilemas metodológicos na obra de Anthony Giddens / Realism and networks: methodological dilemmas in the work of Anthony Giddens

Fábio Rodrigues Ribeiro da Silva 10 August 2010 (has links)
This work raises methodological and epistemological questions regarding Anthony Giddens theory of structuration, issues that have been acknowledged and debated by several of his critics. Following clues found in Giddens own texts, it analyses more deeply some works by Mary Hesse and Roy Bhaskar, searching for elements that would help with a methodological reconstruction of Giddens theory. Finally, it argues for greater attention towards Hesses network model, as a much more fruitful tool for analyzing Giddens than Bhaskars critical realism, in order to attempt to solve the dilemmas that Giddens faces. Also included are translations of several articles written by Giddens most important critics, and two papers by Giddens himself, previously unavailable in Portuguese.

Att leva med Crohns sjukdom och ulcerös kolit : en litteraturöversikt över patienters upplevelser av det dagliga livet / Living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis : a literature review of patients' experiences of daily life

Frostell, Aleksandra, Stark, Annika January 2017 (has links)
Background: Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic inflammatory bowel diseases that have increased significantly in recent decades. The diseases can debut at all ages, and they have a negative effect on the patients´ quality of life. A nurse has an important part of ensuring that patients receive sufficient information and support to manage their self-care. Aim: The purpose was to illuminate how patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis experienced the effects of the symptoms in their daily lives and how they adapted to the disease. Method: A literature review based on eleven nursing studies with qualitative design was conducted. The studies were analyzed based on the chosen purpose and key findings were compiled under two main themes. Results: The literature review illustrated how the participants experienced the symptoms of the disease and what impact they had on everyday life. The impact on family life, relationships, social contexts and working life were described. In summary, the disease was an obstacle. The emotional impact of the disease and how the participants perceived that they suffered from an invisible disease were described. Finally, what attitudes the participants had towards life, what strategies were used to manage the disease, and that acceptance of the disease was important for learning to handle it. Discussion: The findings have been discussed based on Callista Roys adaptation model and linked to other scientific studies. Life with a chronic disease involves constant changes, and the nurse can help the patient to achieve balance by identifying factors that affect the adaptation.

Rodriguez, Jennifer 05 1900 (has links)
In 1966, René Le Roy (1898-1985) and his student Claude Dorgeuille co-authored Traité de la flûte historique, technique et pedagogique. This treatise presents the culmination of Le Roy's career as a renowned performer and teacher in both Europe and North America. His approach to the study of music, as presented in the method, diverges from traditional French training, instructing teachers to compose exercises specific to the needs of the student and by using repertoire as source material. Claude Dorgeuille writes of the method, "...the Traité gives an outline analysis of the principal elements of technique, thus allowing exercises to be devised as appropriate to the needs of the individual." Using Le Roy's treatise, I demonstrate the application of his teaching to Jacques Ibert's Deux stèles orientées pour voix et flûte (1925), a work dedicated to and premiered by Le Roy, through the creation of individual exercises tailored to preparation of Ibert's work.

Roy Harris' American Symphony - 1938: A Perspective on Its Historical Significance and Autogenetic Elements With a Performance of a Reconstructed Modern Wind Ensemble Edition

Lamb, Brian 05 1900 (has links)
American composer Roy Harris began writing a symphony for the Tommy Dorsey band in 1938, but the piece was never completed. This dissertation project chronicles the events surrounding the interesting collaboration between the composer and the bandleader, including problems incurred during the rehearsal process, the eventual abandonment of the project, and the discovery of the little-known band work. The paper includes information on the composer's life and works, an in-depth discussion of the compositional technique that Harris called “autogenesis,” and a detailed analysis of the two surviving movements of the band piece. The piece is also discussed comparatively with other significant works in Harris' symphonic genre, most notably his Folksong Symphony, also known as his Fourth Symphony. A significant portion of the research and preparation for the project was spent reconstructing a modern wind ensemble edition of the two surviving movements. A complete score of the reconstructed edition is included as part of this project.

Witek, Magdalena Marta January 2023 (has links)
Background: Elderly with hearing loss are vulnerable in the society, even in nursing homes. Hearing loss among elderly is perceived as problematic and can lead to complex situations in everyday life. Nursing staff is responsible for the care of all people, regardless of condition. Nursing staff interactions with elderly people who have hearing loss can affect nursing careoutcome. Problem: Hearing loss affects elderly´s everyday life, where problems in nursing can arise. The goal of the work is to identify nursing staff’s experiences of nursing care for elderly with hearing loss. Aim: The aim was to create an overview of the care staff's experiences of nursing for elderly with hearing loss in nursing homes. Ground<c> : a metaverse learning strategy for the creative fields

Ayiter, Elif January 2012 (has links)
In this thesis I cover the theoretical framework and the practice based implications of bringing the fundamental principles of a cybernetic art educational strategy, the Groundcourse, which was developed and taught during the 1960’s in England by Roy Ascott, into the virtual, three dimensional builder’s world of the metaverse; to be implemented there as a non-institutional, voluntary, self-directed, adult oriented learning system for avatars – one which is expected to be taught by avatar instructors who will formulate the specifics of their curriculum and their methods based upon the cardinal tenets of the Groundcourse, which have been summarized by Roy Ascott as a flexible structure, “within which everything can find its place, and every individual his way,” which would give dimension and substance to the will to create and to change. In order to be able to set the groundwork for the adaptation of the Groundcourse’s principles to my model I have conducted literature reviews in experiential learning theories, with an emphasis on self-directed learning; as well as cybernetic learning. These I have combined with a survey of play theory and virtual world studies, particularly those focusing upon the avatar and metaverse creativity. From all of these I have woven together a foundation which I have combined with a visual documentation which may serve as case studies for my proposal. The new knowledge embodied through this thesis is a learning system for the creative fields that is designed specifically for the residents of online virtual worlds, and yet has its foundations in an earlier, well established and well regarded model.
