Marcotte, Sophie, 1973- January 2000 (has links)
Gabrielle Roy kept up, throughout her literary life, a regular correspondence with relatives, friends, business relations and readers: to date, more than 2000 letters have been preserved in different archive collections. The 482 letters she wrote to her husband, Doctor Marcel Carbotte, between 1947 and 1979, form the largest subset of the correspondence; a critical edition of these hitherto unpublished letters is presented in the second part of the thesis. / Surprisingly, the correspondence contains few reflexions of an aesthetic nature, and few explicit traces of the novelist's published work, apart from occasional references to the texts she is working on at the moment she is writing to Marcel. Instead, it is the details of her day-to-day life that Roy describes most abundantly. In the first part of the thesis, we study the letters to Marcel in the light of a possible connection with Roy's canonical work: we start by examining the link between the letter and autobiographical genre; we then show that the letters to Marcel can be read as a personal diary; finally, we suggest that the "autobiographical turn" taken by Roy in both her published work and her letters to Marcel indicates that the letters form part of the same system as the autobiographical works.

This research proposes to understand documentation in dance as a possible choreographic act able of activate/actualize dance memories using itself as media. his study. This study also seeks to understand the action of choreographic documentation as a politically involved practice within their context and in its history, considering its aesthetic and procedural choices. For the use of the concept of choreography, as well as contemporary discussions on documentation in arts, I especially used texts from the authors Luís Cláudio Costa (2009), Jacques Rancière (2005), Giorgio Agamben (2009) e André Lepecki (2007/2010/2013). These concepts are developed in the analysis of the work "Retrospective" (2012), by Xavier Le Roy, who reorganized his preview solo works in a new compositional construction. Methodologically, the analysis of this work draws on theoretical parameters developed by the researcher Bojana Cvejic (2013), for whom it is possible to split the notion of performance in three modes of different durations - Creating, Performing and Attending - which lead to different experiences. The choice of having the Le Roy's work as the central focus of this dissertation is also supported by the fact that the author of this research have experienced this work in the three modes proposed by Cvejic - Creating, Performing and Attending - and it is possible, in this perspective, to enhance the theoretical and artistic bond of analysis invested here.

The function and nature of conventions and hypotheses according to French conventionalism by the turn of the XIX century to the XX: relations between science and metaphysics in the works of Henri Poincaré, Pierre Duhem and Édouard Le Roy

In this work, we present the function and we determine the nature of conventions and hypotheses for the scientific foundations according with the conventionalist doctrine that arose in France during the turning of the XIX century to the XX. The doctrine was composed by Henri Poincaré, Pierre Duhem and Édouard Le Roy. Moreover, we analyze the relation that conventions and hypotheses can establish with metaphysical thesis through criteria used by scientists in order to determine the preference for certain theories. Thereunto, we promote an immanent interpretation of published works between 1891 and 1905. As result, we reveal that the authors, though being classified as belonging to the same doctrine, don't have only common grounds, but also divergences. Poincaré and Le Roy agree that geometrical conventions are chosen in accordance with convenience criteria. However, they disagree about the value convenience aggregate to scientific knowledge. In regards to natural phenomena, the three authors agree that reality can't be described univocally by the same set of conventions and hypotheses. Yet, Poincaré and Duhem both believe that there are experimental, rational and axiological criteria that justify scientists satisfaction with certain theories and we indicate how those criteria are related with metaphysics. We conclude that conventionalists, even if warily and implicitly, searched to approach metaphysics in order to justify scientific activity.

Pithan, Flávia Ataide January 2008 (has links)

Such images are responsible for the generation of a proper visual language instituted by the contemporary visual communication, once there is identification of post-modern man with the artist style. The Deep Hermeneutics of John Thompson has been the methodology chosen to enable the development of this thesis. lnitially it is approached the history of visual communication and its transformations influenced by technologies. After that, it is treated the theoretical questions related to the image and imaginary. The vanguards are approached in what concerns Pop Art, artistic movement which Lichtenstein has participated and that anticipates the man visualization post-modern. The Lichtenstein Style is appropriate by the post-modern visual communication, because, between other factors, it is more easily employed through the new informatics technologies. In this way, the limitations inherent to previous periods related with creation, production and reproduction of images has been overcome. The modern images of the artist are analyzed and interpreted to subsequently provide contributions to the understanding of the post-modern appropriations. The images are easily interpreted by the contemporary man by the imaginary, because they are harmonized with the characteristics of today sociocultural configuration, the post-modern condition. His images involve the notions of design, of reproduction, of simplification, of direct communication (commercial communication), of work in group, of appropriation, of rereading and even the banality’s aesthetics. These notions permeate the contemporary visual communication, being Lichtenstein a revolutionary artist. It has noticed that the image is an important vector of socialization and that the exchange between areas such as art, publicity, design, and popular culture powers the visual communication.

Faktorer som påverkar upplevt välbefinnande hos patienter inom den palliativa hemsjukvården : en litteraturöversikt / Factors affecting the experience of well-being in patients in palliative home care : a literature review

Berg, Simon, Mansour, Maxim January 2017 (has links)
Background: The development of society and the ongoing medical change have contributed to the development of palliative home care. It has become increasingly common for patients to choose to be treated palliatively at home. One of the key concepts in healthcare is the well-being, this term can be seen as a subjective concept and closely linked to quality of life. Well-being means experiencing mild suffering and being satisfied with their life situation. Healthcare professionals working in palliative home care describe several factors that they consider to be of importance to the patient's experience of well-being and good palliative care. Aim: To illuminate affecting factors of well-being in adult patients in the palliative home care. Method: This degree project has been carried out as a literature review where 13 scientific articles have been studied. The articles were analyzed by Friberg’s method and the foundations and differences regarding the patient's perception of well-being were presented in three themes. Results: Based on analysis of scientific articles, three themes were created: relationships, hope and a secure base. The perception of well-being in patients proved to be linked to factors affecting a secure base, hope and relationships. Discussion: The method was discussed based on the chosen method and the articles strengths and weaknesses. The result was discussed based on other studies in the same areas as well as Calista Roy’s adaptation model.

Identity Formation : A Process Entwining Generations

Hatami, Azade January 2002 (has links)
The core of this essay is the book "The God of Small Things" written by the Indian novelist Arundhati Roy. The strong power of both caste systems or traditional principles and politics is the starting-point of this essay. For this reason, as the center of this tale is a Hindu family of high caste, and consequently very traditional, the identity of the women in the book are of great interest. The women in "The God of Small Things" are very fascinating not only for the reason that they are strongly influenced by their life stories, but even more for the influence their actions and identities have on their children. Of course, none of them can be judged for the shape of their identity, as they all are a merger of culture, religion and politics. More exactly, the divided identities of these women are discussed in relation to firstly their Hindu identity acquired by their society and traditions, and secondly their colonial/post-colonial identity nearly imposed upon them by the colonial forces. In this essay I discuss and analyse three generations of women, a total of four characters. In addition, two other characters are used in order to illustrate the differences that women from the colonizing country (Great Britain) hold in contrast to women from the colonized country (India).
