A Latter-day Saint Home Education: Passing On a Goodly HeritageBirch, Abbie Jane 01 August 1994 (has links) (PDF)
Education is examined within the context of religious beliefs and values found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). Education is defined as the process of becoming like God. An investigation is conducted into the stewardship and responsibility parents have for the education of their children. This responsibility is determined to be a sacred stewardship that cannot simply be delegated to others in society. All education is shown to be religious in nature. Conflicts between the beliefs and values of different members of society are found to be at the heart of many of the difficulties in education. The secularization of Western civilization and education is described. The history of public schooling in America is examined, and the current status of the public school system is analyzed. On the basis of this analysis, parents are urged to be more vigilant in attending to the responsibilities of educating their children. Several suggestions are made for how parents can become more responsible for the education of their children, and one of these options, home schooling, is explored in some depth. Two Latter-day Saint home-schooling families are examined using qualitative research methods. Their philosophy of education is considered at length and described in detail. The methods they employ in the education of their children are investigated and described. A detailed account of a week in the life of each family is also included. The study closes with an examination of what it means for parents to pass a goodly heritage on to their children. Passing on a rich heritage is found to consist in seeking the Spirit of the Lord, following the counsel of Church leaders, and keeping the commandments of God.

The Search for the Sacred in Gabrielle RoySumsion, Ann Elizabeth 20 November 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Many anthropological studies have shown the prevalence of the sacred in primitive societies, manifested primarily in significant gestures such as exchanges, rituals, festivals, and the use of time and space. Some studies, in particular those of Roger Caillois and Mircea Eliade, have demonstrated that traces of the sacred, though seemingly displaced, remain present in modern and secular societies. This thesis will examine and bring to light these remnants of sacred behavior in the contemporary settings of the stories of Gabrielle Roy, focusing primarily on food-sharing, gift-giving, and festivals. Each analysis presented will detail how different aspects of the sacred are manifested in contemporary, though fictional, society, and each will permit individuals to identify ways in which modern man, whether religious or secular, is still very connected to sacred practices.

[en] FOR AN INTEGRAL BIBLE ANIMATION OF LIFE AND PASTORAL WORK: THEOLOGICAL AND PASTORAL CONCEPTUALIZATION FROM THE EXPERIENCE OF BIBLE CIRCLES IN THE DIOCESE OF CACHOEIRO DE ITAPEMIRIM-ES / [pt] POR UMA ANIMAÇÃO BÍBLICA INTEGRAL DA VIDA E DA PASTORAL: CONCEITUAÇÃO TEOLÓGICO-PASTORAL A PARTIR DA EXPERIÊNCIA DOS CÍRCULOS BÍBLICOS NA DIOCESE DE CACHOEIRO DE ITAPEMIRIM-ESJOÃO BATISTA MARONI 04 April 2022 (has links)
A principal base desta pesquisa é a experiência
[en] The Bible Animation of Pastoral Work was enshrined by Pope Benedict
XVI in the Apostolic Exhortation Verbum Domini and has become common in the
Church, as well as its practice has been urgent. The Animation has been called to
be the soul of all pastoral work, its importance lies in the rediscovery of the Word
of God as the source and content of all evangelizing action of the Church. In this
research, it was proposed a Bible Animation that is Integral and reaches Life and
Pastoral; that could be the source of all evangelizing action, thus composing its
proposition: Integral Bible Animation of Life and Pastoral Work. The term
Integral is understood here as what is presented in its entirety, or as a property of
the integral being, and the noun Life, as what is experienced by human reality in its
various aspects and dimensions. The theological axiom Lex oranid, lex credendi
and lex vivendi was taken as the basis of this proposition, with regard to the mystery
that is celebrated, believed and experienced. It is understood that the Bible
Animation of Life and Pastoral Work takes place when these three dimensions are
complemented by the Word of God that circulates among them and unites them.
The main basis of this research is the pastoral experience of the Bible Circles of the
diocese of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim-ES, between 2010 and 2019, that was taken as
an example. The pastoral path taken by the Word of God from the Apostolic period
(1st century) to the promulgation of the Dogmatic Constitution Dei Verbum and its
repercussions until the appearance of the proposition Bible Animation of Pastoral
Work was also visited. The fundamental in the entire process of this research is the
rediscovery of the Word of God in the liturgy and prayer, in catechesis and in
personal, community and social experience, in an integrative circularity that unites
these three moments. The Integral Bible Animation of Life and Pastoral Work,
proposed here, presents itself as a contribution to the repercussion of the Bible
Animation of Pastoral proposition, with regard to conceptual understanding and
service to bible pastoral.

[pt] OS SACRAMENTOS COMO FORÇAS QUE SAEM DO CORPO DE CRISTO: UM CONTRIBUTO AO CONCEITO DE SACRAMENTO À LUZ DA TEOLOGIA DO CONCÍLIO VATICANO II / [en] THE SACRAMENTS AS POWERS THAT COMES FORTH FROM THE BODY OF CHRIST: A CONTRIBUTION TO THE CONCEPT OF SACRAMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE THEOLOGY OF THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCILANDERSON BATISTA MONTEIRO 25 May 2022 (has links)
À luz do Concílio Vaticano II é
As ações simbólicas provocam
[en] The main purpose of this thesis is to contribute to a renewed concept of the
sacraments of the Church, starting from the liturgical theology of the symbolic
actions of the prophets of Israel and Jesus. With the advance of biblical research,
patristic and dogmatic, it has been possible to explore a more biblical and ecclesial
concept of the sacraments celebrated by the Church. In the light of the Second
Vatican Council, the liturgical nature of the prophetic acts performed by the
prophets and by Jesus is outlined. As signs of God s power, inserted in salvation
history, these acts are prolonged in the world today through the liturgy of the
Church. Inserted in the last stage of the historia salutis, the sacraments are divine
acts that reveal Christ s saving presence in the world and anticipate the
eschatological fulfillment of the kingdom of God. Therefore, the sacraments as
prophetic acts of the Church want to bring about a renewed expression of the
liturgical acts of the Church. The symbolic actions cause a response, making the
Christian participate actively in the mystery and understand that the sacraments are
acts that have a transforming force in their own life, in the Church, and in the whole
world.

Silence, Darkness and Light: The Grand Egyptian MuseumAli, Ahmed Kamal 10 March 2004 (has links)
How can the unique legacy of the most ancient of civilizations be represented within a single building? How can one building spans the area between heaven and earth, the space described in the cosmology of our pharonic ancestors?
Certainly, to design such a building is a unique challenge, and an unprecedented opportunity, on this most privileged of sites in the history of mankind, that a museum is to be constructed capable of linking the immemorial past with the distant future spanning both the horizons of the ancients and those as yet unseen.
Through the investigation of phenomenology, geometry, simplicity, purity and light, listening to the voice of silence, emerging to the light from the darkness, and by understanding the strength of simplicity after passing through complexity, This thesis offers an endless stream of ideas that challenge the mind.
The vision for the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is to establish a place where people from different nations and cultures will be able to immerse themselves in the rich culture heritage from more than 5.000 years of Egyptian civilization. With the support of new technology, more effective and efficient dissemination of information can be achieved, enabling the New Museum to be a source of enjoyable, entertaining, educational and cultural experiences for all visitors.
This project aims at structuring a complex of exhibits and facilities, which will accommodate all Pharaonic periods, it will be the largest museum in the world, and will provide access to information and future knowledge. It results from the careful articulation of the problem and a subsequent ordering of constraints within the context of the competition proposal. / Master of Architecture
