Vad influerar ungdomar till att agera klimatvänligt? / What influences adolescents to act pro-environmental?Hansson, Emma, Kvick, Filippa January 2020 (has links)
Klimatförändringarnas stora problematik är ett av de mest diskuteradeämnena idag och är högst avgörande för framtiden och kommandegenerationer. Dagens ungdomar anser att klimatet är den viktigastesamhällsfrågan och ungdomar en viktig grupp att lägga fokus på vidforskning. Syftet med studien var att undersöka hur unga motiveras att ageramer klimatvänligt utifrån tillit till klimatforskare, känslan av att kunnapåverka samt oro för klimatförändringarna. Tidigare forskning på vuxna harhittat signifikanta samband mellan alla dessa aspekter vilket denna studieockså gjorde. I studien fann vi även att oro för klimatförändringarna var denunikt viktigaste faktorn för att förklara det klimatvänliga handlandet när mankontrollerade för de andra variablerna. Studien genomfördes med hjälp av enwebb-enkät som distribuerades till gymnasieelever i Göteborg och Rönninge(N=106). Aktuell studie utfördes med en tvärsnittsdesign där måtten vartillförlitliga och väl validerade. Resultaten har bidragit till både praktiskaimplikationer såväl som intressanta teoretiska frågor för framtida forskning. / Climate change and the major problems it brings is the most discussed topictoday and are crucial for the future and future generations. Today'sadolescents consider the climate changes to be the most important societalissue and young people are an essential group to focus on when it comes toresearch. The aim with this study was to examine how young people getmotivated to act more pro-environmental based on trust in climate scientists,efficacy and climate change concern. Previous research with adults has foundsignificant correlations between all these aspects, so did this study. The studyalso found that climate change concern was the sole most important factor inexplaining pro-environmental behavior when controlling for the othervariables. The study was executed with a web survey that was distributed tohigh school students in Göteborg and Rönninge (N=106). The study wasconducted with a cross-sectional design where the measurements werereliable and well validated. The results have both practical implications aswell as it has aroused interesting theoretical questions for future research.

Sinbad Automation Of Scientific Process: From Hidden Factor Analysis To Theory SynthesisKursun, Olcay 01 January 2004 (has links)
Modern science is turning to progressively more complex and data-rich subjects, which challenges the existing methods of data analysis and interpretation. Consequently, there is a pressing need for development of ever more powerful methods of extracting order from complex data and for automation of all steps of the scientific process. Virtual Scientist is a set of computational procedures that automate the method of inductive inference to derive a theory from observational data dominated by nonlinear regularities. The procedures utilize SINBAD – a novel computational method of nonlinear factor analysis that is based on the principle of maximization of mutual information among non-overlapping sources (Imax), yielding higherorder features of the data that reveal hidden causal factors controlling the observed phenomena. One major advantage of this approach is that it is not dependent on a particular choice of learning algorithm to use for the computations. The procedures build a theory of the studied subject by finding inferentially useful hidden factors, learning interdependencies among its variables, reconstructing its functional organization, and describing it by a concise graph of inferential relations among its variables. The graph is a quantitative model of the studied subject, capable of performing elaborate deductive inferences and explaining behaviors of the observed variables by behaviors of other such variables and discovered hidden factors. The set of Virtual Scientist procedures is a powerful analytical and theory-building tool designed to be used in research of complex scientific problems characterized by multivariate and nonlinear relations.

Expanding the pathway: The role of a residential STEM program for high school students in shifting perceptions and personal relevance of scientists and scienceCarlton, Caleb 30 April 2021 (has links)
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) academic programs and career fields continue to lack representation among females and minorities. STEM learning programs that engage youth in culturally relevant and personally meaningful experiences in STEM have been shown to develop participant self-concept as a scientist, as well as increase interest in related careers. This study uses the Draw-a-Scientist Checklist (DAST-C) instrument, as well as the Draw-a-Scientist Growth (DAST-G) instrument, which was developed and implemented by the author as part of this research. The DAST-C and DAST-G instruments were used to examine the science-related perceptions of youth before and after participation in a residential STEM geosciences program. An analysis found that the program produced statistically significant (p<.05) reductions to the DAST-C scientist stereotype scores in all twelve cycles of the program between 2018 and 2019, and statistically significant gains to the DAST-G scientist perception growth scores in eleven of the cycles.

Preservice Teachers' Images of Female Scientists, Male Scientists, and Teacher as Scientists: An Analysis of Stereotypical IndicatorsRendon, Netassha M 12 1900 (has links)
The role of depicting and analysing scientist images to reveal gender-science stereotypes among students in K-12 classrooms is an ongoing research trend in science education literature. The study reported here carries on this research trend but focuses on preservice elementary teachers' images of scientists. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between preservice elementary teachers' gender and ethnicity and their drawn images of a female scientist, male scientist, and teacher as a scientist, respectively and the similarities and differences among images. In this study, preservice elementary teachers were asked to draw a female scientist, male scientist, and teacher as a scientist, respectively. One hundred and fifty participants indicated their gender and one hundred and twenty-five indicated their gender and ethnicity. Five hundred and eighty eight images were analysed. The data was analysed using a modified Draw-A-Scientist-Test Checklist (DAST-C) and chi-square tests. The results of this study indicate that gender-science stereotypes held by preservice teachers exist among genders and ethnicities. Factors that contribute to diminish or promote stereotypical images of scientists are age, education, culture, role models, and inquiry-based instruction. Also, similarities and differences between images of a female scientist, male scientist, and teacher as a scientist show that preservice teachers know how to draw scientists with physical indicators but do not include a realistic environment or activities for the scientist.

specifically on the life and work of a contemporaneous mathematician-physicist, and
becomes part of the set of research results that investigate, organize and describe
personal, intellectual and professional itineraries of Brazilian scientists and
educators. The theme chosen for the study ran from seminars on Mathematics in
Par? and is up to organize and describe the life history, education, professional
experience and scientific production of William Mauricio Souza Marcos de La Penha
(Guilherme de La Penha), considering their academic, professional and intellectual
life history, so that their academic and intellectual production be spread over the
Brazilian scientific and academic community. We adopted the historical research as
theoretical and methodological base for the development of this study, rising
arguments about the profile of Guilherme de La Penha to characterize him as a
multiskill intellectual and to reveal that his thoughts about science, technology,
training scientists and educators were in accordance with their writings and their
professional practice in order to build a first story about the life and work of William
de La Penha. In this sense, we took the theoretical aspects related to historical
research, biographies, intellectual itineraries, files and inventories as sources and
historical construction vehicles in order to point out the essential elements to form a
profile of the transdisciplinary intellectual historians, ie a profile scientist who carries
out the research, management and administration, as well as a committed educator
to the on-going training and forming process. The results pointed in different
directions, among which we highlight the creation of Se??o Guilherme de La Penha
at Universidade da Amazonia, producing several articles about the life and work of
William de La Penha presented at national and international conferences and the
proposal for documentary displays which could contribute to understanding the
implementation of a scientific area in Par? State, an area that would not only be
restricted to the production of knowledge, but more than that, it would include the
spreading, which provides various means, primarily through education. Thus it was
possible to ensure that La Penha has an intellectual profile that can be considered a
multi-and transdisciplinary intellectual who defends the possibility of forming a
scientist one and multiple, non-linear attitudes and dialogues with all other areas in
order to be understood under a model scientist for the twenty-first century based on
the model clearly inspired by the scientist authors with which he identified throughout
their training and professional activities, like the three that stood out in their

Previous issue date: 2013-10-09 / This research aims to identify the role of the Report of Criminal Expertise with the law operators as well as the rate of participation in the judgments in court procedures. It is known that the Report of Criminal Expertise is a document of technical - scientific nature – produced by forensic scientist – with the aim of assisting the courts with their content ba sed on the study of experts. As a help to J ustice, the Report of Criminal Expertise is the most robust evidence used by the magistrate s to issue a court order or for the use of juries in cases of crimes against life. Part of the research method was qualita tive and, for data collection,we used interview - by questionnaire - with law enforcement officers (police officers, judges and prosecutors) who acted in cases of murder and/or robbery and work in the five Administrative Regions that covered over 50% of th ese crimes. Later the documental analysis was begun, in which were verified 1 72 (one hundred seventy - two ) site surveys and its repercussions in the judicial. Some conclusions regarding the Reports have been suggested, such as their lateness in some cases. But it was possible to take a new look at the tech nical document that both aid in the C riminal J ustice. Was discussed, also, the lack of feedback information for forensic experts from the Crime Lab, which causes problems of motivational order . / A presente pesquisa visa identificar o papel do Laudo de Perícia Criminal junto aos operadores do direito, bem como qual o grau de participação nas sentenças proferidas em âmbito judicial. Sabe-se que o Laudo de Perícia Criminal é um documento de cunho técnico-científico – produzido por perito criminal – com o objetivo de auxiliar à Justiça com seu conteúdo baseado no estudo de especialistas, sendo o Laudo de Perícia Criminal um dos meios de prova mais robustos utilizados pelo magistrado para proferir uma sentença judicial ou para uso dos jurados nos casos de crimes dolosos contra a vida. Parte do método de pesquisa foi qualitativo e, para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se de entrevista – mediante questionário – com operadores do direito (delegados de polícia, juízes de direito e promotores de justiça) que atuavam em processos de homicídio e/ou latrocínio e lotados nas cinco Regiões Administrativas que, em conjunto, abarcavam mais de 50% dos crimes dessas naturezas. Posteriormente passou-se à análise documental, onde foram verificados 172 (cento e setenta e dois) levantamentos de local e suas repercussões no âmbito judicial. Algumas conclusões em relação aos laudos foram apontadas: tais como sua intempestividade em alguns casos. Porém, foi possível abrir um novo olhar para o documento técnico que tanto auxilia a justiça criminal. Abordou-se, ainda, a falta de uma realimentação (feedback) de informações para os peritos criminais do Instituto de Criminalística, que acarreta problemas de ordem motivacional.

Improving data-driven decision making through data democracy : Case study of a Swedish bankAmerian, Irsa January 2021 (has links)
Nowadays, becoming data-driven is the vision of almost all organizations. However, achieving this vision is not as easy as it may look like and there are many factors that affect, enable, support and sustain the data-driven ecosystem in an organization. Among these factors, this study focuses on data democracy which can be defined as the intra-organizational open data that aims to empower the employees getting faster and easier access to data in order to benefit from the business insight they need without the interfere of external help. In the existing literature, while the importance of becoming data-driven has been widely discussed, when it comes to data democracy within organizations, there is a noticeable gap. As a result, this master’s thesis aims to justify the importance and role of the data democracy in becoming a data-driven organization, focusing on the case of a Swedish bank. Additionally, it intends to provide extra investigation on the role of data analytics tools in achieving data democracy. The results of the study show that there is a strong connection between the benefits of the empowering different actors of the organization with the needed data knowledge, and the speeding up of the data-driven transformation journey. Based on the study, shared data and the availability of data to a larger number of stakeholders inside an organization result into a better understanding of different aspects of the problems, simplify the data-driven decision making and make the organization more data-driven. In the process of becoming data-driven, the organizations should provide the analytics tools not only to the data specialists but even to the non-data technical people. And by offering the needed support, training and collaboration possibilities between the two groups of employees (data specialists and non-data specialists), it should be attempted to enable the second group to extract the insight from the data, independently from the help of the data scientists. An organization can succeed in the path of becoming data-driven when they invest on the reusable capabilities of its employees, by discovering the data science skills across various departments and turning their domain experts into citizen data scientists of the organization.
