A Comprehensive Study Evaluating Driver Education in the Senior High Schools from Analyses of Driving Records of Salt Lake City High School Students

Officials responsible for the control and administration of the traffic on the highways and streets of the nation are aware that good roads, markings, signals, and equipment are necessary. They also realize that the human element involved in the process of operating a vehicle is of the utmost importance. Highways can only be termed good to the extent of the actions of the drivers who use these roads. Studies have been made throughout the nation in different states and cities to determine the results of formal training of drivers. The results of these studies answer many questions and also leave many questions unanswered. A previous study by H. Neil Anderson, in 1952, of the city high schools here in Utah gave some indication of the validity of the hypothesis that students who successfully coplete the driver education course have better performace records than those who did not take the course. Anderson's study, and others in the nation, leaves a challenge to carry out a survey over a longer period of actual driving time for the participants in the Salt Lake City high schools. The purpose of this thesis is to make a comprehensive study of driving records of Salt Lake City high school students who have received training in the driver education program, and those of students who have received no such training. The main objective of this study is to compare the driving records in terms of violations and accidents of the trained drivers against the violations and accidents records of the untrained drivers. This is a comprehensive study evaluating driver education in the senior high schools from analyses of driving records of Salt Lake City high school students.

學校組織動態能耐評量指標建構與實證之研究 / The Dynamic Capabilities in Taiwan's Senior High Schools

二十一世紀是一個環境變遷快速的時代,組織必須隨時掌握外部環境與內部環境的變化,以快速回度環境與市場需求,維持其競爭優勢。因此,本研究主要目的即以動態能耐觀點為基礎,發展適用於學校組織動態能耐評量工具,進而以之做為評估學校組織動態能耐之工具,並對國內之高級中學與高級職業學校進行調查,以瞭解當前高中職之現況,並提出結論與建議。 在量表發展上,本研究以文獻分析與德懷術進行指標建構,完成後並以信度分析、探索性因素分析及二階驗證性因素分析來檢證其信度與效度。最後發展而成之量表共計七個層面,分別為行政整合、定位、科技應用、學習、創新、知識管理與策略彈性。研究結果顯示本研究所發展之「高中職動態能耐量表」具有良好之信度與效度,可做為高中職之動態能耐評量工具。在高中職之動態能耐現況部分,則採用調查研究法在進行,分層隨機抽取60所公私立高級中學及高級職業學校,共寄出996份問卷,回收有效問卷為690份。調查結果以t考驗、變異數分析等統計方法進行資料處理。 本研究之主要發現有以下幾點: 一、高中職動態能耐量表具有良好之信度與效度,且可由七個層面47個細項指標加以評量; 二、高級中學與高級職業學校之動態能耐沒有顯著差異; 三、私立學校之動態能耐高於公立學校,在「位置」、「知識管理」與「策略彈性」等三個層面之差異達統計顯著水準; 四、成立歷史較悠久之學校具有較佳之動態能耐。; 五、規模太小之學校其動態能耐偏低,競爭優勢不如規模較大之學校; 六、偏遠地區之學校其動態能耐明顯低於都市與鄉鎮地區之學校; 七、男性學校教育人員之動態能耐知覺明顯高於女性學校教育人員; 八、年齡較大之學校教育人員其動態能耐知覺顯著高於年齡較小者; 九、擔任行政職務之學校教育人員其動態能耐知覺高於一般學校教育人員; 十、不同教育程度之學校教育人員其動態能耐之看法沒有顯著差異; 十一、資深之學校教育人員其動態能耐知覺程度明顯高於資淺之學校教育人員; 十二、高中職在「科技應用」層面之表現最佳,而在「知識管理」層面之表現則有待改善。 根據以上之研究結果,本研究提出以下建議,以供未來量表應用、在教育行政機關決策、學校運作與未來研究時之參考: 一、對學校組織動態能耐量表應用之建議 1.應善用動態能耐量表做為組織進步之學校營運引導指標。 2.應進一步確認量表與模式之適當性。 二、對教育主管機關之建議 1.應隨時監控大環境之變化,擬定適當之政策並快速將訊息傳達給學校單位。 2.應致力降低偏遠地區學校與都市、鄉鎮學校之差距。 3.應適度調整公立學校與私立學校之教育資源分配,以使學生享有平等之教育資源。 三、對高級中學與高級職業學校之建議 1.應建立完善之資訊蒐集系統,以強化學校之動態能耐。 2.應增加學校成員參與行政事務之機會。 3.應加強行銷策略,以增進學校信譽資產之優勢。 4.應定時檢視學校之優勢與劣勢,以避免核心僵固的情況發生。 5.應建立學校之知識管理分享文化,以增進創新之能量。 6.應設法留住優秀與經驗豐富之學校教育人員。 四、對未來研究之建議 1.就研究對象方面,可擴大研究對象。 2.就量表施測方面,應佐以相關客觀資料與專家學者之評比進行結果分析。 3.就研究方法方面,在專家意見整合方面可改用焦點團體法或腦力激盪法;在意見調查方面可兼採質化方法。 4.就研究工具方面,可進一步進行量表之修正與驗證。 5.就研究內容方面,可研究動態能耐與其他變項之關係。 / The dynamic capabilities approach is promising in terms of future research potential and as an aid to management endeavoring to gain competitive advantage in increasingly demanding environment. Dynamic capabilities identifying new opportunities and help organizations organize effectively and efficiently in regimes of rapid environments changes. The term ‘dynamic’ refers to the capacity to renew competences so as to achieve congruence with the changing outer environment; the term ‘capabilities’ emphasizes the abilities in appropriately adapting, integrating, and reconfiguring internal and external organizational skills, resources ,and functional competences to make the requirements of a rapidly changing environment. The purpose of this study was to develop an inventory of dynamic capabilities that apply to the senior high schools and senior vocational schools in Taiwan. This research was conducted under two processes. At first, the fundamental indicators of the inventory were constructed under the groundwork of literature review and Delphi method. The inventory was examined with several statistical methods such as reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The result showed that the self-constructed dynamic capabilities inventory was with good reliability and validity. Secondly, the inventory was sent to 996 senior high schools’ personnel in Taiwan and 690 valid questionnaires were returned and analyzed by SPSS For Windows 12.0 version at .05 significant level. Statistical method such as descriptive statistics, t-test and one-way ANOVA were adapted to data analysis. Major findings include the following: 1. The dynamic capabilities inventory that constructed by researcher is with fine reliability and validity and could measure schools’ dynamic capabilities with seven dimensions. 2. There is no difference between the dynamic capabilities of senior high schools and senior vocational schools. 3. The dynamic capabilities of the private schools are significantly higher that the public schools. 4. Schools that with longer history have greater dynamic capabilities. 5. The small- scoped schools have less dynamic capabilities. 6. Schools that located in remote area have less dynamic capabilities than the schools located in the city. 7. The perception of dynamic capabilities of male school personnel is significantly higher that the female school personnel. 8. Elder personnel have higher perception of dynamic capabilities than the younger personnel. 9. Personnel serve in administration sections have higher perception of dynamic capabilities than the personnel who are not served in administrative sections. 10. Educational background is not a decisive element to the perception of dynamic capabilities. 11. The senior school personnel have higher perception of dynamic capabilities. Based on the findings, several recommendations were made for the application of DCI-S, for the superior authorities, for the senior high/vocational schools as well as for further research.

國立高級中等學校校長遴選制度改進之研究

本研究旨在瞭解國立高級中等學校校長遴選之現況,透過訪談遴選利益關係人,探討校長遴選制度的優缺點,要如何辦理遴選,才能協助學校選出最適合的校長,從不同的角度檢索遴選制度的配套措施,再依研究結果提出建議。 首先進行文獻探討,作為架構研究的理論基礎,並構築深度訪談題綱,分別訪談教師代表、家長代表、校長代表、教育行政代表、遴選委員代表等,共計訪談14位利益關係人。另外呈現3位不同類型校長的生命故事,供有志朝向校長之路的教育界人士參考。然後建立訪談逐字稿,依據訪談實錄,利用質性分析軟體MAXQDA進行編碼分析,最後依據研究結果進行討論與結論建議。 針對研究發現提出建議:1.辦理嚴謹的校長績效考評,2.建立校長候選人觀察制度,3.修改為筆試成績公佈後再選填志願,4.提早辦理新任校長遴選作業,5.建立儲訓制度,6.恢復候用期間的建議,7.深思二階遴選的意涵,8.均衡遴選委員代表結構,9.召開公聽會以達成遴選共識,10.建立高級中等學校教師分級制,11.建立遴選委員「遴選培訓認證」制,12.強制轉換跑道的校長要接受轉銜教育,13.建立校長申訴制度。 / The purpose of this study is to investigate the selection system of principals for national senior high schools. To begin with, the interviews are made among several beneficiaries. During the dialogues, the advantages and disadvantages of the selection system of principals are discussed. How to select the most suitable principal for schools? From different aspects, the principal selection committee’s organization and operation, the school operation for the selection system of principals are all examined here. First, literature review are adopted to be the foundation of the theory. In-depth outlines were constructed for the fourteen interviews among teacher representatives, students’ parents, principal representatives, administrational delegates, and selection committee representatives. Moreover, three genres of principals are well-depicted for reference. Word for word scripts were transcribed in terms of the qualitative content analysis through the software MAXQDA which generates decoding analysis. In the end, this study provides a discussion based on the research outcome and some suggestions for the policy. Some suggestions are stated as below: a. Conduct a discreet assessment of principals. b. Establish the observation system of principal candidates. c. Modify the procedure that “taking written tests and then elect to fill in the wish.” d. Start the whole system of selection of the new principals as soon as possible. e. Establish the system of pre-service training. f. Restore the pre-service training of new principals. g. Consider the meaning of two stages of selection system. h. Balance the structure of the principal selection committee members. i. Hold a public hearing for consensus. j. Establish the classification of teachers for high school teachers. k. Set up the training system for the members of principal selection committee. l. Set up the compulsory training for those principals who transfer to be another types of school. m. Establish the system of appealing for principals.

Ljusa svenskar och mörka blattar : gymnasiestudenters tankar kring svenskar, invandrare och integration

<p>Sverige är ett mångkulturellt land och det finns intentioner till integration i samhället och dess olika instanser. Skolan är en instans där barn, ungdomar och vuxna med olika bakgrund möts. Studenter med svensk bakgrund och studenter med utländsk bakgrund agerar inom skolan och det sker en kategorisering av studenterna i kategorierna svenskar och invandrare. Syftet med studien är att lyfta fram och tolka gymnasiestudenters tankar kring begreppen svenskar, invandrare och integration. Ett delsyfte är att genomföra en prövning av flödesskrivning som metod. Studien riktar sig till studenter i tredje året på gymnasiet i en kommun i Sverige. Resultatet av studien har visat att flödesskrivning lämpar sig väl som metod och därigenom har tankar lyfts fram kring begreppen. Tankar kring begreppet svenskar rör främst det ljusa som; vit, blond, och vänlighet. Tankar kring begreppet invandrare rör främst det mörka som; svart, bråk och kriminalitet. Tankar kring begreppet integration rör främst bråk och missförstånd och upplevs i stor utsträckning svårt. Ett krav för integration är positiva möten i tidig ålder mellan personer med svensk bakgrund och personer med utländsk bakgrund.</p>

<p>For most pupils homework is a natural part of school and their education and there are several providers of homework assistance: the pupil's parents, sibblings, friends, Internet forums, hired private tutoring, non-profit organisations and at times even the pupil's school. This study has investigated the use of the school-based homework assistance programme at the Upper Secondary School of Psychology in Stockholm and why the programme is not more frequently used by its pupils. The school offers homework assistance two hours each Thursday afternoon, with at least two teachers being present to tender for the school's 127 pupils. The cost of the programme has been estimated to approximately 12 500 Swedish kronor per week. Through the main use of a questionnaire given to both the school's students and teachers, as well as an interview with the school's headmaster, this study will show that despite receiving the opportunity few pupils take part of the programme on a regular basis. Although approximately seventy percent of all pupils claim to have attended the program at least once during the springterm, the main reason has been to re-take tests and not to receive help with their schoolwork. The school's main purpose with the homework assistance programme is to give all its pupils the same opportunity to receive help with their studies and thus reach the national goals. However, some pupils find both the programme and homework in general to be a waste of their leisure time. This study shows that the pupils. use of the homework assistance programme most often is connected not only to individuals' needs for extra assistance with schoolwork, but also with their own maturity and insight of the responsibilities they have towards their studies.<strong> </strong></p>

<p>Abstract</p><p>This study examines the use of dance in the special education classes in high school. The purpose is to study the teachers’ thoughts about dance within this school form. I want to see if they see any gains from having dance as a subject, and what might these be? Earlier research states that dance has a positive influence on mentally handicapped children and young people, and that it strengthens their general development. There is little research literature available, but there is an agreement that dance gives these young people a stronger self-esteem, a sense of belonging to a group, and the possibility of non-verbal communication. I have, in this study, interviewed five teachers of these special education classes. The resultants show that these teachers are positive to having dance on the schedule for these students. The gains that they mention are: an increased awareness of their own bodies, an increased self-esteem, movement, cultural understanding, a greater awareness of room and space, a sense of community, and another means of expressing themselves and communicating. In addition, they also describe dance as something that is fun.</p><p>Key words: Dance, dance in school, senior high school for children in special needs, moves</p> / <p>Sammanfattning</p><p>Denna studie handlar om dans i gymnasiesärskolan. Syftet är att studera lärares tankar om ämnet dans inom gymnasiesärskolan. Jag ville också se om lärarna ansåg att det fanns några vinster med att ha dans som ämne i gymnasiesärskolan och i så fall vilka. Tidigare forskning säger att dans har positiv inverkan på handikappade barn och ungdom då det stärker den allsidiga utvecklingen. Det har varit svårt att finna litteratur som berör dans i gymnasiesärskolan men i all litteratur som beskriver dans, så är samtliga överens om att dansen ger ungdomar en stärkt självkänsla, en grupptillhörighet och en möjlighet till en icke verbal kommunikation. Jag har i min studie intervjuat fem lärare på gymnasiesärskolan och resultatet visar att just denna intervjugrupp är positivt inställda till att dans ska finnas på schemat för elever på gymnasiesärskolan. Vinster som nämns är kroppskännedom, stärkt självkänsla, rörelse, kulturell förståelse, socialt samspel, rumsuppfattning, gemenskap och ett språk för att uttrycka sig och kommunicera.
