In order to answer the questions, raised for the study, previous research has been examined, which enlightens the situation of biological children in foster care families. The studies theoretical frame of interpretation is, besides previous research, also system theory which shows how you, within the family systems relations affect each other, and development theory which enlightens children needs and development during various ages. Results from the study shows the importance of making the biological children more visible during the entire foster care process. Furthermore the Social service should see the biological course as part of the foster home, and offer them the same amount of support, guidance and information offered to the parents.

Communication Among Emerging Adult Siblings

Paulsen, Jessica Leigh 01 May 2013 (has links)
The study sought to explore the emerging adult sibling dyad through qualitativeinquiry. By doing so, the collected data bring new meaning to why and how emerging adult siblings communicate. Also, by including both siblings, this study sought to highlight a different perspective of sibling communication. Extant research on the emerging adulthood stage of life is limited. The current study explored the sibling dyad during this phase of life, and three themes emerged: siblings become friends, changes during emerging adulthood, conflict negotiation, and taking a parental role.

Barns könsstereotypa tankar kring leksaker : Yttre påverkans vikt i form av syskon samt föräldrars tankesätt kring könsroller och barn

Hedlund, Emelie, Kohlin, Marcus January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this study is to show whether boys and girls at the age of five have gender stereotyped views about toys or not, and if their views can possibly be linked to the parents educational level. In order to answer this question we carried out a picture based study amongst 11 children in a preschool located in a town in Sweden. The parents also answered a survey with questions regarding their background such as siblings, toys, friends, educational level and work. The results showed that the parents’ educational level has little or no impact on the children’s answers in the study. Sibling or lack of siblings seems to be of bigger significance. But also if the parents have gender in mind when buying toys and clothes to their child. These two factors seem to be the most significant ones in relation to how the children associate different toys with gender and toys in our study.

Att vara familjehemmets biologiska barn / To be the biological child of the family home

Lindberg, Josefin, Malmqvist, Pernilla January 2013 (has links)
The purpose with this study is to find out the experience of growing up in a family where the biological parents, has taken the assignment as family child caregiver’s. We have taken the help from the following question formulations to immerse ourselves in the subject. How do the biological children experience their relationship to their parents? How do the biological children experience their relationship to the children who are placed in their home? How do the biological children experience their participation in the family home? How do the biological children experience the need for support from outside the family? We have used a qualitative research method and interviewed six respondents with help from a semi-structured interview guide to get the respondents unique experiences told. In this way the respondents own perspective is presented in a phenomenological way, without coloring their stories with our own naive theories. We have processed the material with help from topics that affect our question formulation. Sibling relationship, relations to parents, participation and support from social welfare and also the family home assignment. The results from the interviews are introduced with help from the Attachment theory, KASAM, Systems theory, literature and research in the subject. Our conclusions are that the biological children have had a participation in the decisions concerning the family home. We have also established that the biological children in our study rarely had to take responsibility for the children placed in their home. The result also shows that the biological children experience varying relationships to the children placed in their home. Some respondents describe it as a sibling relationship while some describes their relationship to the placed children more like a friendly relationship. Our respondents experiences to their parents are good with some exceptions during some particular troublesome periods in their growth. Everyone told us that they could talk to their parents about most of the things regarding the family home but they also said that they felt the need of a person outside the family to talk to, like some support from the social services.

Uppväxtvillkorens betydelse för studie- och yrkesvalen : En intervjustudie med personer med syskon med funktionsnedsättningar / How the terms of early life (youth) affect the selection of studies- and career choices : A case study based on interviews of siblings to people affected by disabilities

Berg, Maria, Lovekrans, Åsa January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study has been to investigate whether people with siblings that have disability have been personally affected when making choices about their studies and careers based on their upbringing with their siblings. The method chosen was qualitative data and consists of six interviews with people who are familiar with the chosen problem area. In conclusion, our results do not show a link between choices of study in relation to the sibling's disabilities. However a link was found between career choices, many choose to work in the area of health and well-being. This link was also found in literature we have researched, people living with disabled siblings have chosen careers and jobs within health and well-being.

Att få ett prematurbarn påverkar hela familjen : En litteraturstudie om syskonens upplevelse / The birth of a premature baby impacts the whole family : Aliterature study examining the siblings’ experience

Brooks, Malin January 2015 (has links)
Worry and uncertainty have an impact on both parents and siblings when a child is born prematurely. Family-centered care is often used as a nursing model, within the neonatal care setting. One focus of Family Centered Care is to consider the whole family unit. In reality, however, siblings are often forgotten. The purpose of this study was to describe the siblings’ experience of having a premature baby brother or sister. The method used was a literature study, where the result was based on eight articles. Four categories emerged: Ambivalent feelings and altered behavior, Absence of parents, Altered roles and Need for processing and support. The result showed that when a premature baby is born, the sibling has an emotional reaction, often linked to a positive or negative change in behavior. The siblings often take on new roles and responsibilities that exceed what could be expected for their age. Siblings often feel they miss their parents, as they are occupied with worry and stress as well as frequent hospital visits. Support for siblings has shown positive outcomes on their psychosocial behavior. There is little research undertaken about siblings of premature children and further research is needed both from the perspective of the siblings and the family as well as from the perspective of the nursing staff.

Friend, foe, or both? A retrospective exploration of sibling relationships in elite youth sport

Nelson, Kendra 29 July 2015 (has links)
With the abundance of literature focusing on parental influence in sport, it is important to identify family dynamics that extend beyond parents to include siblings. In this study, sibling influence was explored though interviews with previously identified elite youth female athletes (N=4) and their sibling (N=4) of the same sex who participated in the same sport. The purpose was to discover how siblings influence sport participation and how parents influence sibling relationships, retrospectively. Three categories emerged from the data: positive experiences participating in the same sport, negative experiences participating in the same sport, and perception of the parental role. The participants’ descriptions coincide with observational learning and both deidentification and divergence processes. The data adds to the probable sibling and parent experiences proposed in the Developmental Model of Sport Participation and provides insight for athletes, parents, and coaches on how to manage sibling relations in sport. / October 2015
