Quality of urban green space: a proposal of evaluation index.

Alvarez, Ivan André 12 April 2004 (has links)
The aim of this work was to propose a new index, amongst other already known, that evaluates the quality of green coverage in relation to its ecological role in urban environment. To elaborate this index, simple random and stratified random sampling were compared with the census, in order to assess the best qualitative and quantitative method to do the tree inventory. A survey of sidewalk arborisation, as well as trees per kilometre, total number of trees and the Shannon Diversity Index (IDS) of sidewalk trees were evaluated. Amongst the studied indexes were the Index of Open Spaces for Public Use (IELUP), Percentage of Open Spaces for Public Use (PELUP), Index of Green Coverage for Urban Areas (ICVAU) and Index of Green per Inhabitant (IVH), by means of digital plan, aerial photography and videography for the areas covered by vegetation measurement. Santa Cecilia District in Piracicaba City, Sao Paulo State, Brazil, was the object of study from 2000 to 2003. The qualitative sampling survey of trees was carried out by simple random sampling, as found to be the most adequate to survey sidewalk trees. Data obtained for 2003, the year chosen to propose the new index, were: a) IELUP varied from 11.42 to 41.62m2/inhab, using videography; b) PELUP varied from 1.52% to 2.89%; c) ICVAU was 25.76m2 (coverage + tree canopy) and 16.48m2 ( tree canopy ); d) IVH consisted of 101.96m2/hab (coverage + tree canopy) and 65.21m2/inhab (tree canopy). The index for the evaluation of green spaces, so named "Index for Quality of Green Urban Space" (IQEVU) was one of the subsidies to study and propose the "Index for Quality of Green Urban Space with Ecological Role" (IQEVUe). The parameters for evaluation of such index were the shading from sidewalk trees; hydrology, Carbon sequestration and temperature influence for all green space. In this study, the proposed IQEVUe seems to be adequate and coherent as an evaluation method for the benefits of urban vegetation, providing subsidies for the planning and management of cities.

The human being is complex and at the same time transparent, desiring to be someone significant, uses mechanisms to survive as an individual among the society. And, when excluded from the group to which he belongs, he necessarily must (Re) mean, in order to join a new group. In the case of sidewalk residents, this action is exacerbated, becoming more evident the necessity of expression and the use of archetypes in the battle against invisibility within their social group and if possible, achieving to stand out among his peers. The narratives, conducted through interviews, allowed penetrate into a parallel world where neither time has the same value and setting as we were used to. In order to understand the narratives of this (Re) meaning world daily and achieve the proposed objectives, it was used as a theoretical study of social representations, with the cultural-historical psychology foundations, depth psychology and art contexts and concepts. Supported by these bibliographical sources, documentary, and especially in the participatory field research, it was possible to articulate a discussion of the aesthetic needs of the sidewalk's residents in their socio-historical context and their need to (re) signification. Among the various analyzed, we have chosen four main characters for their sensible aesthetic productions, which demonstrate the social segment in which they belong, to be analysis objects of their (RE) meanings. Among them, we were able to find heroes, faithful man, poets, painters, performers, bricoleurs, who have art as their mainspring of their social development, presenting archetypes to (Re) mean their world.

Perreault-Mandeville, Étienne 04 1900 (has links)
This master thesis focuses on panhandling on the sidewalks of Sainte-Catherine Street in Montreal in 2019-2020. Through this ethnographic research, I wanted to understand how panhandlers are encouraged to adopt desired and expected behaviors in the eyes of citizens. To answer this question, I first wanted to disentangle the terms “homelessness” and “panhandling” by showing that the latter consists of an activity which is also practiced by people in a situation of precarious housing or at risk of homelessness. Conceiving panhandling as an active rather than a passive practice, I wanted to get away from the one-sided concept that turns the panhandler into a recipient for charity. I looked at the forms of regulation that govern this activity in public space, taking into account the historical, social and legal transformations of sidewalks and panhandling since the late 19th and early 20th century, particularly in the North American context. By mobilizing the theoretical framework on governmentality and citizenship, I wanted to understand how panhandlers maintain a behavior pattern conveyed by ordinary citizens. To do this, I analyzed six types of relationships that panhandlers maintain on a daily basis while they practice their activity: relationships with passers-by / pedestrians, panhandlers and other marginalized people, with shopkeepers adjacent to panhandling places, with foot patrols officers, spaces, environment and places as well as the relationship to oneself and one's identity. Analytical data is based on participant observation and jotting notes. I have also used photography to capture urban social landscapes and complement the analysis of relationships to space, environment and places. From this descriptive analysis, I tend to demonstrate that there are multiple modes of producing governmentality on the sidewalk. First, the foot patrol officers, institutionalized social actors, convey formal and state control. They maintain public order and regulate the panhandling activity, in particular through the production of tolerance under constraint or conditional on the adoption of desired and orderly behaviors. They also use body positioning and movement tactics to avoid undesirable elements such as obstructions. Second, the control between pedestrians and panhandlers is achieved through the production of deference to pedestrians, the latter conveying a desired and orderly mode of driving and using the sidewalk in its dominant functions. Third, there is a form of delegation of power among panhandlers, thus making it possible to maintain informal order in absence of formal control. The analysis shows the presence of self-control and identity work among panhandlers, the latter aimed at not disturbing the order on the sidewalk. There is also informal control over the appropriation of the place of panhandling, ranging from violent control over others to self-control allowing negotiation and delineation of space. Finally, I tend to demonstrate that governmentality operates at the spatial level and that it helps to make certain behaviors appropriate rather than others, deemed undesirable. The analysis of marginal and prime spaces informs us about an unequal social, geographical and spatial relationship between ordinary citizens and panhandlers/homeless people. In conclusion, I want to demonstrate that panhandlers try to legitimize their presence in the eyes of ordinary citizens by practicing what I call ordered or ordinary panhandling.

Návrh vedení sběrné místní komunikace s tramvajovou tratí linky č.3 areálu Zbrojovky v Brně / Design of the local connecting road with the tram track of the line no.3 in the area of Zbrojovka in Brno

Paszandová, Zuzana January 2013 (has links)
The thesis deals with design of the tram power collecting route and the tram track of the route no. 3 in reconstruction area recently called “Zbrojovka Brno”. Connection to the present infrastructure is also considered. Housing, resting, administration sectors and tram stops are designed for easy availability in the new area. Because the railroad bounds the area on the East and will be extended in the future, joining the tram transport with integrated transport system in Židenice is possible. Design includes the new bridge across Svitava river and connection with surrounding areas. If we divide individual car transport (IAD) from the tram route, the trolley car transportation is designed in place IAD.

Terminál VHD Nemocnice – Bohunice v Brně s úvraťovou konečnou stanicí tramvaje / Nemocnice – Bohunice public transport hub in Brno with settting – back track tramway terminus

Vaculíková, Barbora January 2013 (has links)
In my master thesis I deal with a design reconstruction of the current public transport terminus of Nemocnice - Bohunice. Terminus layout includes transfering the tramway line from Osová stop to the hub, the new tramway stop is a setting-back track. There is preserved the utilization of hub by existing city and regional lines of buses and troley buses and newly established regional bus lines (401,402,403,404) and also the entrance to the Bohunice hospital parking in the design. This design provides a safe flow of passengers and pedestrians and their safe road crossing.
