[en] FORECASTING PROBABILISTIC DENSITY DISTRIBUTION OF WIND POWER GENERATION USING NON-PARAMETRIC TECHNIQUES / [pt] PREVISÃO DA DISTRIBUIÇÃO DA DENSIDADE DE PROBABILIDADE DA GERAÇÃO DE ENERGIA EÓLICA USANDO TÉCNICAS NÃO PARAMÉTRICASSORAIDA AGUILAR VARGAS 11 July 2016 (has links)
[en] As a result of the new contracting process wind power auctions and the entrance into operation of new wind farms to the Brazilian electrical system, it is requires that the planning of the operation of short-term activities such as regulation, balancing and programming dispatch of units commitment among other activities, is made such that the technical and financial risks are minimized. But this is not a simple task, since providing accurate forecasts for this process presents several challenges, as the incorporation of uncertainty in the calculation of the forecasts. Hence the technical literature reports several techniques that provide estimates of the probability of wind power generation density, because such estimates allow to obtain forecasts of the wind power probability density function. In this context, wind speed forecasting in wind farms becomes essential information for decision support models which helps the economic and safe operation of electrical systems, due to the fact that most of the models need to the wind speed predictions for forecasting wind energy. This thesis proposes a non-parametric specification strategy for forecasting of wind power generation, using the commonly known conditional kernel density estimation, which allows the estimation of the probability density function of wind power generation for any time horizon, conditioned on wind speed forecast obtained by applying the Singular Spectrum Analysis methodology (SSA). The methodology has been successfully validated using the time series of wind speed and hourly averages of wind production of a Brazilian wind farm. The results were compared against other methodologies for wind speed prediction, and the proposed non-parametric approach produced very prominent results.

PROJETO TERAPÊUTICO SINGULAR (PTS): AS PERCEPÇÕES DOS TRABALHADORES DE UM CENTRO DE ATENÇÃO PSICOSSOCIAL ÁLCOOL E DROGAS (CAPS ad) / SINGULAR THERAPEUTIC PROJECT (STP): PERCEPTIONS OF WORKERS IN A PSYCHOSOCIAL ALCOHOL AND DRUGS CARE CENTER (CAPS ad)Cadore, Carlise 29 August 2012 (has links)
The Health and Psychiatric Reform movements in Brazil triggered transformations in
theoretical and practical model of mental health care. These changes enabled the expansion of
the concept of health / disease process, the creation of public policies, the implementation of a
network of services replacing psychiatric hospitals, including the CAPS and the development
of new strategies for health intervention. Therefore, these changes suggest a series of
challenges to the practice of workers in health services, especially with regard to care and care
for people in psychological distress, using as a framework the assumptions of the fields of
Public Health and Mental Health. So the overall goal of this research was to describe and
analyze how health workers of a Psychosocial Alcohol and Drugs Care Center (CAPS ad),
build, lead and propose therapeutic processes of users in that service. It interested us
especially to understand how in this process the development of Singular Therapeutic Projects
(STP) occurs. From this perspective, considering that the therapeutic process is conducted in a
CAPS resulting from conceptions and modes of action of different workers who make up the
staff of such services, justified the choice of the theme by the need to describe and analyze the
actions of these health workers as a way to discuss their practice, pointing out the obstacles
and difficulties in the construction and conduct of therapeutic processes, as well as point out
possible solutions to these issues. Thus, an exploratory-descriptive survey was conducted,
with qualitative approach. For data collection, interviews were conducted semi-structured
with seven workers of different specialties working in CAPS ad. Data analysis was performed
according to thematic analysis proposed by Minayo. The results demonstrate that the
conceptions of workers in relation to the therapeutic process are consistent with the principles
and guidelines of the Psychiatric Reform and the Current Mental Health Policy and the
construction of the Singular Therapeutic Project (STP), generally occurs according to the
proposal of the Ministry of Health. We believe that STP could be used in the searched service
as a production strategy of health care.
usuários no referido serviço.
possíveis soluções a tais questões.

-S morphemes in L2 English : An investigation into student essays in grades 6, 9, and 12 in SwedenJoelsson, Klara January 2018 (has links)
Swedish students’ morpheme acquisition order in English, including the acquisition of -s morphemes, is a relatively unstudied topic. Given the morphological differences between the English and Swedish languages, students learning English in Sweden may encounter difficulties in the use of the third person singular present tense -s morpheme. Research also shows that Swedish students use the plural -s morpheme rather accurately at 9-10 years old. Mapping out the usage of the -s morphemes may pave the way for understanding the difficulties learners encounter in the use of such morphemes. Furthermore, looking into the usage of morphemes that have the same form but different grammatical functions (e.g.,-s morphemes) may help us understand the relationship between different proficiency levels and the accuracy rate of morpheme usage in L2 English. To this end, this study investigates a corpus of texts produced by students learning English in Sweden in grades 6, 9 and 12. The focus is particularly on the frequency and accuracy of the use of -s morphemes, aiming at revealing which type of -s morphemes has a higher accuracy rate. The results show that the accuracy rate with the plural -s morpheme is relatively higher, whereas the possessive -‘s morpheme is the most problematic one across all levels. Additionally, the largest issue with the contracted verb form of be -‘s was that the students did not add an apostrophe between the word and the -s, rather than not using the form at all. Lastly, the third person singular present tense-s accuracy was very low in grade 6 but increased a lot through grade 9 and 12 where more complex subjects were the largest issue. However, the results indicate that further research with a larger corpus size is required to be able to generalize the findings.

Identicação de sistemas neurais com redes bayesianas dinâmicas e transferência de entropia / Neural systems identification with dynamic bayesian networks and transfer entropyFernando Pasquini Santos 04 April 2017 (has links)
Dynamic Bayesian Networks (DBNs) are models capable of representing a dynamical system by means of a complex network which codifies statistical conditional independencies between their internal states. Among their strucutural learning methods based on data, the use of ones based on information theory are gaining ground in recent years, due to their advantages of being model-free and permitting offline learning from multiple repetitions of an experiment. However, there still remains an exploration of the parallels between the areas of DBN structure learning and those interested in obtaining measures of information transfer between elements of neural systems, mainly through transfer entropy (TE). Thus, the current work seeks to approximate these two foci of research by identifying some of their equivalences and challenges related to their usage in neural systems identification. It is noted that one of the main difficulties related to the use of information theory in multivariate neural systems concerns the high dimensionality of the probability distribution functions, requiring thus great quantities of data observed simultaneously. Furthermore, the application of DBNs and transfer entropy on continuous time systems also involves considerations about their discretization on time, which implies the necessity of relaxing the first order Markov property (instrinsinc to the definition of DBNs), and thus leads to the proposal of high-order dynamic Bayesian networks (HO-DBNs). Besides performing a review on the main proposals for solving these difficulties, this work first proposes that, under the supposition of a system with elements behaving in a similar way, the values of information theory based measures with low dimensions can be employed for learning network structures. This is shown with the use of pairwise mutual information for learning simulated Bayesian networks with fixed conditional probability distributions. And concerning the use of HO-DBNs, an algorithm based on PSO is proposed in order to pass through their search space more efficiently. Next, two applications of DBN modeling with information theory are explored in the field of neural systems, in view of obtaining knowledge about functional connectivity and even of a future application of bioinspired engineering. The challenged presented earlier are then exemplified along with some proposals of solutions. The first field regards the elicitation of functional connectivity between hippocampal subfields on the human brain based of high resolution fMRI data. Starting from a seed-to-voxel group analysis, regions of interest (ROIs) are identified and an initial DBN model is proposed, which is coherent with some studies already conducted in the literature. The second field of application concerns the neural connectivity between the neuromotor system of the locust, based on intracellular synaptic potential recordings on sensory neurons, interneurons and motor neurons under stimulation by a forceps in the femoral chordotonal organ (FeCO). Although a complete DBN model is still not possible due to the absence of sufficient and simultaneous recordings, the transfer entropy delays between stimulus and responses on the motor neuros are obtained and integrated by a Bayesian analysis, given also a pre-processing based on Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) which, by removing the nonstationarity characteristics of the signal (which are due to extrinsic factors on the system), considerably increased the number of available samples for learning. Such results, by helping to reduce the search space of DBNs, also direct further experiments and studies on this field.

[pt] AS ABORDAGENS COGNITIVAS DO PENSAMENTO SINGULAR E O CASO DOS PENSAMENTOS NUMÉRICOS / [en] COGNITIVE APPROACH TO SINGULAR THOUGHT AND THE CASE OF NUMERICAL THINKINGPEDRO HENRIQUE PASSOS CARNE 13 July 2016 (has links)
pensamentos.
fundamentar a tese sob análise. / [en] In this dissertation, I tackle the issue of singular thought. More precisely,
my main purpose is to critically investigate the grounds for the claim that there
are singular thoughts about natural numbers. To do so, I review some of the
debates concerning the conditions to be met in order to have (be ascribed) such
thoughts and the role played by singular thinking in our mental lives. I clearly
favor here a cognitive approach, which means that the conditions to be met must
be thought of as cognitive, and the role played by singular thinking in our mental
lives as cognitive too. Accordingly, I argue that if the question as to whether one
can have singular thoughts about natural numbers is to be given a positive answer,
it is because it is a cognitive fact that one can. Being a cognitive fact, I also argue
that an ontological investigation into the nature of natural numbers, though
possibly relevant, is not essential to support the claim under analysis.

Singular Value Computation and Subspace ClusteringLiang, Qiao 01 January 2015 (has links)
In this dissertation we discuss two problems. In the first part, we consider the problem of computing a few extreme eigenvalues of a symmetric definite generalized eigenvalue problem or a few extreme singular values of a large and sparse matrix. The standard method of choice of computing a few extreme eigenvalues of a large symmetric matrix is the Lanczos or the implicitly restarted Lanczos method. These methods usually employ a shift-and-invert transformation to accelerate the speed of convergence, which is not practical for truly large problems. With this in mind, Golub and Ye proposes an inverse-free preconditioned Krylov subspace method, which uses preconditioning instead of shift-and-invert to accelerate the convergence. To compute several eigenvalues, Wielandt is used in a straightforward manner. However, the Wielandt deflation alters the structure of the problem and may cause some difficulties in certain applications such as the singular value computations. So we first propose to consider a deflation by restriction method for the inverse-free Krylov subspace method. We generalize the original convergence theory for the inverse-free preconditioned Krylov subspace method to justify this deflation scheme. We next extend the inverse-free Krylov subspace method with deflation by restriction to the singular value problem. We consider preconditioning based on robust incomplete factorization to accelerate the convergence. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate efficiency and robustness of the new algorithm.
In the second part of this thesis, we consider the so-called subspace clustering problem, which aims for extracting a multi-subspace structure from a collection of points lying in a high-dimensional space. Recently, methods based on self expressiveness property (SEP) such as Sparse Subspace Clustering and Low Rank Representations have been shown to enjoy superior performances than other methods. However, methods with SEP may result in representations that are not amenable to clustering through graph partitioning. We propose a method where the points are expressed in terms of an orthonormal basis. The orthonormal basis is optimally chosen in the sense that the representation of all points is sparsest. Numerical results are given to illustrate the effectiveness and efficiency of this method.
