Powder Rheology within AM production : Evaluating Compressibility, Permability, & Aeration for 316L Powders Within SLM Processes / Pulver Reologi Inom AM Production : Utvärdering av Kompressibilitet, Permeabilitet, och Luftning för 316L pulver inom SLM processer

Leo, André January 2022 (has links)
Additive manufacturing with the use of metals have been a steadily increasing field, being able to create products with a higher degree of complexity than traditional processing techniques. SLM is a popular AM process that uses metal powder as feedstock, and one of the key components of this process is the powder rheology. In recent years the use of a powder rheometer has been shown to be a good way of evaluating powder rheology of metal powders used within AM processes, but there is a clear lack of standardised tests and methods. In this study the Compressibility, Permeability, and Aeration test for 316L powders used within SLM processes was evaluated with a FT4 powder rheometer. 15 powders that had undergone printing in SLM processes were studied. This showed that the compressibility test had the best results in differentiating the bad preforming powders, thereafter the Aeration test. The Permeability test wasn’t able to differentiate the bad preforming powders with the settings used. This study demonstrates that some tests with a powder rheometer can evaluate the powder performance in SLM processes, but further research to evaluate the tests and standardise the settings are needed for clearer test results.

Optical eigenmodes for illumination & imaging

Kosmeier, Sebastian January 2013 (has links)
This thesis exploits so called “Optical Eigenmodes” (OEi) in the focal plane of an optical system. The concept of OEi is introduced and the OEi operator approach is outlined, for which quadratic measures of the light field are expressed as real eigenvalues of an Hermitian operator. As an example, the latter is employed to locally minimise the width of a focal spot. The limitations of implementing these spots with state of the art spatial beam shaping technique are explored and a selected spot with a by 40 % decreased core width is used to confocally scan an in focus pair of holes, delivering a two-point resolution enhanced by a factor of 1.3. As a second application, OEi are utilised for fullfield imaging. Therefore they are projected onto an object and for each mode a complex coupling coefficient describing the light-sample interaction is determined. The superposition of the OEi weighted with these coefficients delivers an image of the object. Compared to a point-by-point scan of the sample with the same number of probes, i.e. scanning points, the OEi image features higher spatial resolution and localisation of object features, rendering OEi imaging a compressive imaging modality. With respect to a raster scan a compression by a factor four is achieved. Compared to ghost imaging as another fullfield imaging method, 2-3 orders of magnitude less probes are required to obtain similar images. The application of OEi for imaging in transmission as well as for fluorescence and (surface enhanced) Raman spectroscopy is demonstrated. Finally, the applicability of the OEi concept for the coherent control of nanostructures is shown. For this, OEi are generated with respect to elements on a nanostructure, such as nanoantennas or nanopads. The OEi can be superimposed in order to generate an illumination of choice, for example to address one or multiple nanoelements with a defined intensity. It is shown that, compared to addressing such elements just with a focussed beam, the OEi concept reduces illumination crosstalk in addressing individual nanoelements by up to 70 %. Furthermore, a fullfield aberration correction is inherent to experimentally determined OEi, hence enabling addressing of nanoelements through turbid media.

A FRAMEWORK FOR OPTIMIZING PROCESS PARAMETERS IN POWDER BED FUSION (PBF) PROCESS USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK (ANN)

Mallikharjun Marrey (7037645) 15 August 2019 (has links)

Powder bed fusion (PBF) process is a metal additive manufacturing process, which can build parts with any complexity from a wide range of metallic materials. Research in the PBF process predominantly focuses on the impact of a few parameters on the ultimate properties of the printed part. The lack of a systematic approach to optimizing the process parameters for a better performance of given material results in a sub-optimal process limiting the potentialof the application. This process needs a comprehensive study of all the influential parameters and their impact on the mechanical and microstructural properties of a fabricated part. Furthermore, there is a need to develop a quantitative system for mapping the material properties and process parameters with the ultimate quality of the fabricated part to achieve improvement in the manufacturing cycle as well as the quality of the final part produced by the PBF process. To address the aforementioned challenges, this research proposes a framework to optimize the process for 316L stainless steel material. This framework characterizes the influence of process parameters on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the fabricated part using a series of experiments. These experiments study the significance of process parameters and their variance as well as study the microstructure and mechanical properties of fabricated parts by conducting tensile, impact, hardness, surface roughness, and densification tests, and ultimately obtain the optimum range of parameters. This would result in a more complete understanding of the correlation between process parameters and part quality. Furthermore, the data acquired from the experimentsare employed to develop an intelligent parameter suggestion multi-layer feedforward (FF) backpropagation (BP) artificial neural network (ANN). This network estimates the fabrication time and suggests the parameter setting accordingly to the user/manufacturers desired characteristics of the end-product. Further, research is in progress to evaluate the framework for assemblies and complex part designs and incorporate the results in the network for achieving process repeatability and consistency.

Low-Complexity PAPR Reduction Schemes for Multi-Carrier Systems

Wang, Sen-Hung 23 August 2010 (has links)
Selected mapping (SLM) schemes are commonly employed to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. It has been shown that the computational complexity of the traditional SLM scheme can be substantially reduced by adopting conversion vectors obtained by using the inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) of the phase rotation vectors in place of the conventional IFFT operations. To ensure that the elements of these phase rotation vectors have an equal magnitude, conversion vectors should have the form of a perfect sequence. This study firstly presents three novel classes of perfect sequence, each of which comprises certain base vectors and their cyclically shifted versions. Three novel low-complexity SLM schemes are then proposed based upon the unique structures of these perfect sequences. It is shown that while the PAPR reduction performances of the proposed schemes are marginally poorer than that of the traditional SLM scheme, the three schemes achieve a substantially lower computational complexity. Since the three proposed PAPR reduction schemes cannot be utilized in the orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system. A low-complexity scheme for PAPR reduction in OFDMA uplink systems using either an interleaved or a sub-band sub-carrier assignment strategy is also proposed in the second part of this study. The proposed scheme requires just one IFFT operation. The PAPR reduction performance of the proposed scheme is only marginally poorer than that of the traditional SLM scheme. However, the proposed schemes have significantly lower computational complexities. Besides, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) OFDM systems with space-frequency block coding (SFBC) are well-known for their robust performance in time selective fading channels. However, SFBC MIMO-OFDM systems have a high computational complexity since the number of IFFTs required scales in direct proportion to the number of antennas at the transmitter. Furthermore, SFBC MIMO-OFDM systems have a high PAPR. Accordingly, a low-complexity PAPR reduction scheme for SFBC MIMO OFDM systems with the Alamouti encoding scheme is proposed in this study. Extending this scheme obtains two low-complexity transmitter architectures for SFBC MIMO-OFDM systems with a general encoding matrix and an arbitrary number of transmitter antennas. The proposed schemes achieve a significant reduction in computational complexity by fully exploiting the time-domain signal properties of the transmitted signal. In addition, a PAPR reduction scheme is presented based on the proposed transmitter schemes. It is shown that the PAPR reduction performance of the proposed scheme is almost as good as that of the traditional SLM scheme, but is achieved with a substantially lower computational complexity.

Výpočtový model dynamického zatěžování mikro-prutové struktury vyrobené technologií Selective Laser Melting / Numerical model of lattice structure under dynamic loading made by Selective Laser Melting technology

Červinek, Ondřej January 2018 (has links)
For the purpose of mechanical impact energy absorption in the transport industry are mainly used special profile absorbers. For highly specialized applications is required to use components that are designed for specific kind of deformation. Example of these parts are industrial-made metal foams or micro-lattice structures produced by SLM technology. This paper focuses on low-velocity dynamic loading prediction of BCC micro-lattice structure made of aluminum alloy AlSi10Mg by SLM technology (SLM 280HL). For this purpose dynamic FEM simulaton of the micro-lattice structure was developed, supplemented by model of BCC structure material obtained from mechanical testing. Real geometry of tested samples obtained from optical measurement (Atos Triple Scan III) was further implemented in the numerical model. Dynamic BCC structure load experiment was performed on a drop-weight tester. Behavior of structured material in drop-weight test was described by the course of deformation and reaction forces over time. Comparable results were obtained for flat loading of dynamic FEM simulation and experiment. Inclusion of production phenomena in simulation led to increased accuracy and compliance with experiment. Tool for testing the effect of geometry change on mechanical properties was created. To achieve more accurate results with puncture load, it is necessary to modify the material model with real material deformation at test sample failure.

Analýza přesnosti výroby lamel formy pneumatiky vyráběných SLM technologií / Analysis of SLM production accuracy of sipes for tire molds

Tomeš, Jan January 2016 (has links)
The first part of the diploma thesis is focused on the analysis and evaluation of the current production of sipes by two SLM devices PXL and M2 Cusing, produced by Phenix Systems and Concept Laser companies. The samples of both machines went through the same manufacturing process and the same process of measurement and evaluation, in order to carry out comparison between individual machines. Geometric accuracy, surface roughness, mechanical properties, and material structure of the samples have been compared. For the sipes it was necessary to create a digital evaluation methodology of geometry. In the second part of the thesis, process parameters are selected on the basis of research and further their influence on surface roughness of manufactured sipes is analyzed.

Handläggningstider för fastighetsbildning : Påverkan på landsbygdsutvecklingen

Hansson, Emelie, Svensson, Lena January 2021 (has links)
During a long time period, processing times considering property formation have been a challenge for the cadastral authorities. It is specified in the Administrative Procedure Act that an errand shall be handled as simply, quickly and cost-effectively as possible. Due to the ongoing urbanisation this has been difficult to maintain. The Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority has an assignment from the government to prioritize errands that are important to the society which often includes newbuildt households, infrastructure and facilities. Agricultural and forestry property units belong to the category which often has to stand back in this process and therefore do not get prioritized. The aim of the thesis is to examine how the state cadastral authorities and the municipal cadastral authorities management of errands affects rural development. The thesis was performed through several methods to receive appropriate data information to answer the thesis research focuses. Through a literature review, public documents have been processed containing information about processing times for property formation errands and rural areas' role and challenges in society. The thesis also used two surveys and two interviews. These methods received data from property owners with their own experiences of processing times. Also information and work related experiences was received from a rural real estate agent, forestry businessman and from several cadastral surveyors. The result showed that a lot of property owners get negatively affected. Also the professionals agree that there is an effect due to long processing times. Therefore the thesis conclusion shows that the problems that can occur mainly indicates that property sales get more difficult which also can have a negative effect on rural development.
