Δόσης, Σωτήρης 26 August 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is the design and evaluation of a teaching sequence for the motion of the simple pendulum, under the innovative and constructive approach of the science curriculum. This study belongs to the ‘feasibility’ research current and was carried out at three levels: analysis, design and implementation. The level of analysis involves the analysis of Galilean epistemological framework about the motion of the pendulum, the analysis of mental representations of students about the motion of the simple pendulum and the analysis of the requirements of innovative and constructive approaches for the science curriculum. The level of design includes the formulation of learning objectives and the content development of the teaching sequence. The structural features of the sequence concern (a) the cultural dimension of scientific knowledge (the relationship between the simple pendulum and the timekeeping problem), (b) the conceptual dimension of scientific knowledge (a Galilean semi-quantitative approach of the isochronal motion of the simple pendulum) and (c) the methodological dimension of scientific knowledge (a hypothetico-deductive approach of the relation between the period of the simple pendulum, its string length and its gravitational acceleration) The proposed sequence is composed of four modules and is implemented through problem – solving activities, which are based on transformed or authentic material from the History of Science. The application level includes the experimental implementation of the teaching sequence to 36 students aged 14-15 y.o. and the evaluation of their cognitive progress that we assume took place during the teaching. A questionnaire is used to detect mental representations of students before and after having participated in the teaching intervention. Data analysis was carried out on three levels. The first level shows the positive contribution of the activities of the teaching sequence to a transformation of student responses towards the acceptable scientific school knowledge about the motion of the simple pendulum. The second level shows the overall significant cognitive progress of students in the three components of scientific knowledge, cultural, conceptual and methodological. Finally, the third level shows the positive contribution of the teaching sequence in the formation of groups of pupils using in an efficient and coherent manner both conceptual and methodological aspects of scientific knowledge.

Persons : their identity and individuation

Melin, Roger January 1998 (has links)
This study is about the nature of persons and personal identity. It belongs to a tradition that maintains that in order to understand what it is to be a person we must clarify what personal identity consists in. In this pursuit, I differentiate between the problems (i) How do persons persist? and (ii) What facts, if any, does personal identity consist in? Concerning the first question, I argue that persons persist three-dimensionally (the endurance view), and not four-dimensionally (the perdurarne view), on the ground that objects must always fall under some substance sortal concept S (the sortal dependency of individuation), and that the concept person entails that objects falling under it are three-dimensional. Concerning the second question, I differentiate between Criterianists, who maintain that it is possible to specify a non-circular and informative criterion for personal identity, and Non-Criterianists, who deny that such a specification is possible. I argue against Criterianist accounts of personal identity on the ground that they are either (i) circular, (ii) violate the intrinsicality of identity or (iii) do not adequately represent what we are essentially. I further criticise three Psychological Non-Criterianist accounts of personal identity on the ground that they wrongly assume that 'person' refers to mental entities. Instead I formulate the Revised Animal Attribute View where person is understood as a basic sortal concept which picks out a biological sort of enduring animals. In this, I claim that the real essence of a person is determined by the real essence of the kind of animal he is, without thereby denying that persons have a real essence as persons. / digitalisering@umu

Odrůdová kvalita sladovnického ječmene / Varietal quality of malting barley

KADLECOVÁ, Helena January 2015 (has links)
By purchasing malting barley the quality is evaluated according to standards, techniques, laboratory methods and qualitative indicators, which are set by norm. Evaluation of quality of barleycorn as a material for producing malt is used for setting the price, observing changes of the quality during storing etc. There were evaluated qualitative indicators of 13 sorts of malting barley, which were bought by company ZZN Pelhřimov between 2010-2014 from farmers, agricaltural cooperatives and companies and also self-employed farmers from the region Vysočina. These sorts were represented by different number of samples in connection with bought-up amount and number of supplies of each sort. Weighted averages were counted from results. Average figures of results of analysis were compared with the national average. Research institute of brewer´s and orchardist a.s. in Brno deals with monitoring of quality of malting barley in the Czech Republic and it evaluates annually ca. 500 harvest samples which were received by producers from all regions in the Czech Republic. The quality of malting barley showed a big variability in all parameters across all types and also in particular years. Malting quality is influenced by many factors especially by course of weather in each particular year. Limiting parameter of quality by purchasing malting barley was N- substances content in barleycorn. Germination capacity seems to be the most stable from all parameters. Lower figures of germination capacity were found only by winter types in connection with longer period of ripening after harvest.

One of computations that can be made with cellular automata is sorting of numerical sequences. Sorting is a quite relevant topic and widely used in computing, as one of its fundamental processes. This research aimed at the development of sorting algorithms based on one-dimensional cellular automata. Two new versions with range 1 and 3 have been proposed, inspired by the characteristics of existing studies in the literature. In the analysis carried out, the proposed cellular automata have advantages over the approaches that originated them.

Cross-platform development of smartphone applications : An evaluation of React Native

Furuskog, Martin, Wemyss, Stuart January 2016 (has links)
During the last ten years the market for smartphones has grown drastically. Because of the current state of the market with different operating systems many smartphone applications need to be developed for several platforms. With this thesis, the goal was ultimately to contribute to the understanding of cross-platform development as a way of developing smartphone applications. React Native has been evaluated as a framework with which development is done for both Android and iOS using the same code. To study React Native as a framework, a smartphone application for Android and iOS was developed at an Uppsala based IT-company with expertise in web services, smartphone applications, and online gaming. Furthermore, performance tests and user tests were conducted in which React Native was compared to native applications and applications developed using Xamarin (similar cross-platform development framework owned by Microsoft). It was evident that using the same code for both Android and iOS was time saving. However, the performance tests results showed that applications developed with React Native did not perform as well as the native and Xamarin versions. Leading to the conclusion that choice of framework when developing cross-platform applications need to take into consideration performance, development time, and programming language preference.

One perception doesn’t fit all : are you prepared to meet all your online learners’ needs?

Lucas, Ulinda 02 December 2004 (has links)
Online innovations have been growing rapidly in the past number of years. The integration of online learning with these technological advancements creates significant challenges in determining how the use of technology can contribute to the delivery of learning materials. An area where little research has been undertaken is in determining the skills and attributes online facilitators need to be effective. This study is based on inputs gathered from both online facilitators and online learners. These inputs provided empirical information pertaining to the roles and tasks of both facilitators and learners in an ideal online learning environment. Of what benefit would this study be to future online learning? Taking cognisance of an ideal online environment, the outcomes of this study are categorised into unique groups that will provide insight to the future development of online facilitators and the tasks to be executed in addressing the diverse needs of the online learner in the knowledge era. / Dissertation (MEd (CIE))--University of Pretoria, 2005. / Curriculum Studies / unrestricted

Different ways of seeing political depictions: A qualitative–quantitative analysis using Q methodology

Lobinger, Katharina, Brantner, Cornelia 23 June 2020 (has links)
Visual depictions of politicians play an essential role in the impression formation of the audience because they convey visual cues and attributes related to, for example, likeability or competence. This study examines the subjective audience evaluations based on the visual portrayals of a politician by using Q methodology, a qualitative–quantitative approach of audience research. Q-sorts of 33 different pictures showing a high-ranking European politician, along with personal interviews, were used to probe the audience’s perception of a favorable or unfavorable picture. Q factor analysis yielded four groups of participants. The audience groups differ regarding their expectation toward favorably depicted political behavior and the involved balance of professional political leadership competences, social competences, and personality. In addition, technical and formal representation strategies were identified as important visual cues, but not for all audience groups.

Optimierte Visualisierung auf segmentierten Anzeigen

Lorenz, Mario 07 July 2005 (has links)
