An exploratory study of the experiences of Year 7 pupils with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) on transition to mainstream secondary school

Bennett-Warne, Anita January 2015 (has links)
The majority of children with ASC are educated within a mainstream secondary setting. The challenges within the new environment may lead to some children experiencing a breakdown in provision resulting in temporary or permanent exclusions. A gap in the literature highlights a need for research which seeks to understand the views and experiences of year 7 children with ASCs about theirtransition to mainstream secondary school. The research involved four year 7 children with ASC, from across three settings, who had recently transitioned from a mainstream primary school to a mainstream secondary school (without resource based provision). The views of their parents and teachers were also sought. A multiple-embedded case study design was employed involving four cases from across three school settings. This involved utilising a transition Q-sort and a semi-structured interview with four children and semi-structured interviews with six parents and three teachers. The data was analysed using content analysis and thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006). The findings highlight a need for individualised transition planning for the child with ASC; consideration of co-occurring difficulties and the importance of including the views of the child and parents in transition planning. The findings are discussed in relation to psychological theories and existing literature. The implications for future research, local authority policy, school staff, parents and educational psychologists are considered.

Modelování nesymetrického třífázového vedení / Modelling of unsymmetrical three-phase line

Vápeník, René January 2009 (has links)
The subject of the thesis is creation and description of mathematical model of three-phase asymmetric power line and proposal for three-phase operation calculating of the power network by variet aspects. Another component is the creation of a program in PHP, which would use this mathematical model for the calculation of the three-phase operation of the power network. Part of this work deals with derivation of matrices of elementary multipoles and their serial ordering derive complex multipoles that can be use for concentrated parameters compensation of the power lines.

A User-Centric Tabular Multi-Column Sorting Interface For Intact Transposition Of Columnar Data

Miles, David B. L. 12 January 2006 (has links) (PDF)
Many usability features designed in software applications are not procedurally intuitive for software users. A good example of software usability involves tabular sorting in a spreadsheet. Single-column sorting, activated with a mouse click to a column header or toolbar button, often produces rearranged listings that reduce cognitive organization beyond the sorted column. Multi-column sorting, generated through menu-driven processes, provides derived organization, however, locating feature options through menu-based systems can be confusing. A means to overcome this confusion is prioritized selection of database arrays issued to columnar displays for the purpose of intact transposition of data. This is a unique process designed as a user-centric tabular multi-column sorting interface. Designed within this experimental software application is a "trickle down" logic perceived as a navigation rule. The design offers logic associated with decision choices as used to pursue a software solution. The solution in this instance is a compiled resultant of separate and distinct columnar data sorting. The design was initially implemented in a software application housing thousands of examination scores. Observations of the design concept's effectiveness in practice led to further investigation through this master's thesis. To validate the research design, research participants were introduced to an example of traditional database sort/selection with practice examples. These users were also provided sorting exercises to reinforce the discussed concepts--both experimental and traditional. Finally, a survey questionnaire allowed them to provide feedback about the different task methods for sorting as well as the experience of using these dissimilar methods. The hypothesis was not validated through the research survey. Consideration of observations of the design in a production environment for four years, however, provided impetus to suggest further research of the design concept.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Berilo Luigi Deiro Nosella.pdf: 517440 bytes, checksum: d451e316214cec8d93a007e898878fb4 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2007-03-11 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This master degree main objective is the analysis and the study of the dramatical workmanship composition Six Personages in Search of an Author , witch is studied here as Seis Personagens em Busca de um Autor by Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936), staged for the first time in 1921, in Rome / Italy, reaching success in the entire world and deeply influencing the art of the teatral representation of the century XX. The objectives of the research send to analyze the modern elements gifts in the text Six Personages in Search of an Author and to the verification of the specific items on this modern pirandellian text in debate with modernity and contemporality. Basically, here, the analysis if guideline in the reflection on the existence of a tension between tradition and renewal, characteristic of the modernity in general way and specific way of the workmanship of Pirandello. It is treated, therefore, of formal examining the renewal as crisis of the tradition while factor of revelation and denudation as crisis of the modern world that is present like a mean form in the workmanship of Pirandello and in the Modern Drama . The literary analysis of the pirandellian text was based, initially, in the theoretical debate on the question of the literary sorts for the definition of the concept of Modern Drama . For this issue, this thought followed a line that begins with Hegel, goes to Georg Lukács and finishes with Peter Szondi. Advancing in this way, it was turned back to the proper theoretical texts of Pirandello, mainly O Humorismo , wrote in 1903, that involves the modernity of the drama and how it would be articulated, later, in an artistic form. A critical historical pillar helped to support the recital of this work that had as purpose understand and context this workmanship of Pirandello in its time and the present time. It was established, a parallel between two authors: the Italian, contemporary Pirandello, Antonio Gramsci and the german, Walter Benjamin. This debate in allowed in such a way to invest them in the analysis of the tension between form and content, renewing the art of drama of Pirandello culturally (as content) and the respective esthetic way (as form) / Trata, a presente dissertação, da análise e do estudo da obra dramática Seis Personagens em Busca de um Autor, de Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936), encenada pela primeira vez em 1921, em Roma, Itália, alcançando sucesso no mundo todo e influenciando profundamente a dramaturgia do século XX.

Analyse de la diversité inter et intra-spécifique des paramètres de l’architecture des systèmes racinaires chez les Solanacées / Analysis of the inter and intra specific diversity of the parameters of the root system architecture in the Solanaceae

Bui, Hong-Hai 20 November 2015 (has links)
Analysis of the inter and intra specific diversity of the parameters of the root system architecture in the Solanaceae.Plant roots play an important role to ensure the productivity and the resistance to manystresses. In new agricultural context, the importance of root system and its architecture are placed tothe forefront. Our study focuses on the root architecture dynamics of Solanaceae, which contains aseries of important horticultural species for the alimentation. Our work was based on 32 genotypesbelonging to three groups of species: aubergines, capsicums, and tomatoes. In this study, we propose firstly an analysis of inter‐ and intra ‐ specific diversity of rootarchitecture through evaluating a set of traits which are also the parameters of a dynamic simulationmodel (ArchiSimple: Pagès et al, 2012). The experiment in pots with a very favorable condition forplant growth and rooting was conducted for the first evaluation. It showed that the selected roottraits present an effect of genetic ‐ originated variations and this effect is usually stronger amongspecies than within species. We also found correlations between certain traits, which revealcompromises or coordinations in the developmental processes. In order to go deeper into the signification of selected root traits and their stability toenvironmental conditions, we also evaluated these traits in hydroponic culture. This environment isradically different, and interesting for its possibilities to visualize the roots. An experimental setupwith hydroponic rhizotrons was specially built for this experiment. In the new conditions, the genetic‐ originated differences between different genotypes used also were found. In addition, wecompared systematically the traits values with those of the previous experiment. Certain traits arestable or highly correlated (e.g., apical diameter, inter‐branch distance), while others are muchdifferent (e.g., root growth rate, emission rate of adventitious roots). In a third experiment, we used different grafting combinations between genotypes todeepen the question of the control of root traits by interactions within plant: either short distancecontrol within root system or long distance control by aerial system. Two important root traits (apicaldiameter and branching density) have been studied by grafting between genotypes which havecontrasting values on these traits. The different responses appear: a significant effect of scion ondiameters, which indicate that at least of this trait is controlled by shoot system, and a weak effect orno effect of scion on branching density, revealing the local control of this trait, by short distanceinteractions between the roots. This experiment showed a great potential of grafting to highlightvarious control mechanisms of root traits within whole plant.AbstractBui H.H. (2015), Diversité inter- et intra-spécifique des paramètres racinaires chez les Solanacées 113This study deserve to be extended by more systematic analysis of determinisms of variationsof root architecture traits, and by using simulation model which allow to integrate the consequencesof traits variations on global performances of root system for prospecting of soil.

The effects of climate change on short-term insurance claims in South Africa

Madzingira, Nyasha 12 1900 (has links)
Climate change has become one of the most debated environmental risks. The world is faced with the threat of weather variability. There has been an increase in the frequency and severity of extreme weather events. There is rising concern that weather losses might affect the sustainability of insurance businesses. The primary obective of the study was to ascertain the significance of changes in temperature, precipitation and wind speeds in explaining changes in weather-related claims.Furthermore the reseach had three key secondary objectives, firstly to find if changes in annual average temperature levels lead to changes in weather-related claims. Secondly to determine if average annual wind speeds lead to changes in weather-related loss .Thirdly to establish if the average changes in annual rainfall or precipitation levels lead to changes in weather-related claims. Quantitatively this study explored the relationship between climate change and weather losses in South Africa. Temperature, rainfall, and wind speed were the main weather variables analysed. Lack of properly recorded insured weather losses was the major challenge. Nonetheless, total economic weather losses were used as a proxy for insured weather losses. The analysis employed regression, cointegration and vector error correction models. Study findings showed that climate change is influencing weather losses. The existence of correlation and causality between weather variables and losses was also affirmed. Thus the insurance industry should comprehensively incorporate climate change into its business strategy to minimise exposure. / Business Management / M. Com. (Business Management)

New empirics on transdisciplinary political economics : essays on the economics of democratic modalities / Nouvel empirisme en économie politique transdisciplinaire : essais sur les effets économiques des modalités démocratiques

Mandon, Pierre 20 December 2017 (has links)
The aim of the present dissertation is to empirically investigate the economic impact of three democratic modalities, namely (i) the electoral agenda; (ii) the partisan affiliation of incumbents in a multipartism framework; and (iii) constitutionally defined leadership changes. To introduce the scope of the dissertation we describe the democratic modalities and direct democracy behind the U.S. fiscal policy from 1790 to 2014, in the General Introduction. In Chapter 2 we study the genuine detrimental effect of political budget cycles. Our meta-analysis suggests that national leaders do manipulate fiscal tools in order to be re-elected, but to an extent that is significantly exaggerated in the literature. The publication selection bias highlighted has nonetheless been reduced during the past 25 years of research. In Chapter 3 we investigate how governors' partisan affiliation affects the poverty status of immigrants to the U.S for the period 1994-2014. To this end, we compare the poverty outcomes of immigrants in states ruled by Democratic governors relative to the outcomes for those in states ruled by Republican governors. Consistent with the literature on partisan affiliation, we find that immigrants are more likely to get out of poverty in states with Democratic governors than states with Republican governors. A formal mediation analysis reveals that the empirical results are mediated through better access to the labor market and possibly through higher wages and labor earnings for immigrants. In Chapter 4 we assess whether sovereign credit ratings change during the inauguration periods of incoming leaders, on a sample of 18 Latin American and Caribbean countries with presidential systems. Building on a daily panel dataset covering the period from January 1, 1994 to December 31, 2014, we find that credit ratings are better during anticipated inauguration periods compared to other inauguration periods. Moreover, our results reveal that, during anticipated inauguration periods, incoming leaders with (i) an economically right-wing orientation; (ii) an OECD college degree; (iii) a traditional professional background; (iv) a non-populist approach; and (v) large electoral margins of victory are associated to even better ratings. There also appears to be a potential gender bias effect in favor of male incoming leaders. Last but not least, the quality of the credit rating also matters. In the General Conclusion we explore the roots of anti-systemism in the West, then we discuss some alternative forms of democracy, and we explore the controversies regarding the alternative forms of democracy on the virtual \emph{agora} of Twitter.

Dinaminės duomenų struktūros ir kai kurių jų algoritmų realizavimas rodyklėmis / Dynamic Data Structures And The Realisation Of Some Algorithms By Pointers

Suchaževskaja, Tatjana 08 June 2005 (has links)
The present research paper deals with the comparison of static and dynamic data structures: static array, dynamic array, pointers array - class TList (Delphi) and dynamic doubly linked list, created with the help of recursive record. To compare the above mentioned structures, sorting (Bubble) and convex hull creation algorithms (Graham, Endrew) are realized, with the time of their implementation analysed. The algorithm of sorting (Bubble) is realized by four ways: static array, dynamic array, pointers array (class TList) and a dynamic doubly linked list, created with the help of recursive record. The algorithms of convex hull creation (Graham, Endrew) is realized by three ways: static array, dynamic array and pointers array (TList). The research paper also describes the pointers array class TList (Delphi), its properties and methods. The sorting method Sort of this class is compared with the sorting method of a “Bubble”. Using class templates, a universal class MList (C++) was created for work with dynamic linear linked lists.

Juan, Muriel 28 June 2012 (has links)
Classical phenomenon in labour law, the changes which happens in an activity’s management or organisation and the resulting question of the employee’s fate appears like one of the most important contemporary labour law’s subject. Despite it concerns public undertakings engaged in economic activities, whether or not they are operating for gain, as well as private undertakings, this dimension is nevertheless well known and characterised by a lack of detailed analysis, at least by a putting in perspective’s lack of all hypothesis concerned. Consequently, this study chooses to consider the social issue following public activities changes in its globality by including all cases concerned, as well in an organic point of vue (employees nature, original structure or welcoming structure nature) then in a material point of vue (public activities externalization, return of an activity under a public control, decentralization, powers’ transfers between local authorities, privatization of public ownerships, etc.). This study’s aim is to reveal the importance of the human element in the event of a change on activity’s management or organisation and to give, in a practical view, the keys to resolve the social issue which belongs to each activity’s changes, whatever is the working hypothesis concerned. First, depending on the public or private nature of the personnel, it should be clearly identified the tranfer’s obligations which could exist according to labour legislation or a collective agreement and to bring them face to political decision to keep or redeploy employees. Then, it must be explained the procedure of transfer. More particularly, it should be confirmed if the transfer needs to be accepted by each employee, to be formalized by a contract signature or as well to be submitted to union companies. Finally, it is important to envisage precisely the transfer consequences as for employers then for employees, in financial (wages, individual or collective benefits, etc.) and operational terms (human resources organisation, management rules between original employer and new employer in case of provided civil servant, etc.).
