Individuação e expatriação: resiliência da esposa acompanhante

Borba, Daniela 07 November 2008 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-28T20:39:54Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Daniela Borba.pdf: 1023335 bytes, checksum: b60738235fbb4b3ca6fde8bda517ff10 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-11-07 / The present study has intended to understand the acculturation experience in Brazil, among ten Latin-American Spanish speaking women, following their executive expatriate husbands. Expatriation is a form of globalized immigration, characterized by a change of countries without the changing companies. The verbal material from the interviews (were treated under the Collective Subject, Speech Method), the resilience test content, as well as the dialogue between three approaches: intercultural psychology, human resilience and the analytical psychology of C. G. Jung, have contributed to establishing findings that can contribute with the understanding of a transformation process that takes place in this context. A initial period of mourning is started by the enrooting process and the ambivalent losses from: social net and gender roles changing, professional versus family conflict and, cultural and intrapsychic boundaries destabilization. Such adversity has induced, through self overcoming, the development in other areas such as: the recognition of deep relationships importance, flexibility, patience, positive attitude, new cultural codes acquisition, deepening of family relations, and the increase of motherhood and femininity. On the other hand, some risk factors for this experience have been found. Their relationship with the Brazilian culture, for instance, were characterized as superficial e restrict, for the majority, indicating a acculturation process as separation. This defensive form of intercultural relation, allowed the participants to perceive some Brazilian inferior cultural complex symptoms (low self-esteem, passiveness, uncommitted behavior, pleasure search and law disrespect). Shallowness, thus, occurs both ways of this intercultural encounter. Risk factors were also found: a high control of impulses joined to a low regulation of emotions indicates that, as repression tends to increase, the emotional control diminish, stopping wishes and plans from happening, and also expanding the dependence on the spouse. Therefore, to stimulate a healthy development is most important that health and organizational professionals, and the participants themselves, notice and encourage: 1. acculturation by means of cultural integration, 2. the balance of resilience factors, and 3. the individuation process resulting from the elaboration of deeper layers of the unconscious, brought up by the intercultural experience. As conclusion, the path of development for these women indicates the need of investments in their own projects, apart from family, so that, through self-accomplishment, they turn expatriation into their own journey / A presente pesquisa buscou compreender a experiência de aculturação no Brasil, de 10 mulheres hispano-americanas, casadas com executivos expatriados.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Ana Paula Gomes De Oliveira.pdf: 1430620 bytes, checksum: 324a771b8afcad67e86a0dcb77e7d5e5 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-09-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Aging has been drawing attention from governments and significant portions of society. This is a consequence of the increase of the elderly population and it has implications for the structures of the social, economic and cultural relations. This matter is challenging because it makes visible the different aspects of longevity. Consequently, the focus is on chronic degenerative diseases, as they are primarily related to many more years of life. In Brazil, women who take care of their husbands are not visible to the statistics. The reality is that there is an increase in cases of spouse care related to dementia. This work focus on that scenario. In the present study, elder subject requires caregivers caused by some degree of dependence on their daily activities. We will carry out a case study, with a previously chosen subject, trying to bring out the behaviors, perceptions and feelings of the caregiver spouse. We will study about these complex aspects of the relationship, particularly in the situation of a long-term marriage. That strong links are essential in the care of an elderly person, and may provide a basis for follow-up in cases where there is the presence of family caregivers. It is also noted the importance of psychological support to family caregivers and professional caregivers, considering the emotional aspects as necessary to a note that should take into account the possibility of human suffering in any scenario / O envelhecimento vem chamando atenção de governos e de significativas parcelas da sociedade.

Phenomenological Study of the Lived Experiences of Appalachian Spouses of Combat Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Greene, Janice E 01 May 2017 (has links)
This study was conducted to identify gaps in existing knowledge regarding impacts of combat-related PTSD on the spouse and to gain an understanding of the lived experience of Appalachian Spouses of combat veterans with PTSD. A systematic literature review was conducted to identify research and findings on the impacts of combat-related PTSD on spouses of veterans and a qualitative study was conducted to gain an understanding of the lives of Appalachian spouses of combat veterans with PTSD. The systematic review identified 16 qualitative studies conducted between 1988 and 2016 in five countries spanning five wars. Regardless of the country of study or the war, the spouses experienced problems dealing with the symptoms of PTSD, emotional distress, impacts to relationships and caregiver burden. The systematic literature review revealed limited information on minority or underserved populations. Qualitative interview data from ten Appalachian spouses of combat veterans with PTSD were examined to gain an understanding of their lives. Data were obtained from semi-structured interviews. Findings indicate Appalachian Vietnam veteran spouses experience similar problems dealing with the veteran’s symptoms of PTSD, relationship problems, mental health problems and caregiver burden. The veterans in this study were not diagnosed with PTSD until later in life so they spent the majority of their life without knowledge or treatment for the illness. The women in this study expressed concerns that government and society have marginalized Vietnam veterans. This research highlights the need for outreach and PTSD education for Vietnam veterans and their spouses. Future research is recommended to expand the body of knowledge on the impacts of PTSD on the spouse with particular attention to other cultures, minority and underserved populations.

The Lived Experiences of Military Spouses Who Choose to Live Separately

Just-Bourgeois, Cortenia LaShea 01 January 2019 (has links)
This qualitative study was designed and conducted to hear the voices of military spouses who chose to live separately from the active duty spouse. The study also sought to identify potential risks due to the separation and protective factors that were used to positively cope with separation. Previous studies have examined risk factors for military spouses as a result of military induced separation such as deployment. However, no study has been conducted regarding separation by choice of the military spouse and active duty service member. The theory of resiliency provided an understanding of the presence of protective factors and resiliency. Data were collected from 8 military spouses, recruited through social media, using semistructured interviews, who provided details of their lived experience of voluntary separation. The study findings indicated that participants who were voluntarily separated from their active duty spouse were unhappy with the separation. All but 1 of the participants in the study experienced separation stressors such as being stressed, overwhelmed, lonely, and sad because to the separation. Negative psychological symptoms such as depression and anxiety were experienced by military spouses voluntarily separated 7 months and longer. Social support, such as family, was identified by all participants in the study as a protective factor helping them cope with the separation. The findings of the study provide other military spouses with knowledge on voluntary separation. Additionally, federal and state mental health professionals and policy makers can gain better understanding and knowledge about this population to help foster positive mental health and designed laws to assist military spouses.

If he is well, I am well : a Participatory Action Research project to plan support for relatives to younger persons with dementia

Larsson, Lena January 2009 (has links)
The aim of this Participatory Action Research (PAR) project was to, in collaboration with relatives, plan support for relatives to persons with dementia below 65 years of age. PAR is an interactive research method based on reflection, analysis and action. Two groups of relatives participated in focus groups at three occasions and data were content analysed. Relatives were wives or husbands to a younger person with dementia. Findings showed that relatives pass through a similar transition process as the person. It is important to offer individualized support initially, support that needs to be changed as the disease proceeds. Furthermore, the study showed that if relatives shall manage their own anxiety, uncertainty, and feelings of loneliness, emotional support is necessary. However, it is impossible to just offer direct support to the relatives without considering the sick persons’ needs. Finally, a personal guide that could follow the couple trough the entire process would be of importance.</p>

Mose, Isaiah. January 2008 (has links)
<p><font face="Times New Roman">This study explored the lived experience of spouses living with depressed partners. A qualitative phenomenological,&nbsp / exploratory study design was used to explore the lived experience of the spouses, identifying the coping strategies and challenges that they face as they live with the depressed partners. A purposive sample of seven spouses living with their depressed partners who were being treated in outpatient department were recruited to participate in the study.</font></p> <p align="left">In-depth, face-to-face interviews were conducted, audiotaped with the participants&rsquo / permission and transcribed verbatim. The data from the transcripts, field notes, and demographic questionnaires was organized ready for analysis. Thematic data analysis was used to code the data, and group the codes to form categories. The categories were further regrouped to form themes. The themes were conceptualized and contextualized to uncover the meaning that the spouse carers attached to the lived experience.</p> <p align="left">It emerged that most of the spouses described their partners and the relationship negatively due to the burden of care. The male carers as compared to the female carers expressed the negativity more and it impacted on the quality of care they were providing to the depressed partners. It was revealed that inadequate professional support was linked with the ineffective coping strategies employed by the spouse carers. Hence, most of the spouse carers presented with symptoms of depression and were at the stage of impoverishment according to the adaptive potential assessment model. A recommendation to involve spouse carers in the treatment plan and improve the support system to the spouse carers was made to the stakeholders of health service providers at the primary health level.</p>

The Paradox of Women's Rights: Malaysia's Struggle Towards Legal And Religious Pluralism

Binti Mohammad, Shazalyna 21 November 2012 (has links)
Family is the foundation society. Women are the backbone of families even in fundamental patriarchal society like Malaysia. However, Malaysia’s system of religious accommodation results in different rights available to individuals based on the states diverse religious affiliation. Contemporary family issues are inadequately addressed in current Malaysian Family Law: one for the Muslims and one for the non-Muslims. Most cases highlighted inconsistencies when conversion to Islam affected the rights of women during breakdown of marriage. In permitting a path to accommodate diversity, and to reach a new engagement between the civil and the Shariah courts, it is necessary to appreciate Malaysia’s history, sentiment, constraints and strengths. This paper proposes that not only Malaysia has adequate strengths to provide a strong platform to address the conflict, but possesses the mechanisms to create a dynamic set of joint governance of Family Laws to enhance religious accommodation.
