Chuva de sementes sob árvores isoladas em pastagens próximas a fragmentos florestais

In this context, we selected the Basin Corumbataí (BHRC), São Paulo (22 ° 04'46 "and 22 ° 41'28" S, 47 ° 26'23 "and 47 ° 56'15'' W) to understand the role of native trees isolated in pastures consolidated in maintaining connectivity between forest fragments near. So we had a goal, answer the following questions: i) Isolation of native trees in pastures, determined by distance, proximity index, fragment size and forest cover (within a radius of 900 m from the isolated tree), as well as characteristics of isolated trees, height and crown area, can determine the abundance and richness of seeds derived from the seed rain under isolated trees? ii) The richness and abundance of seeds produced from the seed rain is greater under native trees isolated in pastures than inside fragments of semideciduous forests adjacent to pastures of BHRC? We installed 36 seed collectors with an area of 1.5 m2: 18 of them within three fragments, and the other 18 under isolated trees in pastures. We collected fortnightly for six months. We recognize, identify and categorize the seeds on the type of dispersal and seed size sampled. To answer the first question, we tested whether differences in the abundance and species richness could be determined by isolation and structural characteristics (height and crown area) of native trees in the pastures of BHRC regarding forest fragments. Conducted multiple regression analyzes using generalized linear models. To reply the second question, we performed an analysis of covariance to compare the richness and mean abundance of seeds among isolated trees and inside the fragments. We use the sort method of Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS) to ascertain the similarity in species composition in the two environments; use the rank-abundance curve to analyze evenness in the distribution of species in both environments. Regarding isolated trees in pastures, we found that those with higher canopy cover and closer to forest fragments exhibit greater abundance of animal dispersed seeds, especially when considering the seeds zoochoric "small" (<3 mm), whose abundances were higher in trees with greater canopy cover, closer to forest fragments and in areas with high forest cover. Plenty of seeds > 3 mm, anemochoric or autochorous as well as the wealth of animal dispersed anemochoric or autochorous, no significant differences in relation to the isolation of the trees. Comparing seed rain under trees and isolated within the forest fragments, found that forest fragments are richest and most abundant species arising from the rain, but the difference was expressed only in relations: total species richness anemochoric, being clearer results for the seeds between 3.0 mm and 10 mm and larger than 10 mm; abundance anemochoric of between 3.0 mm and 10 mm and the total wealth of animal dispersed, especially those smaller than 3.0 mm. NMDS analyzes revealed that most of the samples (both trees as isolated forest fragments) share the same species. Through rank-abundance curve, we found that the evenness in the abundance of species collected is distributed differently (p = 0.03) and between individual trees within the forest fragments, being more equitable within the fragments, in addition, more species were found in the interior of the fragments under isolated trees. Isolated trees in pastures can serve as recruitment points of seeds and plants and potentially contribute to maintaining the flow of propagules, acting as connectors between forest fragments scattered across the landscape. Nevertheless, the retention and conservation of forest fragments dispersed in agricultural matrices can contribute to the maintenance of seed rain, given the composition and structure of species present. / As Florestas Estacionais Semideciduais do interior do estado de São Paulo encontram-se fortemente fragmentadas devido ao histórico intensivo de intervenções humanas na paisagem, destacando-se as atividades agropecuárias. Nesse contexto, selecionamos a Bacia Hidrográfica do rio Corumbataí (BHRC), São Paulo (22°04'46" e 22°41'28"S; 47°26'23" e 47°56'15''W), para entender parte do papel das árvores nativas isoladas em pastagens consolidadas na manutenção da conectividade entre fragmentos florestais próximos. Assim, tivemos por objetivo responder às seguintes questões: i) O isolamento de árvores nativas em pastagens, determinado pela distância, índice de proximidade, tamanho do fragmento e cobertura florestal (num raio de 900 m a partir da árvore isolada), bem como características das árvores isoladas, altura e área da copa, podem determinar a abundância e riqueza de sementes oriundas da chuva de sementes sob as árvores isoladas? ii) A riqueza e abundância de sementes advindas da chuva de sementes é maior sob árvores nativas isoladas em pastagens que no interior de fragmentos de florestas estacionais semideciduais adjacentes às pastagens da BHRC? Instalamos 36 coletores de sementes com área de 1,5 m2: 18 deles no interior de três fragmentos; e os outros 18 sob árvores isoladas em pastagens. Fizemos coletas quinzenais durante seis meses. Triamos, contabilizamos, identificamos e categorizamos as sementes quanto à síndrome de dispersão e o tamanho das sementes amostradas. Para responder à primeira pergunta, testamos se as diferenças na abundância e riqueza de espécies poderiam ser determinadas pelo isolamento e características estruturais (altura e área da copa) das árvores nativas nas pastagens da BHRC em relação aos fragmentos florestais. Realizamos análises de regressão múltipla, utilizando modelos lineares generalizados. Para responder à segunda pergunta, realizamos análises de covariância para comparar a riqueza e abundância média de sementes entre as árvores isoladas e no interior dos fragmentos. Utilizamos o método de ordenação de Escalonamento Multidimensional Não-Métrico (NMDS) para averiguar a similaridade na composição de espécies nos dois ambientes; utilizamos o gráfico da curva de ranking-abundância para analisar a equitatividade na distribuição das espécies nos dois ambientes. A respeito das árvores isoladas nas pastagens, verificamos que aquelas com maior cobertura de copa e mais próximas aos fragmentos florestais apresentam maior abundância de sementes zoocóricas, especialmente quando consideramos as sementes zoocóricas pequenas (< 3 mm), cujas abundâncias foram maiores em árvores com maior cobertura de copa, mais próximas ao fragmentos florestais e em áreas com maior cobertura florestal. A abundância de sementes > 3 mm, anemocóricas ou autocóricas, bem como a riqueza de zoocóricas, anemocóricas ou autocóricas, não apresentaram diferenças significativas em relação ao isolamento das árvores. Comparando a chuva de sementes sob árvores isoladas e no interior dos fragmentos florestais, encontramos que os fragmentos florestais são mais ricos e abundantes em espécies advindas da chuva; porém, a diferença significativa foi expressa apenas nas relações: riqueza total de espécies anemocóricas, sendo mais evidentes os resultados para as sementes entre 3,0 mm e 10 mm e maiores que 10 mm; abundância de anemocóricas entre 3,0 mm e 10 mm e a riqueza total de zoocóricas, principalmente naquelas menores que 3,0 mm. As análises de NMDS revelaram que a maior parte das amostras coletadas (tanto das árvores isoladas quanto dos fragmentos florestais) compartilham as mesmas espécies. Pela curva de ranking-abundância, verificamos que a equitatividade na abundância de espécies coletadas distribui-se de maneira distinta (p = 0,03) entre árvores isoladas e no interior dos fragmentos florestais, sendo mais equitativo no interior dos fragmentos; além disso, foram encontradas mais espécies no interior dos fragmentos que sob as árvores isoladas. As árvores isoladas em pastagens podem servir como pontos de recrutamento de sementes e propágulos e potencialmente contribuir para manutenção do fluxo de propágulos, atuando como conectores entre fragmentos florestais dispersos pela paisagem. Não obstante, a permanência e conservação dos fragmentos florestais dispersos em matrizes agrícolas podem contribuir para a manutenção da chuva de sementes, dada a composição e estrutura de espécies que apresentam.

O estudo fixou-se entre os anos 1963 e 1967, na Inglaterra – período de surgimento e explosão midiática dos dois grupos – vista pela cobertura dos jornais The Times e The Guardian. A pesquisa busca fatos em artigos e matérias jornalísticas da imprensa britânica, baseadas na construção de suas imagens, através da publicação dessas reportagens.

Caracterização experimental de soluções de reforço para placas de rochas ornamentais / Experimental characterization of reinforcement to ornamental stones slabs

Um grande número de rochas de granulação grosseira tem valor agregado muito alto quando usadas como materiais de construção, as chamadas rochas exóticas. No entanto, existem problemas com a utilização desses materiais dado a sua fragilidade, que está relacionada com a sua textura muito heterogênea. No Brasil é empregado empiricamente um reforço (compósito) que utiliza resina epóxi e fibra de vidro para melhorar o desempenho mecânico de tais rochas quando empregadas como materiais de construção. Os objetivos da presente pesquisa foram estudar o reforço tradicional brasileiro (telagem) para determinar sua eficiência e, ao mesmo tempo, propor outras soluções de reforço alternativas e mais eficientes, e avaliá-las através da caracterização mecânica experimental. Foi proposto um critério denominado Declive Global para avaliar as tensões de serviço dos materiais pegmatíticos estudados, quando os reforços propostos foram aplicados. Para validar esse critério foi utilizado um sistema de correlação digital de imagem (CDI) para observar e medir o comportamento de deformação e fratura durante a realização de testes de flexão em 4 pontos. Tanto o critério proposto como a CDI mostraram que a propagação de fissuras ocorre muito antes do material atingir a carga máxima. O reforço alternativo proposto, que emprega resina epóxi e uma fibra de vidro 600 g/m² apresentou o melhor desempenho mecânico, elevando a carga de ruptura até 6x em comparação com as amostras onde nenhum reforço foi aplicado. Os resultados demonstrados pelos reforços propostos são promissores e aumentam a possibilidade de aplicar rochas exóticas frágeis como materiais de construção, além do critério proposto fornecer uma ferramenta importante para a compreensão mecânica prévia de produtos de rocha que utilizam reforços compósitos. / A great number of coarse-grained natural stones have very high added-value when used as building materials, the so called exotic stones. However, problems using these materials arise from its brittleness behavior, which are related to its very heterogeneous texture. Glass fiber-reinforced epoxy composite (GFRC) is being used to improve mechanical performance of such stones when employed as building materials. The objectives of this present investigation it were studying the Brazilian traditional reinforcement to determinate its efficiency and, at the same time, a number of alternative solutions were proposed and evaluated through experimental mechanical characterization. It was proposed a slope-based criterion to evaluate the useful service loads of pegmatitic materials when glass fiber-reinforcement is applied. To validate the proposed criterion, a digital image correlation (DIC) system was employed to observe and measure strain and fracture behavior during the realization of 4-point bending tests. Both proposed criterion and DIC show that crack propagation occurs long before the material reaches maximum load. GFRC acts as a crack inhibitor, raising the breaking load up to 6x in comparison with the specimens where no reinforcement was applied. The results from this study enhance the capability to apply such materials as building materials and provide an important tool to perform prior mechanical understanding of stone products using GFRC.

Avaliação química e termoanalítica de cálculos biliares e bile vesicular humana de pacientes do sexo masculino / Chemical evaluation and termoanalítica of human gallstones and gallbladder bile of male patients

Este trabalho teve como meta principal ampliar o estudo anteriormente relatado por Mercuri em 2000, agora com a caracterização química e termoanalítica de cálculos biliares e as biles vesiculares humanas, especificamente, de pacientes do sexo masculino. Para ambos os tipos de caracterização foram utilizadas várias técnicas, como: (a) Análise Elementar (AE), para determinação de teores de C, H e N. (b) Espectroscopia no infravermelho com transformada de Fourier (FTIR), com o objetivo de verificar as bandas de absorção no IV e assim identificar algumas substâncias que fazem parte desses materiais. (c) Difratometria de Raios X (DRX), para identificar formações cristalinas de espécies presentes nas amostras de cálculos biliares. (d) Espectrometria de Absorção Atômica (AAS), para a determinação do teor de alguns metais como por exemplo: Cd, Pb e Cu. (e) Ressonância Magnética Nuclear (RMN), para ratificar a presença de colesterol e afastar a hipótese de ter-se ergosterol na amostra e (f) TG/DTG e DSC aplicadas para o estudo do comportamento térmico das amostras de cálculos biliares e biles. Este trabalho permitiu concluir que: alguns tipos de cálculos biliares do universo de pacientes do sexo masculino que foram estudados puderam ser inseridos na classificação proposta anteriormente, no entanto, cinco dessas amostras não se encaixaram em nenhum desses grupos, sugerindo, com isso, a adição de novos grupos. Verificou-se, também, que a porcentagem de cálculos biliares formados por colesterol é menor para essa classe de pacientes. Em duas amostras de cálculos biliares encontrou-se CaCO3 cristalizado como aragonita, outra indicou a presença de fosfato de cálcio e em duas dessas amostras foram encontrados um alto teor de chumbo. No caso das biles, seis amostras indicaram a presença de NaCl (halita) e uma delas indicou, também, a presença de colesterol. / This work had as goal main to enlarge the study previously related for Mercuri in 2000, now with the chemical and thermoanalytical characterization of gallstones and the human vesicular bile, specifically, of patient of the masculine sex. For both the kinds of characterization were used several techniques, as: (a) Elementary analysis (AE), for contents determination of C, H and N. (b) Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), with objective of verifying the absorption bands in the IV and thus identify some substances that do part of these materials. (c) X-rays diffraction (DRX), to identify present crystalline species formations in the gallstones sample. (d) Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS), for some metals content determination such as: Cd, Pb and Cu. (e) Nuclear Magnetic resonance (RMN), to ratify the cholesterol presence and to remove the hypothesis of have ergosterol in the sample and (f) TG/DTG and DSC applied to the gallstones and bile samples thermal behavior study. This work allowed to conclude that: some universe gallstones kinds of patient of the masculine sex that were studied could be inserted in the proposed classification previously, however, five of these samples did not case in none of these groups, suggesting, with that, the addition of new groups. It verified, also, that the gallstones percentage formatted for cholesterol is smaller for this class of patient. In two gallstones samples were found CaCO3 crystallized as aragonite, other indicated the calcium phosphate presence and in two of these samples were found a Pb high content. In the biles case, six samples indicated presence of NaCl (halita) and their one indicated, also, the cholesterol presence.

Stolpersteine: resources for development and social change? A case study in Vienna

The Stolpersteine memorial art project commemorates individual Holocaust victims by placing small brass plates outside the last known place they freely lived or worked. To date around 70,000 of these ‘stones’ have been laid across 24 countries, making it the largest decentralised monument in the world. The work grows by virtue of community action from relatives, neighbours and activists. This paper examines how the memorial form functions in a specific context. An ‘unofficial' version has been running in Vienna since 2005, termed Stones of Remembrance. It shares key characteristics with Stolpersteine but the approach in the Austrian capital is distinctly different, with local interpretations. This case study into the Vienna experience investigates public response to these stones drawing on research material that includes interviews with specific stakeholders and the general public who encounter them on a day to day basis. It highlights Austria’s role in the Holocaust, and struggle to belatedly come to terms with its complicity in what happened on local streets. Key questions are whether placing history at a neighbourhood level engages the public more actively than centralised state actions? How do people understand and engage with these pieces and are they effective sites of memory, reflection or imagining? Public response in Vienna suggests that memorial stones might be valuable communication tools not only for remembering the past, but for the present too - as reminders of past abuses that can serve as warnings for the future. As an example of a participatory approach to memory work Stones of Remembrance / Stolpersteine can have relevance as a communication for development and social change tool, with potential application in other post conflict contexts.

Medieval Glass and the Aesthetics of Simulation

Gemlike objects are a nearly ubiquitous phenomenon in the medium of glass, although culturally specific studies remain scarce. This dissertation considers the production of such works in the early medieval period, primarily in association with Abbasid rule. The first half attends to several accessory issues, including glass-related terminology, glass-coloring treatises, the lives of glassworkers, gemstone connoisseurship, and the legal status of such products. These demonstrate a range of coexisting attitudes, including the desirability of such works for their own sake rather than as surreptitious substitutes for “true” gemstones. The second half focuses on an exemplary object, an opaque turquoise glass bowl from the Treasury of San Marco in Venice, which I propose was produced in Baghdad for the caliph al-Mutawakkil just after the year 850. I then consider this work’s changing reception from late medieval Venice to modern scholarship, including ways in which “correct” interpretations of its material and/or origin have been repeatedly supplanted by false leads. The fundamental argument is that gemlike vessels like the San Marco turquoise were not deceptive stand-ins but rather intended to exercise complex discursive practices, both political and connoisseurial in nature, a function that ultimately remains in effect today.

<p>The main goal of the thesis was to prevent the generation of waste, by<br />using the spent coffee grounds (SCG) and date stones (DSAC) for<br />production of activated carbon adsorbent for water treatment. The<br />substances for water removal were selected from those presenting<br />potential risk to aquatic environment according to the NORMAN list of<br />emerging substances and belong to the group of pesticides:<br />carbendazim, linuron and isoproturon. Изaбрaнe супстанце за испитивaњ прoцeсa уклањањa из воде представљају потенцијални ризик за воднe eкo систeмe према NОRМАN листи eмeргeнтних супстaнци и припадају групи пестицида: карбендазим, линурон и изопротурон. SCG и DSАC адсорбенти су, као еколошки прихватљиви материјали нискe цeнe, показали висок потенцијал уклањања одабраних пестицида из aквaтичнoг систeмa.</p> / <p>Osnovni cilj teze bio je smanjenje stvaranja otpada korišćenjem otpada od kafe (SCG) i koštica urme (DSAC) za proizvodnju aktivnog uglja kao adsorbensa za prečišćavanje vode. Izabrane supstance za ispitivanj procesa uklanjanja iz vode predstavljaju potencijalni rizik za vodne eko sisteme prema NORMAN listi emergentnih supstanci i pripadaju grupi pesticida: karbendazim, linuron i izoproturon. SCG i DSAC adsorbenti su, kao ekološki prihvatljivi materijali niske cene, pokazali visok potencijal uklanjanja odabranih pesticida iz akvatičnog sistema.</p>

The aim of this diploma thesis is to introduce the reader to the art-historical project Stolpersteine. Its author is the German Gunter Demnig, who first came up with the idea to honor the memory of Holocaust victims in 1992. The purpose of the project is to commemorate the victims of World War II and the Nazi regime, not only Jews but also Roma, homosexuals and Jehovah's Witnesses. Stolpersteine are in the form of paving stones with a brass surface, which are usually inserted into the sidewalk before the last known voluntary residence of the victim. The Stolpersteine project soon attracted the attention of experts and the general public throughout Europe. In the Czech Republic, the first memorial stone was laid in 2008 in Prague, then in Mikulov, and more are added to various parts of the country every year. Laying new stones is not a trivial matter and the legislative process, which begins with an application and ends with the issuance of a decision, involves a number of steps. The purpose of Stolpersteine is to get today's young generation to reflect on events that its representatives have not experienced, but whose legacy continues to shape political and social events not only in Germany but also in other European countries, including the Czech Republic. A Gotlandic Picture Stone Tradition Reconsidered : An analysis and reclassification of the so-called kerbstones / En gotländsk bildstenstradition omprövat : En analys och omklassificering av de så kallade kantstenarna

In 1941/42, Sune Lindqvist published his seminal work on the Gotlandic picture stones (Gotlands Bildsteine I &amp; II) in which he included a category of stones that he interpreted as kerbstones. However, Lindqvist’s kerbstones have not received further examination or contextualization to determine the validity of his categorization. In my analysis, I take a hermeneutic approach that incorporates theories of agency, materiality, and phenomenology to contextualize the so-called kerbstones within not only the picture stone tradition but also the broader Gotlandic tradition of marking graves and memorials. Utilizing 3D visual reconstructions, I have confirmed that some of Lindqvist’s kerbstones could have been part of a circular edge chain and can be connected to the picture stone tradition. However, there are additional types of picture stones within Lindqvist’s kerbstone category which cannot be categorized as kerbstones and that likely represent additional types of picture stone monuments. / 1941/42 publicerade Sune Lindqvist sitt framstående arbete om de gotländska bildstenarna (Gotlands Bildsteine I &amp; II) där han inkluderade en kategori av stenar som han tolkade som kantstenar. Lindqvists kantstenar har dock inte fått någon närmare granskning eller kontextualisering för att fastställa giltigheten av hans kategorisering. I min analys tar jag ett hermeneutiskt grepp som införlivar teorier om agency, materialitet och fenomenologi för att kontextualisera de så kallade kantstenarna inom inte bara bildstenstraditionen utan även den bredare gotländska traditionen att markera gravar och minnesmärken. Med hjälp av visuella 3D-rekonstruktioner har jag bekräftat att några av Lindqvists kantstenar kunde ha ingått i en cirkulär kantkedja och kan kopplas till bildstenstraditionen. Det finns dock ytterligare typer av bildstenar inom Lindqvists kantstenskategori som inte kan kategoriseras som kantsten och som sannolikt representerar ytterligare typer av bildstensmonument.

Buttle Änge and Nygårds has been excavated by Uppsala University, Campus Gotland and also by Högskolan on Gotland since year 2009 and by Gothenburg University year 2009 and 2013. During the 20 excavations that has taken place there has been 112 glass beads found. They were found by the picture stones, in graves, in and around the stone foundation houses. The beads from the picture stones can be interpreted as grave deposits and the ones found in a cremation grave could have been part of a bead necklace combined with a pendant which belonged to a girl aged 0-14. The beads by the stone foundation houses had a larger concentration of beads in its three houses compared to Vallhagar which had the same number of beads found over 20 house foundations. In close connection to the stone foundation houses were glass mosaic fragments found that could have been used to make beads or could have been residuals from the beadmaking process from another place with productions of glass beads. / Buttle Änge och Nygårds har sedan 2009 undersökts genom utgrävningar från Uppsala universitet, Campus Gotland men även med en utgrävning år 2009 av Högskolan på Gotland och av Göteborgsuniversitet år 2009 och 2013. Under de 10 utgrävningar som skett på platsen har det påträffats 112 pärlor av glas. Dessa påträffades vid bildstenar, i gravar, i och runtomkring stengrundshus. Pärlorna vid bildstenarna kan tolkas som gravdepositioner och de i en brandgrav kan ha varit en del av ett pärlgarnityr tillsammans med ett hängsmycke som kan ha tillhört en flicka i åldern 0–14. Pärlorna vid stengrundshusen hade en större koncentration av pärlor i sina tre hus jämfört med Vallhagar som hade lika många påträffade från över 20 hus. I anslutning till stengrundshusen påträffades även fragment av glasmosaik som kan ha använts för att skapa pärlor eller varit tillverkningsspill från en annan hantverksplats för glaspärlor.
