As a sample for analysis, we selected a group of seven feature films (A ?ltima estrada da praia, Castanha, Dromed?rio no Asfalto, Sobre sete ondas verdes Espumantes, Morro do C?u, Menos que Nada and O Liberdade), produced in Rio Grande do Sul and commercially released between 2011 and 2015. The study considers the low-budget film industry to encompass feature films with a maximum cost of BRL 1 million. This sample was stipulated based on the budget ranges covered by public policies for film-industry development, specifically the public notice for Low-Budget Feature Films from the Ministry of Culture's Audiovisual Secretariat. The paper sought to unveil the specific production and circulation methods for low-budget films, especially those covered by the scope of analysis. In this process, we began with a theoretical contextualization based on the investments from studies on the cultural economy, the film-making economy and the Brazilian film industry, while also mapping public policies for the development of the industry and market data that allowed us to outline the panorama in which the low-budget film industry of Rio Grande do Sul is inserted. For the study of selected films, we employed on-site, semi-structured interviews with the producers, which provided us with access to production records for the films and significant information in understanding the practice of low-budget film-making within a regional context. In this analysis we noted that, among other characteristics, the low-budget film industry of Rio Grande do Sul is punctuated by the use of smaller and similar teams in accord with the production unit, the professional character of the producers, the majority of whom originate or are still academically linked to higher education audiovisual programs; by the flexibility in work relationships and by capturing resources in stages, with the greatest difficulties faced in the finalization phase.

It seeks to organize and analyze the action of the Public Power, through its Department of Agriculture, facing the main obstacles presented in the program development, particularly the issue of credit for financing the investments (construction and structuring of agribusiness s) and marketing or insertion of small farmers working with agribusiness s supported by the Program onto the formal market. It also allows better understanding of the various problems and difficulties faced by the program and the solutions found in the deployment of this public policy. Firstly the paper tackles the process of formulation and implementation of the program, with special attention to the issue of the beneficiary public (Chapter 1). Then it moves on to highlighting the issue of agricultural credit in the development of the program. After a brief history review and analysis of agricultural credit in Brazil, (Chapter 2) the problem of credit in the development of PROVE is thoroughly discussed. Finally, it addresses (Chapter 3) the topic of marketing, in which drawbacks as well as actions taken to minimize them are analyzed. No. of bitstreams: 1 2009 - Marcus Peixoto.pdf: 2344528 bytes, checksum: f4c175c64cbe997db72476e146bc2a4c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-05-04 / The purpose of this thesis is, considering the environment of the Brazilian public agricultural extension crisis and the world trend to pluralization of agricultural extension systems, to study how agricultural pesticides industries plan, organize and deliver agricultural advisory services, associated to the sales of these products in Brazil. The research results showed that, in fact, these services have a strategic importance to the competitiveness of pesticides industries, which hire a significant amount of sales technicians and a diversified set of firms, through different kinds of contractual arrangements, composed of agricultural retailers, cooperatives and professionals that deliver such services to their clients, the farmers. The Brazilian agricultural extension system became official in years 70 and is characterized for being free of taxes to farmers and decentralized at the states level, with federal support. Such system faced a crisis at the eighties that culminated with the extinction of Embrater, on 1990. During the nineties the crisis persisted, with little support from state governments to its solution. The pluralization processes of agricultural extension models have been studied by foreign literature, with support from FAO and World Bank, but have received little attention in Brazil. The researched literature suggests that there are not unique and ideal models, and that pluralization of agricultural extension systems is the best way to attend diverse publics. The input and equipment supply industries are examples of agents that direct or indirectly deliver such services, associated to the sales of their goods. In Brazil such agents assumed a detached role, for their participation on the constitution of agroindustrial systems throughout the agriculture modernization process. Notwithstanding, the private extension services delivered by such industries, as by raw material processor industries, have not been much studied.

Thus, this research aimed to lead students into the field to diagnose the locals rural family?s agribusiness, and use it as an instrument for the graduation of the Farming Technician CANP / IFRJ. The research was conducted at the Nile Pe?anha Campus - Pinheiral Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro - CANP / IFRJ with 25 students attending third-grade Farming Technician, class 311/2011 and also at a country-side of Pinheiral - RJ with 34 farmers. In this context, the development in the field work made the students have contact with the reality of farmers, the knowledge of agricultural and processed products in the city, also to evidence the absence of CANP/IFRJ with the rural community and the many possibilities the institution might have along the rural producers, through the promotion of rural extension activities and technical assistance with the effective participation of the students, which in their opinion will make theory work with the practice, it is extremely important for your professional graduation. The method adopted to develop the research with the students were the application of questionnaires, prepared based on scripts using open and close questions, within the beginning of 2011 school year, and also, conducting focus group dynamics to recognize the perceptions, feelings, attitudes and students ideas after working at a proposed field. According to participation of rural producers in the research, they were interviewed by the students followed the scripts containing open and close questions, and also they had their properties visited. The research results showed the necessity on stimulating development interdisciplinary activities, using the rural properties participatory trial. it was shown the that, through these activities the students could experience and how to apply, and practice theoretical knowledge, getting ready for the work field. In short, the realization of activities provide the approximation of CANP/IFRJ to locals rural producers, and together they can strategize and seek for alternatives for the development local productive arrangement.

Innovations originate from several agents that by sharing information, resources and technologies compound an innovation system. Functional Foods (industrialized food with additional health benefit beyond the basic function of supplying nutrients) is one of the latest highlighted innovations, created as an alternative to aggregate value to the products of the food industry. The present study aims to analyze the innovation system of functional foods in Rio Grande do Sul, through the identification of agents that compose it, the characterization of their relations, as well as the offer of products available and demand of functional foods by Rio Grande do Sul consumers. The exploratory research includes 13 interviews with individuals from different institutions and work fields. Secondary data were used to analyze the consumers and observations were performed on stores related to functional foods. The nine categories of agents identified showed low interaction due to the unawareness of the own agents about the participants of the system and the fear of sharing information suffered by companies. R&D of functional foods was found centered on companies, which contrasts the idea of open innovation and restrict the knowledge inside. The existence of subgroups on the system and the lack of interaction between the agents damages the resource sharing and generates an obstacle to the system. The policies and regulations demand updates and adjustments, being criticized by agents of the system under the claim of actual high bureaucracy and inflexibility. Although the market indicators are positive considering the consumers had manifested high consumption of functional foods and the offer of local products correspond to only 26% of total, indicating expansion potential - the relationship problems between the agents might hinder the development and the consolidation of the system.

It examines conceptual, historic, and normative aspects related to outsourcing in Brazil, since productive chains reflect a type of outsourcing classified as external (externalized) in production, in which all of production is projected outside of the company. Following this, it analyses the way in which contemporary slavery is exteriorized in productive chains in the fashion industry in a context of globalized capitalism. Finally, using concepts connected to the a-contractual theories of employment, as well as aspects connected to the integrative subordination and formation of economic groups of labour, it fundaments the solidary responsibility shared by all companies that integrate the productive chains in the fashion industry when considering the hypothesis of flagrant slave labour in Brazilian territory. The Posterior Bed Nucleus of the Stria Terminalis Mediates Opposite-Sex Odor Preference in Male Syrian Hamsters (Mesocricetus Auratus)

Been, Laura Elizabeth 11 November 2008 (has links)
In Syrian hamsters, social behavior is mediated exclusively by chemosensory cues and circulating gonadal steroid hormones. Where these two signals are processed in the brain is unknown, but the posterior bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (pBNST) has been suggested as a candidate site. Therefore, we tested male hamsters’ preference for opposite-sex odors following excitotoxic lesions of the pBNST. Lesions of the pBNST (pBNST-X) eliminated male hamsters’ preference for opposite-sex odors. Furthermore, pBNST-X males spent significantly less time investigating female odors than clean odors and significantly less time investigating female odors than control males did. Lesions of the pBNST did not change male hamsters’ investigation of male odors. The deficits observed in pBNST-X males were not due to a failure to discriminate between odors, as pBNST-X males were able to distinguish between odors. Together, these data suggest the pBNST is critical for opposite-sex odor preference in male hamsters.

A first important objective is to understand the direction given to the process of industrialisation and the consequent pattern of policy making. Secondly, the thesis asks why the Brazilian state, a key agent in the process of industrialisation, was notable to adopt certain measures and to go in certain directions which could have produced a more solid and sustainable process of economic development. Key attention is given to the concepts of state capacity and the developmental state. The concern with state capacity justifies a careful analysis of industrial policy, undertaken for the capital goods sector in the 1970s. In addition, the thesis is also centred on a comparative analysis. Through the experience of other countries, I intend to highlight the contribution of certain institutional factors to the path of economic development in Brazil. As a conclusion, the thesis shows how institutional factors, e.g. the result of peripheral international insertion and the organisation of social forces and of the state apparatus, constrained the capacity of the Brazilian state to replicate the results achieved by the developmental states in Japan and Korea. The study of the capital goods sector shows this in detail, emphasising the negative effects of divisions inside the state and the resistance of social groups on the coherence and the achievements of Brazilian industrial policy. An important conclusion is that the success of a substantial process of industrial transformation, which affects the interests of several economic groups, demands the construction of a strong coalition able to increase the government???s basis of support. This was an important deficiency of the military government, whose form of domination disregarded the relevance of such political mechanisms.

The intellectual output of Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer underscored the approaches on this subject, since it provides the same set of scenic/ideological features to be explored because, according to the authors, scenes produced by the culture industry are linked to the dominant ideology, since they act in favor of maintaining the status quo. The first objective was the definition this set of features inherent to the scene produced by the culture industry, through the exploration of literature produced by Adorno and Horkheimer, so it was possible to define a set composed of nine elements: Construction of characters as characteristic types; Stereotypes; Naturalization of Stereotyped language; Simplistic playwriting; Reuse dramatic formula; Love and sexuality as themes of plots; Utilization of tragic element; Objetive representation; Approximation of fiction and reality. The second goal was the analysis of scene produced by the culture industry nowadays, so that it was possible to verify if any scenic/ideological aspects indicated by Adorno and Horkheimer in the mid-twentieth century were present among the productions from this beginning of the twenty-first century. Through the analysis of three soap operas produced in Brazil in 2012, it was found that the nine scenic/ideological aspects as indicated by Adorno and Horkheimer appeared in the observed productions.
