Orientador: Paulo José dos Reis Pereira / Resumo: O Rio de Janeiro inseriu-se, fortemente, nos circuitos internacionais de interesses econômicos e políticos através da possibilidade de sediar megaeventos esportivos de portes globais. Dessa maneira, a “cidade maravilhosa dos encantos mil” precisou modificar-se, adequar-se a modelos e padrões internacionais que possibilitassem essa inserção. Dois grandes projetos se estabeleceram na dinâmica urbana carioca. O primeiro diz respeito à execução de grandes intervenções urbanísticas de transformações e remoções violentas sem precedentes, como no Porto Maravilha, ditadas por um modelo de cidade neoliberal aberta à iniciativa financeira internacional. O segundo é talvez o mais cruel e persistente, a militarização do cotidiano das periferias realizada pelas ocupações militares e, principalmente, pela implementação das Unidades de Polícia Pacificadoras, que foram orientadas por tecnicidades de controle e monitoramento de cunho coercitivo e violento. Esses dois projetos instruíram a imagem de uma cidade que, muito além de ser somente atrativa para investimentos, ela se tornaria, primordialmente, segura e ordenada. (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Rio de Janeiro was strongly inserted in the international circuits of economic and political interests through the possibility of hosting mega sporting events of global size. Thus, the “wonderful city of the thousand charms” had to be modified, adapted to international models and standards that would allow this insertion. Two major projects were established in Rio's urban dynamics. The first concerns the execution of major urban interventions of unprecedented violent transformations and removals, such as Porto Maravilha, dictated by a neoliberal city model open to international financial initiative. The second is perhaps the most cruel and persistent, the militarization of the daily life of the peripheries carried out by the military occupations and, mainly, by the implementation of the Pacifying Police Units, which were guided by coercive and violent control and monitoring techniques. These two projects shaped the image of a city that, far from being just attractive for investment, would become primarily safe and orderly. In this sense, the work aims to analyze in parallel the convergence of these two phenomena and their implications for urban dynamics in Rio de Janeiro, which tried to project internationally an image of a perfect, militarized, modified, neoliberal and pacified, showcase global city to be sold as a synonym for development. El primero se refiere a la ejecución de importantes intervenciones urbanas de transformaciones y mudanzas violentas sin precedentes, como Porto Maravilha, dictado por un modelo de ciudad neoliberal abierto a la iniciativa financiera internacional. Der Sport ist das dominierende Phänomen der heutigen Freizeitkultur und ein wachsender Wirtschaftszweig. Ob in den Medien, beim Handel mit Sportwaren oder beim Sport selbst: Wo über Sport gesprochen wird, treffen verschiedene Sprachen aufeinander. Um Sprachbarrieren zu überwinden, sind Dolmetscher oft unverzichtbar. Das Fachgebiet Sport bringt dabei Besonderheiten mit sich, z. B. die große Rolle des Fernsehens sowie eine eigene, vielschichtige Sprache, in der Jargon nicht selten mit Fachlexik kombiniert wird. War die Sportsprache bereits Gegenstand vieler Publikationen, befasst sich diese Arbeit mit den kaum erforschten Dolmetschtätigkeiten im Sport. Im Theorieteil werden u. a. der Bedarf an Dolmetschleistungen dargelegt und die Sportsprache aus Dolmetschersicht analysiert. Grundlage des Praxisteils ist eine Umfrage unter 51 Sport-Dolmetschern, die zu sprachlichen Herausforderungen ebenso befragt wurden wie zu den häufigsten Dolmetschsituationen oder den Verdienstmöglichkeiten.

Relying on framing theory, this study used The New York Times to explore how Chinese news was depicted before, during and after the Beijing Summer Olympics. The research regarding how the Chinese government tried to leverage the Olympics to enhance its image is often deliberated. However, there have only been a 3 few studies on the evaluation of the effects the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games had on the image of China, as depicted by The New York Times. This study generated an understanding of the impact the presentations of The New York Times had on the soft power used by China through the Beijing Summer Olympic Games. The study examined how the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics were associated with the depiction of Chinese news in The New York Times during the pre-, mid-, and post-Olympics years. Specifically, world and business sections within The New York Times were mainly influenced by the effects of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. In addition, there were no direct associations found between the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and how China was depicted photographically in The New York Times. In terms of the above factors; this study showed that China's national image did not improve in the New York Times after the 2008 Bejing Summer Olympic Games.

This study investigates the impact of mega-sporting event announcements on the host country's stock market. The analysis includes 34 events between 2000 and 2024, including the Olympic Games (Summer and Winter), the FIFA World Cup, and the UEFA European Championship. Employing a deductive approach grounded in existing theory and research, the study formulates hypotheses and utilizes an event study methodology to examine whether the announcements trigger abnormal returns in the host nation's stock market. T-tests are used to assess the statistical significance of the findings. The results provide limited evidence of market reactions to the announcements, with any potential effects occurring primarily before the official announcement, suggesting the possibility of information leakage or insider trading. No significant effects were found on the announcement day itself or on subsequent days. Furthermore, no statistically significant differences were found based on the economic size of the host nation or the type of event. However, the study did observe that FIFA World Cup announcements tend to generate slightly more volatile market reactions compared to the other events.
