Construction of musculoskeletal systems for anatomical simulation / Construction de systèmes musculosquelettiques pour la simulation anatomique

Dicko, Ali Hamadi 24 November 2014 (has links)
The use of virtual humans has spread in various activities in recent years.Beyond virtual surgery, virtual bodies are increasingly used to design medical devices, vehicles, and daily life hardware more generally. They also turn out to be extraordinary supports to learn anatomy.Recent movies (Avatar, Lord of the Rings, etc) demonstrated that anatomy and biomechanics can be used to design high-quality characters. However, reproducing the behavior of anatomical structures remains a complex task, and a great amount and variety of knowledge is necessary for setting up high quality simulations. This makes the modeling of human body for simulation purposes an open problem, a tedious task, but also a fascinating research subject.Through this PhD, we address the problem of the construction of biomechanical models of the musculoskeletal systems for several domains : animation, biomechanics and teaching. Our goal is to simplify the entire process of model design by making it more intuitive and faster. Our approach is to address each difficulty : the representation and use of anatomical knowledge, the geometrical modeling and the efficient simulation of the musculoskeletal system thanks to three novel contributions introduced during these research works. Our first contribution focuses on the biomechanical construction of a hybrid model of lumbar spine. In this work, we show that hybrid approaches that combine both rigid body systems and finite element models allow interactive simulations, accurate, while respecting the principles of anatomy and mechanics. Our second contribution addresses the problem of the complexity of anatomical, physiological and functional knowledge.Based on a novel ontology of anatomical functions of the human body, we introduce a novel pipeline to automatically build models that simulate physiological functions of our bodies. The ontology allows us to extract detailed knowledge using simple queries. The outputs of these queries are used to set up simulation models of the functional aspects as they were formalized and described by anatomists. Finally our third contribution, the anatomy transfer, allows the mapping of available geometrical and mechanical models to the morphology of any specific individual. This novel registration method enables the automatic construction of the internal anatomy of any character defined by his skin, by transferring organs from a reference character. It allows to overcome the need to re-construct these geometries for each new simulation, and it contributes to accelerate the simulations setup for a range of people with different morph

A gramática da quietude: um estudo sobre hábito e confiança na formação da identidade / The gramar of quietude: a study of a habit and trust in the constitution of identity

Pedro Salem 15 March 2006 (has links)
This work aims to investigate the functions of habit and trust in the constitution of identity. Even tough it is inspired by studies that stress the importance of trust to the constitution of society and its condition in the contemporary socio-cultural context, the discussion focuses basically on the domain of the child development. Noticing the importance of trust for the psychoanalytical school of object relations, the analysis of this concept is mainly examined in the work of D. W. Winnicott. Based on the fact that trust plays a central role in the metapsychological assumptions of this author, which contrasts with a limited theoretical exploration of its multiple meanings, the study proposes to discriminate two moments in its construction: the genesis and the reproduction of trust. The study of habit constitutes a preliminary step for the examination of trust. The analysis of the concept of habit is accomplished through the work of sociologists and philosophers, and intends to reveal the corporeal features and the importance of the regular and reliable interactions with the environment for the genesis of trust. The common presuppositions and the converging elements of different theories of habit are pointed, showing how they tend to emphasize its embodied bases and avoid its description as repetition and automatism. By the provision of security through the anticipation of the consequences of action, habit contributes to the process of flexible adaptation and plays a central role in the construction of trust. Next, the study focuses on the mechanisms of the reproduction of trust. Under the new functional configurations of the environment that follow the development of the child . the reduction of security, the increase of autonomy and freedom of risk taking, the reproduction of trust reflects the incidence of the aggressive-creative actions in the transitional space. In addition to the analysis of the work of psychoanalysts that share with Winnicott some central elements of his theory, the investigation of trust is improved by the contributions provided by recent findings in the domain of developmental psychology. This work also examines three features of infant development described by Winnicott as related to trust: the capacity to be alone, to non-integration and the propensity for gift giving.

Exergy performance of the human body and its respiratory system as a function of environmental parameters and intensity of physical activity.

Izabela Batista Henriques 23 August 2013 (has links)
Exergy analysis is applied to human body in order to determine the exergy behavior pattern of the body and its respiratory system for a healthy subject under different environmental conditions and physical activity intensities. In order to do so, destroyed exergy rate and exergy efficiencies are calculated for different altitudes, acclimatization periods, temperatures, relative humidities and exercise intensities. An integrated model of the body and its respiratory system and an exergy model of the body are utilized. To perform the exergy analysis of respiratory system, an exergy model based on that available in literature is proposed. Exergy analysis is applied to two control volumes: the human body as a whole and the respiratory system, which comprises the lungs and the airways. In the first control volume, the exergy rate transferred to the environment due to convection and radiation is considered, as well as the exergy flow rate associated with respiration and transpiration and the internal exergy generation caused by the exergy metabolism. In the second one, the exergy rates and flow rates are associated with the venous blood and the inspired air in the inlet and the arterial blood and expired air in the outlet. An internal exergy variation due to the exergy metabolism of the lung, an exergy transfer associated with the metabolism of the lung and the work performed by the respiratory muscles were also taken into account. The results indicate that the exergy efficiency of the lung decreases as the altitude and exercise intensity increase, while the exergy efficiency of the body increases for both parameters. Regarding acclimatization period, the greatest exergy efficiencies are obtained after twenty days. Concerning temperature and humidity variations, the higher the activity level, the lower the thermal comfort temperature. It is also possible to observe distinct behaviors between body and lung. The body is more influenced by the physical activity intensity, while the respiratory system is more affected by environmental parameters.

Cartografias do corpo : metáforas contemporâneas da sutura e da cicatriz / Cartography of the body : contemporary metaphors of suture and scar

The objective of this thesis is to understand the meaning of the movements on/of the body produced in significant different materiality and that keep the relationship between three different discourse and body practices, the dance, medication and tattoo. In order to do so we gave priority to the rave parties, where these are common practices, as a significant place that houses the identification and individualization processes of the contemporary subject according to the Pêcheux and Orlandi proposal. We are interested in observing the forms of subjection currently performed under specific historical and material conditions, aiming to understand how the body is contextualized in the social networks of the Internet. We started with the premise that this ideologically marked body is also a body of desire, a body that lacks a possible body. And it is for what lacks that the subject constituted him/herself in object of desire, and it is trying to disguise it that he/she builds meanings, written in practices that can metaphor the lack of being. In the analyzed discourse the movement of the meanings composes a cartography that is marked by sutures and scars. Formulated like this, these metaphors of the body make it possible to think the ideological practices as deeply paradoxical. It is in the puncture, in the meanings of escape, that this work makes it possible to see other identification places, allowing the notion of resistance to be differently diagnosed / Doutorado / Linguistica / Doutora em Linguística

Comportement de l’abdomen soumis au choc : apport de l’échographie ultra-rapide pour la validation interne des modèles / Internal response of the abdomen during an impact : validation of the internal response of human body models based on ultrafast ultrasound imaging

Le Ruyet, Anicet 18 November 2016 (has links)
During an automotive accident, the abdomen can be subjected to rapid loading leading to abdominal organ injuries. Although human body models become increasingly prevalent to predict injuries during an impact, the validation of their internal response is difficult, in particular due to the lack of data available. Such impact last less than ten milliseconds making the use of standard imaging (e.g. MRI) tools difficult. Based on a recent imaging modality (ultrafast ultrasound imaging), this work focuses on the study of the internal response of the abdomen during an impact. The in situ internal response of abdominal organs (liver, colon) was observed during impacts delivered to post mortem human surrogates. For the first time, trends were found between the external response and the internal organ kinematics. These tests were simulated using an existing human body model leading to similar trends for some of the responses. Also, a method was developed allowing estimating 2D strains in organs during an impact based on ultrafast ultrasound images. This method was first evaluated numerically and experimentally. Then, it was used to process images of human and porcine kidneys during an impact from a previous study. Results highlight the influence of parameters such as the impact speed on the 2D strains estimated in different organ regions.Overall, this research allowed improving upon the current knowledge on the internal response of the abdomen subjected to impact. It also showed the performance limitation of current human body models. The method developed to compute strain maps should help to further improve that knowledge in the future

Antz, Jean-Édouard 08 December 2015 (has links)
To increase permanently the knowledge of the Science, the human sample becomes the basis of the Research. Indeed, it symbolizes the scales of the diversity embodied by the medicine and the law. Moreover, the evolution of the medical history allows the body through its materiality to become an immateriality with this spirit and the numeric. The object, which is the body, is complex and attached to lots of different fields that determine its aims. The painting of the human sample is drawn. To go further this thesis will try to lay the foundations of the rules of the human sample. This Research will try to fix the structure of the sample to find the rules and the procedure of the human sample thanks to the law. Without skeleton, no human sample. This is merely bare bone. The interest of the human sample as its nature itself is essential to characterize its interest and the process of its utility. Thanks to this dual image ¬ legal and medical ¬ of the human sample we can find a balance for its using. On one hand to be well-balance the human sample must adapt itself to the new laws taking into account the difference between the status of the human and the status of the human sample. On the other hand, the human sample is just a small thing compared with the financial or scientist stakes due to the globalization. What is the real place of the human sample then ?
